Growing up in Foible's Fair, young Julian Kestrel was an admirer of the talents (and other attributes) of Ralena Stormbringer - until her prejudices regarding Earth Magic forced them to part. Despondent, young Julian Kestrel wandered into the mountains, where the bitter cold brought him a knowledge of Water Magic as well. The shelter of the mountains allowed young Julian to survive the Searing, and rather than return to his shattered homeland, he set sail for Elona and enlisted among the Sunspears.
