Platinum

The base currency in Guild Wars is gold. 1000 gold equals 1 platinum. The maximum amount a player can hold in their inventory is 100,000 gold or 100 platinum (also known as plat, or K). Due to this restriction, players will use items such as globs of ectoplasm or rubies in trades worth more than 100 Platinum. A vault box will hold 1,000 platinum, or 1,000,000 (one million) gold.

[edit] Acquisition

Currency is acquired through many ways. The most common way is picking up money or looted items from slain creatures. Doing this repetitively is called farming. It can also be acquired through the completion of quests. Currency can also be acquired from other players. For example you can perform services for others, whether it be running, grouping, or just trading with them. Additionally you can manipulate the market by finding or buying an item and then selling it to other players for a profit.

[edit] Economy

Whilst currency can enter the game, it can also leave through the various gold sink mechanisms that there are. This maintains a balance within the game economy.

[edit] Use

Currency is used to buy many items in game. These items include:

And many others!

[edit] Notes

  • Gold sinks are anything that uses money for an item, along with other things. These might be armor or weapons, or even artisans such as Etham the Artisan.
  • In order to store money in an account a player must talk to a Xunlai Agent and pay a one time charge of 50 gold to access their vault box. Then to obtain crafting material storage, you need to pay another 50 gold.
