Party

A party is a group of players who get together to form a temporary "team" in Guild Wars. Parties are formed in towns or outposts and cannot be formed while in a Quest, Mission or Explorable area. Party members are listed in the Party Window in order of invitation to the party. The player whose name appears at the top of the window is the leader. In addition to players, a party may contain a Henchman, a Hero or a pet. Henchmen are not available until after the player has made progress to a certain level of the game. For example, in Prophecies, henchmen are not available in pre-searing Ascalon

A party may consist of a single player. In early portions of the game the player must complete certain quests alone. As he/she progresses, the party size will vary from two to twelve members depending on where the party is formed. The leader can invite a player to join a party. He/she can exclude a member by selecting the member's name and pressing the kick button. A party member can leave a party by using the leave button.

Once the party is formed, the leader can enter an explorable area or map-travel to a town or outpost to begin the adventure. The entire party will appear at the destination. At this point the leave and kick buttons are no longer available on the party window because leaving a party in the middle of an adventure would be unexpected. However, a member who is not the leader can abandon the group at this point by map-travel. A warning message will inform you that continuing will cause you to abandon your party.

If the leader abandons the group by logging off the game, the member immediately below the leader will become the new leader.

You can volunteer your services to another player by using the chat window and requesting an invitation to join him or her. When you receive an invitation, the party window will display the accept button so you can accept it. There will also be a button to decline it.

Forming a small party can be relatively simple. However gathering a large group may require that two smaller groups merge together. In this case there are certain rules that control how the parties merge. For more information on merging parties see Party Search at the Official Guild Wars Web Site
