forced to abandon Guild Wars for the immediate future; although it has been some
time since my last login, I will be back soon, and will be rebuilding the guild
upon my return. Until then, I can only apologise for my absence and the
inconvenience caused.The Black Serpents [Ssss]

Guild Hall: Isle Of The Dead
|
---|
Although he had been thinking about creating a guild for some time, Wrath Of The Fallen Order guildie Jack Blackserpent only took the plunge when, upon leaving a larger alliance led by the Dust Bunnies Of Death (because the time-zone difference made interaction difficult, as it was made up of mostly US guilds), the guild chose to create their own European alliance. Realising that their claims to being “a new alliance” would seem a little flimsy if there was only one guild, Jack decided to form his own splinter-guild to bolster the numbers on paper. Saving up the money himself, Jack bought the cape and guild hall (which he furnished with a full compliment of services) in under a month.
After founding their new alliance with a third guild, Shadowz Of The Moon (led by another ex-WFO guildie, Flashz Narathar), WFO and The Black Serpents rejoined a splinter-group from the old Transatlantic alliance, led by the Calling Of [Time] guild; unfortunately, this new incarnation suffered from similar time-zone problems and the decision was made to transfer again to a European alliance led by the L I F E Is Worth Living guild. Since then, The Black Serpents have been one of the quieter and more "bijou" guilds, but have contributed well to the faction total (thanks largely to Wolf Grenade, and his tireless PvP double-points crusades). However, we are always on the lookout for more willing guildies to join our well-appointed little band of brothers (and sisters), either to help less-experienced players within the alliance or to learn the ropes themselves - see below for more details.
True to WFO’s original values, the guild is basically PvX (in that PvP is not discouraged), but mainly focuses upon helping guild-mates and other alliance members through the PvE storylines in co-operative play. WFO was always intended to be somewhere that the more laid-back players could just enjoy playing Guild Wars without elitist attitudes or intensive competition, so that new players could be helped by the older, more experienced gamers rather than being looked down upon, and it is this tradition which The Black Serpents hope to honour and continue.
Recruitment
The Black Serpents are currently recruiting…!
We are a fun-loving, laid-back Kurzick guild (as are the rest of the alliance) and simply want to enjoy our time on Guild Wars without any over-competitive baggage; if you’re looking to climb the tournament ladders or see your guild’s name up in lights then this is probably not the guild you’re looking for… However, if you’re an experienced player who enjoys helping people who are new to the game, or you’re someone less experienced who is looking for a pressure-free environment in which to learn and enjoy yourself, The Black Serpents are more likely to be your bag.
The one other consideration is a sense of humour… all of the guilds in the alliance (ourselves included) have worn certain keys out typing “lol” and “rofl” in the chat window, so you need to be prepared to give and take some gentle ribbing from time to time. On the flip-side, any behaviour which is considered annoying or antisocial – swearing or offensive remarks, excessive trade-spam in guild or alliance chat, or spamming chat in general – will not be tolerated; many of the alliance’s guilds have younger members, and while it’s true that many of us might swear and cuss in real-life, we prefer to avoid doing it in front of more innocent eyes! Also, nobody likes a spammer, and it interferes with other peoples' chat.
For more information, and to see whether this is the right guild for you, please read The Black Serpents' Guild Charter.
Guild Hall
The Black Serpents' guild hall, situated on the Isle Of The Dead, is filled with all the amenities which the modern guild member could need; the Central Chamber has access to the most commonly-used merchants and traders in the warming glow of massed ranks of prayer candles (as well as the Xunlai Agent for storage and finance), while the Crafter's Gallery above houses traders in more esoteric wares, such as dyes and costumes.
The hall itself is built within the abandoned catacombs beneath the Grade-1 listed remains of an historical abbey, which stands perched on the cliff-face and is similar to those recently unearthed at Ashford, which was built in the Gothic heyday of the Old Ascalonian school. Its collection of sweeping cathedral-like arches and beautiful wrought-ironwork is hauntingly beautiful, but the crowning glory of this spectacular complex are the depictions of two of the Five Gods; a breathtaking stained-glass window of Grenth in the Central Chamber overlooking the pool, and a mural of Dwayna in flight which stands framed by a collapsed wall on Revellers' Ridge.
The location was chosen not only for its stunning scenery, but also for its defensive properties; apart from the treacherous climb up the cliff-face from the bay and the tar pit in the Great Vault area, the main entrance to the Central Chamber area is watched over by an archers' elevation, and both entrances lead to twisting corridors, causing the enemy to bottle-neck around a corner rather than sweeping straight into the hall. With careful tactics and competent defenders, our hall is more than adequately fortified against attacks from rival guilds.
Finally, when the time comes to relax and celebrate after a hard day's questing, Revellers' Ridge provides a natural patio in the sun. Parties for guild members' birthdays and other festive occasions are held here, overlooking the guild's private barge in the bay. (Bookings for parties and other functions are available on request.)
