"Purile"?[edit]

Wow, this guy's a jerk.... Anyway, I found him in the Lahtenda Bog, so I can't check: in Fahranur, does he really say "far too purile"? Because "purile" isn't a word ("puerile," however, is).--70.173.35.28 00:05, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Hidden Easter Egg?[edit]

why does he actually exist? who is this? Gwens Uncle? I wonder that he appears randomly with a bunch of dialogues, i suppose there is some little secret no one figgured out yet... —ZerphatalkThe Improver 21:05, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

I nearly spit my coffee. Gwen's Uncle, the Elonian, good show. Anyway, we have it on official record that Bahltek MAY be awaiting revelation in GW2. It was implied that all these little loose ends like Jackass here and that one Asuran quest line may be solved. 68.193.113.198 20:35, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Would be helpful if you might reference any mentions you've been privy to or any blurbs at say an expo or something people may have missed?--98.232.36.96 17:50, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Scrying Pool?[edit]

"Water is powerful; more powerful, I'm sure, than you realize. It can be used as a mirror to see into places that are magically obscured."- Sounds like the scrying pool to me...But how does he know about it? Lyra ValoUser Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 16:16, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Maybe he is the predecessor of Abaddon mention in the Realm of Torment quest. Dero Ahmonati 17:24, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Lol.
Good thinking about that scrying pool. I guess more of his background will be revealed in GW2? WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 19:59, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

I think there's going to be more than one scrying pool. Note that the PCs say "Looks like a scrying device." - after all, we even have portable scrying objects, what's to say his isn't a home-made scrying bowl? -- Konig/talk 22:07, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Ideas[edit]

I wonder if he simply speaking about the different campaigns and expansions. He speaks about Nightmare Scroll in the first city, so that would be Nightfall.

He also speaks about water as a portal to viewing things, such as the scying pool hence, EOTN.

Third he speaks about the gods being seen in the heavens to a certain degree, closer to the stars maybe? So that would be Factions.

Finally the Spirit Ship, which I would associate with Orr and with Orr comes the Lich Lord, so that would be prophecies. Thought it lined up a bit, what do you guys think. 216.232.127.117

Could make sense, I suppose. We'll know for sure when GW2 is released, I think. :) WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 00:17, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Maybe he has some sort of connection to the dragons as well... Dero Ahmonati 18:29, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

In the first preview trailer of GW2, we see Bahltek speaking to Primordus "Primordus... I am your father..." :P Paddymew 21:24, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Yet another simple person that doesn't know the correct line used in the movie... Anyways, after a few years, i'd like to say that they didn't plan on making EotN or GW2 back when NF was released. 86.106.87.209 09:22, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

I toyed with the references to the campaigns also, but I tend to be a little more broad minded in my imaginings of this guy. Another way of assessing his pattern is as Earth (diggings/Jokonur), Air (referencing the heavens), Water (ocean/scrying bowl) and, well fire or spirit in the case of the ship, which may or may not tie into the presence of Admiral Saidron in FoW. On another, perhaps unlreated track: If one wants to expand things a bit and note the places appears, it makes a sort of diagonal cross across the length of Istan, like a large slanted "X" across Istan. The longer extension being the Mehatni region; where if you stand in the half sunken ruins of the previous dynastic palace area (the far eastern end of mehatni keys--where I believe the ancient royalty dwelled long ago), one notes a column of pillars making for what may have once been a straight procession roughly to the west by north west direction...(In the watery area of the skale). If one faces along this procession (by orienting your character to look from the old palace ruins along it's length, then going to the world map and making a straight line in that direction) and extends it in a straight line on the world map, it seems to point right to Farahnur(the other end of his criss-cross appearances). From one end of Istan to the other. I don't know if the ruins there are supposed to predate Farhanur or to have been contemporaneous with it(eg. the same dynasty). Arenanet placed real map features in the terrain before with the dragons in EotN and other places--alluding to the lore of the world, so I don't believe it's beyond them to have concocted a really rough map quirk like this in the Istan region, but who knows? Anyhow, the center of the X would probably be somewhere in the Cliffs of Dohjok area, though I haven't done the ground work to come up with any exact area. The place Kormir originally points out the sigil on the rock is roughly almost in the cross section, perhaps a ways north-west of my imaginary X. Worthy of note in this X region is the lengthy zoning length from Cliffs of Dohjok, to Zehlon Reach, as if an outpost may have been planned there at one time , or may--in the future be placed. things that make you go Hmmm!--98.232.36.96 18:33, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Maps[edit]

Could someone create maps for where Bahltek appears in each area (or add bahltek to the maps of the areas he appears in)? ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 20:43, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

I Know Who/What Bahltek Is!![edit]

ok, so: bahltek says something about a magical object belonging to a mage who could traverse through multiple planes of existence. sound familiar? yes it sounds familiar wtf kinda question is that? Bahltek is obviously a planeswalker, as in the god-like people from magic: the gathering lore. and guild wars is just one plane in the M:tG multiverse. obviously. 76.98.154.168 16:33, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

I been thinking are all of these clues pointing to the civilization of Orr maybe? Ghost Ships, Water, Forbidden Scrolls, the gods. What do you think? Perhaps Bahltek is from Orr. Dero Ahmonati 18:26, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
I thought "Planeswalker" when I read what he said about Odran jumping around, too. We know that ANet based the skill system somewhat on Magic: the Gathering, so perhaps this is a hidden, if not unconscious, reference? Paddymew 21:26, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
haha good refrence haha psh but why didnt they just call him Urza or something then... myabe GW2 has a planes aspect? 65.101.78.91 05:41, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
I may be wrong but I believe there is an article somewhere on this page describing a magus who was in the Mists or something and opened up Rifts all over the universe. It seems pretty certain now that in the Guild Wars universe there are multiple dimentions, and in GW2 I think the different "realms" that will be fighting in World PVP are going to be those different dimenions. 68.193.113.198 20:38, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

It would be awesome if Bahltek was from Orr. Lets see if I came back from a big war I would want to go on a vacation to relax. Maybe his family was killed in the Second Great Corsair War (I am really trying to make an excuse for why he wasn't with his family). Maybe his ship crashed and he lost his memory he washed up in Elona, found some of those artifacts from an ancient civilization Prince Mehtu The Wise was talking about and started researching them because he forgot everything else. - Giant Nuker 02:26, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

All these references are purely unconscious or simply fantasy archetypes. end of discussion. 91.16.144.96 17:58, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Bahltek had this dialogue before passage scrolls existed. I'm removing that information. It is, indeed, bad.

Also, passage scrolls are hardly "powerful artifacts." ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 02:16, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Possible Connection to GW:Utopia?[edit]

So I've been reading up on this wiki about the history/not implemented features. I stumbled upon the Utopia page (and thought it would have been eppiccc, but back on topic) article. The article infers (from concept art, for one) that the Utopia Campaign would involve advanced civilizations, technology, and the addition of the "chronomancer" proffesion (involving time/possibly time travel. time related things). As the brackets explained, the chronomancer could possibly time travel(but nothings official. just my speculation). So, connecting this back with Bahltek.

His last Fahrunar quote is "They belonged to a most effulgent mage from an exceptionnaly advanced civilization. He was able to traverse through multiple planes of existence, some of which predate the one you currently call your native soil." Sound like time travel to you? 'Cause it does for me. Time travel... Chronomancer... GW:Utopia?

Theres also the link at the bottom for who people think the "effulgent mage" was, Lord Odran. I followed that link, and it says (in short) he was a "temporal distorter" (time distorter/time traveller). So if Lord Ordan was a time traveller... and the fact the GW:Utopia campaign looks like it was suppost to be time/technology based (one of the concept arts on the GW: Utopia page was of a city made of gears called the "hub of time"), could this possibly be how Bahltek was intended to be included in the game (before Utopia was cancelled :/)?

Ofcourse, none of this is official information. Its purely me putting pieces of speculated information togethor (not much was released about GW:Utopia, alot of the info comes from the concept art) but it makes a huge amount of sense to me. OH... and srry bout the long post ;D Death By An Arrow 23:40, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm fairly sure he was added after Utopia was canned, meaning that since he isn't relevant to EotN, he is foreshadowing for Guild Wars 2. --Santax (talk · contribs) 01:32, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
I've got a feeling that Utopia wasn't ever really trashed. The official Utopia project was canceled in favor of the EOTN/GW2 combo package. If I recall the reason for the EOTN/GW2 combo instead of Utopia was due to Anet's desire to be able to do a lot more than what was possible on the GW1 engine, which means Utopias content can possibly still be up in the air and waiting to come down on us at the right time. If they ever decide to include Chronomancers in either of these games I'm going to be hospitalized due to stroke induced from too much excitement, or something. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.193.113.198 (talk).
I believe that was the rationale for ANet not telling us anything about Utopia, they intended to use a lot of the ideas and assets for GW:EN and GW2. --94.171.77.82 22:54, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm just going to start saving up for my medical bill --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.193.113.198 (talk).
Seen under this angle, the comment from Linsey Murdock FAQ tends to confirm this "Time-related powers that will come to light in what's coming next" theory, and its obvious link to the work done on Utopia that remained unused. Ghost Ships[edit]

Can this be the Ghost ships from Orr which block the way to the south regions such as cantha and elona. Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 11:03, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

They are from other planes of existence (parallel dimensions). So in another "world" nearly identical to ours, different circumstances from that "world" have caused a ship to sail in that section of water, and for some reason the ships are being echoed across time/space and appear as "ghost ships" in our own world. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.193.113.198 (talk).

I suspect a highly powerful corsair magus is casting Arcane Echo. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.193.113.198 (talk).

Purpose?[edit]

perhaps this was a reference to the Skrying Pool in GW:EN... only because he was talking about mirrors. He's quite impolite though :/ Spotina Talk 19:30, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

No one knows his purpose, but he references more than the Scrying Pool. He references the Apocrypha/the scroll General Kayet has after the Diggings mission (in the cinematic); he also references Lord Odran as well. -- Konig/talk 22:08, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

.......yeah[edit]

I don't really care what purpose he has or whatever. I can live with the mystery. What I want to know is how I can kill the jerk off. Slowly.--Will Greyhawk 05:29, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Linsey's talk[edit]

A Few years ago there was this small discussion about the guy on Linsey's page. After some search I found it here. She could be refering to the Elona part of Guild Wars Beyond. --MageUser MageMontu sig.pngMontu 07:31, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

While he may be used in Guild Wars Beyond, we don't have any indication that they were planning to do Guild Wars Beyond or anything like it when Nightfall was released, nor do we have any reason to believe that John is going to use/is aware of any plans Linsey made regarding him. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 15:01, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Asura Connection?[edit]

This guy speaks like an asura. I mean, other than the references to the gods and calling himself a "big person," I get the distinct impression that Bahltek should be small, floppy-eared, and named Baltekk. Perhaps he was the inspiration for the asura? Or maybe there was a civilization in Utopia that was overly pompous and superior that was scrapped and channeled into the asura like the Sidhe were channeled into the sylvari. (Personally, I prefer to think that he was abandoned in the Depths of Tyria and was discovered by and raised as an asura. Since he's actually human, he was considered the dumbest asura ever to live, so he left his underground home for the Overworld. As he conducted research throughout Istan, he realized he was smarter than everyone else above-ground.) Also, I over-use links. 99.91.15.160 14:14, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

GW2 Book about him[edit]

Apparently one of the books found on GW2 is called The Curious Case of Bahltek by Norgu, I'm curious about why is Norgu writting about him. Lokheit 02:41, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
