It's worth mentioning that you have to be able to defeat Rotscale to complete this quest. 72.133.252.230 02:33, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

And then, maybe you don't. >.< 72.133.252.230 02:34, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
I didn't beat him to enter. I wiped out his surrounding groups, he was left there, and I just ran by and enter the new area. ~~000.00.00.00~~ 02:38, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
I couldn't get him to move out of the way, but the h/h managed to kill him eventually. 72.133.252.230 02:42, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
He does have over 20,000 hp, so it will take time to kill him, if you want his green. --Neil2250 User Neil2250 sig icon6.png 03:12, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Eh, i didnt kill him. He almost killed me. I came with H/H 3 healers and 1 protter, so basically i didn't stand a chance, but i got lucky. Rotscale normally bodyblocks the stairs, but when he ran off his platform to chase me and went back, he was sitting to the right, giving me a clear run at the thing DemonicFahrirDesecrate Enchantments.jpg 18:19, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

The true meaning of "Majesty's Rest".[edit]

Finally we learn it, 5 years later. Very creative of the Live Team, I think. :P Arshay Duskbrow 02:52, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

prolly coincidence, like The Forest of True Sight --Neil2250 User Neil2250 sig icon6.png 03:03, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Why does that redirect to Talmark Wilderness, when there's nothing that hints to the Forest of True Sight being that (tbh, I think that was the original name of an area in the Maguuma Jungle). -- Konig/talk 04:18, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and we were able to figure out that the royal family was buried there a while back - at least since Nightfall and the Staff of the Mists (the quest which it is involved with says that the Staff of the Mists and the Scepter of Orr were buried with their original owners, who were kings of nations). -- Konig/talk 04:19, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Abaddon Mural?[edit]

http://yfrog.com/gigw006ej Thought I might share. Found in the Mausoleum. 72.133.252.230 03:00, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

It's actually the indomitable Daniel Dociu's concept art of a Word of Madness: [1]. It's always nice to see concept art appear in game.  :) Ailina 04:18, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Inscribable items in the Mausoleum[edit]

Got an inscr rare out of a locked chest down there. As far as I'm aware, this doesn't happen anywhere else in Tyria. 72.133.252.230 03:03, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

That's because this is in EotN :) xj3572 03:25, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
I got a Lockpick in NM, seems to suggest it's treated as GWEN to me also.Adeira Tasharo 01:54, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
It is; it shares a partial layout with the area you run through to get to eotn initially [which you also can't access unless you own eotn]. BellonaBacchus 21:00, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Bugged[edit]

I accidentally skipped one of the clickable sarcophagus, and then when I went back to open it, it is still clickable, but nothing happens. So I ended up stuck down there with no way to open one of the doors and had to resign back to ToA.

As far as I know, this should only happen once you get the correct sarcophagus, which is randomly choosing. -- Konig/talk 04:16, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

I aggree this is not a bug. Once you get the right sarcophagus, and there is no door.

I also got down to one Sarcophagus and could not actually click on it. Ended up mapping back.Adeira Tasharo 01:54, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Also got down to one sarcophagus, and nothing happened when I clicked it. Then I checked my quest log, and I'd already found the correct one. Try that. ;] BellonaBacchus 21:00, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Here's a bug for you -- went all the way there, killed everything, then opened the sarcophagi. After they were all opened, nothing. Absolutely nothing. Awesome. 96.44.114.222 02:04, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Did you check to see whether the quest was shown as complete? This is the first time I've been in the mausoleum, so without having heard the quest update sound (not sure if it didn't sound or was lost in the din of combat), I wasn't aware I'd already tagged the right corpse-o-minium until I checked my quest log to see if there was something else I had to do. Turns out it was complete. Kruhljak (talk) 10:24, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

October 30 2013 - I did exactly the same thing as 96.44... Killed all the monsters, opened all the sarcophagi (except the first one by the entrance which will not open) and the quest still shows incomplete. Not reading about it first, I searched FOREVER around that damned maze only to read that it's nothing (oh, and full of bugs too - incomplete walls, invisible walls, even a portal you can't enter.) Now, all that being said, I had to teleport back to town and chose Lions Arch. Turns out the quest WAS complete, it just didn't mark it as such. Lame.

WTF!!!![edit]

Four...count them...four mother effing times in a row after killing Rotscale, I click to enter the mausoleum, get a loading screen for it, then get teleported back to ToA!!! Can't they debug anything before releasing it? I don't even want to try again for fear I'll be wasting even more time. This is some bullshit! 69.253.39.117 17:48, 26 October 2010 (UTC) Kristy

If you don't have EotN, then you won't be able to enter, it would seem. But for everyone else, it seems to work. Apparently the dungeon is treated as an EotN area. -- Konig/talk 18:13, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

That's just god damn stupid of them...if EoTN is a requirement for doing it, why should someone w/o it even be able to get the damn quest? How is anyone supposed to know you need EoTN when the quest says nothing about it? Typical dumb shit from NCSoft! 69.253.39.117 18:59, 26 October 2010 (UTC) Kristy

It was more than likely an oversight and once they find out (which by now they probably do), they'll probably get it fixed. Also, ArenaNet is not NCsoft. -- Konig/talk 20:05, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
"ArenaNet is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korea-based NCsoft Corporation", so technically it is the same thing.
Irrelevant. NCsoft staff isn't ArenaNet staff with regard to GW development. The two are functionally separate entities, hence the word "subsidiary." Similarly, Activision owns Blizzard, so blaming Activision for a feature you don't like in a Blizzard game is both misplaced and a waste of time. Kruhljak (talk) 10:40, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
It apparently boots you to your last town, not ToA specifically; someone on a forum had a similar complaint.--141.211.56.181 20:29, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

The Master Emerald? Interesting mural as well...[edit]

The first one is baffling, it REALLY reminds me of the Master Emerald from Sonic. the second...reminds me of abbadon for some reason.--99.120.80.244 04:00, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

The second is of a commonly used concept art that has no in-game purpose. It's titled "Hydra" and has been around since Prophecies, I believe - redesigned in Factions but still not used, then the head, which that mural is of, is seen in the NF manual I believe (near the Nightfall prophecy section). Both of those is found in the entries into EN - the emerald you pass right by, in fact. -- Konig/talk 04:16, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

==About the bug to enter in it... One account with GW:EN : never saw the bug. One account without GW:EN : never entered in it...

Maybe...--93.21.70.51 14:40, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

The fact is regardless of who is on the murals, the realm of torment is depicted here. now... how would kryta kings know about the realm of torment? how would the krytan ppl know what tormented demons look like unless the realm of torment affected the mortal world b4. could this have anything to do with a certain ghost king's insanity?
It's a Re-used area so IMO it doesn't have anything to do with the Lore.. --Dragon7 cape emblem.pngThe Holy Dragons 15:26, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Maybe not initially. But now they either declare it as not canon, or they build around it.--Cyberman User Cyberman Mastermind Sig.gif 17:20, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
It's possible that the Krytan Kings simply built their cemetery on top of older ruins... they apparently did the same thing in Lion's Arch.--141.211.56.181 17:44, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Rotscale...[edit]

A guildmate and I killed him and his buddies casually, and no Frozen Soil was on for the whole fight (It still took a while, and Rotscale still hits hard enough to kill in a couple of shots). Is this made easier permanently or is this just part of the Vessel quest? User: Kyubiko 99.246.26.128 15:43, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Frozen Soil is still there. --User Oneshot O.JPGneshot. 15:54, 27 October 2010.
You prolly just had some nice aoe damage that took out the spirits before you noticed them. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 17:26, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
I just took advantage of having the Mad King's Guards along to vanquish the area and it was a LOT easier to take out Rotty and his chums than even normal mode without the extra firepower; Frozen Soil didn't seem to stay up long (all the rottings were casting it but it didn't seem to live long - I guess the MKGs were targeting it and since all the rottings had cast it together... recharge time :)) Having the Mausoleum switch us back to Normal mode afterwards was just the icing on the cake, really :p -- Splodge of Cat 14:24, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Removed EotN Req[edit]

latest update Beleeth 22:43, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Now the mausoleum's a bit strange. Had a weapon w/ an inherent mod and a shield w/ a handle as drops. 24.197.253.243 01:11, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
It's an EotN area with EotN drops. (What's strange is that Proph-only toons are eligible to visit it.)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:19, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
It's an area where EotN weapons drop with inherent modifiers. It might even be possible to get stats that don't exist as inscriptions on spears/scythes. 24.197.253.243 03:57, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Locked Chest[edit]

Unless I'm seeing things, I could swear that when i opened a sarcophagus, a locked chest appeared next to me. o.O 58.96.40.89 09:34, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

I saw the same thing. I deliberately checked for extra locked chests and left three sarcophagi for the end. I went to the farthest one. The first click triggered quest completion. The second spawned the skeleton and the chest.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 10:27, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
I've seen this happen a few times in other areas when something causes more creatures to spawn too. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 14:47, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes. Every time monsters spawn in an area, it seems chests have a chance of spawning, too. I've even seen a Phantom Chest appear in the Underworld when a Reaper appears. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 17:33, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Which Map?[edit]

Does anyone know which dungeon map this uses? I think it's the same one from the quests that get you to EOTN, complete with the asura gate which should lead to Boreal Station (although I haven't tried to see if it works), but I'm not sure. It's kind of annoying, I made a wrong turn after opening the first few sarcophaguses and now I'm lost in a huge area of empty dungeon unable to find my way back because neither of the maps shows anything at all. 109.151.89.145 20:33, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

After more exploration I also found a section that was definately Slavers Excile. I also got very, very lost and almost considered mapping out and starting over from ToA. Would it be worth putting a note on the main page that the map is actually huge and if you move away from the bit you're meant to be in it's very easy to get lost? 109.151.89.145 20:46, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Hard Mode[edit]

"If you're playing in Hard mode, your party will be switched to Normal mode upon entering the Mausoleum." Just checked and this no longer seems to apply. Foes in HM are lvl26 and give the usual better quality of drops and 50% XP (so it really is HM). Skills appear to be the same though. --138.253.87.123 10:11, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Confirmed, thanks for the heads up. I'll remove the note from the article. Tub 14:45, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Run While You Can[edit]

Totally Tedious Quest!--Cyryl Chevalier 03:14, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Running? good luck keeping your buffs and enchantments up. Tub 12:03, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

LoL, nice. What I meant was "Run away from this quest as fast as you can." For a casual gamer, like me, who hasn't completed all four story-lines, specific builds/heroes either aren't available or may not be appealing. So for me, this quest was just a grind that I endured, rather than enjoyed.

I ran past Rotscale after my third party wipe (he had body-blocked the top of the stairs on the first several attempts to pull any of his group or get him to move) only to die in the foyer of the tomb. Special. In a number of places in the tomb where there are large mobs, pulling one member agros most of the mob and it's another party wipe. Good thing I brought a bunch of consumables.--Cyryl Chevalier 23:20, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

I had this fun stuff happen on my first try. A 20+ member mob ate me alive (well, I mapped out before *I* was eaten, but everyone else was appetizer fare). Second try--after the initial room--I patiently waited and as is common to many densely packed areas, some of the subgroups will wander around (not sure they have specific patrol routes), and will separate from the rest in most cases. These can be pulled away from the central mass, though minions and pets can create a mega-mob if not managed properly, as the cores of other groups are often still just a half-aggro bubble away with individual members ranging fairly widely. I don't have l337 skillz, so this area was a decent challenge with a "generic" hero group. Kruhljak (talk) 10:51, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
You shouldn't need an elite team, although you can be more efficient with an optimized team.
  • Move slowly through the mausoleum since (a) there are multiple pop-ups and (b) you can draw aggro from multiple groups without noticing.
  • Bring holy damage: smiters, dervishes, or smiters that can apply holy damage to party members.
  • Bring condition removal (RoJ foes will cause extensive burning).
It's also possible to solo the mausoleum area with an SoS-farmer build (but I don't recommend it; it's very very tedious, esp. since spirits are subject to burning). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:26, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Wow, what a difference Heroes and the PvE skills from Nightfall and EoTN make. This year, no party wipes at all. I used one green rock candy because in the last long room, I managed to aggro just about everybody, but I killed them all without any deaths. I left from ToA as a W/A with Return, to bypass Rotscale, and took 3 Discordway Necros, Meloni and MOX with Avatar of Balthazar and Avatar of Dwayna for holy damage and other benefits (thanks for the suggestion, TEF), Gwen with a Panic build, and Razah with a SoS build. I took HB, Whirlwind Attack, Pain Inverter, "For Great Justice!", Lion's Comfort, and a couple of other skills that didn't matter much in the tomb. Good luck. Good hunting.
