So if the Commando is supposedly a real profession in the future, why is he a Warrior? 96.33.173.168 15:33, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

No other class looks good walking around with a riot shield. -Auron 15:36, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Obviously adding the Commando profession to GW1 too would be too complicated just to show it.. poke | talk 15:40, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
These guys sure know how to dance like a ranger. What CAN'T Commando's do? User Karuro Icon.png Karuro 16:37, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Yep uses ranger dance. Ranger...Commando... I got the joke right off the bat.  ;) 116.84.225.30 20:39, 2 April 2011 (UTC)"Recon is bedda" Ryoko
How do we know he's a warrior anyway? He has only common / monster skills so...? 78.92.2.126 12:41, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
He has a W in front of him once you are in the mission.--Fogeltje 15:05, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Corporal Bane Miniature for the 6th Guildwars Birthday celebrations! Here's hoping Future User Future Signature.png 16:02, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

I want his riot shield in a really really really bad way! (Usaf1a8xx 16:20, 1 April 2011 (UTC))

I'm guessing he's named after Michael Biehn (pretty sure that surname is pronounced 'Bane') who played Kyle Reese, the dude sent back in time to protect Sarah in The Terminator? 95.145.119.227 16:24, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Yep, it would seem so. Also he is a Corporal; Kyle Reese didn't have a rank (as far as I remember) but Michael Biehn's character in Aliens was a Corporal - Corporal Hicks. 110.175.214.221 04:41, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
Actually Reese identified himself to Sarah as "Sergeant, Tech-Com" if my memory serves me correctly.--Fogeltje 10:10, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Affiliation[edit]

Should be Ebon Vanguard as he gives Ebon Vanguard Points and A.R.E.N.A. stands for Advanced Recon Eye of the North Assault. Which seems to be the Ebon Vanguard in 250 years. Asuka 16:21, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

makes sense... but does it matter, HE IS AWESOME! Ocren 17:14, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
I would pay money for that costume in the gw store
The Ebon Vanguard remains the Ebon Vanguard in 250 years, so says the books. This is just a joke. (Edit conflict) 173.185.23.54 18:47, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
@Asuka - Can you provide a reference for the acronym? I'm skeptical at best. Sahjiarah 03:37, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Helicopter[edit]

Just there for decorum, or can we flight with it ? I've seen people selling helicopter ride and people helicopter piece ?

It's just a decoration. Anyone offering a helicopter ride is just trying to be funny (or possibly attempting to scam). Sahjiarah 03:35, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Possible Reference[edit]

It's possible that A.R.E.N.A is a reference to the short story Arena where two combatants of opposing races fight for the survival of their entire race. Thoughts on this? --Rølin

Occam's Razor tells me it's more likely to do with the name of the developer, Arena Net. Cirian 13:23, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
I meant in the context of the quest and NPC... We all know its a reference to Terminator, but multiple things also line up with the short story, such as Coporal Bane's ammunition not coming through the rift and having to rely on riot gear. In the story, the combatants are stripped of anything that would give them an edge over the other (in Bane's case, his guns). --Rølin
I know you don't want to give up, but there's not a very good chance that the short story has anything to do with this. The A.R.E.N.A. is becuase of anet and they left the guns/rockets/ammo/helicopters out because they cannot do it in the game. If they were leaving out any edge they would have taken away the grenades, but he still has them. The only things "taken away" are things that they cannot program into the game. --'Mai Yi' {TC} 14:18, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
Agreed. ARENA is just a reference to the developers. However, in a stretch, I could see a reference in the dialogue about losing their ammo to the fact that time travelers in the Terminator franchise lose their clothing when arriving. It's a stretch, I know. --talk Large 14:22, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Is he staying for longer than April Fools?[edit]

Or will he be removed tomorrow? I currently don't have access to a computer that can play Guild Wars. :( 74.133.146.102 03:38, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

He will reamin in Embark Beach until Monday. source: http://twitter.com/#!/guildwars/status/53936833368821760

Twitter account?[edit]

Is that official? If not it should be mentioned that it's a fan-made twitter account. Markus Clouser User Markus Clouser signature img.jpg 20:10, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Considering how much anet have put into this april fools, i think one of the many arenanet employees must of done it, so yeah. Prolly official. --NeilUser Neil2250 sig icon6.png 00:52, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
It follows only the official ANet twitter accounts, it was retweeted by one of them a few times, it has the same sense of humor as the game, and it posted a picture of Corporal Bane fighting an afflicted boss. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 01:32, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
This (or rather the attached screenshot) is a pretty good evidence imo :P poke | talk 14:28, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
I lol'ed at this one: "Accidentally fragged a monk that was praying at the statue in Ashford Abby. But its all good, history says there's a ghost there anyway." 66.170.212.17 07:27, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Quotes.[edit]

I'm pretty sure theres one more long quote that's not listed. Something about the Golem being nearby and having no mercy, can not be negotiated with etc. Pretty much what Kyle in the Terminator explained about said robot. -Wrei110.175.241.56 06:03, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Just saw that one too, but wasn't quick enough to screen it. It was something like "The Annihilator is out there ... until Sarah is dead.".. Don't get him to say it again :/ Can someone try to find it out? poke | talk 23:47, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed sighting, unfortunately not able to catch a screen, sorry. Cpl. Bane said it when the Golem was near 50%.MystiLefemEle 06:29, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
I think I've seen him say other things as well. like "Weapons free." and "Enemy contact!" oops forgot to sign --76.212.194.117 23:22, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
I got a screenie of quote but dunno how to upload pics. Anyone help? -Wrei110.175.241.56 00:01, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

I have a screenshot of that line too(was taking screenshots like crazy throughout the whole event), but is one really required? And why is there a note that his idle and battle quotes are the same? That is *NOT* true at all! No one else has tried to change that yet? 166.137.9.249 10:57, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

They are the same, but his skills also have quotes to them (e.g. "Grenade!") which you only see during battle (obvious reasons). I watched and saw every dialogue listed - someone put them as battle quotes, I've seen them while he fought (though they were constantly cut off by "Stun grenade out!" and "Tango down!"). No a screenshot is not needed - people usually take screenshots of quotes so that they can be properly documented is all. -- Konig/talk 18:23, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

He never said "Tango sighted. Use of deadly force permitted." or "Enemy contact!" when he was just idling, or any of his other battle quotes. He really does have a set of battle quotes only, and I do not mean attack skills. How exactly can we prove this one way or the other because seeing it set up like that seems so wrong. I have screenshots of quotes only happening at battle or at idle, but I would need screenshots of them happening in the opposite instances too to verify otherwise. By the way, the line is "That Annihilator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop until Sarah is dead." 74.161.128.103 08:39, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

I actually did see "Tango sighted. Use of deadly force permitted." in non-combat (use of "idle" is so misleading!). I didn't bother to screenshot it, unfortunately. I also saw the first five listed on the article during both idle and combat. I never saw the air support or ammo lines, and I don't recall the weapons free being in idle. -- Konig/talk 08:53, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
But that doesnt even make sense :( And I guess when I say idle I mean when there are no enemies within his radar range (alive anyway). So him saying tango *sighted* when there are no enemies near him would make no sense. I spent a *lot* of time just idling with him, taking pictures and hanging out but there were a select few lines he *never* said to me when he was just standing there with me while I was playing with the emotes or looking for extra scraping opportunities. So it really surprised me when I finally saw him say new lines, when he was fighting, so I started capping that, then I went through the whole map having him fight every group and screenshoting his new monologues. And it *was* new monologues and I never saw him say any of his other lines from "idle" while he was fighting. I just don't see how it could be the same for anyone unless it was a bug that was fixed later on. 74.161.128.103 09:28, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

He'll Be Back![edit]

From his Twitter stream: "Since I'm the only A.R.E.N.A member to successfully use the time-gate, I've been appointed the duty of fixing the time anomalies." followed by "So looks like you may be seeing more of me." 66.170.212.17 23:51, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

According to Stéphane Lo Presti on Guild Wars Guru, the Corporal Bane Twitter account isn't run by ArenaNet. --Silver Edge 06:03, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
Aww, too bad. I mean, too bad that he may not be back, not that it was fan-made. They did a wonderful job, very entertaining. 66.170.212.17 09:37, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

One day...[edit]

Maybe... one day... they'll add his shield and nightstick as obtainable items... *stary eyed* 75.89.69.8 19:29, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Location[edit]

It says on the page that he is in Lakeside County and Ashford Catacombs 1070 AE, he talks to the player but isn't there himself. Should these locations be on his page then or should that he does talk to the player be noted in the notes? Sjacie User:Sjacie 18:29, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
