Disguises (2011)[edit]

I have started research here about the assorted disguises that each profession can have. Please feel free to add or clarify. Aqua (T|C) 20:16, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

2011 random grouping[edit]

After a few matches you start to notice between matches it randomises your group. meaning anyone good probably moves to another party. :/ --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 23:57, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Same as last year. Mora 00:02, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
it is a meseaure against Sync groups[1] I guess --67.197.74.197 17:08, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

MM Necro + Flux[edit]

Imo the Flux effect makes them a bit overpowered. They render melees useless with Enfeeble and can easily heal with so many minions... Asuka 08:06, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

They also have very little direct damage. Holy damage tears through the minions well, too (i.e. Holy Spear, Heart of Holy Flame, etc.). I would hardly count them as overpowered, though Necros are pretty good this year in the right circumstances. 97.107.103.46 17:56, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
Then comes the November flux. 24.197.253.243 19:18, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
I'm willing to bet that this build was made the way it is because of the flux. I doubt Verata's Gaze would have been included otherwise, because if you happened to not be against another necro, you would never have a minion to steal. With this flux plus the necro designed the way it is, necros can get in to power struggles against each other for control of higher level minions (AotL summons level 16, the flux summons level 20). Aura of the Lich anomaly[edit]

Because of the way attributes work in Costume Brawl, AotL does not offer the +1 to death magic. The game automatically resets it to 14. I'm just not sure where to note this. [ Tyloric ] User Tyloric t.jpg [ Talk ] 18:17, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

This is also true for Weakness's -1 effect. [ Tyloric ] User Tyloric t.jpg [ Talk ] 22:17, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Necros have unspent (usable) attribute points[edit]

Necromancers have the following attribute points this year:

Soul Reaping: 11
Curses: 7
Death Magic: 14

But on my level 20 necromancer (with a +1 death magic helm, minor death magic rune, minor curses rune and minor soul reaping rune) this leaves 21 unused points. Shouldn't Curses be bumped up to 9? --Combatter 22:28, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

There is a flaw in your theory. Hint: "rune" Konig/talk 22:37, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
Necro build has some limitations, AoTL doesn't provide the bonus due to CB effect, and Weakness only reduces damage dealt, has no effect on the -1 attribs. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 22:51, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
No he's right the necro does have unused attriute points. The dervish has 14 (12+1+1) scythe mastery, 12 (10+2) mysticism and 9 (8+1) earth prayers wich is much more points that the necromancer has and it includes rune modification. Da Mystic Reaper 23:31, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
I disagree that there is a flaw in my theory, Konig. The 'disguises' are meant to set attributes to a similar level to that in 'normal' level 20 PvP. Also take a look at the Elementalist who has the following attributes this year:
Energy Storage: 11
Fire Magic: 14
Water Magic: 9
i.e. the elementalist gets 14,11,9 but the necromancer gets only 14,11,7 --Combatter 23:33, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
Along with simulating level 20 pvp, it also is worked to be balanced. Is the necromancer underpowered? If not, it was intentionally done, hence my comment of a flaw - numbers matter less than effectiveness. Also, I don't think this year's monk attributes are possible without having wtf low health.Konig/talk 23:56, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
The stats for Curses is intentionally lower than what is possible. This is because we found during testing that higher values made Necros very difficult to skirmish when playing a martial profession. --Robert User Robert Gee sig icon.png Gee 00:01, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Ah ok, thanks Robert --Combatter 00:03, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Newcomers[edit]

Is White Mantle Ritualist supposed to be Inquisitor Bauer? Who is Kournan Phalanx supposed to be? --Falconeye 04:30, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

There just aren't a lot of noteworthy characters of every class. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 04:34, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Inquisitor Bauer seems pretty arbitrary to me. I'm not convinced it's supposed to be him. Was he chosen to be the name of the disguise simply because he has the same skin and he's a boss? He only appears in one quest. Is there any sort of verification that it's him instead of just a normal White Mantle Ritualist? --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 05:43, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
I think just better to note him as White Mantle Ritualist. They both use the same skin, so there is no way to distinguish one from the other unless ANet actually says who's who. EDIT: Though, now that I think about it, that would make this the only costume who's not named after an actual character. DOUBLE EDIT: I lied. The paragon doesn't have a name either. :3 [ Tyloric ] User Tyloric t.jpg [ Talk ] 17:45, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Regarding the 3rd female paragon skill i'd say Commander Varesh would be a better choise that Kournan Phalanx. I know we got Varesh Ossa as dervish but it would be a better choise imo than an unnamed enemy, unless the last one is supposed to be a boss. Da Mystic Reaper 11:19, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

bug[edit]

I have experienced the same bug here as in alliance battles. Both teams reach 20 but instead of being simultaneous, points are assigned to blue before red so blue wins.--War_Pig5 11:06, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

At alliance battles this is dependant of the faction Kurzick, Luxon. (K is first in the alphabet). this could possibly be Blue, Red. anyhow I'll try and find a more trustworthy reason. The Holy Dragons --31.151.75.38 12:28, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
Any change it's the team that posseses the most shrines wins when both hit 20? Da Mystic Reaper 13:07, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
Chance* and possible I will now do some matches of Costume Brawl trying to simulate this. --you like that don't you..The Holy Dragons 14:10, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

Tisk tisk, same old story it seems...[edit]

Eles and sins yet again get the spotlight in CB. No point in playing much else besides the MM taking advantage of all the free roaming minions. Tried my ranger and get facerolled before I even reach a shrine. Worst ranger build I have seen in a long time for this. Warrior is just as bad. I wonder when they will get enough of their sin fetish and give other classes a chance at playing lol. (btw yes I played my sin in there, was a win everytime and I got bored with it as I always do playing sin) Nay the One and Only User Nay the One and Only SIG.jpg 19:37, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

In the past, I always was best as a rit. So it's not the "same old story" imo - though I haven't played rit this year so idk, but based on your testimony with my experience, ele and rit need switching to be accurate. :p Konig/talk 19:45, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Imo wars are much better than eles or sins:) ur just bad --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 158.129.26.13 (talk).

Are you crazy? The rangers have decent damage and degen, cripple, decent healing, and good condition removal. I take my ranger out and kill the assassins with ease; savage shot is fun in a combo. Getting steamed by the elementalist? Easy as heck, interupt the oh-so-fast 2 casting time of immolate, or just use antidote signet. By my view and experience, the ele and sin are terrible now. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 174.4.82.34 (talk).

Yeah, you shouldn't be getting facerolled elementalists. You have naturally high armour vs them, rupts and poison. Warriors should be crippled and then laughed at. --41.132.3.27 09:55, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

I've had most wins using my paragon TBH :P minions + Holy spear = bye bye other team! --31.151.75.38 10:21, 1 November 2011 (UTC) --you like that don't you..The Holy Dragons 10:22, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
"interupt the oh-so-fast 2 casting time of immolate". Immolate doesn't have a 2 second casting time. --Silver Edge 05:34, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

2013[edit]

Sad, another ghost town just like JQ and FA. Oh well, maybe next year... 220.255.2.24 05:56, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

It will most likely be the same next year. JQ usually has players during its weekly bonus. When there wasn't a finale happening in Halloween 2007 and 2008, the only Halloween activities were Costume Brawl, farming Trick-or-Treat Bags in PvE or farming trophies for Halloween collectors. Since Halloween 2009, Halloween quests (and Everlasting Mobstopper farming) and Scarred Psyche have been introduced. On top of that, this year weekly bonuses occur while Halloween is active; previously no weekend event was active at the same time as Halloween. If someone wanted to acquire Trick-or-Treat Bags instead of buying them from someone else, they will most likely do one of the other Halloween activities instead of Costume Brawl (since Costume Brawl is a slow method to get ToT bags). If someone wanted to get Gamer points, they will most likely do Scarred Psyche, since (unlike Costume Brawl) you can enter with heroes and it doesn't require any PvP. If someone wanted to PvP or gain Balthazar faction, they would most likely do the current PvP weekly bonus for double Balthazar faction, which is Alliance Battles this week and Random Arenas next week (both of which allow you to choose what skills you bring unlike Costume Brawl). So this leaves Costume Brawl being something people no longer participate in. --Silver Edge 21:31, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
I actually like the preset builds in Costume Brawl, unlike other PvP arenas where you can run into players with really OP builds or frustrating healers/protectors. Wolcott (talk) 03:54, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
