- Me as attack Spirit Spammer with Painful Bond, Vekk and Sousuke as air spikers, Jin dazing, Mhenlo, Lina, Devona, and Herta. I just flagged them as I set up spirits and ran Kegs. Only had to take down the carapace once. This was at the end of the storyline quest, though. Might be different in normal runs. Ayumbhara 19:24, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Even IF you spread out, but get bad popups (ie, at the other end of the cavern you have to watch your step in) he will utterly rape your (hench/hero) team; either you get your initial setup (before his first popup) absolutely right and get lucky where he spawns (preferably on top of Budger) or you can restart your tedious trip down there all over again. The combination of enforced keg running, having to watch out where you walk, constantly getting pelted with that utterly ridiculous Pyroclastic Shot (from practically Compass Range!), the short window of time where you CAN damage him, the 4 pips health regen (That's 8hp PER SECOND regained) and KD-causing default attacks makes this Boss a PRIME candidate for removal or intense negative adjustment by Development and/or Game Balance teams. But hey, it certainly separates the casual players from the hardcore ones - the first group quits and is tormented by never being able to purge the quest from their logs, the second group just calls the first ones "nubs" and go on to bigger things ... Really easy boss, just killed it in NM is less than 20 seconds. I used 6 Necromancer Discord heroes and rushed in with chests while i flagged all heroes back to healing aggro, 3 kegs took 10 seconds then heroes killed faster than it took for waiting to get kegs! --50.104.227.180 23:41, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Why remove powder keg explosion?
Ok, I dont get it. To the best of my knowledge this IS a skill used by Cyndr the Mountain Heart.--Lensor (talk) 11:36, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, he definitely uses that -- Cynaes 11:39, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- He does not uses this "skill", this so called skill is actually a consequence of you holding Powder Keg when you are struck by Pyroclastic Shot thus causing it to explode.--78.3.25.51 03:18, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, it is more like a skill, since it is possible to hold a keg, be hit with the pyro shot, and still successfully drop the keg. It is not a consequence of holding it. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 173.29.226.121 (talk) at 22:28, 2 August 2010 (UTC).

- I fought him last night, any powder keg explosion was caused by the keg runner getting hit with a pyroclastic shot. Cyndr doesn't use a skill by the name of powder keg explosion. If you have screenshots that show otherwise then let's see them. --Tankity Tank 03:25, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- Powder keg explosion is not a monster skill. It's more like spirit attacks. A skill unleashed by other skill. It should be stated inside Pyroclastic Shot and this page~'s notes. MithranArkanere 04:41, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Kinda embaressed, the first time I fought this guy I didnt use a single keg that I recall, I just degened him to death. I guess I thought he has really high health and high armour lol. He was still easy. Dancing Gnome 02:46, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Soloed her
I just soloed her. All you have to do is bind a button to to DROP an item, then cast prot spirit on yourself or have a hench do it. Get a few powder kegs and run back and forth until she dives under. She will come up right next to the keg guy. Then you just Space and use the button you bound to drop (in my case 0) So space + 0 spam. YOu will unleash about 300 kegs and then they start to explode, and almost kill her in about 3-5 secs flat. I must say, LOL. LordSojar 08:12, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- You do know that the default button for dropping a bundle is your Weapon Select button, right? If you select weapon set 1, 2, 3 or 4 while holding a bundle, you drop it. Yeah, that tactic works, but I couldn't get him/her to spawn next to the Dwarf. 89.136.42.26 14:55, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- If you can survive long enough to get one keg to him, you can eventually get him to spawn next to Blackpowder (by chance). -- Arkhar 20:06, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- Is not effective at all since the Blackpowder nerf.--Zathic 20:34, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Degeneration does not work
Poisoned, bleeding, on fire, all at the same time. Not a pixel of health lost without the armor being blown off. Deep wound affected it's maximum health.--Zathic 20:38, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- The only kind of degen that will affect Cyndr is hex-related, because it is unaffected by conditions (other than deep wound and poison, which should have worked) while the carapace is on.67.167.28.107 05:42, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
- When the carapace is active, he can only be affected by poison and deep wound. Since he has a health regeneration of 4 pips, he won´t loose health because of poison. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.56.214.165 (talk) at 17:03, 24 October 2007 (UTC).
This dude can not have degen while its shield id up. It is not immune to poison/bleeding/disease but they can only negate the innate 4-pip regen, cant go below zero.
- If you put only bleeding it will end up with 1 regen (4 - 3)
- If you put only poison it will end up with 0 regen (4 - 4)
- If you put both bleeding and poison it will end up with 0 regen (4 - 4 - 3 but capped to 0)
You can think of it just like if the ordinary -10 degen cap is raised to 0 in the case of Cyndr. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.121.84.214 (talk).
Grenth's Balance
Just wondering, but would GB work on Cyndr? It's not really a direct attack, and doesn't do damage, but life stealing. Wouldn't that work? (74.248.192.19 02:13, 9 October 2007 (UTC))
- From what is being said above, about life stealing, I am assuming it would. Regardless, though, she/he has a lot of health, and getting to her with a couple ppl with GB (through the 3 stages) would be more pain than it is worth. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.249.216.147 (talk) at 04:01, 14 January 2008 (UTC).
Mess
Could someone do something about the notes section? It's not...nice. Backsword 16:20, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Easily done with a necro hero...
Just have livia or master take rotting flesh with vampiric gaze and barbed signet. Offering of blood works to.
Have 2 hero monks and have them running back and forth to livia casting prot spirit / healing breeze to combat burning + massive damage. Takes a while, but requires little effort and is really, really easy. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.146.48.158 (talk) at 19:25, 12 September 2008 (UTC).
- I beat him with a slightly different team. 3 monks, 3 blood necromancers, and two interrupters (I'm not sure weakness really helped). Spread them out in front of that scary beast, and the necros will eat him up in less than a minute. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ys Mist (talk) at 15:06, 4 August 2010 (UTC).
Trivia?
It seems to me much more likely that the name is simply a creative spelling of the word cinder, in reference to the fact that the boss uses fire magic. Has anyone specifically stated that the "Cyndr-ele" interpretation is correct? I think that's a bit of a stretch compared to the more obvious reference. --72.190.91.37 02:43, 27 September 2008 (UTC) ^ -- Vorith (talk•contribs) 02:44, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- I highly doubt this is a Cinderella reference. Since that would make...little to no sense at all... 66.202.1.169 11:29, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Easy
Cyndr is alot easier to beat when there is a group of compitent people with you. I dont care what anyone says, its really difficult to kill her with a henchie only team. We beat her the first time, just load up on the blast kegs before you go in, and then drop em all at her feet and keep running them. She will go down in a hurry.--Nolan Al Thane 18:49, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

I'd hoped this was solo-able quest (as most of GW was supposed to be)
I am completely stuck as a solo player at this point. Not only is it a long way down to reach this boss, the tutorials for defeating Cyndr are not exactly forthcoming, organized or accurate: #1 No mention of pyroclastic shot and it's devastating effects: Powder keg explodes in hand. Damage to player with armor level 60 is over 250 points. RANGE: full compass circumference. AFTER EFFECT: Seven-seconds of dual burning and cripple conditions. #2 As Death Penalty accumulates, pyroclastic shot (always Cyndr's first line of attack when a keg is in a players hand) becomes a one-shot, one-kill situation. #3 A ranger using poison does not keep ahead of the regeneration as cited. #4 Once carapace is gone, you have two-seconds before he burrows and resurfaces with a new, fully intact, hex and direct damage ignoring armor plate.
IMO the tutorial needs an update, and should include sections for single players and group play.
Unfortunately many tutorial ideas leave this reader unsure when it's talking about a strategy involving several "RL" players, vs. a solo player trying to best the beast.
I'd like to see the tutorial reorganized, and revised for the preponderance of individual players that are not having success with this quest. As far as other reader comments go, the first comment says it best, although I'll revise it slightly: Quest RAPES single players with hero's and henchmen. Unfairly difficult for solo player. Quest should be moved to an area that requires 1 platinum to visit. Quest Reward should include high end rare crafting piece.
Of the people I've spoken with, and in reading the other comments from successful players, you will see the same recurring theme (with my slight revision): Cyndr popped up Budger's bung and was easily kegged to death. Oh, and I even got rewarded with Cyndr's <fill in the unique item> - "LOL, you're still stuck on that quest?"
Laughable
cecil 16:06, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- How to Hero/hench this: Form a strong party of 6 damage dealers, 1 healer, and 1 damage preventer. Fight your way to Cyndr. Activate a full set of consumables and remove any death penalty in the tunnel before the fight. Spread out the AI units via flags so that they cannot be wiped as easily. You'll then start running kegs, make sure you use, or force a hero to use, a good defensive skill on yourself. Use kegs to weaken the carapace, then deal as big of a spike as possible. Repeat the keg run>spike process until the boss is dead.72.161.101.116 22:14, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- This quest is indeed far more difficult done by a single with H/H than by a team of players who can already enter the fight each one carrying a keg. However, it is also the case for a few other missions, such as Aurora Glade, The Eternal Grove, etc. Just team up with a couple guildies or even PUGs to get it done, it won't kill you to play with others once in a while, and be happy over 95% of the game can be solo'd with H/H anyway. --Sensei 14:33, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Surprisingly easy
Protective bond from a monk hero, player with signet of spirits, vampirism, blood song, cranked channelling. Flag everyone near the res shrine, cast prot bond on player, agro Cyndr, drop kegs, on waiting for last keg to blow, cast spirits. Go get more kegs if you want, but you probably won't need em. 203.219.15.44 14:48, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- Works in HM. He has some odd KD if you get too close, so keep him busy by putting spirits up around the place to distract him. If you have all the spirits up as the last keg goes in, whack painful bond on him and he dies before carapace recharges. 203.219.15.44 15:13, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yer went with a party with my Rt... found the spirits spread out took care of him real fast after we unloaded a few kegs on him... MrPaladin talk 19:52, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

This note...
"Bring 8 players and all bring kegs. First drop 3 kegs for Carapace loss. After that, drop all the other kegs"
Normally, he will be dead by then. If not, let warriors give the last hits." I had a problem with "If not, let warriors give the last hits". It sounds too random and specific. Not only Warriors deal damage, and not all teams even have Warriors. So I have changed this part to: "If not, the party can easily deal the final amounts of damage needed for the kill." --Sensei 14:40, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Drops section
Cyndr is a boss like any other... why is there no drop section of the main page to say what his unique items are dropped, let alone anything else. Also his unique's are not mentioned in the dungeon page.
For someone who is going to do that, he drops at least a Cyndr's Edge.[User:Diseraph|Diseraph]] 10:55, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, 'his' drops are on the chest page, because they technically drop from the chest. They don't belong on his page, even if they are named after him.--h. 11:18, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Weird weirdness is weird
OK, so I just H/Hed this. Tedious getting to Cyndr himself, and I'm glad I normally carry a complete stack of Honeycombs.
Build info: Necro/Ranger 20, Light of Deldrimor, Pain Inverter, Vampiric Gaze, Ravenous Gaze, Barbed Signet, Necrosis, Life Siphon, something else I can't remember what it was, Death Magic 12, Soul Reaping 13, Blood Magic 11, Dwarf rank 5, Asura rank 4, Sunspear rank 8. No, I know it's not a great build for this, but I won, so cut me some slack, OK?
Anyway, I barged into Cyndr's room, and kegged him twice, before finding a weird spot inside spell range where I could chip away his health using Vampiric Gaze and Angorodon's Gaze, with Barbed Signet to stop his regen. Cool. My heroes and henchies had a rough time of it, and when I finally dropped Cyndr, they were all dead.
So, what's the weird part? After Cyndr wiped out my last hero/henchie, he proceeded to ignore me as I sucked off his health. Cynique 08:58, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- my first question is, why did your H/H team die?, Second, did you do research before fighting him? 65.191.246.62 02:27, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- First answer: because I did something wrong, possibly including not taking along one or more human players. Second answer: yes, of course, which is why I took the life stealing skills. My comment here was not about my level of general achievement/skill (which was a bit lacking, that's true), but on the weirdness of standing there casting life steal spells on an enemy that was blatantly ignoring my existence, even after my character was the last person standing. 2.5.51.107 03:27, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
