Talk:Hearts of the North
Thrid item broken sword is in ettins back
Oh Dear Lord, what is this world coming to. Headchopperz 00:05, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- Apparently hearts, in the north. -- Konig/talk 00:17, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- Now that we have actual content for this thing, I think we can merge the Gwen and Thackeray page to this one. Since we no longer need that place-holder page. --Musha 01:25, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. Hearts of the North is the official name for that. But we'd better move that to a "Hearts of the North dialogue" page akin to the War in Kryta dialogues page. -- Konig/talk 01:50, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

War in Kryta subsection?[edit]
With medals of honor being the reward... It would seem that Hearts of the North might be better categorized as part of WiK? Just a thought.--Musha 01:38, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- It surrounds the War in Kryta - starts before and independently, ends after and independently. It's not part of the War in Kryta, but requires it. It's part of Guild Wars Beyond, just as the War in Kryta is. -- Konig/talk 01:50, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- So I suppose, then, that all GWB content on Tyria will reward Medals of Honor. --Musha 02:39, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- It's possible that all GWB content will reward MoH. We just have to wait and see. Miku is the link to Cantha. -- Wyn talk 02:42, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- Good. Then the price of Oppressor Weapons won't be so damn high. Then again, it's a reason to farm War Supplies. I guess that'll die soon. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.70.253.223 (talk).
- No, I farm War Supplies for Royal Gifts to get minis, not waste them on Medals of Honor. Still need Evennia. Ramei Arashi 08:43, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- Eh, that's just standard economic craziness caused by the HoM calculator. Not gonna subside until Medals flood the market or GW2 comes out.--Zetta 02:45, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- @Musha: Not necessarily, as nothing else thus far is directly linked to the War in Kryta (the lore explanation for the MoH rewards could be due to the Ebon Falcons' role in the WiK). If there's a direct tie to the War in Kryta, then other GWB stuff may give more Medals of Honor, but it's far too soon to claim such. -- Konig/talk 02:49, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- @Wyn. Ah yes. Didn't they say that something from the Gwen/Thack story would link to Cantha? --Musha 02:51, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Bug?[edit]
I've just had Thackeray spawn as I was heading to the pool to complete the Arrowhead quest. Dialogue 2 from the Gwen and Thackeray page played out. Weird ._. 173.248.218.210 10:39, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- Happened again. Dialogue 4 this time. 173.248.218.210 10:58, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- More of an anomaly. You see, if you did the WiK content via The War in Kryta, you skip dialogue in the Hall of Monuments and the Shining Blade camp. So that dialogue will play next time you enter the location. -- Konig/talk 11:30, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- BTW, this is intentional. The only issue is when you have the Hearts of the North content going (i.e., didn't see the dialogue before finishing the WiK), but it's not a bug. -- Konig/talk 11:30, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- I see. Thanks. Just thought it was weird that Gwen was sending me off on a quest to find Keiran when he was right there xD 173.248.218.210 11:36, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

finding clues harder with wanted quests[edit]
If you have any wanted quests active you may want to finish them or abandon them before looking for the clues, they make it harder since you have to fight (or run past) peacekeepers and white mantle that are not normally there. Ramei Arashi 17:12, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

How the hell did he get back into main kryta? ,If his tracks "stop" north of giants basin, does that mean he swam BACK again?, second, Where the fuck is his man-ponytail gone? --Neil • 00:58, 21 November 2010 (UTC) (Keiran, i mean.) --Neil • 01:27, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
- He probably lost the band-thingie for his ponytail. As for the tracks, as the four missions take place the day of the Battle for LA and the 4th being shortly after, the tracks are probably from after the missions, where he would of then went west to Anvil Rock (rather than going west then north). -- Konig/talk 01:31, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
- The ponytail probably had clipping issues with the top hat he'll soon be wearing. Note that Gwen makes mention of it at the end of the proposal dialogue[1]. PJ 05:13, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

I don't think we were floating when we played as Thackeray, were we? Meh, I had just imagined that maybe he was kidnapped by Mursaat or something. 24.46.99.66 01:52, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Farming[edit]
I notice that it says it is possible to farm this mission for War Supplies. Although I don't see a way to retake this the mission of Rise. Do you have to redo The Mantle's Guise in order to be allowed to redo Rise? Just curious. Varuuth 05:51, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- The Mantle's Guise is not repeatable. Only the four missions are, from the Scrying Pool - you will still, of course, need to have the bow. -- Konig/talk 05:57, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Auspicious Beginnings can be done two minutes faster than Rise (8 versus 6 in my experience), killing the mobs on the way. It may be possible to run past everything, right to Danthor. When I tried I almost made it, but the last mob had "You're All Alone!" and some degen and I died. Do you get Vanguard rep for successive completions too? It would be much more efficient than vanquishing, although more tedious. Manifold 16:42, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- You get the same amount of Vanguard rep as the first time :p --neshot. 16:50, 22 November 2010.
- It is possible to run past everything in the first mission (probably on others too), rock candies are working in those missions, the problem is the sin wont catch up, if you get to the end without her, the boss/last mob wont spawn. I tryed afterward to "drag" the sin to me, once you are a bit farther than agro range, she will auto-follow and disengage from any combat, it took me way longer to do that than just fighting, since she died several times (shes not affected by the rock candy).82.224.68.40 07:30, 24 November 2010 (UTC)nobody

The end?[edit]
Did anyone else think that the reunion of keiran and gwen may be the end of HoN? 21:55:08 (UTC)80.200.162.221
- Dot dot dot --Neil • 21:57, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- It isn't. There's a wedding in Olafstead - been known since Hearts of the North was released. We, in fact, knew of the wedding near the beginning of the War in Kryta. There's at least one more piece of the Hearts of the North. It may also include the Ebon Vanguard being recalled to Ascalon. -- Konig/talk 23:00, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- In an interview it was said that there will be 6 quests and 4 missions, we've had 5 quests so there is one more to come. http://guildwars.incgamers.com/blog/comments/hearts-of-the-north-qa/
- I believe they actually meant missions as those 4 indeed repeatable BMP-style Keiran quests, which are also called mini-missions on their pages. And Reunion is a clear quest. So there should be 5 regular quests to go, probably about collecting stuff for the wedding. tazer 17:25, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- However, you have The Arrowhead, The Tarnished Emblem, The Broken Sword, and The Mantle's Guise. Four quests+Reunion=5. However, I wouldn't doubt that John was not meaning those four as being part of the six quests. -- Konig/talk 22:46, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- I think it's safe to assume that those four quests where you find items are part of the six quests, seeing as he replied "Most of the quests will center on finding certain items that pertain to Keiran’s travels and bringing them back to the scrying pool in the Hall of Monuments." in the interview. Give Miku the pet interface[edit]
She wasn't made a henchman for some reason (thematic?) but she really needs to at least be given the simple pet interface. Having to run your ranger in to grab aggro, then bail out like mad and hope she grabs most of it, is a pretty miserable experience.

Story?[edit]
So... I am just having a hard time understanding the story here... Could somebody explain the lore for me? Not the lore of Gwen & Thackeray, but the lore of the mini-missions? Why is Miku here? Who is Danthor? Why is Miku chasing after Danthor? What is Danthor trying to do and why has he taken so many White Mantle troops away from the Battle for Lion's Arch? Why is Lt. Thackeray back down south of Lesser Giant's Basin when Captain Langmar's grave was found north? Etc... --Musha 00:14, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
- The Miku and Danthor stuff is a lead-in to Winds of Change, I believe. Manifold 00:23, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
- Miku is there because Keiran happened to meet her. She's in Kryta because she left Cantha for reasons still unknown - in Kryta, she apparently found a new home, which Danthor ruined (there's mentioning of finding a new family and Danthor branded them as traitors), which is why she's after Danthor. Danthor's trying to fulfill plans - while never explicitly stated what said plans are, they most likely are what's written in the White Mantle Missive (which acts as a NPC with dialogue), which answers explicitly why there were troops in the Maguuma and not at the battle. Why Keiran is in Kryta again has never been explained. But he stated he was on the run when he met Miku, so it's possible the White Mantle's tracks where part of the supposed assaults, and they led him back south. If he was between the two basins (it never said where along the Lesser Giant's Basin he was), it's highly likely he got trapped by White Mantle still nearby Demetra and was forced south, and then west to avoid all the other White Mantle and Jade construct troops. -- Konig/talk 00:49, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
- Getting around to things late, here. But yeah, Konig's basically got it correct. Keiran had been gradually forced to where he had been as a result of skirmishes / avoiding the larger White Mantle forces on the move (hence why he looks so beat up during the missions.) Keiran and Miku meeting was entirely by chance - she was out there on her own agenda. The events that led her to be there, as well as what they mean moving forward, are one of the important story points of Winds of Change. John Stumme 00:27, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Important Figure?[edit]
I was wondering whether Valgar Tempestcrafter should be added to the "Important Figures" list. He plays a role in the initial quest from Keiran, making the pendant that is imbued with Gwen's mother's spirit. He also acts as the overall wedding planner for the wedding. As far as I know, these are the only two times this NPC actually has a role in the game. Nym 20:59, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- He also speaks on Thackeray's behalf during the wedding. -- Konig/talk 21:11, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- Good point. By contrast, Danthor the Adamant is listed, yet he is only encountered in 2 quests (not to say he isn't important). Valgar makes an appearance in three relatively important points of the Hearts of the North storyline. Nym 01:05, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Weird Bug - Ebon Vanguard Allies[edit]
I've just come across an issue involving the completion of the Battle of Lion's Arch. Ofcourse Keiran goes missing after this quest and you are able to start the Hearts of the North. However I hadn't finished the Ebon vangaurd allies quest and in particular his scavenger hunt. I had picked up the quest after the story arc was added and had done some of the previous quests before hand. I can't imagine too many peopel running into this. Ofcourse i cannot abandon ebon vanguard allies and yes i have tried to go see Salma. Anyone been in this situation, maybe i can continue the ill hearted plan for some odd reason when o#ve finished hearts of the north instead? --Smithy-Star 20:22, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, that's a tad inconvenient. This is the first I've heard of this happening. If I were you, I'd send a quest bug report to support. They might be able to reset the quest for you. --Musha 20:52, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- I was stuck in that situation for a while too. I contacted A-Net and they said they couldn't remove the quest and suggested I team up with someone who had access to it and complete it then. I quickly disregarded this idea, and after a few weeks, the quest magically disappeared from my log. I'm not entirely sure what fixed it, but there's two ideas for you. ~Farlo Talk 21:09, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- I think it had something to do with one of the assination quests i was on at the time when the arc was introduced. I was able to see Kieran up to the point of the battle of lions arch and give him items, but i didnt give him candles or exotic food. I'll keep you updated on my situation, I've managed to complete the reunion quest, lets see if Thackaray comes back to accept the final things. Like i said though, I can't see this being a problem for many people as this involved before the arc was introduced. People should just make sure the ebon vanguard quest is done before the battle. --Smithy-Star 21:19, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

- It is very annoying for anyone who stopped playing in the middle of the various changes. However, as noted above, you can team up with anyone who has access to the scavenger hunt (in the name of science, I even completed WiK entirely to see if you could still manage to get some paper wrapped parcels afterward → you can). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:26, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Awful quests are awful.[edit]
These have got to be the most annoying, frustrating, poorly designed quests in the entire game. You're expected to take on mobs designed for a full group of balanced characters, with an incomplete, poorly made skillset and only two characters, one of whom does not aggro correctly and cannot be relied on, including mobs that can rez repeatedly, minion masters that make level 25 golems and some very spike damaging casters. Even trying my best with the interrupts and syncing up the sniper shot (difficult with its cooldown), I still failed these quests several times, just on pure luck of which mobs I encountered and whether Miku managed to tank anything.
Pure luck should NOT determine quest success, it's crap design.121.98.80.77 09:08, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
- There are only 3 enemies per group, which is easily do-able solo with an AI. And your skill set actually is good - perhaps you just don't know how to utilize it correctly. A tip - fire a shot, then retreat, and let Miku take aggro and once she does, fire on the same Target. If she hexes them, only then, if the NPC isn't low on health, should you use the sniper shot. Observe your skills ability - brain cells are needed, not luck. Konig/talk 16:06, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
- Fine then, the comments stay, as rude as your's are. If you had read mine, I was in fact using the skills, or attempting to. I waited for the hex call, and made sure to use the condition restore and heals as needed. I do in fact have brain cells, basic reading ability and comprehension. I even read the recommendations posted here before doing the quest. And yet, I still failed several times due to bad luck on which mobs I encountered. Especially when all 3 in the group have reusable rezzes, or when Miku gets her pretty little head smashed in by a L25 flesh golem. But yes, thank you for the tip, I will remember it next time I do the quest. Oh wait, I was already doing that.121.98.80.77 03:07, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
- Late, but I see one thing that may help: It's entirely possible (and almost required to complete this) that Miku tank at least one enemy (preferably all, and it usually works, outside of a couple spots in Rise or if you overaggro). Run in, aggro, run out past Miku - her aggro will trigger when they get close to her and she'll shadowstep to one and grab his attention, usually calling him which lets you take one out with Sniper Shot immediately, at which point she will grab a second and you're generally fine. It took me some practice, but I've found that all of the quests are reliably completable without consumables. If you're having trouble, remember that you can run away (on any mission except Rise); the mobs will eventually lose aggro, and in a bit, Miku will respawn. That's generally the easiest way to recover from a mistake without restarting the mission. Lillian ap Cor 13:43, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Walkthrough[edit]
After completing Battle for Lions Arch, To unlock the first quest, visit the Hall of Monuments and watch the dialogue where four Ebon Vanguard members notify Gwen about what happened to Lieutenant Thackeray and Captain Langmar after the Battle for Lion's Arch. A scout also appears in Ice Cliff Chasms, just outside the Eye of the North, who tells you to search for Keiran in Kryta.
Your first clue is found in Watchtower Coast, North-West of Beetletun — it is an Embedded Arrowhead, which starts the quest The Arrowhead. Complete it, equip Keiran's Bow given by Gwen in the Hall of Monuments, speak to the Scrying Pool and choose "Show me the story of the arrowhead." to enter a solo mini-mission, Auspicious Beginnings.
Your second clue is a Tarnished Emblem, found in Majesty's Rest, just East of the portal from the Sage Lands. An easy way to reach it is to head East from The Wilds. The Emblem gives you The Tarnished Emblem quest, which takes you back to the Hall of Monuments. Once complete, equip Keiran's Bow again, speak to the Scrying Pool, and choose "Show me the story of the tarnished emblem." to enter the second mini-mission, A Vengeance of Blades.
Your third clue is a Broken Sword, found in the center of Ettin's Back. Head South from Ventari's Refuge, go East through the passage where Hember is, and turn back North, follow clock-wise around the large ravine to find the sword. It gives you the quest The Broken Sword. Repeat the steps as before and choose "Show me the story of the broken sword." at the Scrying Pool to enter the third mini-mission, Shadows in the Jungle.
Your last clue is a Shining Blade Cloak, found in a ravine that runs North-South through the center of Watchtower Coast. It gives you the quest The Mantle's Guise. Follow the steps as before and choose "Show me the story of the Mantle's guise." to enter the last mini-mission, Rise.
After you complete the last mission, Gwen tells you she wants to meet Keiran on his way, and gives you the quest Reunion.
