Any objections to the move? --Xasxas256 09:42, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

No objections whatsoever. Do we weight for a third opinion or should we move it? --Phoenix File:Phoenix-sig.png 19:25, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
well if you are waiting for a third opinion then here it is. ^^ move it! =] --Alien User Alien Sig.png 19:31, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Made the move. now that i see how it looks I'm thinking maybe it should have been just Login announcements --Phoenix File:Phoenix-sig.png 08:57, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

I think the current one is better as it is more specific. It refers to announcements on the login screen. But I suppose a redirect wouldn't hurt either. -- ab.er.rant sig 01:55, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

weekend events

are they ever going to do a gwen titles bonus weekend? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:75.165.112.222 .

Probably when GW:EN Hard Mode goes in. - Tanetris 23:40, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Wish granted :) Arduinna 23:05, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
Erhm, seems like they changed that cause I get a statement of an "Alliance Faction Bonus Weekend". If they decided to change the bonus weekends event at the same day, they suck!! I´ve been looking forward to this weekend all week and now, at the same day it´s supposed to begin, they change it!?!? --85.228.100.33 16:11, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
This probably means that they had some problems with the hard mode update and decided to push the hard mode release and the special weekend to next week. -- Gem (gem / talk) 16:16, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Well if there has been a problem with gwen hard mode which means we couldnt have the special weekend they could have at least said sorry. Why does it have to be a double faction event anyway we had one of those only about 2 weeks back. Surely they could think of something we havn't had for a while like a free UW/FoW day or something similar. FirstSunspear 16:22, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Sorry for doublepost but it looks like the Alliance Battles announcment is a bug as it says it will run untill Sunday September 30th, which was the end of last month and the end of the last Alliance Battles event. FirstSunspear 17:48, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Really odd. There was also a new build right before this too, but it's not posted yet.--Valshia 18:25, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Someone in AC said that they fixed the login screen message back to double repu. Can't check though as I'm in a mission. -- Gem (gem / talk) 18:26, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
GWEN Hard mode is active! --Valshia 18:28, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

i wish they would do another light bringer and sun spear point weekend again. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:75.172.44.121 (talk).

Wish granted? lol --Hawk SkeerUser Hawk Skeer Assassin.png 22:03, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I agree... Still havent figured out why the scroll weekend is so great.. If Double XP is a good thing.. then why not have something attached to exps besides skill points. How about a green drop weekend, or double NF EoTN rep points again. I do like the double vanquish for gold.. but double drop rate on scrolls???? COme on Anet.. lets do soemthing with titles a bit more USIL951 205.196.178.196 21:05, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Game updates

i think it would be usefull if they had a link in this panle that would read "The latest game update" and there would be a link to the game update page.

Signitures

When we update the weekly event, should we sign it? Just wondering because it is about the only update-able page we don't normally sign. KJZ 05:44, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

No need. We don't sign into articles usually, only in talk pages. Plus, the history records who edits what.--Fighterdoken 05:45, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

"I have a new key"

Perhaps this does not display to all users because some have bought all of the expansions/chapters/whatever? -- Tarun 00:42, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm thinking that tip disappears after the first time you manually add a new key to your account. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 00:45, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Hmh. I've manually added keys to my account before but I can still see this message. - anja talk 08:02, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Same here Anja, added a lot of keys manually, but I still get that message as well --User Tribina base.png (Tribina / talk) 10:52, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
That's strange indeed. I remember seeing it once before, when it first started appearing. After that, up till now, I'm not seeing it. And I've added keys both manually and via the store. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 00:35, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
But before you logged in, how would it know who you are to tell if you've added keys before? --Valshia 00:51, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
(Edit Conflict) Could it be then that you dont see it because you added Keys via the store? I do see this message too. It never disappeared for me since it was first added. I also added several Keys manually but none via the store. So it could be that it disappears when you buy something in the store? SilentStorm User SilentStorm MySig.png 00:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Nope, I've done that. Fully upgraded account (all releases), bought some from retails and some from the store. - anja talk 08:10, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Same here, bought EOTN in online store, bought character slots in online store, bought releases in retail stores.. I still get that message --User Tribina base.png (Tribina / talk) 14:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
(Feel free to fix formatting of this non-wiki editing user) I have bought each campaign myself in retail and did each one by adding the key manually, BUT at each point between each key, and beforehand I have never seen "I have a new key" hmm. Happy Photocopy The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.67.28.119 (talk • contribs) at 20:29, 11 June 2008 (UTC).
I have all 3 campaigns (but not EotN) and I don't remember ever having gotten this message, at least since I got Factions. I really can't remember if I had it back when I only had Prophecies. I did not buy any of the campaigns via the ingame store. Just thought this might help y'all figure out what's going on here. :P --User Vorith Shadow Ursan.jpg Vorith (talkcontribs) 15:41, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Maybe you guys are special. I have all expansions, some pre-order, some normal (factions) via real life stores and added to account before release in the case of nightfall (manual add 2 days before release) and lots of upgrades (mainly character slots). I haven't used any magazine keys (i live in australia, we don't get them here and it sucks - i want my minipets). I had the announcement for about a week or two, after that it vanished. My original key was from Australia, so is therefore part of the european server group (originally). how about you guys? usa or euro key? Veldrik 23:24, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

For me it show up in french but not in english. Lol. TulipVorlax 20:45, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

I just discovered that I have an unused key, according to NCSoft account management page, for the GWEN pre-order kit, even though it was credited to my account automaticly. KJZ 02:46, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Anomaly

can this be removed? from what I get, Tyria can both relate to the land in the prophecies campaign, and the world itself (I.E. tyira, cantha, and elona). so can we remove this? User-Wandering Traveler Sig.png Wandering Traveler 19:26, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes Tyria is the world and a place so yes we can. --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 19:30, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

I've heard it used before. I think there is one point on this wiki that it does....pretty sure. I'll look around, see if I can find some evidence. User-Wandering Traveler Sig.png Wandering Traveler 01:09, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
just found it. if you look at the Tyria Page, there is a disembauguation (hope I spelled that correctly...) of both Tyria the continent and Tyria the world. User-Wandering Traveler Sig.png Wandering Traveler 01:11, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
It was part of the old lore pages], probably before the conception of having different continents for different campaigns. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 02:47, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Change "unknown" to something else?

For the "I have a New Key" announcement, it says that this is "not displayed to all users for reasons unknown". I am pretty sure that this is only displayed for the first time it is run, or installed. Can someone verify this?--Gabeeshy 19:41, 21 March 2008 (UTC) PS. Whoops, screenblind me, there is a discussion above.

Yep there is ;) But as you should now know already the reasons for this IS unknown. And your guess is wrong. I still see it and I ran Guildwars more then a couple of thousand times ;) But one could indeed change it to for unknown reasons as it sounds better this way around then the current one ;) --SilentStorm User SilentStorm MySig.png 00:31, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

I agree; since we don't have any sources, I think we should still rephrase it. It sounds like we don't know a thing about why it is being displayed, even though we do(somewhat). I suggest: "Note: This message is not displayed to all users for unverified reasons". --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Gabeeshy (talk).

We DO know why its displayed. What you do NOT know exactly is why it doesn't appear for several people. --SilentStorm User SilentStorm MySig.png 17:21, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Saying "unverified reasons" isn't really much different from saying "unknown". Everything that's unknown has some unverified theory/answer/explanation behind them. Saying "unverified reasons" has an additional implication that might not be accurate - it indirectly implies that we're quite sure of the reason, just not 100% sure - which is not true. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 02:36, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

I guess you're all right. But every time I look at it, it doesn't seem right...--Gabeeshy 12:22, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Suggestions for making strong passwords

-Typical strong passwords accepted (and often enforced!) by the IT world might be 8 or more characters long, contain at least 1 CAPS letter, 1 lowercase letter, 1 number, and a special character such as "#" or "$". -Try not to use an easily-guessable password, such as making your favorite character's name your password. Using your account name as your password should definitely be considered a no-no as well. -Change your password on a regular basis--once every month or two, for example. Keep them account bandits guessing!

In the end, it's up to YOU to strike the balance between a hard-to-crack, but easy-to-remember password. 219.160.251.69 09:40, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Atsubill2

Clarifications for standard weekend event times?

I think that we potentially need somewhere that notes the standard start and end time for ANet weekend events. This weekend's key and chest event is a good example because it only states when the event ends - leaving the question open: when does it start? Pious Grallatorian 11:29, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

The usual times for weekend events is from 12p Pacific on Friday, until 11:59p Pacific on Sunday. So taking past events into consideration, that's probably the same time frame for this weekends event. - Raknor - Talk 11:39, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Maybe, for ease of reference, we should make a note of it. Pious Grallatorian 19:30, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

I see other announcements

I have changed this page with a reason, because I see the Arena Bonus Weekend and the Account Security announcement nad NOT the Player Account Safety announcement. I don't know what you guys see at the login screen, but for me this page doesn't reflect the actual situation. Balwin 08:47, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Triple key drops?

Hmm... I must be incredibly unlucky. I cleared three areas without seeing a single key/lockpick drop. Sigh. And I broke 7 out of 7 lockpicks. And the drops went from poor to worse as I proceeded through three areas. Is my account cursed?! </end rant> ;) -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 05:02, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

I think mine is cursed as well... working on survivor in EotN and doing the punchout tourny... Not a single lockpick... not to mention I lost survivor r.2 that weekend T-T... I FEEL YOUR PAIN MAN! >.> or woman... <.< yeah... Ackward moment for me, I'm done lol Needing Name 15:14, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
I Cleared two whole zone's worth of mobs in HM (1-man "party") and only got 2 lockpicks. Usually I'd get atleast 3 for that much time farmin' totally solo. ...For posterity's sake: just how many other drops did I get? -- 53 lumps of charcoal, atleast 100 scales, half a stack of wood & iron from salvaged weaps, and 3 plat in gold. Some guild mates were also complainin' that Keys didn't seem to be dropping any better than usual. I'd go ask Joe Kimmes if it's really working right but that way lies madness in the form of "the great Philisophical debate" over Random Number Generators which is exactly like discussing any kind of Lag or Driver bugs ...Nomatter what, the problem is always on YOUR end even if the problem gets secretly fixed later on... --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 21:50, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, it seems to happen in both dye and key weekends. What are the chances of getting a key? For me it goes more or less 1..6 keys every 5 areas. If each area has around 400 enemies, we get that the drop rate for me is around 0.001%. The triple of that is 0.003%... and that's not a big number either. So... increased drop for those items is pretty pointless at least when it comes to me. And dyes are way worse. Of course the overall effect may be greater, but single players are not likely to notice it. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 22:07, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Gold Buyers and Sellers Banned

Personally, I think it would have been best for them to ban the players after the Halloween event. That a way you get the people who were gonna buy gold for the Halloween event too. Now you have just instilled fear into all of them again. Unindal 13:54, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Just ban seller & buyer both. --Silverleaf User Silverleaf sig.pngDon't assume, ask! 14:04, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Game server maintenance 10/28/08

Will this take up an entire day or a span of few hours? Will this take away from the Halloween event or will we be given more time equal to the amount of time the game would be down? Laserblasto! 07:07, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

All chat spammers

Will ANet ever ACTUALLY ban them? They've been saying that they would for quite a while now and really all they've done is auto-filter everyone who starts their messages with WTS, WTB, Selling, or Buying to the Trade Channel. Are they actually going to suspend people or not? I'm tired of empty promises. --User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 02:44, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

If you put Help:Ask an account question on your watchlist, you notice that periodically we get people coming here either demanding to be unbanned because "they did not spam" or whine or complain that "they did not spam much" or "they didn't know they aren't supposed to spam". So yea, ANet does ban them. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 03:28, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, but I guess it's just so common for people to be trade spamming in all chat that they can't ban everyone who does it. Half the population of GW would be banned then. And if the people who "didn't know they weren't supposed" to spam should pay attention more. And yes, I have Help:Ask an account question watched, I guess I just don't look at it closely enough to notice all the whiners. --User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 04:44, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Archive

I think that for better orgnization, etc., we should start archiving these similar to how we archive the game updates; by month. Just so they are eaiser to find for whom ever needs to find them. I don't really like them all being on a single page. --Shadowphoenix Happy Halloween 15:40, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea. But is anyone willing to do it? --User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 01:27, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
I think every 6 months would be an acceptable time frame to archive. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 01:31, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes, they don't change often enough to be archived every time it happens, and the little weekend bonus events have become to commonplace that we can just have a page of those if there's not one already. --User Master Fast sig-icon.pngShinigami King 01:33, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
