Double Hero Battles rewards[edit]

"Hop into Hero Battles this weekend to earn double Balthazar faction and double commander title points. The double rewards will be offered from Noon Pacific (-8 GMT) on Friday, and last through Sunday at 11:59 PM Pacific (-8 GMT)." Well, there goes this month's AT. Unless ANet fixed their servers, one would think they had learned from their July mAT mistakes. Perhaps that was what the server maintanance was for yesterday. --TalkRiddle 12:27, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Epic Date Error[edit]

"To celebrate the fourth anniversary of Guild wars, we will be holding a special weekend event from Thursday, April 24th" Thursday is April 23rd, not 24th. I noticed this error is also in the ingame pane, is the event starting today(Thursday) or tomorrow(24th)? --Hawk SkeerAssassin Symbol(Talk) 13:52, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

"Yeah, we noticed that late last night too. The events should be starting tomorrow once the build to put up town art goes Live (as was originally announced). - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 18:40, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Special Treats Weekend 2009[edit]

"This holiday weekend, from Noon Pacific (-8 GMT) this Wednesday until 11:59 PM Pacific (-8 GMT) on Sunday, November 30, you will find Slices of Pumpkin Pie and Hard Apple Cider as random drops throughout all the lands of Tyria! "Sunday is the 29(I know, its my wife's bday) the 30th is Monday so when exactly does this event end?~~SynlesChyld --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.96.23.31 (talk).

It seems ArenaNet mistakenly used last year's Special Treats Weekend announcement (see this or this), so the event will most likely end on Sunday (November 29), which is when events usually end. --Silver Edge 20:49, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

There's a nice box on the front page listing zquest/traveler/pre-traveler, why not the login announcement for the upcoming weekend? Aro 03:12, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Updates, news and events (below Latest in-game activities) > News > Login announcements ? --NIN37 12:56, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Or you mean a dynamically generate text saying "this weekend event is <event title>"? (not sure how feasible that would be, cause it would require to have a fix amount of weekend events, and, AFAIK, there were weekends with no events and weekends with two simultaneous events). --NIN37 13:00, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

No login announcements window??[edit]

Is it just me or are there no announcements? Because I don't even have an announcement window in my login screen and I can't remember, if this has ever happend before. Balwin 18:09, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

OK, now I have an announcement pane again, but it contains ONLY the information about Wintersday in July and nothing else. So no information about Reset Your Character Display. Is this still up to date? Balwin 17:44, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
The only message I have is the wintersday one, but I've reset all of my character displays ('cuz they were UGLY), so I can't say for certain if that message is there conditionally or not. --Freedom Bound 17:45, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
I have "Wintersday in July", and "I have a new key". ~ PheNaxKian User PheNaxKian sig.jpg 17:49, 15 July 2009
Then I think the "Reset ..." is old news and should go to archive. And the issue with displaying the "new key" information or not is as old as the announcements :) Balwin 17:36, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I have no announcement window since the end of Wintersday in July. --Ralmon the Gen-- 17:10, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Please change your password today![edit]

I recommend against doing this. I just reset my password based on this announcement (even though I don't use my password for anything else and it's incredibly complex) and now I'm unable to log-in. I have the distinct feeling that I was hacked when I reset my password. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 16:22, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Yea, I was definitely hacked....Support is trying to stop it now. Awesome. It's amazing how you can go three years w/o getting hacked and then by using the NCSoft page get hacked. You're fuckin' kidding me KJ. I changed mine and can't log now. I just chalked it up to not remembering the 15 character password, using numbers, letters, and symbols. Aevar talk contribs 22:43, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, Aevar. Contact support quick so they can shut down your account. Same thing is happening to people on Guru too. :/ Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 22:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
After I logged in I wrote down a new password, changed it, and then tried logging in with the new pass. After that, neither the new or old passwords worked. I tried resetting the pass using the in-game option, but it said to reset via NCSoft master account. I didn't see my GW account in my profile, so I decided to try re-entering my both passes; still no luck. Well I waited 2 hours and tried the new one . . . and it worked! I'm not sure what happened, but maybe it has something to do with the sudden wave of password changes. SlitherSly 23:13, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry i meant my own personal experience of tonight's change of password, I tried and tried for about 10/20 minutes and then realised i had a typo after a bit of a panic!! T1Cybernetic User T1Cybernetic Glob of Ectoplasm.png 23:22, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps, this is just a theory, but perhaps, someone hacked NCSoft or ANet PW Change Database. MEaning that they are hacking your account BECAUSE you changed your password. Is this possible? What do you guys think? If my theory were correct it would mean that NOT changing your password would be the best thing to do right now. Because changing it would put it into the PW change database and you would become a target. Thoughts? opinions? Briar 23:32, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
I would doubt that. And suggesting it would probably only cause people to panic. Gaile is looking into this now (for me), and I know that several other people have reported this. Hopefully it's just an error or something. Or maybe, we're all idiots and just did something stupid. I'm not ignorant enough to dismiss human error :/ Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 23:34, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Yes guys, I agree. I strongly recommend changing your passwords immediately! One of our fellow Blade Staff DJ Members, DJ Kelli was hacked the other day and lost quite a big amount of her items that were donations for giveaway prizes, along with her own items. Together with NCSoft we were able to get her account back, so were are very lucky in that aspect. Please guys, I implore you, change your password frequently and to something that isn't just your pet's name. I recommend a password that is at least 8 characters long and has a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. We do not want this happening again to anyone else. -- My Talk Lacky 02:04, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Maybe your passwords aren't working because you failed to read the instructions. There's a cap of 13 alphanumeric characters, which means no symbols. --Macros 06:12, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

This was resolved, Karate Jesus's account wasn't hacked. He was using a password with more than 13 characters. --Silver Edge 06:20, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

For the sake of my paranoia can someone please confirm that anet isn't subversively locking random people out of their accounts? Is this a legitimate concern and am I safe to change my password? Legitimate proof, not just "lol ya do it" Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 1.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 21:30, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

I STRONGLY recommend that people beef up their current passwords; for both their Guild Wars account AND the NCSoft Master Account. People, DO IT. For your own sakes. I was one of the unlucky people that DID get hacked. The bastards somehow managed to gain entry into my NCSoft account (which, being only 13 characters long and not allowing symbols, is MUCH weaker than the passwords for your main Guild Wars account), and then they reset my Guild Wars password and proceeded to clean out my account of practically everything of value. I was asleep at the time, but some of my guildies were on and they were powerless to do anything but watch it happen. Then, to add insult to injury, the hackers used my account to spam ads for their gold services and got my account locked for gold-selling. :P

This happened a week ago, and I only just got my account back today. Fortunately my characters are still intact, so I haven't lost my titles or my progress, but my storage is practically EMPTY, half of my armors were destroyed when the hackers salvaged runes or insignias off of them, and a lot of work and effort I've put in over the past 4.5 years was basically wiped out in minutes.

Judging from posts on various fan sites, there's been quite an increase in the number of accounts being hacked in this manner over the last couple of months. The current most popular theory is that the hackers are using user lists from various GW fan forums and either obtaining their passwords from there, or simply brute-forcing the NCSoft accounts until they get in. (I personally think it's the latter. While I do use the same user name on several GW fan forums as the one for my NCSoft account, the passwords for the forums are completely different from the NCSoft account, which is again totally different from my main Guild Wars password.)

Be VERY careful, people. Strengthen up your passwords as soon as possible. I had some pretty complex passwords and used multiple passwords for different locations, and I STILL got hacked. I don't want to sound alarmist, but people have good reason to be afraid. Whoever these hackers are, they know what they're doing. - Zaxares 14:47, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

The red-ink Password Reminder Logon Message seems to have now gone - either the Admin guys are signaling that the panic is over or they think the message has got through. -- Bearz User Bearz pawprint.png 12:34, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Would changing your passwords help that much?[edit]

If your password is hard to crack, it won't be guessed. So the other ways to get to your account would be keylogging/sniffing, attacking your ncsoft account, or if you use the same passwords elsewhere. These methods would still work even if you have changed your passwords. And if you haven't removed the keylogging programs you would still be screwed.

So change your NCsoft and GW passwords if:

  • You have an easy to guess password.
  • You use the same password elsewhere.
  • Your computer has been compromised - e.g. malware or keyloggers (hardware/software). Deal with that and change the passwords ASAP.
  • You have logged in to GW using a computer that is suspect (cybercafe computer that may have keyloggers installed).
  • NCSoft/Anet have screwed up and caused their subscribers passwords to be leaked (either the GW passwords or the NCSoft passwords). Let's assume this hasn't happened, because if it has Anet/NCsoft should be announcing the problem (rather than covering it up).
  • The email account you use to communicate with Anet/NCSoft has been compromised.

Login screen announcements RSS feed?[edit]

Any chance we could get this page (or the login screen announcements themselves) set up as an RSS feed?

--Brokunn 04:43, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Currently I belive there is no way of getting the login announcements as an RSS feed unless someone copies them word for word into their own feed and then shares it. And as far as I know, nobody has done that... yet. PariahUser Pariah Pariahmoa.pngtalk 04:47, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Engrish-y typo and a link to NCSoft. Is it safe or will my account get hacked? Or could someone just post a synopsis of what they want to tell us. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 1.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 22:05, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Weird game update notice.[edit]

Recently I did a system restore back to Jan 31. Now I when I start GW, the login screen shows: January 28, 2010: Game updated! I find this weird because I have checked the dat file in the folder and the date is today. Also I ran the -image parameter and I didn't download any files. Sorry for advance if this is the wrong place to put this but it has to do with the login screen announcements. Batchie 20:41, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

You can try asking this at Help:Ask a game question. --Silver Edge 20:47, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Did you try -repair? --Silver Edge 20:49, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Tried -repair. Asked me to use install CDs, nothing changed with the dat file. Still has the same weird announcement. I'll use WikiHelp first. Otherwise I may have to reinstall GW again. No Biggie. Batchie 22:26, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Seems there's nothing to worry about. Sorry, I should of logged out and restarted GW to check if the login announcements were changed. I should of paid attention to the announcement date you noted, because I thought you were seeing the old game update announcement. --Silver Edge 23:24, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Consistency of events evident now[edit]

It seems that these occur every 3 months time (give or take a week) between previous occurrences of same events. I think its safe to say we can make a prediction chart with very high accuracy and certainty much like Zaishen quests and Pre-searing Nick.Yumiko ^,~ 19:49, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Canthan New Year[edit]

Today they added the new announcement:

Canthan New Year
On January 31st, at Noon Pacific (-8 GMT), Cantha begins a weeklong celebration with festive item drops and games in Shing Jea Boardwalk. It all culminates on February 6th with a feast for the celestial visitor, every three hours starting at 12:01 AM Pacific. For more information, visit www.guildwars.com.

I should add that they still haven't removed the previous Wintersday announcement and, as usual, the last relevant page on the official website is Canthan New Year 2012. Thank you, dear ArenaNet! --46.138.243.106 09:16, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

Apparently, Wiki administrators are in lethargy. Festivity is started already, but nothing is announced yet here and on the main page as well :( --109.252.98.32 20:11, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
well I automated the main page - and its working fine (see under Latest in-game activities -> This week). There isn't a big banner at the top because I haven't put anything together (unlike last year: File:User Chieftain Alex Main Page CNY.jpg, but I got one user saying he thought it looked too much like a wikia setup >.>).
the same automation also works on this page, it just needed a prod to update the page - you can "prod" the page to update by clicking on the clock (+ purging the wiki-cache)
also, the featured article has changed to be seasonal. -Chieftain Alex 20:20, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
Does this automation always work correct? Today is 25.01.2018, 1:15 UTC, I see the Canthan New Year announcement on the login screen in game, but nothing is in Wiki, both on the main page and here. Maybe some caches should be cleared or renewed? --109.252.107.71 01:15, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
Canthan New Year starts next week, so any automation will also make its appearance then. - Infinite - talk 09:43, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
If you mean the automation of the look of main page, which shows the current activities and events, then you are right, but for the article which is expected to inform about the events as soon as they are announced in the game, not right. If the game begins to announce the particular event, say, 7 days before its start date, the same logic should be in this article. (BTW, still no info here about Canthan New Year) --109.252.107.53 13:56, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
Ah, on that topic you are correct. I have just refreshed every cache via null edits, but it is indeed not appearing. It should though, the date is set as follows:
Canthan New Year start = 24.01.2024 20:00
But on another template it is set to 31.01, when the event actually starts. I am now going to try and change that to the 24 date and see what happens. - Infinite - talk 16:56, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
It shows up for me now, does it also show up for you? - Infinite - talk 17:05, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
Yes, it shows; sorry I missed the exact time when it happened, but it is here for several days. Now I am waiting for the main page, currently (31 Jan, 20:05) I already see CNY-related Rollerbeetle Racing, but I forgot whether the special decorations of the page should be too. Anyway, thanks for maintaining this Wiki! --109.252.107.59 20:06, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
