Talk:Lonely Vigil

I would argue the part about it being a fata morgana - in my view, the statue is standing upright and actually topples over as you approach it. The damn thing wobbles in the wind! --SnogratTrigsig.png 09:32, 8 April 2007 (EDT)

Its like every object in the desert, they all look different from a distance. Like the margonite buildings and stuff ~ KurdKurdsig.png18:55, 8 April 2007 (EDT)
Sure, not arguing with that - it's just that the article is implying that one's initial view of the statue (i.e. upright) is an optical illusion: it's not. --SnogratTrigsig.png 04:54, 9 April 2007 (EDT)
it is ~ KurdKurdsig.png05:11, 9 April 2007 (EDT)
Hehe, I'm not going to get into a lengthy argument about that, especially with a kindred spirit like you, Kurd :). It's just that in my point of view the statue actually does fall. As seen in the screenshots, the statue's left leg is seriously eroded making the entire structure unstable. The statue wobbles in the wind and, as the player approaches, it falls down. But, as I said, it's not important. Peace :) --SnogratTrigsig.png 05:26, 9 April 2007 (EDT)
I think they would have made a animation for it if it would fall, but not important ~ KurdKurdsig.png05:56, 9 April 2007 (EDT)
I always thought that it really DID fall down as well, and ANet was simply too lazy/not capable of making such an epic collapsing animation! That or I never saw it. I don't know why, but everytime I went there for some reason I'd look away and when I looked back, it was down. File:Esig2.jpg Eldin 15:25, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok three years late, but still. I do remember the statue having a fall down animation, but it only happened during the first few months after release of the game. After that, it simply toppled down. Why it was removed (or why we don't see it anymore) I don't know.151.193.220.28 15:25, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
I remember seeing it fall as well, and I did not start playing during the first three months. More like 3-5 months before Factions came out. I remember it well cause the first time I did the wisdom quest I crossed the bridge without realizing it was the statue, and was wondering where the statue went and I thought it was a mirage, but then when I came with my second character, well second to ascend (it was actually my first), I saw the thing crumbling down and I realized it was the bridge I had crossed before. It looks really kool and it happens sometime as you approach it. Don't know if it still does or not, or if this animation is only triggered when you have the wisdom quest, but it was made by A-Net.
PS. I know the discussion is old, but it's the first time I see it. - Firestorm10 19:08, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
I too remember seeing the statue fall, when I played the game when it first came out in 2005.
The other thing which has always confused me is, I think the statue has fallen the "wrong" way/orientation. Logically, she would have fallen front forwards, and this can be deduced based on how each of her legs are positioned (the one with the weakness/serious erosion vs the one which is more sturdy). But ingame, you see she has fallen the other way, cos her boobs are facing upward. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 218.186.9.11 (talk) at 01:31, 8 January 2012 (UTC).

Looks like Devona to me.--§ Eloc § 03:21, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

I always wondered who would bother to make giant statues (you can see parts of others elsewhere) of people wearing Knight's Armor in the Crystal Desert, especially since by all accounts the people living there were trying desperately just to survive...Hyper Cutter 17:28, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Maybe the Margonites?--§ Eloc § 19:39, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Srry, I think that was my fault. I forgot to remove it while putting in the guidelines.--§ Eloc § 16:05, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Ancient Weapon[edit]

Should there be a note about the Ancient Weapon and its planned functionality? Ctarl 13:12, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Added an anecdote behind this prop under the heading "Trivia". Maybe it should have been in a "Notes" section? Feel free to change the heading if it's warranted. --Matthew Medina 13:32, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Trivia is right; it's not about something that currently functions in the game. Backsword 13:35, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Name[edit]

Care to show where it was said the name is Lonely Vigil? Calor (t) 21:42, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

From the gw.dat apparently, the subject is going on at User talk:Emily Diehl. Although, I think the move was a bit quick - we still haven't had confirmation from Emily herself as to whether this is the actual name. -- Brains12Talk 21:45, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Changed it back, she says she cant comment on not-released content, so its defiantly not this ~ SCobraUser-SuperCobra-Sig.png 20:08, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but how does "can't comment"=incorrect information? Lonely Vigil is the closest thing to an official name we'll get, and "Statue of Female Warrior" itself is just a fan-made name. --Santax (talk · contribs) 20:14, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Cause she says things that are not released, this is released, so its not this.If you can come up with a better name, let me hear ~ SCobraUser-SuperCobra-Sig.png 20:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
You could argue that the name "Lonely Vigil" itself was never used and therefore "released", although tbh even if it isn't official, it is still a better name than "Statue of Female Warrior". --Santax (talk · contribs) 20:21, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
It's a better name if it's true. We don't know if it's true. If Emily says "Yes, that statue is Lonely Vigil, and the backstory was never added in the game", then by all means, move the article to Lonely Vigil. But she hasn't said that. Yet. Calor (t) 20:35, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
For all we know they may change their minds and make it a statue of the great Gaile Gray, who fought an epic battle against evil hundreds of years ago :P -- File:User Clantron sig.gif Clantron 20:42, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Isn't Gaile a Ranger as proffesion? :p then they would have to change the artwork :P DBZVelena | (Talk page) User DBZVelena sig.jpg 05:34, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
I gave it this name cause it was listed so on this image ~ KurdUser Kurd sig.png 10:53, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Might I add that the map in question is a fan-made map?Moo 23:19, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

*bringing back old discussion* We have many other landmark names coming from the gw.dat (all of which would be found in Nightfall), so why not use the gw.dat's name for this? Either way would be "unofficial" so it wouldn't matter much. -- Konig/talk 08:00, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

Lol...[edit]

Sometime I might put up the screenie I took while I was between her boobs. I was searching for sarris yassith or something. Ninjas In The Sky 10:17, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

If I remember correctly, that's the only way you can get to Siliss Yassith. You can't "climb" her boobs. Boogy User Boogy Sig.jpg (Talk/Contributions) 10:23, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
When you walk over her, you HAVE to go through her boobs. Not climb on top of them. If I could do that I'd do /jump or /sit. Ninjas In The Sky 06:54, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Guild Wars 2 tag is wrong[edit]

There isn’t any such page. Perhaps there should be, but it should just be a redirect to the page called Fallen Giant. Cynique (talk) 04:57, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Fixed. Thanks. If you want to, you can fix such links yourself, no need to go thru the talk page. :) Cheers, Steve1 (talk) 06:10, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
There is a PoI in GW2 called "Lonely Vigil", it just hasn't had a page on GW2W created for it yet. --Santax (talk · contribs) 13:13, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
