which has caused some to redo the explorable area to see him for their gifts
What? Can someone please rephrase this to make sense? I'm not sure what this is trying to say... Rose Of Kali 13:11, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- I could rephrase it to make sense if I knew what it meant in the first place...What I draw from it is that due to Nick facing terrain, people rezone to go back him for their gifts? *confuzzled* ~Celestia 13:38, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- It comes from the old bug note that had nick facing rock walls and Anet would then move him or do other such... the bug of him facing the wrong way never caused him not to give gifts... it did cause players to hunt for him again after zoning... MrPaladin † talk 13:46, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

- My point, partly. ^_^ Currently that note doesn't make any sense with whatever it is trying to say. Are people going back for seconds because he's facing the wrong way? Or does he not give gifts because of it? Or what? So far Anet only changed him once from that rock in Vabbi, which didn't affect his collection for that week. And the Asura area reset blunder had nothing to do with him facing anything. Anyway, I'm gonna remove that part until someone can rephrase it into something that actually makes sense and is accurate. Rose Of Kali 14:34, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- Pretty sure what she meant was that new builds were offered to fix Nick's location and/or facing direction. -- FreedomBound 15:35, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Facing the music about facing the walls etc
I think everyone agrees that Nick sometimes faces a wall or inanimate object of some sort. We haven't yet come to consensus on why this happens or how we should note this behavior in the article. Clearly, some of these about-faces were errors by ANet (since ANet changed his orientation in a subsequent build). Some peeps think that 1-2 of these situations was intended by ANet (e.g. when his monologue described the feature that he might have been looking at).
So, I propose that we simply note the fact that he doesn't always face the direction from which the party is likely to arrive; that is sufficient for the average player. On the talk page, we can continue speculating whether this is a bug, an anomaly, or intentional; we can expect a more definitive answer if/when Nicholas returns to a previous location/item-request. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:56, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- I totally agree with you. For example this week it is very likely he is facing the way of the river on purpose.--Wysth 17:08, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- This week he's talking about a waterfall, so it only makes sense for him to be facing one (which he is). There has only been one true error so far, where he was in the wrong spot to begin with, all others are people just being nit-picky. --Curse You(talk|contribs) 18:39, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed. Also, I don't see a problem with it being a note on the main page. -- riyen ♥ 18:43, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
(Reset indent) Here's the more neutral text I would propose: "The Traveler does not always face the direction from which the party is likely to arrive." This removes the implied speculation(s) and covers all his appearances to date. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:03, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- What about a simple "Sometimes, Nicholas is facing a wall."? poke | talk 19:31, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- What about a simple " " (that's a blank space). It was a bug, they fixed it, let's move on. We don't generally document fixed bugs, and I really don't think we need to in this case, since he moves every week anyway. -- FreedomBound 20:07, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- Then explain why he faced an obstacle landscape, aka the hill, last week? It happened not only to me, but I saw a few in alliance complain. Had to redo it a couple of times. I don't think it's a bug, but just something that happens. I'm for Tennessee Ernie Ford's version that would help. -- riyen ♥ 20:10, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Fore-Knowledge
Running around in game this week i notice someone saying that destroyer cores are next weeks items. I see alot of this sorta thing happening. People claiming fore-knowledge of the next weeks items. Where do they attain this knowledge and is it viable? 76.20.33.106 07:49, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well, were they right in the past? poke | talk 08:06, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- You will probably ear them saying that X items is next week traveler's item. Trying to artificialy raise the value of that item. And then you will ear their mule account saying WTS X items for xxxxGold. For now none but Anet knows what's next week item. M3G 08:21, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- The only foreknowledge that I know being actual fact happened due to a glitch and someone saw nick in the crystal overlook one week prior to when he was ment to be there... asside from that its probably people running a scam to try to inflate the price of something otherwise rarly used and worthless... take a quick look at history and we see that nick rarly collects items that are mainstream... I doubt destroyer cores or sup charr carvings are going to be nick items. MrPaladin † talk 13:38, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Quests that change spawns in area
Should we take this to a generic comment that "if you have active quests that change spawns in the area nick will not appear until you abandon or complete that quest and rezone"... every few weeks we find some quests that change the spawns and cause nick not to spawn only next week to remove the comment and find another... - nah guardian moss has a lower chance to drop than ectos i'm betting. easier to just farm ecto and sell them then buy the gifts --adrin 23:52, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
- I've had better luck this week in Hard mode (usually, trophies seem to drop more frequently in NM). Try just the 3 Guardians outside Boreas and don't bother with the Wallows unless the healers drop something valuable. Repeating that short run over 30 minutes a couple of times, I've always found at least 3 moss and as many as 7. Since I generally am unlucky with lockpicks, boss drops, and VQ drops, I suspect that other players will do better. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:13, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

I do a contest in my alliance.
I have people guess where Nicholas is going to show up the next week. I offer them a 10k Prize if they get the Place and a 50k Bonus if they get the item.
Prophecies: Old Ascalon, Kryta, Maguuma Jungle, Northern Shiverpeaks, Southern Shiverpeaks, Desert, Ring of Fire Factions: Factions Island, Factions City, Echovald Forest, Jade Sea Nightfall: Istan, Kourna, Desolation, Vabbi Eotn: Norn, Vanguard, Asura RULES: 1. If there is not a winner the money will be carried over to the next week. 2. Please Number the posts. 3. And please include your primary In Game Name. 4. Duplicate answers are accepted, but prize will be split between winners.
I am looking for any suggestions on how to improve on this contest.

- Holy crap they're overcompensating for the easy earlier farms. Don't think many will get the full number this time. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 213.112.198.130 (talk).
- These I don't find half as bad as the ones last week, drop rate is ok, killing them isn't too bad, the only really annoying thing is reaching them. Helps to have Seeking Brother Tosai quest active and leaving from Wajun Bazaar, that way no fighting on the way to the Undercity and just 2-3 small Am Fah Groups on the way to the Kappa.--SunJinyu 21:08, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
- Ok,I'm not really complaining but seeing how hard to farm these is, I spent a considerable part of my day thinking up concise ways to express just how frustratingly hard it can really get. So, here we go in order of succcess (imo):
- 1) I just barely managed to get 15 of these after 3 straight hours of farming and 25 runs (roughly one per run sometimes none at all).
- 2) At one point, my despair was so great I went around in neighboring outposts offering to trade 50 putrid cysts for 1 Ancient Kappa Shell (which is probably the analogy of the amount of said items you'll end up with).
- 3) And finally if all this is not enough for you consider the following:
- Gwen and Pyre have a greater chance of making out, having children and raising them according to the tennets of the Mursaat/Titans religion than you getting an Ancient Kappa Shell in the Undercity this week!
- Suffice it to say that I made 10k just from selling all the random ~30g clutter I got on all the runs...Seasons Greetings to all of you :D Nefeli of Mirrors 18:17, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- 10k isn't too shabby. I'm going start farming tonight and I haven't been in the UC in a while, but I wouldn't think it would be all that bad. No hex or enchantment removal, no self heals, no interrupts, do all cold damage, and iirc there are plenty of them. Then find the quickest way to get to them and I figure a decent solo build should net a good amount of shells per run unless the drop rate sucks or just get unlucky. — Gares 18:53, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, Gwen and Pyre would've been a great romance. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 21:19, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

- What sucked about this wasn't the Kappa or the drop rate, but the getting there part. You have to run through a hoard of afflicted with a boss to get to the Kappa, then after you kill a couple dozen Kappa and watch the rest die while fighting random afflicted and Am Fah before you reach them (thus no drop for you), there is no convenient rezone portal, so you have to map back to town and run all the way there again, and again, and again... <_< This was one of the more boring/annoying/time consuming Nick farms so far. Mursaat Tokens was another bad one. Rose Of Kali 23:38, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- If you have the Seek out Brother Tosai quest the you can head south-west out of The Marketplace into Wajjun Bazaar to the entrance of The Undercity there, you don't have to fight anyone on the way to The Undercity. Then once inside head south and then east past Chung, the Attuned and down a slope and head north, you can get to the Kappa groups, only having to face one group Am Fah. Also, to easily rezone, just suicide into a nearby group of afflicted and you should ressurect at the southwest shrine where you came in, and then you can just rezone there and repeat the journey to the Kappa. - And if I don't? That's quite a run, regardless. I was zoning in from the nearest outpost (Vizunah local). Rose Of Kali 00:23, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
- Why dont you try from Nahpui Quarter? No figths at all Anna81 08:06, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
- Do following:
- (1) Take a full human party(6 or 8) and start at Vizunah Square (Local), fight through afflicted and you are at location. Wipe them, Kappa! Repeat till you get 15 items or blue in face. (600 not working here)
- (2) Take a 600/smiter, {you can take just party, but it takes longer, take (1)} (can take guildies/friends as leechers as filler for rest of party) and fight from Nahpui Quarter through Am Fah and enter UC. In there, you take right and then proceed to location. Few Am Fah to fight on the way there. After you finished, return to Wajjun Bazaar portal from UC and then re-enter back to UC without fighting Am Fah in Wajjun Bazaar. Repeat all route to location. Repeat. - It works just fine with a 3-hero Discord team from local Vizunah. 4-man party means more drops for you (you don't care if the other 3 are heroes or people, you still don't get their share). Took me about 2 hours to get the 15 shells. Rose Of Kali 18:04, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
- However with other people, if they get any extras you might be able to buy them from them. personn5 18:34, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
- If you have trouble killing the mobs prior to the Kappa, you can bring a full team of heroes and henchmen, and just flag all of them or just the henchmen a compass range away when you get to the Kappa so they don't get any of the drops. --Silver Edge 06:17, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
- Just go as shockwave/sliver ele, the Am Fah are a joke just avoid that necro boss once you get in undercity (if you enter from marketplace side as I do). Got all 15 in 4 runs doing it solo, quick and easy. Not to mention a few celestial drops from my kappa friends. Nay the One and Only 07:22, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
