Rewards[edit]

The update notes state that the reward for this will, at least in part, be used towards the Sunspear and Lightbringer titles. 24.188.207.20 06:23, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

The chart states an amount of "reputation points"... rep points for what, though? 24.188.207.20 18:25, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Watching that table getting modified throughout the day is actually pretty interesting. I cant wait to get home and go through one regardless of what the reward is. Tahl 18:43, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

They should let us be able to turn this book in even at rank 8 Sunspear. All my characters have rank 8 by the time they've completed Nightfall. Xerxez 07:01, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

I agree, at least for Sunpear rank. Increase cutoff to rank 9. I easily got to rank 8 without completing half of the book. Rok Mon 12:27, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Rok Mon

Bug???[edit]

Capitain Ahkenchu gives the normal book too. I have optained it a few minutes ago... No bug, I think... |Cyan LightUser Cyan Light SB.jpgHere!| 09:10, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Maybe it only works below rank 8. You can't obtain Sunspear bounties in normal mode once you reach rank 8, and GW:EN normal mode books can't be turned in after rank 8. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 09:19, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Heyas, i don't think it's only rank related because the toon i used was over r8 sunspear, and the NPC who has the same role in Chantry is not having this issue (using the same toon); linked to the place ? Davor Belegnaur 09:34, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Well I have both titles maxed and I cannot get the Normal books on my main char but I can get them with another char who hasn't maxed those titles, so I think Gordon Ecker is right. Captain Ahkenchu [Sunspear Signalman] probably does not give the Normal book once you've reached a certain rank in Sunspear Title Track and Source of Whispers [Lightbringer Scrivener] probably does not give the Normal book once you've reached a certain rank in the Lightbringer Title Track. Qaletaqa 09:43, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Here are 2 pics of what i experienced : in Sunspear Great Hall, before the NPC and before the NPC in Chantry, my apologizes if it's something normal and known Davor Belegnaur 09:53, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
The NPC in Chantry does Lightbringer, not Sunspear. It's the same way in EotN: If you're rank 9 Vanguard and rank 6 Asura, you can't get an NM book from the Vanguard guy, even though you still can from the Asura guy. - Tanetris 11:59, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I have r8 in Sunspear and cannot get the HM book. Do you have to complete the game BEFORE they will give you the HM one? I am really not even close to finishing Nightfall. I was hoping I could just get it and keep it with me so I don't forget to get it later. Chris 69.54.220.18 13:10, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Since you can't play in HM until at least one character has beaten the campaign, it's likely that you can't get the HM book until you are able to fill it out. Yukiko User Yukiko Sig.png 02:34, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Annoying ... I want my NM book just to read, and I can't get it because I've maxed Sunspear title? :( ~ Twisties34
It would be really nice to still be able to get NM books despite having r8 SS or r5 LB for us Cartographers. Having to do a number of the missions over again to get the title, and doing it in NM, it would be nice to make some gold with a book at the same time. Sardaukar 17:29, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Worth it??[edit]

It seems a bit of a silly question, but is this faster than other methods of LB farming? Briareus 04:11, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Surely not, and it's a real slow way to obtain gold - even for non-farmers. That and the fact they don't count the achievements from before the update make them nothing but the smallest piece of flavor. Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 01:00, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Worth only when doing campaign for the 1st time, ss/lb farm are much faster. Gunm 18:06, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Spelling errors[edit]

Are all those spelling errors in the actual books? I want to go in and correct them, but if they are in game, we're supposed to leave them. If they are in game, did ArenaNet not spend 2 minutes reviewing these things? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:170.167.4.210 (talk).

If anyone can confirm a spelling error exists in-game, please add a {{sic}} tag to the relevant paragraph. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 02:24, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Bug?[edit]

If you do not have the book in your inventory when completing a mission, you may ask the Sunspear Signalman or the Lightbringer Scrivener to fill in the page for 100 gold.

Is it a bug or why won't they give me that page? i completed a mission and didn't have that book with me then i went to that sunspear guy but he did not want to sell me a page... --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:84.142.105.140 (talk).

Did you complete the mission before or after the update which added the books? If it was after the update, it's a bug, if it was before the update, it's confirmed to be intentional. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 00:55, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

it was after the update i did the mission without having the book in my inventory and then took the book again out of my storage and went to the npcs but nothing happened --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:84.142.64.1 (talk).

Which mission? What are your Sunspear and Lightbringer ranks? The first three missions aren't coveed by the book, the Sunspear Signalman probably won't fill out pages after rank 8 and the Lightbringer Scrivener probably won't fill out pages after rank 5. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 02:30, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

oooh there is my mistake ^^" i did the first mission ok thanks gordon --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:84.142.52.120 (talk).

Repeated Text?[edit]

I don't know if anyone else noticed but the text for the 4th and 5th recorded missions are the same. Is this a bug or did someone just make an error when transferring to the WIKI? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.146.24.169 (talk).

Only the first two and a half sentences are identical, which makes sense, as the missions take place right after a fork in the storyline. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 05:03, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Wont fill in my page[edit]

I just picked up my copy of Night Falls from the Source of Whispers or whatever he was called and asked him to fill in my pages and he filled in 4 of them although I have clearly progressed far enough in the storyline to have pages 1-12 filled in (appart from 9 because of the story split). Where can I go to get my missing pages? Dante Broekhart 10:33, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Just looked all around Nightfalls for someone to give me the pages and no-one will fill in the pages... I have only had nightfalls for a month so I did all the missions definatly post book update. Master/Bonus all the first 10 or so missions but when I picked up the book and asked it to be filled in they only gave me missions 8, 10-12. I don't really know why just these 4 have been given credit. Really annoying though... Dante Broekhart 14:45, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Are you counting the first three missions (Chahbek Village, Jokanur Diggings and Blacktide Den)? They don't have pages in Night Falls, instead, they're covered by the Hard Mode Young Heroes of Tyria book. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 03:40, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
No, because I have got as far as Gate of Desolation. So I am missing credit in my book for Consulate Docks, Venta Cemetery, Kodonur Crossroads, Rilohn Refuge, Pogahn Passage, Moddok Crevice and Tihark Orchard. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Dante Broekhart (talk).
Did you complete those missions in hard mode? It's possible that completing a mission in hard mode doesn't provide credit for normal mode books, I know it doesn't provide credit for the Protector titles. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 04:35, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Have not yet completed Night Falls so can't be in Hard Mode yet. Dante Broekhart 09:32, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
I am having the same issue. I am completed the entire campaign and have 4 missing pages (1,5,9 and 11), and neither NPC will fill it in. I did try redoing the missions with the book in my inventory, and they still did not fill in. I am not above the rank level for turning them in either. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:76.14.39.250 (talk).
From the report above and my own experiences it would seem there is a time limit to buy missing pages, not sure about it not filling in pages for the IP. --User Tenri My image.jpg Tenri 00:16, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
The notes section on the page states you have one month from the last time you did a mission within the campaign to get credit. This comes with official Arenanet backing, so it should be legit. SarielV 20 x 20px 05:06, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Not sure if this is related to above, but I just did Dasha Vestibule in NM and forgot my book. The book guy in the Sunspear GH didn't offer to fill it, but the guy in Chantry of Secrets did (this was within a day of doing the mission). Will each NPC only fill in certain pages? BladeDVD 01:27, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
You probably have hit the NM limit for sunspear (Great Hall), but not yet for LB (Chantry).  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:23, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
That is correct, I had r8 SS but only r3 or 4 LB. Are you saying the Great Hall NPC won't fill in NM book pages if your SS level is at 8 and that the Chantry NPC does the same at LB r5? Maybe the notes should be updated to reflect this? I almost redid Dasha but checked the Chantry NPC before just in case. BladeDVD 11:07, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
You can't turn in a NM book once you reach the NM cap, so it seems consistent to me that the NPC won't fill out missing pages, either. This is the same for EotN storybooks, too: the Norn NPC stops looking at your NM books after you reach r8 for Norns.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:06, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
I agree it seems consistent, but it's not obvious and I think it would be a good note to add to the bullet points about restrictions on filling pages in the notes section if it can be confirmed that this is how it works. BladeDVD 07:50, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
That is how it works. Do you want to add the note? (It should probably be placed on Hero's Handbook and Master Dungeon Guide; the 4 NPCs won't fill in missing pages for the NM book after you max their respective reputations.)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:06, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
Done and done. Hope the wording is ok. BladeDVD 10:31, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Useless at high rank?[edit]

I neglected to turn mine in prior to obtaining rank 5 Lightbringer (I've been rank 8 Sunspear since a month after Nightfall's release), thinking that since the Whispers Informants were still giving my wife (already rank 5) the bounty in normal mode, the books were probably still redeemable. I was wrong. Is there anything to do with this book now besides trash it? --RoyHarmon 19:22, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Look at the pretty pictures? In other words, nope. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 19:23, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
I think putting the normal mode cap of Lightbringer rank at 5 was a poor design decision. It has just happened to me for the third time that I reached nearly level 6 before even getting to Abbadon's Gate mission in normal mode; I have made no attempt to farm lightbringer points, but I have done all the quests along the way and tried to get bounties whenever I was on quests. Each time I forget the cap is when I reach 5 and think it's 6. I think most players should be at level 5 or above through normal play after filling the book, without farming for points, which makes it easy for the book to be useless. ChengtheAccuser 06:10, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
Sunspear and Lightbringer rank both have a normal mode cap of 7,500 points. I was able to completely fill 2 Night Falls normal mode books on several characters and at the same time completing all the associated Nightfall Zaishen Mission quests (took 2 quest cycles since I had to fill 2 books) and turned 1 in for Sunspear points and the other for Lightbringer points right before reaching either normal mode caps. As the Notes section of the Lightbringer rank page suggests: "Consider waiting until your character is rank 5 and for a "Double Sunspear & Lightbringer Points" Weekend event before turning in secondary quests that reward Lightbringer points." --Silver Edge 19:16, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Multiple copies of the book?[edit]

I just noticed that if you have a copy of this book in your storage you can ask the Sunspear Signalman or the Source of Whispers for another one and have more than one copy at a time in your inventory. Is it possible to get multiple books filled out at once for 1 mission if you do this?

I'm not sure, but if every storybook functions like the Hero's Handbook (see the second bullet in the Notes section), the answer is no. --Silver Edge 04:03, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
You can have multiple books, but you can only get credit in one of them when you complete a mission. I'm pretty sure that's standard for all the books. -- Hong 02:41, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
I'm also pretty sure that it goes in the first book in your inventory, regardless if it's already been completed in that book. So change up the order if you carry multiples around. --Axis 01:33, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes: you can have dozens of books in your inventory, but only one will get filled at a time (whether by NPC or when completing the mish). The game only checks the the top-left-most book; the NPC only fills in an entry 'if you had no books with you during the mish (or dungeon); if you had a book with that mish already filled in, you are, alas, out of luck. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 05:26, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
