Copyvio image?

Hey Indochine, I was looking through the gallery of new files and found this image, it appears to come from http://www.flying-steps.de and from what I can make out from the disclaimer it doesn't appear to have been released under GFDL but since I'm not completely sure if it is GFDL or another compatible license I thought I'd ask you. --Kakarot 15:45, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey Kakarot. I don't speak German, but the Google translation gives me this: "The author is, in all publications copyrights of the images, graphics, sounds and texts." (Der Autor ist bestrebt, in allen Publikationen die Urheberrechte der verwendeten Bilder, Grafiken, Tondokumente, Videosequenzen und Texte zu beachten.) Strictly speaking, I suppose they should be there. However, I've never seen it done as if it's going to redirect they won't be seen. I removed them as the redirect has to be on the first line of the summary, otherwise it won't work. On another note, your sig is fine. Tyria map deleted pre-maturely

Hi, I noticed that you have deleted "Image:Tyria map thumb.jpg" before discussion of the deletion had been completed. I had posted (or thought I did) the reason why I thought the map was not redundant. i.e. it is a thumbnail of a higher-resolution map of Tyria which includes all the outposts and towns listed. The current map of Tyria is a fully explored map with nothing marked. Can you restore the file until the discussion is completed please? Thanks. Luke1138 03:03, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Hey. Sorry for the slow reply - I've been away. Anyway I must apologise for deleting that image - I didn't notice the talk page when deleting. As far as I am aware - restoring an image does not work. However, looking at the high-res image and similar images I noticed that they effectively contain an advert for you - promoting your GW character. The images were tagged as Rockstar images, if I remember correctly. However, I searched on the internet and could not find any evidence that they were released under the GFDL. These images are renders of my own creations for a game, these are unique and are not available anywhere else and also not without my own permission due to the fact that i made it myself, the game is in development and i cant tell you more about this.

Also who tagged the images as "rockstar" images? the person who did that should get a warning because they are not rockstar images.

Also #2, you should do your research before you delete stuff from other players just because you cant find any copyrights or licenses about it.

now that i think about it, wikiGW has been bitching about images allot lately, there was also some dude who wanted me to delete my whole page because it was too large, where is the friggin line here, be real.

You may upload the images, as long as the game is released under the GFDL. I am concerned about this: "[the images] are not available anywhere else and also not without my own permission." The GFDL is a 'free' licence, so any images uploaded under that licence can be used freely by others - from this statement it suggests you don't want this to happen. Strictly speaking it should - but a sysop who is not aware of the situation with this image may not realise this and delete the whole lot (old and new revisions) if the delete tag was still there. A couple of questions about Policy

Good evening! As the title suggests, I just wanna ask a quick couple of questions about GWW's Policy. Firstly, whilst I'm not allowed to edit other's text (on talk pages), am I allowed to change it to include links. For instance, if someone's asked... I dunno... "What build works well with *skill*?" and the reply is a meaty list of potential combinations, am I allowed to link up those skills to make it more new-guy-friendly? GFDL compatible

Hey Indo (or anyone else watching this page), I was wondering if any of the gold coin images shown on this page under the My Screens section would be compatible with GFDL since it is done in the game or would still fall under copyvio; possibly derivative work? The main ones being Pikachu, Kirby, Link, Sonic and Yoshi at the time of this message. My guess would be they would still be copyvio material since they are images of copyrighted characters, similar in concept to how hand drawn images of said characters are deleted for their derivativeness but am not 1000% 100% sure. --Kakarot 11:03, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

The relevant piece of legislation says that images 'based upon one or more preexisting works' are derivative works and it's clear that these images have been based on another work. But what we need to decide is whether these new works display enough originality of their own to warrant independent copyright protection.
