My new Dervish build[edit]

I am posting a dervish build that I put together since the new dervish update. My goal is a maximum PBAoE build for PvE, relying on heroes for heal.

Scythe Mastery: 10 + 1 + 2

Earth Prayers: 11

Mysticism: 10 + 2

Max scythe with zealous mod.

I would like anybody to critique this build and offer suggestions/improvements. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 01:46, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Substitude Whirlwind Attack for Eremite's Attack and pick up Eternal Aura. There's absobloodylutely no excuse for not having resurrection. You could drop Chilling Victory for that - it's damage isn't that splashy anyway. 88.153.105.75 02:32, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

How is that not relevant?[edit]

That was a big, well known 3rd party GW tool for adding textures, and the first thing I thought when they introduced high rez in game was that. The developers know about it too. If anything, it serves as trivia since it's basically the same thing but natively now. Previously Unsigned 00:10, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

It just has nothing to do with the update. Trivia just doesn't belong in the wiki notes. The wiki notes are meant to clarify certain aspects of the actual update, not to provide trivial information. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 00:13, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Isn't there an exception made for April Fool's Updates? Previously Unsigned 00:24, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Perhaps there was, but this isn't April Fool's. :P --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 00:34, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Hard Mode Quests[edit]

moved from Feedback talk:John Stumme#Hard Mode Quests
Hard Mode Quests=Quests that can only be accepted and done while in Hard Mode. The difference between the normal quest done in HM and the HM quest is that the difficulty is vastly changed - HM versions of the normal quests is just your typical HM buffs to enemies, while the HM quest version is a rework of the quest done for increased difficulty (altered mob spawns, for instance). HM quests are only available after completing the normal version of the quest. -- Konig/talk 00:04, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
In layman's terms, it's a new version of the quest available after completing the original version which is designed to cut off the QQ of the godmoders. -- Konig/talk 00:06, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Ok, I'm still confused. I did Villainy of Galrath years ago when I first started playing. Today, I accepted the quest again while in NM; there was no HM requirement. And now that I have the quest, there still seems to be no HM requirement. I could go out and complete it on NM all over again. Please clarify. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 00:08, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Although the quest doesn't specifically say so, the new version can only be completed in Hard Mode - Galrath doesn't spawn in NM for the new quest. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 00:24, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
The only answers I could think of would be 1) You didn't complete it on that particular character before or 2) they reset having to do the quest (which I don't see as reasonable to assume). -- Konig/talk 00:28, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
On the update page, a couple of users reported that if you go out there in NM, none of the spawns are there. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 00:34, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
I definitely have the new version of the quest in my log: 30k xp and 5k gold reward. But I didn't have to be on HM to get it and it seems I can still do it on NM. I will test what Freedom just reported. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 00:37, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Might have been altered from when the TK was testing it, I guess. -- Konig/talk 00:41, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
You can get it in normal mode but can only do it in hard mode as far as i have seen. Damysticreaper 00:42, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed. You can get the quest in NM, but if you don't do the quest in HM it won't be completed. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 01:27, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
will more be added? or are they there and we just have to find them all? Getefix 13:41, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
This is the first of <some number> of quests. The rest have not been added yet. On another note, it IS pretty challenging. First off, enemies are 10 levels above your party, don't have defined groups (as in, aggroing one aggroes about 20 more), and the builds are pretty effective (Specially those 3 or 4 monks that keep infusing among them). I'm up for a retry now... --talk Large 13:48, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
//"3 or 4 monks that keep infusing among them"//That's horrible. I'd complain if I could be bothered to play. --Boro 10px‎ 20:04, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
They are called "hard mode quests", not "skipping through the fields picking daisies quests". These quests were ment for the bored super leet players who needed something to do after running up the shiverpeaks all four ways while carrying Jora on their backs. If you can't handle them, don't complain, just don't do them. Then again, you seem to be a master of complaining about things but not doing anything. Katherinezoltin 20:31, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Bloating numbers doesn't qualify as challenge. Combined with "balanced builds", it only serves to prevent any ideas of speccing. It just forces you to use the same old AI exploitation techniques to win. 24.197.253.243 20:40, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Despite popular belief, merely having balanced builds with AI doesn't constitute as challenging either - they're only good fighting against gimmicks, against another balanced team (even a weaker one in terms of numbers) they're not that strong. Either case, it comes down to exploiting AI to take them down the easiest. This quest and future quests is to make the easiest route harder, I believe, which without AI updates means making every other possible attempt even harder. -- Konig/talk 21:13, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Manual list of current suggestions[edit]

As promised, here's a manual version of your list. On Feedback:User/Musha, comment out the {{feedback user suggestions}}, until the #DPL issue is resolved, and replace it with the list below. (If all goes well, you can just undo the edit whenever this gets fixed.)

Talk page redirects[edit]

You have setup redirects for most (all?) of your sub-talk pages to head back to your main page. This makes a lot of sense (although I think I prefer my talk pages to be separated, to keep the context with the comment).

However, I think this is probably an issue for Feedback talk: the licensing is different. I am not sure if current policy addresses whether you are allowed to redirect Feedback talk:User/Musha to this page, but I recommend that you instead redirect all your suggestion talk pages to your main Feedback talk page; that will leave you with two (instead of one): manageable, but preventing a problem due to licensing. (For example, ANet employees are going to have a problem if they want to make use of ideas/suggestions that are in talk but never make it to the feedback article.)

Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:24, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Ah yes. Good call. I hadn't thought of that. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 06:34, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Two Sai Ling Priests are involved in a Winds of Change encounter[edit]

When I saw that edit summary, I went looking for the punchline...(Two Sai Ling priests enter a Winds of Change encounter... the first says to the bartender...)Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:51, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

lmao. And the bartender says.. "Where's your boat?" I know, not funny. But somebody had to finish that. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 04:01, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Request for reference[edit]

[1] Where/when did Linsey say this? I'd like to know as it could settle a particular debate. Konig/talk 23:14, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Try as I might I can't find this reference. I've tried to find this reference in the past, as well, but nothing to show for it. I've read so many posts and so many articles since April 2010 I just can't remember where it was. I can't even remember the context it was in, as that would help me narrow down my search. All I can say is that I do remember reading that Zinn's Trial was part of GWB. More specifically, that it was part of the WiK portion of GWB. After all, you can't complete WiK without completing the trial. My apologies that I am unable to backup my claim with proof. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 05:44, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Hmmm, I seem to have misread/misunderstood something as I was under the impression you were referring to Zinn's Task, rather than Trial of Zinn - the former is the one in "question" (and is what Falconeye is referring to in what he added - or rather, he's referring to Task/Trial combo). Konig/talk 05:58, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah. I do not believe Zinn's Task to belong to any part of GWB. It is the Trial of Zinn to which I am referring. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 07:35, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Quest Overviews[edit]

Firstly, thanks for putting a lot of work into the Winds of Change pages, secondly - why remove the overview of the quest? :/ Guild Wars Wiki:Formatting/Quests#Syntax and Example shows there should be an overview beneath the infobox and before the quest information. I admit it doesn't add much, but its a bit of flavor. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 21:51, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

I've just never seen it before, and it seems pretty useless. But now that you've pointed it out on the formatting guide, I'll leave them alone. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 21:58, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
It's always been there, but most are, literally, a 5-8 word sentence and is very easily overlooked. I agree that they are, as is, useless and could easily be replaced with the walkthrough section, but that "section" is potentially a good "summary of events" piece that should be placed. Issue is that most quests are, well, short or simple in summarizing. Konig/talk 23:29, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, the ones that I removed seemed to be copy/paste of the first quest objective and I thought that somebody had put them there as placeholders and forgot to remove them. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 23:47, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

"Characters aren't spelling"[edit]

Re

Technically they are. Letters and numbers are characters just as characters of the asian languages are, of course, characters. A character in this sense refers to a single item which represents a syllable, sound, etc. (depending on the language), but all words - no matter the language - are spelled with characters.
Asian characters just spell in a very different manner than latinized characters like those I'm using now. Konig/talk 00:49, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Well, sure. Letters and numbers are characters, but asian characters aren't letters, they are pictographs, just like hieroglyphics. And you can't spell with pictures. I'm no linguist, so there may be official terminology that applies that actually dictates that it should be called spelling. It just feels really out of place to me, so I reworded it to fit better. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 01:07, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
I'm no linguist either, but I'm fairly certain they are not pictographs as pictographs are more pictorial symbols (such as, you mentioned, hieroglyphs). They are alphabets and I'm certain (more certain than them not being pictographs) that you can spell with them, as you can create words and sentences with them.
Spelling, as far as my English major knowledge would allow me to go (and I assume that's fairly far), is the act of making words. As such, when multiple characters create a single word, that'd be spelling. E.g., a is not spelling, but an is. Similar, Miku, which has two characters, would be spelling (as you would not get the same word when switching them around). It's just that instead of letters you get words and/or syllables (I don't know enough of Asian alphabets, let alone the one that Miku uses - which I assume is Japanese due to Stumme's interest in anime). Konig/talk 01:14, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, it's Japanese. And asian characters, or rather, more specifically, Chinese characters, which are also used by the Japanese, and to a lesser extent, the Koreans, are pictographs. They aren't direct representations like hieroglyphics or ancient Native American wall paintings, but they are pictures, just more complex. And then some characters contain other, simpler, characters as radicals to maintain the general ideas of the words. For example, the character for water is 水, and then all words that have to deal with water, such as ocean 海, or lake 湖, or fountain 泉, have 水 as a radical, showing that the words are water-related. That's just a very basic example, but basically, if you hear a word in one of those languages that you don't understand, you can have them draw it for you, and if you understand the radicals of a character, then you'll get the gist of the word. Just like playing pictionary. So, I don't speak Chinese, I speak Japanese, but I know that in Chinese, they use nothing but characters for their written language, and so sometimes, with non-native words, they have to simply plug in a character that is pronounced a certain way to write the word and have the reader be able to read it with the correct phonetic sounds. In that case, the characters have no meaning at all, they are just used to get the word to sound right. That could be considered spelling. But Chinese characters, especially when used for the native words in Chinese or Japanese, are actually considered pictographs. They are drawings that have meaning. They don't represent words or sounds (with the exception of Chinese using them for foreign words), they represent ideas and meanings, but they have certain ways to read them, just like hieroglyphics. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 01:49, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Actually, let me use a different word here. Not pictographs, but pictograms. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 01:54, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
I think it's pedantic to distinguish "spelling" from laying out chinese/japanese characters in the proper order, but it's absolutely appropriate for the wiki: no harm is done by changing the wording; arguably, there was room for misunderstanding before Musha's edit. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:11, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

A Greeting, and a Humble Request[edit]

Musha,

First, happy belated birthday!

Second, sorry for mucking up your talk page, but I couldn't think of a more preferable way to contact you. Please feel free to delete the post upon receipt and review.

Now, to the heart of the matter.

I don't know if you remember me, but I am Faerun. Alarion Faerun, to be exact, though I went by other handles in other avatars. I am inquiring to see whether the Guardians will be making the transition to Guild Wars 2. If so, I would also humbly request an opportunity to speak with you, or your appropriate officer(s) regarding the possibility of a reunion. You see, I have prepurchased Guild Wars 2, and can think of no better place to call home than the hallowed halls I once walked in your current shoes.

I am attempting to revive my original Guild Wars Account in order to preserve my character names, and will be logging in at zero-dark hour for the headstart to grab them quickly, if possible. I will attempt to contact you in-game, but please feel free to reach out at your convenience as well. Look for Alarion Faerun first, as this is my preferred namesake.

I look forward to seeing you, and my former Guildmates, regardless of your decision. Good hunting.

Faerun 22:09, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

ABSOLUTELY!! Guardians of the Light will be very much alive in GW2 and we love to see the return of the TRUE guardians such as yourself. I will look for you in game. I'm not quite sure what character name I will be going by as I have not yet picked those, but I will try to contact you. If you don't hear from me, please contact me here as I am very much still active in GW and on this wiki. Also, at least for the time being, if not permanently, we have chosen the Dragonbrand server as home. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 01:34, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Musha, Guardians, Friends,
/kneel.
I am honored, humbled, and pleased beyond description to be received in this manner. I will seek you out, and we can rekindle our prior relationships. While I don't wish to leave anyone out, please send my best especially to Sir Nighthawk, and my request for a rendez-vous (rends-toi if I still merit such familiarity, but I digress). You can count on me being Alarion Faerun, probably an Asura Elementalist, unless some unfortunate soul has since adopted my namesake. Woe unto the unlucky fellow (or lady).
Thank you so much for indicating the appropriate home server -- in my ignorance I neglected to inquire as to this important detail.
Also, as a word of warning, I unfortunately have yet to acquire means for communicating via Ventrilo (although Amazon Prime will help me remedy that soon) and will be limited to text communication in the meantime. I've also fallen behind on Guild Wars lore, but relish in the idea of a Renaissance. Until we meet again, my appreciation, my reverence, and my honor are at the Guild's disposal.

I'm searching for your name, but, alas, you are not being found... Please try adding me, my account name is Musha. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 07:19, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
I had some initial server/client communication issues that had to be resolved, but will be online today. Alarion Faerun was still available, so you can find me via that handle. Cheers.
