[edit] Acquisition
This miniature can only be obtained via a cross-campaign scavenger hunt. Access to all three campaigns and the expansion is required.
- Zho's Journal is the first item needed to begin the hunt and is obtained from defeating Zho in the third round of the Norn Fighting Tournament.
- Creating your own Incubator Kit is the second step which will house all of the remaining items in this scavenger hunt. The Incubator Kit can be obtained from Katharine in Gyala Hatchery (explorable area).
- 50
, 10
, and 5
are required to make the Incubator Kit. Be aware that you will also need to be carrying your own copy of Zho's Journal for Katharine to talk to you.
[edit] Incubator Items
The following items must be collected and placed in the incubator.
- Take a normal Moa Egg (found in one of the nests south of Fort Ranik) to the Mourning Veil Falls landmark southwest of Durheim Archives. This creates a Hardened Moa Egg which fits into your incubator.
- Nesting Material from Nuwisha in southern Resplendent Makuun for 5 Skree Wings
- A Volcanic Rock from north-eastern Perdition Rock
- A Herring from Gruhn the Fisher in western Twin Serpent Lakes for 5 Bog Skale Fins it is recommended that you farm the skales in Tears of the Fallen or Stingray Strand for there is an abundance of Bog Skales there.
- A Branch of Juni Berries from feeding Toma out in Marga Coast with the Insatiable Appetite quest
- A Honeycomb, a quest reward from the Eye of the North quest, A Hunter's Pride or from the collector Galton Franks in Sacnoth Valley for 8 Stone Grawl Necklaces or from a Gift of the Traveler
With the exception of Nesting Material, these items do not have to be collected by the character with the incubator.
To place the items in the incubator, double-click on the incubator to open a small window and drag the item into it. Doing this will remove the item from your inventory. The incubator window will show translucent icons as place holders for the six items, which will be replaced with the opaque icon when each item is added.
Once all six items are placed in the incubator, travel to Sorrow's Furnace with the quest The Final Assault and The Forge Heart active. Fight your way to the central furnace and allow yourself to be hit by Sorrow's Flame, which will hatch the Black Moa Chick (the incubator and all the components will be consumed). If you are having trouble hatching the chick, first make sure that the Sorrow's Flame icon is showing in your damage monitor area. If you were hit by Sorrow's Flame, check to make sure all the items are actually in the incubator (not in your inventory!) and try again.
Although Sorrow's Flame is also dealt by the giant furnace near the Iron Forgeman's lair (where the Rage Binders are), to hatch the Black Moa Chick, it is necessary to stand in the liquid metal poured down by the Iron Forgeman.
[edit] Notes
- You do not need to take Zho's Journal into Sorrow's Furnace with you (the Journal becomes redundant once you have acquired the Incubator Kit)
- As of the September 6th update, it is no longer possible to "trick-trade" the customized Nesting Material
- The Black Moa Chick can only be acquired once per character
- This miniature is actually slightly smaller than a character in Black Moa Chick Form.
- You do not need the quest The Final Assault to hatch the minipet. If one member of your party has this quest active, you may take the quest The Forge Heart when you enter Sorrow's Furnace. The Black Moa Chick will hatch when you are hit by Sorrow's Flame.
[edit] Trivia
- Like the Brown Rabbit and the White Rabbit, this item is not prefixed by the word "Miniature".
- The Black Moa Chick is the first miniature to have an original model made specifically for it, rather than using a resized model of another NPC.
- While a shrunk version of the other moas is used in the Zaishen Menagerie, as with the rest of the animals, this model is used for the young Black Moas.
