[edit] Walkthrough
[edit] Level One
This level is fairly straightforward -- the distance between the entrance and exit for each level is very small. Simply make your way from one end of the room to the other. There are plenty of mobs along the way, therefore it is advisable to tread slowly so that too many monsters are not aggro'd. The area map for this level is unnecessary, but can be found by the entrance door.
[edit] Level Two
Upon entrance, a player may find an area map nearby. Near the bottom of the icy area Frost Wurms and Frostmaw Spawns will pop up. Killing these creatures can be tedious, but the process should pose no real threat to players if they are careful and well-prepared.
Just outside of that room, there will be a group of containing Chromatic Drakes, Frozen Elementals, and a Frostmaw Spawn. This group can easily destroy a party if members attack recklessly. It is much safer to pull the group bit by bit.
[edit] Level Three
Keep left on entry. The first open area will contain Ice Imps, Frost Wurms and Frostmaw Spawn. Another tedious kill, but should not be much of a problem for a prepared party. This area has 2 exits, on the left and at the far end. The left exit is a dead-end but contains the area map and a collection of Dwarfen Powderkegs. The kegs may be?? needed to break down the wall blocking the entry to level 4. The entry to this station is guarded by more Frost Wurms and Frostmaw Spawn. Be prepared because the entry is narrow, and the Wurms aggro at the narrowest point. The next chamber is guarded by Ice Imps, Frozen Elementals, Whirling Whisps,Stormcloud Incubuss, as well as Frost Wurms and and the occasional Frostmaw Spawn. All of these will aggro aggressively, so it's usually best to use range weapons to whittle them down to a workable size before entering the chamber. As long as you've picked up the map, finding the path through this level is not a problem. The mobs of Stormcloud Incubus, and Frost Wurms combined with Frozen Elementals and Ice Imps, are tiresome, and can create numerous wipe-outs throughout this level, if you're not prepared for them.
[edit] Level Four
Upon entrance the area map is on your right. Carefully pick off the Incubus's and the Mandragors without coming close to the Siege Wurm. When you approach the Siege Wurm another Frost Wurm will spawn. It's possible to hide behind the ice to prevent the Siege Wurm from hitting you while you bring down the other wurm. Past the ice bridge, a Frostmaw Spawn boss will spawn. Don't rush, and you should be able to take out the wurm with no problems. When you reach the ice bridge, do yourself a favor and lure the Mandragors across. They are hard enough to dispatch on their own. After the bridge is an ice dome; from there you can see a Siege Wurm. A longbow allows you to lure in the Mandragors with only one blow from the Siege Wurm. Kill them before continuing. Run hard to the right past the Icy Stalagmite into the next chamber, ignoring the Siege Wurms, if you can. Their placement, however, will usually require their removal, leaving only a single Frost Wurm to kill in this area. From the next doorway, a group of Siege Wurms are visible, accompanied by Mandragors. Lure the Mandragors away, and kill them while out of range of the Siege Wurms. Then, although it's tempting to ignore them, all three of the Siege Wurms have to be taken care of, or the aggro will be too great for any team. The last "real" problem is a group of Jotun guarding the approach to the Level 5 entrance. You need to pull the Jotun away from their post since a Frostmaw Spawn and one, or more, Frost Wurms emerge and aggro with them. Once removed from their guardpost, the Jotun are tedious, but much simpler to kill, followed by the Frostmaw Spawn and the Frost Wurm. The best attack point against these is the hilside to the right of the Jotuns post. Finally, the gate itelf is guarded by two Icy Stalagmites.
[edit] Level Five
Frostmaw the Kinslayer can be found here. To get her to come out, you will need to kill the Young Frost Wurms and Frost Wurm Larvae, which will make her appear as well as 2 Frostmaw Spawns and 3 Frost Siege Wurms. Once Kinslayer is dead, a reward chest will appear. If you are wanting the area map it is in the top left corner of the cavern. (Note) Don't give up - Frostmaw does not regenerate health so if you are high on DP just keep going. Keep your team spread out while slowly going through this level. In the room where Kinslayer spawns is a door: that's a safe spot where you can plan and prepare your assault. Attack any of the Frost Siege Wurms and pull back toward the door. Kinslayer, and the Frostmaw Spawns will attack you, giving you the opportunity to defeat them while staying out of reach of the remaining Frost Siege Wurms AoE effects. Completion of this dungeon does require that ALL of the Frost Siege Wurms on this level be defeated. (Usually, killing them is also the only way to speak to Latham to obtain the Mission reward, since the Frost Siege Wurms are very effective at defending themselves, and the Norn bodies are usually strewn thoughout this area)
[edit] Dialogue
[edit] Initial dialogue
Latham
- "We were on a hunt, my brothers and I, when the ground shook and heaved beneath our feet. It was as if the earth itself became wracked by a death rattle! I was tossed into the air and slammed against a mighty tree. When I awoke, the smell of blood was thick on my tongue. I found my brothers, torn to pieces, a giant frost wurm ripping the flesh from their bones. I could only watch, sick with horror, as the beast finished its meal and descended into its lair. I swore I would avenge my kin or join them. My destiny and my honor are linked to that creature, in life or death."
- Accept: "Revenge is best served cold. Ice cold."
- Decline: "Good luck with that whole "honorable death" thing."
- When asked about quest: "Share in our glory. Enter the wurm lair and destroy Frostmaw the Kinslayer...unless your courage has failed you."
[edit] Intermediate dialogue
Fastulf
- "Don't linger over my wounds. Death comes for me, and I welcome its cold embrace. If you seek the ghastly wurm, you must lure her from the mountains. Frostmaw and her children feed on the rats infesting this place. Use them to lure the wurms out where you can kill them. Beware! That raging abomination has sent many hearty souls to their deaths...but you are determined, yes? May your passing be glorious and quick."
[edit] Reward dialogue
Latham
- "My brothers are avenged at last! Many songs will be sung of our deeds, <character name>. I must hunt down the remaining wurm younglings hiding in the mountains. You shared in Frostmaw's downfall. Rest assured that your name will not be forgotten."
[edit] Notes
Additional information may be found by referencing the WIKI dungeon guide to Frostmaw's Burrows. Lathan and his Norn comrades will resurrect themselves, but ONLY after the monster(s) that caused their death(s) have been defeated.
