A trade is an exchange of items, gold or services. Trade generally has three different meanings in Guild Wars.

[edit] Trade with an NPC trader

In all cities you can find traders for various goods (runes, dye, materials, ...). A trader, unlike a merchant or a crafter, does not sell and buy goods at a fixed price, but depending on supply and demand. You may even find a trader "out of stock" if there is very little supply. Prices have a lower limit (the same price that you would get if you sell the same good to a merchant) but are open ended.

[edit] Trade with other players

If you click another human player, the "Trade" button will appear next to his name in your target monitor. Clicking that button will open up the trade window and start a trading session.

Beware of common scams while trading with other players!

[edit] Trade channel and party search

The trade channel is a chat channel where players attempt to sell their items to other players, or attempt to buy items from other players. Words spoken in the trade channel appear pinkish-red in the chat window. There is also a trade section in the party search interface, where you can post short messages about what you want to sell or buy. Common abbreviations for the trade channel and party search include:

  • WTS = Wish/Want/Willing To Sell
  • S> = Selling
  • WTB = Wish/Want/Willing To Buy
  • B> = Buying
  • WTT = Wish/Want/Willing To Trade
  • T> = Trading
  • PC or P/C = Price Check
  • C/O = Current Offer
  • OBO = Or Best Offer (can also mean Or Buy Out)
  • PM = Private Message (whisper)
  • PST = Please Send Tell (whisper)
  • Req or R or Q = Requirement (as in attribute requirement for weapons)
  • ^ = Above (i.e. Damage 15^50 refers to extra damage when health is above 50%)
  • Max or Perfect or Perf = Item deals the maximum damage (weapons), has the most armor (shields), has the most energy (focus), or has the maximum value on its modifiers

Note: Using WTS or WTB in the local channel will automatically switch you to the trade channel. It is forbidden to advertise trades in the local channel, and may result in you getting reported for spamming, and your account being suspended.

Note: you can not trade with another player until 24 hours after creation of your Guild Wars account. This is to prevent real world trading (exchanging real money for game money) and to hinder scammers.

Items placed in the trade screen will have a small white outline in your inventory. When the trade is finalized, the white outline will still be on the inventory slot(s) of the items traded until the inventory screen is closed and reopened or filled with another item.
