[edit] Acquisition

The Lucky and Unlucky title tracks can mostly be progressed together, since winning benefits your Lucky progress, while losing works towards your Unlucky.

The primary means of earning progress to both title tracks involve participating in games of chance during special events (such as the Canthan New Year and Wintersday 2006). The games involve buying tickets and, based on certain odds, will either see your character winning or losing tickets. See the guide to luck titles for more in-depth details on both the games and the analysis of their odds.

Using lockpicks can earn you points on both title tracks. A successfully retained lockpick gives a 250 point progress for the Lucky title track. Failure to retain a lockpick instead gives 250*(retain probability) points to the Unlucky title track. Thus, at the lowest possible retain rate of 10% every broken lockpick will give 25 Unlucky points (250*10%=25) and the amount of points goes up with the retain rate.

Four-leaf Clovers give a 4-point bonus to the Lucky title track if it successfully removes 15% death penalty from your character.

[edit] Notes

  • Statistically, it would take about 2,205,882 Gold to win 2.5 million Festival Tickets (based on the Nine Rings game available during the Canthan and Wintersday festivals).
  • The Rings of Fortune game is cheaper than the Nine Rings game for getting the unlucky title. For every 1 ticket purchased, you lose an average of 4.5 games. So to lose 500,000 games (and get rank 7 in unlucky), you'd need 111,111 tickets, which would cost 1667 Platinum.
  • A player would need to retain a lockpick 10,000 times to max the Lucky title track. The amount of lockpicks required to max the Unlucky title track depends on the type of chests opened.
  • Lockpicks were updated to contribute to these title tracks from the April 26, 2007 update. As such, this has good synergy with the Treasure Hunter title track.
  • After achieving Blessed by Fate the title will still progress although there does not seem to be a tier seven for this title.
  • Chests with very cheap (50Gold) keys is a good way to work on this title as you have a high chance of successfully retaining your lockpick in normal mode. The downside is that the synergy with the Treasure Hunter title track is lost, since these chests are not "high-end" (i.e. those with keys costing more than 600Gold). Nevertheless, maxing this title using this method will cost about 4,000Platinum.
