In my opinion, there are many many things which can be done to Prophecies and Factions that would improve the enjoyment of playing (or replaying) them. But to me, the thing that could use the most improvements are the "minor big boss fights" - e.g., the plot-driven boss fights that are not the "big bads" of the game. A list of such boss fights (boss and mission) are:

Prophecies
Factions

To me, the only fights that are done well are Hablion, Glint, Rurik, and Kuunavang. The others can be made far better - and this goes triple for the Prophecies one since each one of them holds a personal tie to the PC! Even then, I can see some improvements for the Glint fight as well.

Bonfaaz Burntfur[edit]

I believe this to be the most underdone fight in all of Prophecies. Bonfaaz Burntfur has been an indirect plight since pre-Searing, and a direct one since the first mission. Sure, it's only four missions in, but it's the first storyline big bad to fight! This guy caused the Searing and invaded Ascalon twice and no one seems to care.

My suggestion is this: a simple taunt when Rurik and co. arrive, with Bonfaaz being non-hostile prior (to prevent players from being able to rush before Rurik gets anywhere close to the end). Something like "Pathetic meat, I've already destroyed your kingdom with the Searing, and now I have captured your capital. You will not win this war!"

Then, as he turns hostile, have a dialogue-less cinematic (WoC proves the Live Team is capable of pulling resources for such, and with GW2 released by the time the Live Team can get back to GW1, they'll have more resources available due to fewer being required for GW2's making) where he summons two construct allies - either Charr Hunter Beasts or Charr Effigies. However, if you want to make the fight really epic, take the titan effigies seen throughout Ascalon, and give them standard titan animations, and present those in the fight. Could even add in a line akin to "Our gods will give us the strength we need to destroy you and your powerless gods!"

Glint[edit]

The bonus here never really made sense to me, but a minor improvement needed is fixing the cinematic where she becomes hostile - the main thing is to show the portal gate closing, and not just closed. Secondly, add some exposition as to why 1) we would take an egg and 2) why that pisses her off (other than the whole implied motherly love thing).

Markis[edit]

This guy betrayed the Shining Blade, tried from the get go to get the PCs killed, and acted suspicious the entire time. He's a bastard to the PCs and we hold no reaction to killing him? Granted, his fight is a bit better what with him actually having lines unlike Bonfaaz, Dagnar, and Dorian, and his fight is even in stages, but there's a neat way to improve it:

Add in a cinematic which shows to us, for the first time, the jade constructs being broken free from their little pillars. It's something that could easily be missed. And on top of that, why not add in some Jade Cloaks? One place in all of Prophecies? Hell, why not! Would certainly make the fight more entertaining.

And perhaps more than a mere line of "so you figured out it was me eh? Time to die! >:D"

And of course, something that should be done to all missions (and quests): have the dialogue in those fancy boxes that appeared with Factions.

Dagnar Stonepate[edit]

This guy killed Rurik (you bastard!) and yet he's perhaps the most passable boss fight - mostly because the mission doesn't end with him. Bonfaaz is, imo, a bigger blight on Prophecies' storyline/PC interaction/reaction, but Dagnar's still a damn big shame.

The first thing that I would suggest for his fight is to have some banter between him and the cousin he's trying to overthrow - Jalis Ironhammer.

Secondly, make him invulnerable/non-hostile and further from his minions so that he cannot be killed before the stone summit mooks - alternatively, if he's aggroed, have all the stone summit in the keep head towards him, effectively making the fight one of pure numbers.

Thirdly, and most importantly, once his health gets to a certain point - he dismounts. This can be done via a cinematic or not, but simply show him getting off and becoming a warrior boss for us to then fight. Perhaps even an added line of how we killed his "precious pet" or something.

And, something that should be done with all enemies in Prophecies - make his skillbar harder.

Confessor Dorian[edit]

This one's a bit harder, since he holds post-mortem exposition. The best I can think of would be a taunt from Dorian as he passes by, circling Thunderhead Keep.

Afflicted Yijo[edit]

He's a similar case to Vatlaaw Doomtooth in Prophecies, except where Vatlaaw is a case of "die beast!" Yijo is a case of "former classmate, I'm sorry to do this to you but die!"

The introduction to him is just a mere line by Togo, but there's decent post-mortem effects for him, so it mostly balances out. However, I'd probably do to him the same as to Minister Cho - have him turn into a real afflicted when he's killed. Similar situation with my Dagnar suggestion - effectively, two boss fights in one boss fight.

Sunjiang Shiro[edit]

This one's perhaps the best done of the "could use improvements" - the main thing I would have to say is that the skillbar for the four bosses at the end are far too simple and easy, so an improvement there for a "big fight" is rather needed. Heck, I would probably even hold all eight professions there. Effectively making this fight a "8 players/h/h v 8 bosses fight"
