Walkthrough[edit]
The goal of this mission is to reach Zen Daijun temple to find the source of the plague and extinguish it. Master Togo and Headmaster Vhang will help you through as allies and Master Togo must survive or the mission will fail. Follow Master Togo a short walk and you will see Miasma (purplish glowing air), an environmental effect that spreads between creatures of the same kind and cause -5 health degeneration. To counter this hazard, summon Zunraa (the guardian of this valley) by ringing the bell at any Shrine of Zunraa (wiki map: blue dots) found through the area. This ally can be called again if he is slain (but you can only have one at a time) and possesses the skill Blessing of the Kirin, used to cure your team of Miasma. Always pull enemies away from the Miasma to fight them or rush through it and fight on the other side. Avoid engaging two groups at the same time, never let them outnumber you.
After traveling a short distance you will reach a small shrine with a large Afflicted group, including The Afflicted Xai. The path splits here: to reach the temple, either travel south through the caves (wiki map: yellow path) or north past the waterfall (wiki map: red path).
Once at the entrance to the temple (bridge with two dragon statues), defeat both Afflicted Farmer Xeng Jo and Afflicted Yijo. After killing these two bosses, eliminate the remaining Afflicted inside the temple to finish the mission. Lure enemies outside if possible to gain more space and avoid AoE damage.
Hard mode[edit]
Interrupting Yijo's Spirit Rift or careful usage of skills such as Protective Spirit can prove crucial to prevent mission failure.
You can leave Master Togo behind after he stops at the first pocket of Miasma, he will stay there and wait for a party member to go near him to trigger his first intermediate dialogue. Avoid the main path and go northwest, which will prevent your party from going near him. Be sure to clear enemies in the area or they might kill Togo after your party leaves him.
Skill recommendations[edit]
- A minion master to increase the size of your team and form meat shields to reduce incoming damage.
- Afflicted Elementalists can do huge AoE damage, but pulling a group by hitting its Elementalist with Pain Inverter can instantly neutralize the threat.
- Entire party can be set on fire often throughout the mission; Extinguish (with some investment into Protection Prayers) or Breath of the Great Dwarf can be very helpful.
- Skills that benefit from Cracked Armor synergize well with Master Togo's Spirit Rift.
- Interrupts can prevent Yijo's Spirit Rift.
- In hard mode, enchantment-based builds are vulnerable to enchantment removal by Afflicted Necromancers and Mesmers. Afflicted that deal physical damage can also remove enchantments when enchanted with Afflicted Necromancer's Order of Apostasy.

Dialogue[edit]
Opening cinematic[edit]
- Master Togo: "I'm glad you have come."
- <party leader>: "What was that?"
- Master Togo: "I do not know. But let us hope that whatever made that sound did not suffer long."
- "Be on your guard. Who knows what foul things we may find inside."
- <party leader>: "They look just like Minister Cho."
- Master Togo: "Whatever it was that infected my old friend has spread."
- "We must get to the bottom of this."
- "Come."
Initial dialogue[edit]
- Headmaster Vhang
- "Zen Daijun is overrun with the Afflicted. It is good that I am here to protect all of you."
- Master Togo
- "In times of trouble, the people of this valley gather in the main temple to the west. We should seek Yijo there."
- "All right, follow me and stay close. We are in great danger."
Intermediate dialogue[edit]
(When reaching the first pocket of miasma.)
- Master Togo
- "Do you see that purplish glow up ahead? The very air there has become sickened. Avoid it, lest you catch some disease from it."
- Headmaster Vhang
- "If you become diseased, <party leader>, make certain you keep your distance or you will infect us all."
(When reaching the first Shrine of Zunraa.)
- Master Togo
- "Ring the bell at any of the shrines in this area to summon Zunraa, the guardian of this valley."
- "You can take the lead now. I will follow you and watch your progress."
(When ringing the bell at the first shrine.)
- Zunraa
- "For hundreds of years I have watched over this holy valley. If your heart is pure, I will keep your body free of all impurities."
(When reaching the crossroad.)
- Master Togo
- "Zen Daijun temple lies in the valley ahead. We can either travel south through the caves or north past the waterfall...."
- Headmaster Vhang
- "Either path will suit me. The sooner we set out, the sooner I shall wipe this plague from my homeland."
(When reaching the waterfall.)
- Headmaster Vhang
- "We should have brought someone who knows how to fight, Master Togo. There are so many Afflicted creatures here, it will take us some time to kill them all."
- Master Togo
- "It is true that the plague is far worse here than it was at Minister Cho's estate. This may mean the source of the affliction is somewhere in this very valley."
(When reaching the bridge to the temple.)
- Headmaster Vhang
- "Look! The affliction has claimed them all. Even Farmer Xeng Jo has been corrupted. Yijo should have known he could not handle this on his own.
- Master Togo
- "Headmaster Vhang, that is enough! Yijo gave his life protecting those around him. There is no more noble act."
- "I know it is difficult, my friends, but we must put an end to their suffering. They would want us to do so. Let us help their spirits find rest."
(When reaching the temple.)
- Master Togo
- "Look up ahead! That building is engulfed by miasma. Surely the source of the plague lies up there."
- Headmaster Vhang
- "Let us destroy Afflicted Kana, and put an end to this infestation!"
End cinematic[edit]
- Master Togo:
- "I had hoped that my eyes would not bear witness to this symbol again."
- <party leader>:
- "Master, what is it?"
- Master Togo:
- "This is the harbinger of the deceiver, the mark of the wicked."
- "The guild symbol of Shiro Tagachi."
- <party leader>:
- "The man whose death turned the forest to stone and the sea to jade?"
- Master Togo:
- "The very same."
- "This does not bode well for Cantha."
- "We must head to the mainland and get to the root of this evil before it can..."
- "Well, let us not think about that yet."
- "I have sent a missive to Mhenlo of Ascalon, one of my former students."
- "He will no doubt be making his way to Cantha shortly."
- "If this symbol means what I think it does, then we could all be in great danger."
- "I must find my brother in Kaineng City. He will want to know of this."
- "You will come after and meet me."
- "Talk to First Mate Xiang to book your passage to the mainland."
- "He will get you to the other side safely."
Notes[edit]
- This mission is required for non-Factions characters in order to be able to enter Vizunah Square (Local Quarter), but does not allow such characters to enter on their own. They need to join a Factions character who is doing Mayhem in the Market.
- Completion of this mission will fill in page #10 of the Young Heroes of Tyria storybook.
