I think they found some massive bug in the KiK content, and they removed the Gate Guard while they implement a fix. And That they threw in the pink dye vendor thing to make us run around like headless chickens for a while. Radthor Dax 19:41, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
- I guess this is a classic case of why it's a good idea to do QA on your updates before pushing them live. Tisk tisk, arena.net -- surely someone from the Very Important And Crucial (Vapor) GW2 QA Team could be persuaded to do a test pass on one outpost to see if the update was correct ? Will pink dyes be also added to one of the dye drops? Pink Dye Preview on Wiki[edit]
We have many armors/weapons/hats/costumes which have dye preview charts on their wiki page. Are we gonna add Pink Dye to the charts?
- First, sign your comments with 4 ~. I'd say (unless someone has too much free time), we can just make another image with the pink version while respecting the dye chart rules. Markus Clouser 09:27, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
- I would say that if anything, a gallery of Pink Dyed armor (and possibly a selection of weapons) could be added as a subpage of Rosa Salvitas. with a reference link added to the armor pages. I'm not sure doing weapons is necessary, unless a lot of people start dying their weapons pink as well. Since this dye will not be available to everyone on an ongoing basis (only to those who buy and stock up during the next 2 weeks), I don't see adding it to the very nicely done (and symmetrical) dye charts that are currently in existence. -- Wyn talk 09:42, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
- Well pink dye charts would indeed be nice, on the other hand I don't really see more point to adding images for every item dyed pink than doing the same with different color mixes. I think a few previews of different armor and weapon sets on a subpage of either the vendor's or the dye's articles would be enough. --Adul 14:08, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

- I think it's hasty to set a strong precedent right now. Lots of people I know are stocking up on pink dye (and lots are not interested at all). Those spending cash on this special-occasion color are dying everything: weapons, bags, whatever they can find. They are mixing and matching. As with other dyes, the appearance varies considerably based on the type of material. You can get hot pink, salmon, orange-red, and other variations without mixing.
- The last place I would think to look for examples of dye usage would be on the NPC's page, in part because we don't do anything like that at Dye trader, at Dye, or on most other generic articles that relate to dye. However, I recognize that the current dye charts/galleries are very well done and it would be an alarming amount of work to add pink dye.
- For the next 2-3 weeks, I think that it would be useful to see as many pink dye applications on the wiki as people are willing to post. That will give us a chance to see what readers are actually interested in and help us to decide whether to overhaul or simply post generic examples of the color applied to various substances (e.g. cloth, metals, metal-like substances, wood, stone, and so forth). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:23, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Annual / Mixable ?[edit]
Two questions: Is this vendor going to have an annual appearance every October? And, does this mix with other dyes to make new colors? Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 17:13, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
- ANet hasn't said if this is annual (it's popular, so I would assume that it will be);
- yes, very mixable.

- Ok send me a good PC so I can hop on and grab some! 68.193.122.145 17:38, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
- Actually its an odd dye as it seems that the alpha white level on it is extremly high, even higher than white in fact, which in many mixes now darkens the pink rather than making it lighter. It's quite awesome for alot of the darker armours, as it really lightens the dyable area. I'm having great fun mixing it with stuff. -- Salome 17:46, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah it behaves very differently compared to any other dye in the game. As of now, I'm keeping the pink color for most of the armors for now. Not sure if it's worth it to update the dye images for the armor pages to include pink. I would say yes, if we can get somekind of confirmation if it is annual or not. --Lania 20:29, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
- To me, the behavior is as odd as the behavior of dye remover when it was in the game; Pink Dye has something about it that is entirely different than any other dye. EDIT: sign. --Curin Derwin 22:24, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
- It does however have an issue with alot of festival head gear and alot of armours in general as it does seem to make the colour render funny on the dye preview screen, however this hasnt translated to the actual finished product so not bothered really. -- Salome 22:30, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Why are people digging this?[edit]
Updates that make it possible for us to do what we could already do are cool now? They nerf SF which makes perfect sense and nerdrage ensues, Anet then spends more than 2 months to come up with pink dye as an update and the nerds are happy? I suppose nerds are nerds for a reason... 79.203.105.190 22:21, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
- ??? 1) you couldnt really make that shade of pink, 2) this was an extra update, not an update instead of what they have been working on. It's an attitude like that which makes it hard for anet to add small nice things (like this) while they are working on the bigger stuff. -- Salome 22:27, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
- People only dig it because if you say anything that can, in any shape or form, be construed as even a mildly negative comment about women or breast cancer, you are the Devil. It's hip to jump on the pink bandwagon and throw whatever mud you can at men or should I say rapists right? Because all men are obviously rapists. If you disagree you are clearly a rapist. 68.193.122.145 03:09, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- wtf are you talking about? You do realize that men can get breast cancer too right? just not nearly at the same rate. About 440 men die from it yearly compared to about 40,000 women. --Lania 05:26, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- So 440 men are not rapists. This is significant. elix Omni 06:08, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- Nothing wrong with my attitude, but with Anets priorities. If my car is broken I expect the mechanic to fix it for me first. If however I come back and he has instead installed a cute radio "while he was working on the bigger stuff" I would be pissed off. Same principle here, fix game first, add cute stuff later. The more fixed the game is, the more fun it is and the less cute stuff you need to cover up a big mess.
- If your car is broken and you send it to Anet, they let it stand in the garage for 2 years and tell you a dick joke when you ask when it will get repaired. Koda Kumi 12:38, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- "wtf are you talking about? You do realize that men can get breast cancer too right? just not nearly at the same rate. About 440 men die from it yearly compared to about 40,000 women." How is this constructive? If anything it is "shit nobody cares about" when talking about pc games, IRL=/=GW. Also, I would like to note that breast cancer is generally associated with women, not men (they chose pink for a reason hurdur -.-). So all you did was throw out a random fact you read up in some book that didn't add anything. ON TOP of all that, you were feeding a troll, but I guess you already knew that, which makes me wonder what went through your mind the moment you made that reply. You would make a great case for a human behaviour study...
- To use the car example. If the mechanic would take EXACTLY the same amount of time fixing your car or fixing your car while adding the cute radio, I know which one I would choose. The addition of the pink dye hasn't put any of the updates in progress any further back or taken manpower away from those tasks. -- Salome 13:37, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Well anets mechanics are not taking the exact ammount of time, the only way they could "justify" this is by having some awesome update that causes a complete shift in pvp play (for example), but knowing anet I doubt it.
I don't understand why people are still going on about ANet fixing GW, I'm sorry but it just isn't going to happen because the majority of them are too busy trying to get GW2 out of the door while the rest are trying to keep the small handful of players entertained while bridging the gap. They may continue to bring out updates every once in a while but none of them are going to anything amazing. --Azreal of Skyrim 15:29, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- It does help to read what little insight they provide on upcoming updates. Take a moment and read: http://www.arena.net/blog/what-does-it-all-mean-john-stumme-discusses-war-in-kryta-survey-results Cheers, -Curin Derwin 15:43, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- It also helps to understand what your responding to before commenting. All that blog shows is the results to a survey and the general direction they want to go in while Anet have proved time and time again that what they say and what they do are completely different things. Regardless it shows only info about their plans about the next set GW:B Which I already said is the main thing their doing for GW atm while it also hints at full hero teams which will involve getting rid of a cap that shouldn't of been there in the first place and a few UI tweaks, nothing exactly game breaking since they are just modifying code they've already done, thats if they actually do it.--Azreal of Skyrim 17:17, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- Malibu Barbie and Anet force everyone to care about IRL by invading our video game with their misandric propaganda. Misandry is not even considered a word in spell check and yet I'm sure every pre-teen girl knows how oppressive this "misogynist" society is to them. I refuse to apologize for being apprehensive when there are people who would call you a rapist nazi baby killer for being a male with no clear opinion on abortion. I'm really sick of these big-name GW community celebrities getting special treatment and winding up with all these entitlements. What kind of name is Malibu Barbie, I mean really, this is Guild Wars. Get a name. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 21:30, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
In all honesty[edit]
I think any continued support should be appreciated by A-net. Now I was on the "wtf fix the game" wagon not too long ago but after a few game releases from some games developers that have pretty much dropped support after less than a year, we should be grateful that they continue to bring some form of updates to a game that isn't pay to play. It's been 5 years for christ's sake if you are still realying on Guild Wars for your gaming experience than go check out some other games.
But back to my initial point, Game Devs really only care about money now, times have changed, so be grateful for anything you get even if it's just a different colour dye. Atleast it's all for a good cause and not just to try and get us to shut up. --frostels 15:48, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. I can understand extensive support when the game is fresh and new, but pretty much almost all the revenue stream for the game has been exhausted. No one pays a monthly fee, so why should anyone expect a monthly update. They've already announced the next phase for WiK story arc to take place in Cantha, and I'm quite surprised to even see new content being released at this point. I still think game devs care about the game, but without money, they can't do anything. I'm sure everyone that hasn't been living under a rock knows that the global economy is still in a slump, and the gaming industry was not immune the to effects of the recession. Most projects require loans, credit, bonds and other financial instruments to finance a production of the game, and if developer can't secure funding then no game is made... Kinda like what happened with Interplay back in the 2000's. I'm sure some of you have heard that some of NCsoft's projects have been axed completely, like Tabula Rasa, auto assault, exteel, and dungeon runners. Guildwars only nets 3% of total revenue for 2ndquater 2010 (not like 25% back in 2006), while Aion, lineage 1, lineage 2 makes up the bulk of NCsoft's earnings. In terms of subsidiary sales, Arena Net ranks 2nd to last, next to NCchina in 2Q 2010, and 3/5 of the last quaters, Anet ranked last. I was really worried that NCsoft might axe GW2 when their finances were in trouble back on 2008... but I'm glad that Tabula Rasa got the axe and not ArenaNet. So what's probably happening? ArenaNet is operating on a near financial vacuum solely supported by NCsoft's faith in Anet's developers to produce a very profitable game when GW2 is released. That puts a lot of pressure on Anet to really deliver on their "promise", so naturally they will work on GW2 instead of GW1 which is more of a money sink at this point. --Lania 17:14, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- So, what you're saying is that is if GW2 is crap, Anet's toast? 203.118.171.225 18:16, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- Amendment: Is Lania implying that if Arenanet's Guild Wars 2 title is poor performing, that it might be on the chopping block due to poor performance as an asset to Ncsoft? Edit: Ohhh, Greener Q.Q 203.118.171.225 18:23, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- If GW2 ends up failing to produce significant sales, then yes... NCsoft might axe Anet. But at this point, it's an unlikely scenario because of all the hype surrounding GW2 will generally produce huge amount of sales in the short time period after the game is released even if it is horrible. --Lania 21:51, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- I would agree with all this if the game were actually in a good state right now. Usually a game gets better the more updates they add. This means that after extensive support during the first few years one could tone it down yes. With GW however, the updates have actually made the game worse (talking about pvp here, nobody cares about pve anyway), if pvp were actually balanced people would not moan about updates as much. Izzy was GW's Katrina and it never has recovered. 82.169.222.223 12:25, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
- I think that's got more too do with pride, Anet dev's and game balancers never really went out their way to ask good players to help them balance the game, and because most of them didn't understand what doing XYZ to skill ABC would do, we kept getting update after update which made things worse and worse. In all honesty the meta we currently have isn't dreadfully bad, especially compared to other stuff we have had in the last 2 years. --frostels 16:50, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
