Redirects
When redirecting images to a contributions page (as seen unintentionally here), one cannot access the "source page" of the image, as no direct link appears at the top like a normal redirect. I tested it with my user page backround, and it appears to do the same thing; link to the contributions page with no way to access the image source page. This is bad when the image in question may be missing categorization. The process, as far as I can tell, is not reversible (meaning I can't undo the change). Am I missing something obvious, or is there something bug-wise going on here? -- Wandering Traveler 06:06, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, the backlink is not visible as it is not a article page; to access the image simply open the url of that image with

Problems moving a page.
- → moved from Guild Wars Wiki:Admin noticeboard
I tried to move File:Simzy_sig.png to a more correctly named location (being File:Truesimzy_sig.png), but I was provided with an error. "Error:could not submit form. The requested page title was invalid, empty, or an incorrectly linked inter-language or inter-wiki title. It may contain one or more characters which cannot be used in titles." I'm not sure why this is, I tried clearing my cache, deleting cookies, I checked the location, I made sure the naming was correct and didn't contain any improper characters. So, could an admin please move this to the correct location, and try to figure out why I encountered this error? Thank you. Ryuu - talk 02:46, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- File:User_Truesimzy_Simzy_sig.png, it seems the user uploaded the image to a more correct location themselves, but that isn't the location I was trying to upload to, so I still don't understand the error. I'm adding a delete tag to the incorrectly named one, but I'd still like an explanation of this, if possible. Ryuu - talk 02:49, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

- I think it has to do with the feature still being experimental, sometimes it fails for no reason. (Ok, of course there is a reason, but they haven't been able to solve it yet). - anja 18:09, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- That error you were receiving is the normal error when image moving fails for whatever reasons. We had that more often at the beginning but it calmed down quite well. In that case, just upload the image manually at the new location (and name the original author). poke | talk 18:49, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
I was the one who uploaded it and i did also correct it after the first mistake so you might have been trying to fix something that i had just done maybe a minute or so before you, who knows Simzy 18:39, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Problem concerning a specific page that does not have a corresponding "talk" option
The login buttons, and retreive password buttons are so close together, and look so similar, that I have found myself getting new passwords sent to me on several occasions - - sorry, it's me who is making the mistake- but that page could be modified a tad to make login, and the hastle of retrieving creating a new password easier. Currently, it's an accident waiting to happen - and i frequently fall prey to it - especially when i'm in a hurry.
There is probably a better page to put this, but I'm so new to this that I didn't know where to go other than bug report. Thank you for your patience, Remoteluxuries 00:21, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- In all the browser I know of, you can press Enter to login while your cursor is in one of the text boxes. Hope that helps -Smurf 05:13, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Are you talking about Special:UserLogin? As far as I know, that is integral to the wiki software, and would require coding changes to the actual software, though it is feasible, I'm not sure how high a priority ArenaNet might give it. If you use the same computer, I would simply check the Remember Me box, and then you wouldn't have to log in each time you come here. -- Wyn talk 05:55, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Regarding his complaint about the two buttons close to each other and looking similar, we can easily add custom CSS to MediaWiki:Common.css to modify the appearance if we want to. -Smurf 06:15, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Feedback is gone
Something has happened to the feedback namespace. The Feedback portal leads nowhere and all of the pages have been moved to the main namespace, with a colon preceding them. I tested this a few different ways, so I'm pretty sure it's not me... I would leave a message for Emily since this seems kinda high-priority (half the wiki is gone) but somebody protected her page. :/ –Jette 17:28, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- That's because the namespace settings are gone. That way "Feedback:PAGE" is treated as a page inside the main namespace with the title "Feedback:PAGE", but in the database it only exists as "PAGE" in the Feedback namespace. So the pages are not lost, but just not accessible. poke | talk 17:41, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Grasping Mask image cache
Hi, I've ran into a problem while moving images. I moved File:Grasping Mask default front.jpg to File:Grasping Mask m front.jpg and thought everything was fine, until Wyn told me that their was a problem with the cache and to try it later. I tried it again but got "Could not find file "$1". So I tried it again and now it's "A page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid. Please choose another name." but the page shows nothing but then the page says "No file by this name exists, but you can upload one" and the history shows that Wyn and I moved the pages (but recent changes and the move log don't). Wyn suggested to report it here and have the IT crew clear it. Alternatively I guess I could just upload the file in the new space and not bother the IT crew. Thanks! Wiki-username: Mystical Celestia (the top of the page told me to say it!) ~Celestia 04:51, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
- That's a common error with the image moving tool, we cannot really avoid. You can easily identify it, when the actual content revisions were moved to the target page, but the source page still has all file revisions. If you see it happening, the only possibility to fix it is by re-uploading the file to the target page stating the original uploader in the upload text. Afterwards just tag the old page for deletion. poke | talk 14:15, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
BLOCKS
On my account there seems to be an annoying bug. Whenever someone gets blocked I seem to be affected by the block as well (the block is not intended for me). Skin defaults
I'm not sure exactly where to put this, so if it should be somewhere else, feel free to move it as is appropriate. It has recently been brought to my attention that users who choose to view GWW using different skins in their preferences are having difficulties seeing some content appropriately. The global monobook.css file sets table backgrounds to default as white, while others set it as transparent. Is it possible to get the css files attached to the various optional skins changed so that they have some of the same basic defaults? I know that the Modern skin specifically has this issue. -- Wyn 05:56, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
- This may be possible, but I'm not sure how much of a time sink that would be. In order to make these changes effectively, it seems like we'd have to identify problem classes for all available skins and manually update the stylesheets of each one to include the fixes. We'd also have to make sure to do this each time we do upgrades, as I believe that they overwrite default files. It's not to say that it's impossible. I'm just wondering if it would be better to just strike all MediaWiki skins (except for Monobook), since the wiki looks completely broken in all non-Monobook styles. I have very limited resources at this point, so I'd rather allocate them in other directions rather than using them to band-aid skins that are probably not (and really shouldn't be) widely used.
- Do you guys think it would be an awful thing to just make Monobook the defacto skin and remove the others? I don't think that beginner users should be able to view the site in a skin we know to be broken, and advanced users who really want to change their looks can always modify their own css (which many already so). -- Emily Diehl (talk) 01:51, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah I agree with that, I don't even get why there are actually other skins available, because they are a bit too simple (well, maybe for alternative web access; lynx/mobilephone anyone?). Monobook is the default skin, monobook is what all visitors will see, so we should focus only on that. I don't care about if we remove the others or keep them for whoever wants to use them (in which case those people should be aware that the view might be different), but we shouldn't "fix" them to display pages in the same way as monobook does (because that is obviously not the intention of those skins). And especially in this case, I don't think any additional work on "fixing" those skins is necessary for that problem of you - sorry, Wyn. poke | talk 07:11, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- I have no problem with making monobook the only available skin, I just brought this up because I just recently found out that the other skins do not have the same css, and I was concerned that anyone choosing a different skin may not be getting the most out of GWW. I do understand the work that would potentially go into adjusting all the css files, and I agree. -- Wyn 07:19, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- It's a little late, but what about MediaWiki:Common.css? Surely you could put changes to affect all skins in there? — Ebany 20:55, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hey all! I talked to the team about this, and they agree that it's not the best plan to modify default files on a case-by-case basis. They also think that removing optional skins is the way to go, but I'm not sure of the timeframe on this. I'll check and see if we're planning on doing it for the 1.15 upgrade or not. Sorry for the late response on this! -- Emily Diehl (talk) 22:32, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Protection
Protection still grinds the wiki to a halt. This one made the wiki inaccessible, and when it returned it was very slow. GW2W seems to be affected by GWW protections, but GW2W protections don't come with any slowdown. Quite odd. -- Brains12 \ talk 22:57, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
- That's really bizarre, Brains. I will pass this along again. I talked at length with the team about the report last time, but we weren't able to figure out what could have caused the issue. Google Chrome issues
I'm looking at the wiki with the default template of GWW, using Google Chrome. Now the menu to the left starts after the main content pane has ended, eventhough both are alligned at a different place of the page, i'm adding a screenshot. RedShadowHuntress 15:03, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

- I am using the most recent beta of Chrome (4.0.221.6), and I still have this issue. I understand that it has to do with how Chrome handles the HTML, but a problem on one site is not something Google is likely to fix, while the owners of the wiki could. It is interesting that it seems to only affect the GWW, not other MediaWiki wikis, as GWW uses the default theme. Prattmic 22:59, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Page whipe.
Sometimes when i save or preview a page i'm editing, it goes to the preview (even if i press save) and whipes the content, both from preview and the wikicode. - J.P.Talk 17:58, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Text not being saved (and getting a preview-like screen) can sometimes happen after some errors, but I'm not really sure what you mean by content being wiped. If it happens again, get a screenshot. Change all words "skin" to "Mesh"
For much of the wiki, the word "skin" which refers to the word texture, is used in the wrong context with many weapons, such as saying that two weapons have the same skin. This is not true, I think what the writer is trying to say is that the "Meshes" or "3D Models" are the same. The textures however are unique, also called "skins" in this case. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.103.196.14 (talk).
- This is not the place for this. This page is for reporting problems with the wiki software. I think you will find that the general terminology in most gaming communities is to call models "skins". I don't see this being changed wiki wide to a term that few people are going to recognize. -- Wyn talk 05:06, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

minor bug: timezone
After looking through the ten archives' section titles, I realized I'm very lucky to have almost never had a bug on this wiki, and none that didn't later resolve itself. However, there's one that persistently annoys me. The timezone always displays as UTC, no matter what and in what way you enter in Special:Preferences. If this is intended, and that setting really is irrelevant, it's just a little frustrating; on the other hand, if you're meant to have it display time in a not-totally-irrelevant fashion, I'd like to know how. | 72 (UTC) 00:47, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- In signatures and such the time is UTC and always will be. Signatures, and every other wiki content, are text, so it's impossible for the wiki software to convert those times on the fly for each user.
- The setting in your preferences only affects the dates on special pages such as your watchlist, recent changes, or a page's edit history. If you don't want to have inconsistencies, just set the offset to zero. poke | talk 08:27, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- Well, yes, it's pretty clear you can't mass-replace the text for each unique visitor. That's not the problem; the problem is that the setting in Preferences does not actually have any effect for me, not the latter half either (, regardless of what and in what way the setting is entered in that field). It continues to display UTC even where it is supposed to request the Preferences value. | 72 (UTC) 16:16, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

I have to log into Guild Wars and Press F10 to find my Guild on this Wiki, yet I cannot do it the normal way of logging in and typing the Knights Of Caerleon in the Search box, this brings up ZERO results, yet I can get to my Guild page via the game, what is going on with this Wiki? Slow GW2W
GW2W is taking ages to load/not loading at all. It's been like this since the database move finished yesterday. GWW seems to be fine, though. -- pling 16:13, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Can't upload a new version of an image
- → moved from Guild Wars Wiki:Admin noticeboard
I was trying to fix the image I use for my banner on my userpage and I keep getting this error:
"Bad Input | Problème de saisie | Problem bei der Eingabe
We're sorry - the server could not accept your request. Often this is due to too many characters such as "><|--;="' being used. Please try removing these characters or reducing your post size. If you still experience problems please contact NA Customer Support or EU Customer Support using the subject line ?Issue with official website?."
Never seen this happen before, and the Support it links is the direct NCsoft support line, which seemed to me to be a little much for a wiki problem. I am able to upload other images just fine it seems, just this one image cannot be reuploaded... Suggestions? --- NessHrin | 02:26, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- I have no idea what it is about, but have you tried uploading a different picture under that file name? If that works then I would assume that it is a problem with the file itself. If it doesn't work, you could try uploading that picture under a different name and then either changing the link on your userpage or moving the newly uploaded file to the old name (although you'd need to have the original page deleted first). Just a couple ideas off the top of my head. --Rainith 06:51, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, it must be the file. I tried uploading the same file under another name and got the same error. No idea what is wrong with the file, though. It has no different attributes than the previous version; all I did was remove a few pixels. So odd... --- NessHrin | 17:46, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Okay... whats up with the url?

- Same here. I guess that's what the database thing was about.--The Emmisary 21:54, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- it will clean itself up. I closed my browser and manually typed in the old url. Now, all the links return to the expected URL (most are relative, so if your current page has gtm, then so will any links you click). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:57, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- GWW's URL is fine for me, but GW2W shows the gtm thing. (By the way, I think GWW:BUG would be a better place for this.) -- pling 22:09, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Database errors
Getting database errors on (almost?) every page I visit. Pages load with the following message below page content.
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was: (SQL query hidden) from within function "SiteStatsUpdate::doUpdate". MySQL returned error "1213: Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting transaction (172.30.228.6)"

- Ditto, and also "Manifold my talk my preferences" etc look like they are written twice, one being slightly lower than other. Manifold 19:02, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the report, guys! I've notified the operations team and they're investigating now. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 20:22, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

- This seems to be happening again. -- Wyn talk 17:09, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- It's been happening to me on and off for some time now. I've just shrugged my shoulders and done something else while the page tries to load before this warning appears. One theory for me, not tested to rigorously, is that GWWT may have something to do with it, as the problem goes away when I've logged out. G R E E N E R 19:06, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Don't think its GWWT as I don't use it and I had this issue again today. --Rainith 21:04, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- I also don't use GWWT and got the same thing last night/this morning. - Tanetris 21:22, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yep, it's not GWWT. But my old friend, index.php is back. My comp says it's a Plain Text file, but it is zero kb, and I can't open it. Not sure why I keep getting offered it. G R E E N E R 00:37, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
