Remotely changing screen sizes

Is it possible to change your GW account screen size remotely? say, if you had to change from a 1600 X 1200 screen to an 800 X 600 screen. -chaoskirina

No, but you mind find the "-windowed" command line option to be helpful - for more info, see here: Command line. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 07:16, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

I don't get what you're talking about when you say 'remotely', unless you mean from another computer, but I don't know why that would be desirable. If you're in-game, you can use the F11 menu to change the resolution, as said above. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 18:15, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I was banned for vulgar language even though i was never warned thats not the problem im having ill take my punishment but im having a problem with the fact u dont have a problem banning vulgar language but yet people who scam new people get away with it thats just not fair.also there r people who just alwasy start bs with everyone in game yet they r free to keep it up y is this and why ban some people but yet not others i really think this is a crock and should be looked into Ihave names of a couple of people that scam new players if u would like them to see for yourself plz ask.Like i said im banned and really dont have a problem with it i do have a problem of you guys not banning Neurotic Rat for starting trouble with all on line and with Casie who scams new players of their items,if u r gonna bann for language then u should deffinatly ban others for scamming new people who dont know how to report

Thank you

P.S. im sorry if i sound like a poor sport about this but i really think it is unfair!!!!!!!! especially since i never got a warning

if your talking about in game, your telling the wrong people. most people here are other players.--Sumta 14:22, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

As for never receiving a warning, ArenaNet (I forget where this was, I think somewhere on GW.com) considers a twenty-four hour ban a warning. Calor (t) 19:32, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Just a comment, Richard, but people might be more willing to consider your point or even discuss it if you use a format that makes it easier to read and understand. There is a button on the bottom left of the keyboard above the control key which, when held down, allows you to Capitalize the beginnings of sentences. There are also a couple of buttons above the left alt key which allow you to punctuate your sentences. <<-- See that? It makes what I'm saying much easier to understand. I can handle people occasionally missing a capitalization, or maybe a punctuation mark, or even just having horrible spelling and grammar. At least they are trying. Sorry for the rant, just some advice on getting people to listen to what you say. Anon

I deleated some old char that i didn't play anymore and forgot to empty the invitory first is there any way to reclaim the chars I deleated?

Account question

moved from Help:Ask a game question

Hi there

I have just tried the demo of Guild Wars and loved it. I bought Guild Wars Game of the year edition tonight. Please can you tell me how I upgrade from a demo account to a full account as I have now bought the game.

Thanks --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:72.110.227.186 .

To add a key to an existing account, log into the account and then click the Edit Account button on the character select screen. Check Manage Access Keys, click Next, click Add Key and then enter the new key and click Next. After that, there is at least one additional confirmation step. -- Gordon Ecker 05:51, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
The access key article may also be of some use. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 10:26, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

GW:EN expansion

i bought the GW:EN expansion but i tried entering my access code but it's not working? See the code it doesn't have enough numbers or letters in eah box i cant move on to add it to mine. Anybody wanna help me and kinda walk me through what to do to install GW:EN and everything?

If the access code is too short, or if there are characters missing, there must have been a serious error somewhere. Try contacting support and inquire about it since sadly there's nothing we here can do to help. — Galil User Galil sig.png 23:38, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

My account is in use right now, but not by me

My brother also has a GuildWars account and he can see that my character is logged on right now. I was playing earlier in the day, had my account for about 1 1/2 years and this has never happened. No one knows the password except me. I don't know what is going on. Any suggestions? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:67.49.169.88 .

It's a bug. Ask your brother to try PMing that character and it will say "So And So is Offline". Just login and logout. — Eloc 01:47, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Nope, my account is in use by someone else, they must have gotten the password somehow and are playing, since they show up in my brothers friends list and they have changed one of my characters. They also have changed the password, so that I can't get in or change the password back. I need a new password right away emailed to the registered email address for the account. What is the fastest way to get this done? I am afraid that the person is raiding my account. Is there a way to suspend the account until this is sorted out?

Contact support immediately. - anja talk 17:16, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I have already opened a support ticket, but was wondering if there is a faster way. I am getting no response yet, and this is the 2nd day. The person is on-line right now. --

Support should be the fastest way to get it solved. No one here can do anything really, we're just players. - anja talk 17:30, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I feel pretty sick about this right now. --
Password Recovery? It will reset the password and send you the new 1 on your email. --MageMontu 18:54, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Even though it's sad when this happens, I believe support can roll back your account to the state before it got stolen. It's been done before, even world-wide a couple of times (remembers the time all runes cost 25g). — Galil User Galil sig.png 20:18, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Happened to my friend, except they couldn't change the password...took well over a week to got it fixed...which meant staying on her account 24/7 for about 10 days so that the hacker couldn't take anything else. Support is a joke. --Deathwing 00:54, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Umm, if someone logs into your account while you're logged in, you just get err7. — Eloc 02:07, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Just to give an update...I contacted support and they want me to send all the game keys to them to verify that the account is mine. What is password recovery? I have never heard of that. Is there a way to tell support that you forgot your password and to send it to you via email? That would solve it, except in the case that the "stealer" changed the email address, but then I would get a notice wouldn't I on the registered email address? Any other suggestions? Hopefully, once this is fixed they will be able to roll back the account to before this happened. --

Password Recovery: Click on Reset Password in the Guild Wars Login Screen. --MageMontu 08:08, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

They can't roll it back....and I hope you have the original copy of the CD-Keys, the actual paper, because that will need to be faxed to them, aswell as the original email that you got from when you made your account. --Deathwing 08:37, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Just curious to know if you downloaded any of the "add-ons" mentioned in the Modd section of wiki, or if you run an nternet site that could reveal your e-mail account name provided that you use the same account name for GW. Anyway, when I play online I have never more than 9 background process running at once, registery remote access as well as other 28 windows services are disabled on my computer whenever I install a version of Windows. I have a good laugh looking from time to time the Mr Watson log for many hints on failed attempts to remotely access my computer. • UPDATE*

Here is what happened. I sent in the keys and was able to gain control of the account again. It appears that it was hacked by someone in China, just guessing by the Chinese guild that the person joined in the international district. Here is the good part - in just over 1 week, the person created 2 characters, both level 20's, had elite skills and get this...over 250 thousand in gold. They deleted 2 minor characters that I had, sold my good armor and weapons - but with the huge amount of money dumped into my account, I end up better off than before. Very lucky. I still have no idea how the hacker got into my account and changed the password. I only play on a secure network, no key loggers, behind a fire wall and router. (My dad works in IT...computer was scanned and checked). Oh well..I guess it's all good now. Oh yah, I did check with support and they wouldn't roll back the damage done. In this case, that's ok. I guess the person thought that they would keep this account forever. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:67.49.169.88 (talk).

an acces-key question ...

Hi, My problem is this : I've just bought Eye o/t North trough the ingame store. Now everything went ok with the purchase, as my last screen told me & it gave me my ordernumber to right down somwhere safe. Did all that...but when or how do i get my acces-key for the game. Do i have to wait for an e-mail or something ? Perhaps you guys can shed some light on this...

If you've bought the expansion from the in-game store, the access key is automatically added to the account you logged in with, meaning you won't have to add it and are already able to play GW:EN. I believe a copy of the access key is also emailed to you. — Galil User Galil sig.png 20:15, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Ah thanx, all good now !

Account and multiple users

If my (insert realtion here) wants to use one of my empty character slots, can I install the program on their computer and let them log in with my account? --134.39.190.200 20:41, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Of course. The client, I believe, is a free download on the GW website. Just know that if Account User A is playing, and Account User B logs on, Account User A will be kicked off the server, because two users can't play the same account at the same time. Calor (t) 20:45, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
The client is indeed free to download, but again, you wouldn't be able to play at the same time. — Galil User Galil sig.png 20:52, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Also, sharing accounts is against the EULA. So it's possible, but not allowed. You're much better off just buying your (insert relation here) a copy of the game. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 21:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Wrong e-mail address

moved from Help:Ask a game question

I recently made a guild wars account. When I logged in, a box came up informing me that Guild wars was unable to contact the email adress I had given it earlier (refering to when I made the account). Then, I realized I put in the wrong email adress! I see that one of the options in the box that came up is to "change current adress", so I clicked on it, but nothing will happen. If someone could help me, that would be great.--76.122.140.43 20:41, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

First, don't post your e-mail account here. Second, the short answer is "nope, nothing can be done". Just find your key (it may be a black piece of paper that you need to open, and with the key inscribed inside; a plastic card that you need to scratch, etc).--Fighterdoken 23:39, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

What about being banned?

If I am banned (and I'm not), then what are the possible duration lengths of bans, and can someone be banned forever ever for forever fornever ever??? And ever??? (by that i just meant forever)--76.23.213.58 03:19, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Anywhere from 24 hours to forever. Calor (t) 03:24, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

What about being banned? 2

1. Sooo, being banned means I can't go on my account anymore right? Or just the characters? 2. If the whole account, then would I have to buy the game again for another access key to create another account, or use same access key? Or can I get my account unbanned somehow? 3. Or, if I get banned for good, does that mean my IP adress is banned, too, so I won't be able to play on Guild Wars at all on same computer? (unless I change my IP)

1. If you get banned, your entire account is banned. 2. You'd most likely have to buy the game again and create a new account. 3. No. They don't do IP bans since they can be dynamic or shared. — Galil User Galil sig.png 05:56, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm interested why you're so curious about this. A much better attitude would just to not take any action that could lead to you getting banned. :p Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 14:13, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't do anything that will get me banned, I'm just asking because I'm always affraid of getting banned, like if someone hacks my account and does bad things, so i just wanted to know, cause i definetaly dont wana try and get banned.

In that case, just read the EULA, and stick to it. :) Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 22:52, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

2 Accounts on 1 Network?

Hi :) My husband and I both our own copies of GW on our computers and they run great just as long as we both aren't on at the same time. When we are both on then we experience heavy duty lag and frequently get disconnected from the game. Is there something we can do to fix this? We prefer to play together rather than take turns. Thank you in advance. Ps...Our computers are connected through a network and we share a router to access the internet.

We have a network setup with two/three Guild Wars clients connected at the same time without problems on a 250kBit upstream DSL connection. It must be something with your network setup or your provider. Try checking your router settings. Morgoth Bauglyr 01:00, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
also is it wired or wireless network you guys have. wired is faster than wireless so try hooking up that other computer to a wired connection. and try to play at the same time.--話す priestess donut 寄付01:12, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Even wireless connections are much faster than the internet connection speed, so that isn't likely to make a difference. I'm not really sure why you're having problems if you've got a correctly configured router. What is your internet connection speed (upload is probably the limiting factor)? Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 01:52, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Hit F11 and turn down your Graphics/Soun quality. It will help to reduce the lag. Also, make sure you have nothing else open in the background of Guild Wars. — Eloc 01:39, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
It shouldn't have to do with the quality settings of each computer if the game runs fine as long as only one is connected. Morgoth Bauglyr 02:20, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Behold the network admin speaks: Wireless could very well be a problem. While its true that the bandwidth could be 11Mbps or higher, most often, the usable throughput is much much less. I was transferring files between two wireless computers last night and only achieved 60KBps. The second issue is uPnP. Make sure it is enabled on your router. While I've been able to run 4+ computers on one roadrunner connection without uPnP turned on, it doesn't always work correctly. -elviondale (tahlk) 02:58, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for all for the advice. We do not have wireless...But our router is actually in a modem and we are unable to adjust it...or so my husband tells me. Our internet speed is 3GB. I have turned down the settings and it did appear to help with the lag somewhat. We were able to play together this evening without too much trouble. Not sure what caused it but thank you again.

New Account

Hi again, My mate has a kinda simular problem as in question 19 of 2007. How does he aquire a new acces-key in order to play with an other e-mailadres, so that his son can play with the original account on the same PC offcourse. Does he need to buy it ?? and if yes, where and how ??

Yes, he does need to buy it. The simplest way, if he has a credit card, is to create a plaync master account (try logging into the in-game store, or use the online form), then go to www.plaync.com, log-in to the master account, and order an access key for a new account (not an upgrade to the existing one).
The other option that doesn't require a card is to buy a boxed set from a retail or online store, and use the access key in the box to make a new account (by clicking on "Create Account or Add Access Key" from the GW login, then "Create a new Guild Wars Account". Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 17:55, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't think that was his question
If you already have an account, there is no way to change the email, just logon and your away! If you want a new account follow the advice above. If you have a trial account then log on and there's a store button, or buy one at a shop RT | Talk 18:37, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm getting the impression that he's asking if he can get another email account to login to the same account so that two people can login to one account at the same time. Please press the send button to report this error!)But I Press Send error report But ArenaNet isn't replying and its been 2 days Help! Thanks Jake

I would:
  1. Check your system meets the system requirements.
  2. Check your computer is working OK (can play other games fine).
  3. Try running with any anti-virus guards turned off temporarily.
  4. Uninstall and re-install Guild Wars
  5. Try again.
Also, does it fail to start, or does this happen while playing? If the latter, how long does it take to happen? Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 20:20, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Although you input the error data to Anet...its just a collection process...don't expect a reply back. I would suggest going to www.guildwarsguru.com and go to the tech forum and make a post there. Most likely if you where playing it before you have some type of conflict going on...either video card memory or cpu issues. You might want to try uninstalling and reinstalling if you have a fast connection. --Coridan 12:17, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Nightfall trial question

Since my understanding is that unlocking skills is linked to the player's account, I'll ask my question here: I already own Prophecies and Eye of The North. I activated a trial for Nightfall and used my faction to unlock Crippling Slash. From here, I captured the skill from Fenrir in the GWEN expansion. My question is, will this skill be locked again when my trial for Nightfall expires? 24.211.124.251 14:35, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

First of all, capturing a skill unlocks it, so you wasted your faction there I'm afraid! Second, since Crippling Slash is a Nightfall skill, it will become disabled once your trial expires (GW:EN has no skills of its own). If you later buy Nightfall, you shouldn't have to unlock it again though. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 20:42, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Did you buy it in the ingame store? In that case the key is already automatically added to your account. --Morgoth Bauglyr 15:46, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
GW Store = In-game store. Martus, you need to talk to Durmand in Lion's Arch, Kamadan, or Kaineng Center to gain access to the BMP missions. Calor (t) 19:23, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

A question about trials

I own the original Guild Wars and I just got a trial of Factions, and I really like the Kuzich (spelling?) armor, but before I spend any money on it, if I buy it and my trial expires, will the armor begone? --24.7.141.45 02:01, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't think the armor will be gone, but any Factions characters you create will be inaccessible until you re-enable access with another trial key, or a full game key. It's probably best to save your in-game cash and add a full factions key to your account first. --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 09:11, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Banned

Okay, Yes, I did get Banned from GW. I have another 50 hours before I can get back online. I was just wondering if I can still use my same Characters. And if I have to buy the games all over again. (I wasn't Banned for the Name but apparently I used Racial Slurs... which got me Banned for 71 Hours) Thank You. 68.9.126.125 04:37, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Vicks Dunn

Did you receive any warning email? When it comes to offensive names, there are two ways they approach it: One, give you an one-time opportunity to rename your character; Two, they would delete it outright. It seems to depend on how they perceived your intentions when you gave your character such a name. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 06:21, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
I misread. If you got a temporary ban, when it's over, you can login and play as normal. Just bear in mind that subsequent bans will be much longer, and possibly permanent bans as well. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 06:22, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Okay i see. Thank You Very Much 28 hours left!!!!!

New Account

how do you create a guild wars account i have downloaded it but i cant get in and i havnt bought the game i just downloaded it off the internet and if anyone knows how to just create an account please send me a link to get there thx:P

See the text right underneath the login box that says "Create Account or Add Access Key"? Try clicking on that. You need to have bought a valid access key from a retail store or from plaync.com to create an account. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 13:06, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Email address changes

I need to change my email address. The one that is used is no longer mine.--168.103.231.143 17:59, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

You're not able too if you have looked at the online store. — Eloc 23:14, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Play Guild Wars in other country

Hi. I am going to have a trip to China. is it possible to play my EU Guild wars in there ?--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:217.43.62.36 (talk).

Costs

Is creating an account free? I'm a little confused regarding the cost of the game. I see that it costs money to buy the game... is there an account creation fee or subscription fee. I couldn't find the costs for these.--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:99.233.28.243 (talk).

Creating the actual account is absolutely free. Buying the physical game costs money. There is no subscription fee for Guild Wars, just the one-time cost of buying the actual game. CalorTalk 19:45, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
In order to play, you need to buy one of the three campaigns, or the PvP Access Kit (which only gives you PvP access, and no PvE content. After that, there are no subscription fees. Check out the Store article for the prices of optional products you can add to your account. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 19:53, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
