Old Friend

All grown up?

From PC Gamer:

Eye of the North ties up a lot of loose ends from the previous Guild Wars games, and fills out parts of the GW story that story that's been told through various campaigns. Apparently, you'll also encounter some old friends, like this one. Exactly who is this, you may ask? The only hint we're allowed to give is this: You met this person as a child in Prophecies.

And Rurik is the Great Dwarf, coming back from the dead again! :D Those clothes make Gwen look like a Mesmer or something, wouldn't be suprised if she ends up the 'Missing Mesmer Hero' and the Tapestry Shred, Broken Flute, etc, are for the quest to get her. Considering Nightfall allowed for 1 Hero of every campaign-specific profession and two of every core class excluding the Mesmer (Only had Norgu), so I'm hoping they balance that out. Regardless, I reckon by that picture she's probably a Mesmer. That is all PURE SPECULATION though for anyone who just skims through :P On a side note, wonder who they mean by the "other friends", could it be the Seers or Mursaat :o or King Adelbern even? --Blobulator 01:08, 23 March 2007 (EDT)

Spoiler?

I didn't have the chance to read the PC Gamer article yet but isn't the notion that Gwen will be in GWEN (lol?) a spoiler? I always knew back in the Prophecies days that in case ANet would bring her back, I would want to be surprised by it and not be spoiled. I thought maybe putting a spoiler tag up above this acticle here would make people like me happy since this is as of now primarily an article about the infantile Gwen. By putting a spoiler tag, we would be saying that there was something to be spoilt—therefore ruining the surprise anyway. Gwen For Mesmer Hero:aware:

Well looking at the picture of Gwen in GW:EotN (if that really is Gwen, dum dum dum) she looks like a mesmer. Also in Pre-Searing she Claims she wants to become a Mesmer too. Ah yes Mesmer :P silly me with the spelling. I'm getting the spelling mixed up with something else. I was thinking about some of the future heroes and thought of excisting plausable hero characters (e.i. Devona for warrior :o ) and I thought Gwen would fit the bill nicley. Seen as there is already a male mesmer and Gwen would even it out (comparing if the ascalon's chosen became heroes aswell the sex balance of the heroes evens out more) --Andyana 16:37, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

On second reflection, those button combinations are a combination in themselves, from the Nintendo 64 (C buttons and Z) and maybe the Gamecube, I believe the latter are most likely to be from the Sony Dual Shock controller, as Microsoft refer to the shoulder and triggers on the '360 controller as bumper & triggers. --Jamie 12:00, 13 April 2007 (EDT)

Gwen can't be a Monk Hero - we know there are only 10 heroes, one for each profession. Ogden is the monk and so any other hero has to be a profession not already taken. This also counts out Ascalon's Chosen as Pyre - Aiden, Mhenlo - Ogden, Devona - Jora (blonde butch *hides from Devona fangirl/boys* female warriors both?), Cynn - Vekk. I find it interesting there was never any or Ascalon's Chosen who was a Mesmer (we always had Durham (spelling?) - Perhaps the Devs had in their mind to make Gwen return as a Mesmer all along, which is why we never had the Mesmer Chosen). To me it seems logical Gwen fill this final place, also as she is born in Prophecy she also is a core profession, leaving Mesmer only (I didn't mention Eve before as I don't know her GWEN counterpart). Even if we didn't have Pyre etc taking the Ascalon Chosen's places, it would cause Havok going back to Tyrian missions with TWO Devonas! And poor Mhenlo and Jamei in Factions with two Cynns! Also note: NPC's which for one reason or another aren't available due a certain storyline event later on, see: Rurik - Frost Gate, Togo - Raisu Palace, Kormir - Weird Dancing God Mission, DO NOT appear anywhere as an NPC in town or as a hero/henchman etc in our curren accessable world. Reorganisation of this article

Right now this page is a total mess. The sections after the EoTN section truly belong as part of the prophecies article, not after the EToN page as surely there will be a lot of information on Gwen come release. Personally I think the best approach is to split this page into two Gwen (Pre-searing) & Gwen (Eyes of the North) then turn this page into a disambiguation page linking to the two other pages. --Jamie 07:04, 30 March 2007 (EDT)

I like that idea a lot. I would suggest naming them Gwen (Prophecies) and Gwen (Eyes of the North) instead of Gwen (Pre-Searing) - that would allow us to list things about Gwen outside of Pre-Searing, such as the Tattered Girl's Cape. Erasculio 09:19, 31 March 2007 (EDT)

One person should = one article. Also, the sections about "evil" Gwen don't belong in the Prophecies section, nor do they really have to be in the article at all - that was during beta, and has no relevance or bearing on Prophecies as played now.It is trivia at worst, or historical reference at best. To be honest I love the stuff about gwen from the beta, it is some great trivia and would like to see it stay. Also I agree with the article split. The reasons I have are:

• To have them in the same article would mean some major spoilers if you were just searching for information on the pre searing gwen
• It may be safe to assume that Gwen in EotN is going to have a fairly major role that could create quite a large article in itself. Speculation is preparation.
• Just because there is no president to do it like this, does not mean it is necessarily the wrong thing to do.

I also think the beta Gwen info is interesting, fun, and is fine in the article - but it isn't really Prophecies, if you get my drift, so should be on the tail-end of the article as an afterthought, not something relevant to the game today. Although I am still veering towards one article, I am waivering - it is very possible that EotN will force a second article. Let's face it, it isn't really specualtion - it is Gwen, we just don't know what role she will have in EotN. If she is a hero, for example, then she will definitely need an article formatted the same as eg Koss or Olias. I've tidied it up a bit, but removed all the quotes. I think that maybe a subpage is in order at Gwen/Quotes for:

• Quotes from when she is standing still behind the resurection shrine
• Quotes when she is following you around
• Quotes from the beta event
• (if she is a hero) Idle and battle quotes

I'm not fond of making a subpage for the quotes only. I think we should keep everything regarding Gwen in one or two pages (two being one for the little girl and the other for the possible hero in GW:EN). It's because she has so many, basically. Here are all the quotes from the beta event, here are her presear quotes, she also has a unique quote relating to each profession trainer and if she is a hero in GW:EN then she'll have idle quotes, battle quotes and a unique idle quote for every primary quest, too. Gwen is not an only child! (or, rather, the only child)

Gwen is the only child in the original Prophecies campaign (aside from the Wintersday NPC Katie) and so it is highly likely that it is, in fact, her.

The picture displayed in PCGamer clearly depicts an Ascalon-coloured female with flowers in her hair, which discounts Cheswick from that future role. I agree with the last post about searing but Cheswik MIGHT be in it. If you watch the GWEN trailer I believe it shows all the heros except the Necro, Dervish and Assasin, which will be in EotN. We already know 10 heroes, one for each profession. Pyre - Charr Ranger, Odgen - Dward Monk, Vekk - Asura Elementalist, Jora - Norn Warrior, this is speculation but Gwen has to be the mesmer. If you watch closely there is a scene with a small Elonan? boy weilding a spear against a Wolf - Paragon - MIGHT be Cheswik. In another scene is a female who's armour looks VERY similair to Ritualist armour only with weird allusions to the destroyers or titans, (see magma arm and equipment). Dancing Gnome

I honestly hope that Gwen is an NPC in Guild Wars: Eye of the North (if she's indeed to be in it) rather than a Hero or Henchman, which would make the reunion with her (assuming you're playing a Tyrian character) that much more poignant. I also hope that she's still a relatively-sweet person as an adult as she was as a child - much of that poignancy would be lost if she were to become a "kick butt, take names" type of person... the world of Guild Wars already has more than enough of those. -- Bananko 18:24, 22 April 2007 (EDT)

This is in response to a previous comment about Gwen staying a kind person...Remember the Searing? Her mother died, her homeland was destroyed, her tiny childhood world ripped apart, and then she was grabbed by a few running Ascalon Vanguards (to make Ebon Vanguard) and trotted off North to live side-by-side with the very creatures that destroyed the center of her world. That would be VERY hard on a child (i think she was 10) and now only 6 years have passed since her mother died. She's gonna have issues.... MAJOR issues because of that. Also she is now leading the Ebon Vanguard in her Captain's place so the stress and trauma would almost DEFINATELY rock her mind into a primal rage state. Actually they fled into the Far Shiverpeaks to live side-by-side with shapeshifting half-naked Vikings, and I doubt she accompanied the raids into Charr territory. Bad Grammar Usage

I think someone needs to fix the grammar used on this page. I think it would be better for the article to be written in the present tense. "If the player gave her a Small Girl's Cape, a Flute, and 5 Red Iris Flowers then she would give them a Tapestry Shred as a gift." I think this sounds horrible. "In Old Ascalon, Gwen's Broken Flute can be found, and up until recently, a Tattered Girl's Cape used to spawn in the Stingray Strand, all the way over in Kryta." There actually IS a quest for the "Broken Flute" found in pre-searing. There is NO quest for "Gwen's Broken Flute" found in post-searing. I have one of the most rare Gwen Items.......Tattered Girl's Cape. I had a conversation with Gaile about this item. She said something about a "Tattered Girl" sounding awful. I'm opposed to it. Look at Mhenlo; he's got a hefty bit of storyline about him, he spans all three campaigns, serves as an NPC and a hench... and it's all detailed in one article. No need to split the Gwen article, we can just make sections on the page. The good majority of what's taking up Gwen's page is trivia, not factual content; once EotN comes out and people stop spazzing about gwen, the article can be trimmed down to facts and histories instead of "omg gwen is sooooo popular!" -Auron 15:12, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm normally the same with that... I like to keep it so one person has one article on them. However, since it now looks like Gwen's going to be a hero, we'd need to include two infoboxes, idle and active quotes from childhood, idle and battle quotes from adulthood, as well as dialogue, recruitment info and armour info, all on one page. Given the fact that, although the same character, the two entities are very different, I think we should split to make it less messy and make the information more accessible. Although Mhenlo is just one character who appears throughout 3 campaigns, he is more or less the same all the way through. The difference between an adult Gwen and a childhood Gwen is so great that I don't think we can really organise it per the formatting guidelines and still have the information accessible and easy to understand. I am strongly against splitting this article, especially by campaign. That kind of designation is more appropriate for quests and characters who are not one, such as Hajok Earthguardian, The Afflicted Huan, Council of Elders, and Flesh Golem. The guys that have two articles are the ones that turn on the player and morph grotesquely, like Minister Cho who turns into Diseased Minister and those two guys in Prophecies. I would suggest that their alternate forms only have their own articles due to the spoilery nature of their transformation. Gwen's survival or lack thereof, on the other hand, is not a plot point in Prophecies. -- Dashface 08:49, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

The formatting is exactly as it should be in the guidelines. If we have one page for two NPC's, it would be haphazardly put together, no matter how carefully, and end up downright messy. As I see it, Prophecies Gwen is to Eye of the North Gwen as Prince Rurik is to Undead Prince Rurik, minus the dead bit. I think the cape aspect of this is a myth; someone gave her a cape and got the shred and supposes the cape had something to do with it. I got the tapestry shred from her and never gave her a cape. I allowed her to follow me after giving her the flute, and after 5 or 6 flowers she gave me the shred. 71.200.140.35 13:15, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Just adding in my findings.... I had just remembered that I had assisted a level 17 player get into the Northern area just before I had begun to feed Gwen all those Irises... and it was afterwards when I noticed that she had a cape, which I had not given to her. It then struck me that it's entirely possible that once you go outside with a character that had already gotten a Tapestry Shred from Gwen, you cannot get it for yourself. So I had wasted about 3 hours trying to wench an item from her that she had, technically, given to someone else already. =( --GreyGhost 03:39, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I want to get the Tapestry Shred from Gwen. When I got a flower I take it to Gwen. She wasn't gave me the Tapestry Shred after a lot os flowers. I bougth a Small Girl's Cape and 20 flowers and Gwen wasn't gave it to me :( after 60 flowers I gave up. I think the problem was that I gave them to Gwen one by one. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Kajtijoe (talk).

You may be a victim of Tainted Gwen. Did you team up with someone (probably to get rez signet) and after that Gwen has a cape and a flute with her which she didn't have before? I reported this a couple of months ago here. Also pls sign your comments ^^ --MageMontu 21:18, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
