Talk:The Catacombs
Finally...[edit]
... a reason for Rotscale's existence? And the (up till now) unenterable gate? Fox 09:01, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
- It would appear so. I always thought the tomb that Rotscale guarded was where the White Mantle unearthed the Scepter of Orr. Still, how the scepter got from an underwater wreckage to Kryta is a mystery. Maybe with the z-axis and swimming in GW2 we'll find out.
- There are a few other places that I expect to see more of, too :) I used to run sightseeing expeditions for my guild to help members get cartographer titles, and there are several "suspicious" locations around the game world.....Fox 10:06, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
- Ooh, I noticed another one of those tunnels in this screenshot of the Far Shiverpeaks, another region featuring in the Eye of the North. I know the Catacombs runs through to Orr, but it looks like it may extend to under the Shiverpeaks. Either that or the Asura must have dungeons like this and Sorrow's Furnace all over Tyria, Elona and maybe even Cantha... the screenshots of the Depths of Tyria here, here, and here seem to reflect the mysterious architecture found in the Altrumm Ruins, Urgoz's Warren, and The Aurios Mines. That would explain why parts of Ascalon look inexplicably similar to parts of the Echovald Forest... *writes all of this down* --Santax 11:03, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

Most of this page is assumptions and should be deleted[edit]
Basicly look at the title, most of this article is not facts it is assumptions bring your assumptions to a fourm or the talk page, the catacombs havent been mentioned since C1 So screenshots, unless accompined by an article are not facts. This is an official wiki not a place for assumptions i petition for a renewal of this page.
- Yea, I have to agree with you on most of that. Also, this page lists the Catacombs as being only in the Eyes of The North campaign, which as far as I knew wasn't even verified yet... not to mention the page fails to say that they are in the first campaign. I think this page needs a bit of work. ~ J.Kougar
- when i get home i'll send my mesmer thru the catacombs and document whats found there(bosses, monsters, and i'll try and get the map of it although that will be hard with out the red dots because the map resets every visit.
- Oh I have a well documented map that I'm more than willing to post here if you'd like, took it a while ago but have everything clear and such. Take a look at my Catacombs Map and tell me what you think. You can click the other versions below it. ~ J.Kougar
- use that one i think that is good enough. I may just use Guild wiki as a reffrence for monsters and semi bosses.142.161.69.157 19:19, 13 April 2007 (EDT)
- May I make a suggestion when removing speculative material from articles: Rather than it simply removed, can it be transferred to the talk page under a head? Surely a speculation is to be speculated upon collaboratively rather than being forgotten about? --IAmAI 18:39, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Large skeleton in the tomb[edit]
When I was doing the quest The Power of Blood on my necromancer I saw a large skeleton for what looked like a dragon underneath the metal bridge behind the third blood fanatic. It is fairly easy to access from Green hills in pre-searing, anyone got any ideas on that? Weaponmaster 09:05, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Looks like a dragon to me as well, perhaps a possible tie-in to GW2? MystiLefemEle 13:35, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- Just took a look for myself, Those are not the bones of one creature, but rather 4. There are 3 skulls and 4 sets of ribcages. In addition these are too small to be any of the Ancient dragons. Perhaps these are the bones of Glint's siblings. They certainly do seem to be Dragon bones... Hundred Blades 06:12, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Anezka's Drops[edit]
The following are the results of a survey of drops conducted by a player in December 2008, sorted according to the types of creature.
Skeletons[edit]
(From a survey of 424 skeletons killed)
- Equipable items 39.2%
- Collectable items 35.1%
- Crafting Materials 16.5%
- Gold 4.2%
- Nothing 4.0%
- Dye 0.9%
Gargoyles[edit]
(From a survey of 249 gargoyles killed, including Shatter Gargoyles)
- Equipable items 43.0%
- Gold 32.1%
- Collectable items 22.5%
- None 1.6%
- Dye 0.8%
Devourers[edit]
(From a survey of 118 devourers killed)
- Collectable items 40.7%
- Gold 31.3%
- Equipable items 28.0%
Arachnids[edit]
(From a survey of 97 arachnids killed)
- Collectable items 36.1%
- Equipable items 28.9%
- Salvage items 19.6%
- Gold 15.5%
Overall[edit]
(From a total of 888 monsters killed)
- Equipable items 37.6%
- Collectable items 32.4%
- Gold 16.9%
- Crafting Materials 7.9%
- Nothing 2.4%
- Salvage items 2.1%
- Dyes 0.7%
Players should bear in mind that the sample sizes are very small, particularly Devourers and Arachnids, and that because I didn't find Dyes, etc, dropped by them, it doesn't mean they won't. If anyone wishes to contribute to this, please send me the collected data and I'll input it into my spreadsheet and update the above survey. I also plan, eventually, on completing the same type of survey for all areas in Pre-Searing Ascalon. Also, the "nothing" drops seem to be mainly among the first creatures I come across upon entering the zone. Anezka 21:08, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- You might want to consider setting up Drop Research pages for the areas you are studying. This would allow the community to directly add their data, rather than having to send it to you. Example Zaishen Chest/Drop rate -- Wyn 11:06, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Bladed Aatxe[edit]
90.215.195.146 is constantly in a revert war over this Bladed Aatxe. Can something be done about it, rather than him and JonTheMon reverting it back and forth every day.- TheRave (talk) 22:02, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Wall paintings[edit]
The article states that there are various depictings of the gods of tyria... I only seem to find paintings of Grenth. Can someone provide a screenshot of a wall painting of a god that is NOT Grenth? Otherwise, we'll have to edit that part. Pastafarian Hunter 09:17, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- I should be able to find some of em will put em up when i do Tenri 19:29, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- I've been able to capture some of the Grenth murals, though.

- Should we add these to the page as well? Pastafarian Hunter 13:55, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Is Jermjerm93 onto a good idea?[edit]
That is, including the Vanguard quest spawns? If so, we should at least include a note about them being conditional spawns. Cynique 15:23, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
- OK, I'm behind the times. Now we just need the necromancers as well... Cynique 15:25, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Bug? or intended?[edit]
The second res shrine will not activate if you go to it (Barridan estate entrance). so if you die anyplace in there you'll go back to the shrine that is closest to where you entered from. This is trouble some for vanguard quests or any quest that takes place in there that you need to explore the whole catacombs. This is a bug and is so infuriating when you have to walk for 10 minutes to get back to where you died. I know its too late into GW's time for the devs to fix it now, but why has it been overlooked for 7 years?Yumiko ^,~ 01:13, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- Do you mean the one that is clearly broken and non-functional? And in pre-Searing, rez shrines do not "activate" in the same way as they do in other regions, so I'd say it's not a bug, because it is clearly meant to be the way it is. Cynique 03:18, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- That said, they still show up on the map. If they aren't supposed to be active, then why were the icons included on the map?124.171.224.173 06:40, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm. I just checked the one by the entrance from Green Hills. You're quite right. Sounds like a bug to me. They should not be marked on the map, but the presence of the (broken) shrine in the zone is not automatically a bug, in that they might be meant to be that way, in the same way that rez shrines in shared mission/explorable zones (like e.g. Drakkar Lake during the Nornbear quests) are activatable when the zone is an explorable, but not when it's a mission.
