Talk:Wintersday 2010
Yay First![edit]
My first wintersday event, I could not join last year, so I am stoked at this year festival Happy Christmas people, see you in game-Wracken 22:31, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
- This is my first comment on the Wiki, and I hope I'm doing it correctly. It's also my first Wintersday event, and I'm really excited about it! Already running through the different towns, checking things out. It's great! Happy Wintersday, everyone! TheGizzy 02:31, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

- hmm, a paragon hero with a bow. Now lets hope they programmed him so he is great at pulling small groups of enemy's or bosses (so I can be lazy enough to not equip my longbow). but to be serious. I use a paragon hero often. but only one to support my ele and my hero ele's Searing Flames. But you only need one right? The whole paragon class is designed to be a "party leader". so what is the use in having 3 paragon hero's? Specially when they put the 7 hero thing in (crossing my fingers that they meet common sense and don't do it). there are more better professions that deserve to have more hero's if they are stupid enough to put the 7 hero thing into the game.82.170.196.12 01:41, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

- Imba is ridiculous. It's a meta game build that doesn't work against armour ignoring damage. Don't forget. I play Paragon inside and out, and I love the idea of a third Paragon hero. If you're creative and know your stuff on the game (Instead of putting down stuff you're unfamiliar with or unintelligible about), it opens up the potential to some very killer Paraway team builds. I'm sorry ANET broke your hearts and didn't introduce ANOTHER spirit spammer or ANOTHER discord spammer. Oops. I find that only people that have not the skill to play Paragon, often put them down. Call it what you want, but that's how it is. Fact is fact. Ardangoeswiki
- Even as broken as the Paragon is, you can still find very effective builds for them to play. If you know what you're doing, of course. Which alot of people don't. Players these days are dependable on meta. And people need alot of stuff simplified for them, and made easy. Damn, the crowds this game attracts seem to be going Dooooooown-hill. Ardangoeswiki
- And for all the people that just *magically* got interested in Paragons because DoA Glaiveway got popular, and people find the "Save Yourselves!" shout the bane of Paragon existence, these Paraway team builds are great, for 4-para teams, or even 8-para teams with a buddy. Highly recommended to check it out. Ardangoeswiki

New Pet[edit]
Looks like this year they've gone all out & given us the Invisible Jingle Nada :( 208.78.249.160 06:26, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Murro[edit]
Where's Murro? I need my WiK quests! :P Sjeng 18:04, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- you dont need murro to do WiK, hes just there to point you in the right direction if you cant think what to do, if unsure just follow chart on wikiSpark-TBa 22:52, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- I know, but I keep losing track of where my characters are, because most of them started with WiK before Murro gave the quest pointers. And now I'm kinda lost, so I really do need his guidance ;) Sjeng 11:09, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- Murro was added to the game to make things easier: TWiK allows you to skip some ponderous dialogues, rezone a bit less, and be able to track progress in-game (esp. helpful when following the story-line across multiple toons). So, sure, he's not required, but...
- FYI Sjeng: I've posted a note on Feedback:Bug reports/Quest bugs. You can also report this to support (often, ANet responds more quickly to legitimate issues if there are independent pings from multiple sources). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:41, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Rift Wardens[edit]

Charm Jingle bear or White jingle moa??[edit]
Is there going to be those two animals in eye garden, if so what quests gives it, If its a quest called wintersday cheer, Its not avaible as I cannot find it anywhere in Eye nor can i find Thankerty to talk to him, Have checked with various characters those that havent beaten prophacy or eye and those I have completed WiK. I hope this isnt an omission of charmable animals this year. otherwise towns and quests look good :)

Is there a way to make it so these spoilers only reveal if you scroll over them? I've seen movie websites with the same thing set up. - So... staffs? How do we supposedly get those (cant read German)?--Neithan Diniem 16:54, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- Unknown. They just found the weapons in gw.dat. It's entirely possible that those items were made for NPCs during the wedding and won't be available to players, ever. The existence of inventory icons may suggest otherwise, but that's just speculation. Tub 17:21, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- So, one event is down and if these weapons are obtainable during the event, someone should have info about how do to just that. Anybody? --Musha 09:59, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
- The past showed that ANet usually does not create inventory icons for things they don't think you will ever have in your inventory. When mantle guys were given their new weapons, icons were added as well, although the wand you can buy looks different and there was only one bow model. BTW: Did anyone see the wands during the wedding? --numma_cway 15:00, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

- Folgende Waffen, die auf einer roten und weißen Rose basieren, wird es aller Voraussicht nach irgendwann in der nächsten Zeit geben:
- these weapons, which are based on white and red roses , will be given to the players at some points (I'm dutch not german, so don't flame for the translations plz)
- In addition to this it's to be assumed there is a new focus in form of the bouquet with petals falling down from it, which Gwen held in her hand during the wedding. --The Holy Dragons 12:03, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Lyssa[edit]
It is do to much lawling that i am posting this. Anyone wonder why Lyssa is not included in this, I mean she is a god right? Either shes off training Kormir in how to be a god or people realized shes two faced and didn't want her help.. any and all ideas appreciated..Ampkingomega 18:35, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
- Costumes, to keep the sides even with 2 vs 2 and how would Lyssa even fit in. Maybe we will see some of Lyssa and Kormir later on, let's just have some patience with that one. Damysticreaper 18:43, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
- Grenth -> Ice, Death.
- Balth. -> War (-death).
- -
- Dwayna -> Life, Air
- Melendru -> Nature (life&air)
- -
- Lyssa -> Illusions, Water (after abbadons fall)
- Komir -> Knowlage (after abbadons fall)
- Neither of the bottom two have any familiar element with the dwayna vs grenth battle of spring and winter.--Neil • 18:52, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

- Maybe somewhere during canthan new year or winds of change a Lyssa costume will arive since Lyssa is the matron of the assassins. Well Grenth being the Patron of the ritualists i doubt he will get another costume so Kormir will be the counter part of that (altough i doubts it is a costume i will like...knowing Kormir has an afro).
- Eh Kormir would be a suckish costume seeing as how she is wearing plain old para armor, and we dont need another skirt for guy chars (unless kilts are implemented)My hope is that even though Abbadon is a fallen god they will make a costume of him, mainly cause the whole six eyed mask he wears...Ampkingomega 22:55, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

- Lyssa could still take a side. Think about it, if Kormir took a side it would be 3 gods vs 2 gods. Thus, Lyssa would HAVE to take a side to balance it out. She is goddess of balance, after all. 76.208.24.202 20:31, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

CC shards for finale[edit]
Hey, its my first finale in a long while. I know I should save some shards for the hats, but approximately how many will i go through if I do every finale? I'm trying to max my lucky title so I want to make sure I dont miss this opportunity. Thanks! Ascalon Destroyer 06:47, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- In previous years, 250 shards bought you a hat. But, if you participated in a finale, the winning god would donate their version of the hat (no cost). This year, it wouldn't surprise me if it's changed; quests rewards W'Gifts instead of C'shards, so they might also have changed other requirements. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 07:23, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- If you're talking about the CCs for the finale game (the nine rings ripoff), the last years it was 1 shard per round, 15 rounds per finale. And you'll usually win more shards than you pay. It's a very poor way to get lucky points though: you get 1 point per shard won, thus 10-20 per finale. You could spend that time farming gold, buying a lockpick, finding a lowlevel chest and getting 250..
- On that note, I hope that the length of winter is determined by the finale, not by the snowball fight of the gods. With all that farming on grenth/balthazar's side, we'd have winter until 2017. Tub 15:05, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- I lol'd ofcourse it's not determined by the snowball fight! :D --The Holy Dragons 15:14, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- Note that there might be other items awarded during this Wintersday finale in addition to festival hats, (see this spoiler section if you want more information) which may require more shards. --Silver Edge 20:37, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- 4 hats were given in Wintersday 2006. Get ready to travel to 2 finales and align with 2 Gods at each... 66.170.212.17 14:13, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Wintersday[edit]
"It wouldn’t be Wintersday without festive costumes!"
Yes it would, it had been for years you fucking crooks. How stupid are you? Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 15:08, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- If you are unaware, the costumes which have been added to the game are optional. Since Anet does not force you to give them money for items which do not affect gameplay, calling them "crooks" is rather fallacious. G R E E N E R 17:15, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- In my opinion complaining about costumes of how they look and that you have to buy them is ridiculous. If you don't like them don't buy them if you don't want to spent money funding GW2 again don't buy them. If still bought them just because other people do you i have one thing to say to those people: You idiots.
- People should not complain about stuff wich is completly optional to get and simply serves as a method to fund GW2 as well as giving characters (depending on your taste) a nice look.
- If you guys don't like that idea seeing it as taking money from players, would you want GW to end up like WoW paying to play the game?
- So far aditional items optional to get for players in-game sure beats paying money to play the game like WoW so stop complaining about such trivial matters.
- Costumes are just an optional part of the game accept it. Damysticreaper 18:33, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- "you don't want to spent money funding GW2" Too fucking right. --Neil • 18:42, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- It was my impression that these were used to fund the GW1 Live Team, not the development of GW2. WiK, HotN, WoC - there's a lot of work (thus money) behind those, yet we all got it for free. They want to refinance that by offering us some optional, fancy costumes, and people start to complain?
- We all just paid a fixed amount of money on the game, without monthly fees that cannot finance indefinite development. So at some point there's only three options for ANet: a) no more content updates, b) forced paying (i.e. make us buy a box to unlock WoC as an expansion), c) optional paying in the form of some costumes that hurt nobody (unless they're pink, but that's a different story).
- Would those that are complaining really prefer option a) or b)? Personally, I'm glad there are people around who buy those costumes, it gives me free content updates. Tub 19:33, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

- "Company aren't people, Salome. Anet isn't a person. It has no personality or sense of self, it's just a company." A company cannot exist without the people that work for it. The people that work for it subsequently give that company a personality, morals, and a sense of self. Personality through how the company does it's business, morals through the boundaries the company sets for itself, and a sense of self through the company being lead forward in self preservation through business transactions. Don't worry though, we didn't expect you to know that.--Neithan Diniem 17:02, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Even to Odd, which is which!?[edit]
As tradition from previous Wintersday events, the districts in LA/Kamada should be that Odd = Grenth, and Even = Dwayna. In addition to that, I don't understand why some incompetent people are in Dwayna on an odd district, and vice-versa. Let's hope the community fixes this issue, otherwise we'll have a Wintersday Redux, and a delay with the live team for Winds of Change and/or GW2 updates. Captain Armin 08:34, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

- Take a look when you arrive in a district. If folks are on the wrong rings, politely request that they move (in all chat). If they don't, switch districts before the event starts. There's always been confusion around this (esp. since it works differently during other holidays). - Illumine, not sure where or when you checked, but both LA and Kamadan's international districts alternated appropriately for the first event, and Kamadan did the same for the second. - When I was hopping districts in Kamadan at five minutes to finale the first three odd in international/english were stacked on Dwayna, so I hit America and saw the same thing; ended up actually getting an odd on Grenth when I started randomly picking odd districts from the list (it was 59, for what it's worth) 72.230.201.43 11:43, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

- The point is: you can choose a district that has an obvious majority standing where you want. If you don't like what you see, switch. If you're AFK, it shouldn't matter that much; everyone gets post-contest presents. - I had no problem being in an even district and getting a dwayna hat, and an odd district getting a grenth hat. As for there being a redux, I wouldn't count on it, unless there is a major server crash or other act of god. I believe that there will be a Wintersday hat collector guy that will give you a hat for cc shards after the finale if you have missed it, which resolves any "upset". Whats wrong with the fact than some people are simply just not interested in respecting "the tradition"? I see everyone complain, saying arrrgh you're not on the good ring! Noob its supposed to be dwayna on this district, you dont respect the wiki "code" ect....Every player have the right to make their own choices, choose the god they want to support and also choose to dont f.. care about what its "supposed" to be. And btw, its a game, a fight between gods to know wich one will have more supporters, when everybody is on one ring and than, you know wich one will succeed, where is the fun? For the people for who its so important to follow the "rules", maybe you could just make a petition asking to Obama to pass a law saying than wiki is the new civil code and you should follow exactly everything it content.Lammilia 08:23, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- But see, that's the problem in the Guild Wars community period. There is no more respect for tradition or how things have BEEN for years in Guild Wars. Why now all the change? This game has went to S..., and very fast too. Why is it so F.... important for people to "Defy tradition" or "Change it up"? Why not just do what we've all been doing for years now? I'm not for this 2010/2011 Neo-GW Generation Bulls.... But, shoulda seen this one coming. Ardangoeswiki
Without change, we dont grow up, simply. When you follow all the "rules", you become a little sheep and at one point, you'll not think by yourself anymore, if its your choice, cool, everyone have the right to be free to do what they want and also be what they want. The important is to let others to be free too.Lammilia 20:55, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Save your new-age hippie bullshit philosophy for the pot circle. This isn't the Dead Poets Society. Chinese and Japanese cultures are FULL of tradition and they're some of the oldest, deepest, richest cultures in the world. That's right, they grew up just fine. And rules CREATE order and freedom. But this isn't about rules anyway, so stop the Robin Williams act. I want to know what idiot started the LA/Kamadan thing. The fact is that the Guild Wars community for the past 5 years has established a simple, fair way to do things on Wintersday. There's no reason AT ALL to do it any other way. The even/odd system works for EVERYBODY, while the LA/Kamadan system works ONLY for people who have BOTH campaigns. My second account almost wasn't able to get the Dwayna hat because it doesn't have NF and because you "upset-the-established-order" types had to do it a different, less efficient way. Knock it off! Next year, we're doing it even districts for Dwayna, odd districts for Grenth. --Musha 23:02, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

- @Lamilia: If standing in the wrong ring in a computer game is the kind of rebellion our (my) parents went through the sixties to achieve, then they surely failed. Destroying a well established and smoothly working tradition to ensure that everybody get the hats they desire is not rebellion or expression of free speech. It's either ignorance or stupidity. For the sake of my continued belief in the human species I have decided that this was just ignorance and that we should be better at spreading the word next year.--Manassas 10:48, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Anomaly: Districts created after the event has ended did not receive any hats.[edit]
Does this really need to be stated as an anomaly? It happens every year, for every single event, and will most likely continue to happen for every single festival finale from now till the end of time. Silavor 08:48, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
I don't understand how this is an anomaly ... why would you recieve a hat if you weren't there until the event had already ended? Eastern Blade 09:57, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

No Grenths Districts in Kamadan[edit]
I have been working my way through all of the odd districts in Kamadan, but have so far failed to find one supporting Grenth. It appears that the convention is being disregarded, so anyone without Prophecies is unlikely to get both hats. 82.35.227.163 15:06, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

I had to check about 20 different districts in Kamadan American until I managed to find a Grenth district (25). Maybe in the future we should make a wiki announcement big and bold about it. Exactly! Nabs could choose to be nabs and risk be called nabs, sheep could choose to follow the shepherd and potentially be called sheep, also other might choose to do whatever and support the god they like or the hat they already saw on the spoiled .dat and just go for it and risk being called whatever by some of the others, one may also choose to just use the shards on the hat giver. That's all sweet, now the nabs were nabs but had fun or so it seems, the sheep tried to find the missing shepherd and appear not to have had much and ended up being upset, some others maybe did wtf they wanted and / or used hat giver for the remaining hat if they cared or maybe not. Almost everybody happy save for the upset sheep. Then again, a matter of choice. 08:08, 3 January 2011 (UTC)Beleeth 08:09, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

- I think it's extremely odd to blame a group of people (and further to label them "asshats" or "sheep") for things not being as organized as usual. There are many players that have either never heard of this custom, or have forgotten it, and either just headed to a random circle and went afk, or went wherever others seemed to be. Most people don't really pay as much attention as they are being given credit for here. There's no "blame" to be assigned here, just some inattention and indifference.
