Those Skill Images?[edit]
Did you go and retouch the ones that had crappy large versions? If so, I'd love to get a copy of all your fixes for my files :D. --Star Weaver 23:42, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm doing it right now, yeah. I can't do all of the ones that need it because I can't find icons for them, but I'm doing the ones I can (which is most of them). I'm uploading the ones I've done, so if you need one just check the big version to see whether or not I've done it. I'll post here again when I've finished. --Jette 23:44, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, I think I'm done. I might do others later if I stumble upon them (especially Blood is Power, it's like the Holy Grail of undersized icons), but for now that should be it. --Jette 02:26, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- I downloaded all the ones that were in your upload log, and boy howdy that was a pain. Nice. (Your axe rake is a little strange compared to the pixly one I have; mine looks like pixelated bleeding, yours has "ow my leg is missing parts" going on.) Anyway, now I have the problem of, all my other icons are a different size than these, and they all have borders. This could get kinda annoying; I'm already thinking of doing a mosaic of these for a wallpaper :). Is there some place to get the wiki's version of all of these at once? I'm not about to do it manually, and I don't want to pester the servers with a script or anything either, so ^_^. Thanks! --Star Weaver 22:56, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hm. You can get them from this guru post if you like, but they have a small silver border along the edges. I always crop that out when I make mods or anything. Also, those are at 254x254 or so, whereas mine are at 128x128. If you don't want to use those ones, then you can go here and get them yourself from the skill card packs. --Jette 23:22, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, the silver border guru ones are the base set I have. I've got the SP decks laying around on my drive somewhere too, (it's dusty and full of grues), so I might try that. I'm just a little confused cause I 'thought' the guy on guru got the 254px+border size directly off the cards, but all the GWW ones are 256 without border -- did they get resized for that? O_o.
- Thanks for the work on restoring the pixeltastic ones though. It's more of a PITA then i CBA to do. ... mmm, gyros. --Star Weaver 05:07, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Damnit, now I'm hungry. Anyway, I really haven't the foggiest, you'd need to ask the people who did it. --Jette 08:10, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

large Death Nova icon[edit]
you uploaded the beta icon again :P —ZerphaThe Improver 13:28, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, a lot of the large icon files are beta icons. :/ There are no xbox hueg versions of the in-game icons of some skills, so I had to use the older beta icons. You can revert them if you think it's important, but a lot of other skills use icons that aren't in game too, like deflect arrows. --Jette 20:51, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- well, uploading them is certainly not a bad idea, yet i think they should maybe uploaded under a slightly different name since the large image of the skill icon used in-game should be located somewhere as well. (unfortunately i have no idea which disambiguation would be useful for the icon you linked to. that doesn't look like a beta icon, rather like one from factions or eotn) —ZerphaThe Improver 21:29, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
"anti-authoritarian, anti-establishment"[edit]
So instead of lumping all the power in one dude, you spread it out among all the stupids? (No, I've not read the rest of that yet. I was actually about to remove my comment when you posted.) -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 01:26, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

- Well, the idea is to spread power among people who aren't idiots, rather than give it to one person. Obviously if you're giving power to stupid people, you're doing something wrong. It's human nature to abuse power that can't be checked, look at what eventually happens every time you put somebody in charge with no restrictions. I lol at anybody who tries to tell me what to do/what not to do on the internet, because the only way anyone can attempt to enforce those rules is getting butthurt and banning me and/or removing my comments. Also, I am male. Some people think my name is French, with that soft J or whatever it's called. It's not. It's pronounced like the aircraft, the -te was tacked on to make it seem sophisticated or something. I don't remember. --Jette 04:12, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Classic GW (when men were men)[edit]
Depending on the time, I'd like to do it. I actually have two builds that I use today in PvP that only use core and prophecies skills. Just one question, can Melandru's Resilience be used? It used to be just +3 hp regen, instead of 4, and it didn't last as long, or had a longer recharge (I think it was the recharge). Other than that, I think all the skills I use haven't been buffed that much. StatMan 18:09, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- Resilience is fine. Honestly though, I have no idea when this is going to happen, or how we're going to do it -- considering how much GvG has changed, everyone may just want to do a series of big 8v8 fights by picking a big open hall like the Imperial Isle and killing off all the NPCs before anybody starts. When I said significantly buffed, I meant things like Peace and Harmony, Incendiary Arrows and Thunderclap, things that have been so buffed that they're no longer really comparable to their old versions. --Jette 18:18, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

- "German acronym of Fliegerabwehrkanone"
- "Fliegerabwehrkanone"
- "abwehrk"
- I don't see a C in there. The "flack" spelling, while technically correct, is a bastardization of the original German acronym, most likely created because so many people spelled it wrong in the first place. Now, I don't really care how you spell it, but it annoys me for some reason. Also, my version is shorter anyway. --Jette 20:33, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

maybe this was once intended for the quest The Cold Touch of the Past, since the staff seen on the icon somewhat resembles the Staff of the Mists. —ZerphaThe Improver 12:42, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- That's what I thought as well. Can't be sure unless we ask somebody though, and I can't even work up the motivation to write a letter to the artist for the originals (he has all of them, apparently). You could always ask somebody, though. --Jette 12:47, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

I would assume you can contact him through teh forum, but I hate having to write long messages as it is. Carpal tunnel, you know. --Jette 13:50, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- well i would write a message to the accordant artist, the problem is that i don't know the artist (since i don't have any clue where you got the large icons from either) —ZerphaThe Improver 12:57, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Guide to modifying in-game graphics[edit]
Because you're wording is horrible and you are calling virus scanners bad and they suck. If it was worded half-way decently, I would have left the edit. What is written there in the first place was sufficient. — Rappy 20:27, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- The wording is fine, the problem is that you don't like it when I call a program bad, even if it is. A virus scanner that detects problems where there are none and blocks its user from using perfectly legitimate programs when there is another option available that protects just as well without any of the BS is the definition of "bad." --Jette 00:00, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- Virus scanners don't scan for what programs intend to do. A high percentage of programs that alter the way another program runs are viruses/trojans. I have had virus scanners in the past that treated TexMod as a virus, and that same program found legitimate virus on my computer than other so-called better programs (in your words) didn't find. Also, you were basically calling people idiots if they had a virus scanner that treated TexMod as a virus. "you should be smart enough to have a good scanner, right?" I've reworded it to say what you were trying to say in a nicer fashion... — Rappy 02:16, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- Alright. For the record, though, my scanner has never once picked up TMod as a trojan/virus despite using heuristics. Perhaps, in the end, it's a matter of personal preference, but I haven't gotten a single virus, malware, or anything similar in the 2+ years I've used the software. --Jette 02:19, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- It really depends on your scanner, yeah. Better virus scanners have better heuristics. All heuristics is is basically an educated guess, some virus scanners are less educated than others and so they make worse guesses. I've never had a problem with TexMod, then again I use the best virus scanner there is (NOD32). DarkNecrid

A long time ago, in a GW far, far away..."[edit]
When fc and nf came out, Guild Wars have become something different... not a simple addictive mmorpg, but more likely a game where you have to make your build, your strategy.

making a good product is *how* you exploit dumbshits -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 17:20, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- That depends on your definition of "exploit" and "dumbshit." When I buy 30 pounds of cheezy poufs from the store, I may or may not be getting "exploited." I like cheezy poufs, so I don't feel ripped off or enticed into a really stupid short-lived gimmick. On the other hand, they cost more than a dollar to the pound, so the company is getting richer. At what point it goes from "mutually beneficial transaction" to "someone getting screwed" is really quite subjective. --Jette 17:23, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

- That's not a personal attack, that's a broad-spectrum attack. A personal attack would be if somebody said "Jette is a faggot." An obvious subversion of NPA would be "People who use smileys in their signature are faggots." What I said applied to a wide group of people, and though the poster I was speaking to later admitted to belonging to that party, I was in no way directing at him. I will refrain from it in the future, however. --Jette 18:31, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Why is it[edit]
that when I save an image in .jpg format, all those little pixels in shades of gray appear, and how do I get those to go away? -- Tha Reckoning 08:34, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- Because JPEG images are bad. Use PNG, it's lossless. As for how to get them to go away: you can't, basically. Saving at a higher quality prevents them from being as bad, but it's still a lossy image format. I use Topaz Vivacity's DeJPEG feature to remove artifacts from images, but it's faaaaar from a perfect method, unfortunately. JPEG exists because when it was invented, it needed to exist -- a digital camera could hold maybe one or two pictures at once before running out of inventory space. JPEGs were designed so that you could actually use a digital camera, instead of having to bring like twenty memory cards or whatever. This was during a time when a hard drive could hold 32MB if you were lucky, and the concept of anyone ever needing -- or having -- a gigabyte of space was just ridiculous. Times have changed, however, and the JPEG format is an obsolete format that exists mainly because it exists -- it doesn't need to exist anymore, but because so many people who use it do not understand how it works or what it was designed to do (specifically, realistic photography, not art, text, or anything else), they use it anyway for the favorable compression ratio it yields.
- In 2000, the Joint Photographic Experts Group (which is what JPEG stands for) introduced JPG2000, a significant improvement from the traditional format with less annoying artifacts and a considerably better compression ratio, as well as support for lossless compression. You can count the number of images saved with it on one hand. It wasn't picked up and used because it wasn't needed anymore -- hard drive space is piss cheap now, I can get a 4TB drive for about 100USD at Best Buy, and that's a huge markup over how much it costs to make it. Bandwidth is cheap too, everyone has broadband, which is an exponential increase in speed over 56K.
- Topaz is licensed software, which means you'll have to buy it to use it. I just pirated it, if there's an image you need me to patch up just upload it somewhere or send it to me and I'll see if it can be salvaged. --Jette 08:49, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- Man, I remember those days. I still have a game or two lying around that recommended 32 MB of RAM for heavy-duty multiplayer (and amazingly enough I can still make it lag). -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 06:07, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Also, bitmaps are just as good as pngs, but have faster write times (and take up more space, but you probably have 500+gb on your HD so what does it matter?). Sometimes png transparencies get messed up with texmod, and I have to switch to bitmap to fix it. ~Shard 05:17, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- I usually use .tga files when .png is screwing around with me. They're bigger, but I think they handle transparency and stuff better than png do. I might try bitmap again sometime though, and I should see what happens when I try to put an APNG into GW. Probably nothing special, but psychedelic graphics would be sweet if it works. --Jette 10:47, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

The two (and a half, and an unknown part of one) tiers of Magic[edit]
- T1 - Vintage (eternal format) [this means that its card pool doesn't shrink in times]
- Legal (allowed)
- Almost all cards, unless part of the ante theme or listed under banned/restricted lists
- Restricted (only once per deck)
- so-called P9 (Power Nine). The 9 ultimate instruments of mana and card draw control
- Nearly all first or second turn win combo cards
- Card quality control cards
- Banned (disallowed)
- Ante theme cards
- Special cards made for fun
- Un-serious sets
Huge seed capital. Fast play. Small player base.
- T1.5 - Legacy (eternal format)
- Legal
- All cards from turn 4~5 to ∞ victory
- Restricted
- Restricted only exists for T1
- Banned
- Ante theme cards
- Special cards made for fun
- Un-serious sets
- P9
- Most (excluding most non-black card control) restricted cards of T1 in general
Medium seed capital, almost no further investment. Medium to slow paced game. Huge player base.
- T1.X - Extended (limited format) [limited formats have a temporary card pool changing with each block]
- Legal
- All cards of the five newest blocks (consisting of 3 sets each)
- All cards of the two newest core sets
- Banned
- Highly over-powered cards which allow Legacy-like strength
Medium to higher seed capital, medium further investment. Medium fast play. Tiny player base.
- T2 - Standard
- Legal
- All cards of the two newest blocks
- All cards of the newest core set
- Banned
- Certain cards of the Mirrodin cycle will be the only exception to the rule that Standard doesn't have banned lists due to its limitedness
Low seed capital, extreme standing costs. Medium to slow game. Big player base.

- I don't care. The copy edits to make his descriptions consistent are fine. The commentary is not. I have undone your changes, so try again. -- Wyn talk 05:45, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- ^ Thanks for the comments, though, even if they're just in the history. I lol'd a couple times. -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 05:48, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- Also, give me your AIM/MSN. -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 05:56, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- AIM:Joachim Valtieri; MSN:Jette37@hotmail.com or something, but I don't use it because Pidgin has hit a pothole and I'm not installing microsoft's bloatware. Normal operations will resume when the developers overcome Microsoft's so-called security. —Jette 05:57, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi[edit]
A) If you have heard of anyone who successfully captured a Devourer, I would love to see this. I spent about 6 hours trying half a dozen methods to get one, all with no success.
B) Your to-do list[edit]
- No one cares about HTML. You just need to know CSS. Try the W3C tutorials. Also, wikimarkup is terrible. This is an excellent example of how to fuck with wiki pages.
- Normally I'd suggest using a Python script to automate this, but I'm not even sure what this would accomplish, even in terms of trolling. =/
- Go into RA and type "PvX doesn't suck", then press enter. Mission accomplished.
- IRC is boring.
- SVG is so much harder to manipulate than EPS. :<
- Why do you want blinking lights on the wiki? o_O
- Vandalism is boring. If you really want to get back at ANet, write a network-crawling zombifier and fire up a few thousand Ion Cannons.
- You can't upload jpegs with inserted ZIPs or RARs. Already tried. The server sees them as corrupted. :<
- You'll need zombie machines to do it effectively, or you'll start timing out because too many parallel connections.
- +1-512-498-4000 - Make it clear that you're also still angry about the Korean War. Call them Communist-lovers a few times for good measure.
- Macs would come first, because people actually care about and use Macs for things other than servers.
- You have too much time on your hands. I'd suggest picking up a second job. I have three of them.
- Just use a bot to do it. It wouldn't take much code. I'd suggest AutoHotkey for the job.
- Ping it's contributions page on a set interval, compare the top contribution with it's previous top contribution. If different, post to talk and store new top contribution. If same, nothing.
- Good luck with that one.
- Lists are boring. (That said, you successfully distracted me for over 3 hours by linking to the Village Stocks page. There are reasons why I try to avoid Wikipedia, mostly because my work production suffers severely once I enter the Realm of Eternal Links.)
Love,

Also[edit]
Why exactly does Photoshop refuse to install on your computer? Need a better keygen? ;o ··· Danny Pew Pew 22:15, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- Nah. I have no idea, but I just downloaded the "micro" version is only 50mb. Works just fine. Adobe is known for bloatware anyway. I should remove that message, and in fact, I intend to. I'm waiting for a reply on something first. —Jette 23:03, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Copypasta[edit]
I have at my command an entire battle group of the poorly balanced. Fifty Characters, including specialized Palm Strikers, Shadowsteppers, Wounding Dervishes, Ether Prism Elementalists, Ritualists and Thumpers. Over half a thousand useless skilss and a hundred broken skills are mine to command. Dwayna show mercy to the fool that stands against me, for I shall not. -- NUKLEAR IIV 17:23, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- I only have one question: Why you people always eat copypasta? Copylasagna is my favorite :} - J.P.Talk 19:41, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
