Hello, Mafaraxas, and welcome to the Official Guild Wars Wiki! If you need help with anything, please feel free to add a message to my talk page. I highly recommend that you check out the "Welcome to the wiki" page - it's extremely useful as an initial guide. Best of luck and happy editing! --§ Eloc § 20:58, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Signature[edit]

Your signature is again quite disturbing for reads, especially when your posts are rather short in comparison to the signature. Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 17:45, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

dear noctarch, i find it much less disturbing for edits than users who have three lines of code for an obnoxious image signature (albeit I could see people considering my signature equally obnoxious). I do not mean this as an insult at you, but am speaking in general. It is a difficult situation for the administration to handle, I'll admit, but one that has much importance in the stake of the wiki. How do we regulate the line between tolerable and intolerable? Perhaps it is not a line, and in fact a region? Perhaps if I continue writing for another few lines, you wouldn't be bothered by my signature? Personally, I think it is much better to be succinct and to the point rather than long-winded, but since you suggested it I'm willing to try it out. That, too, is a difficult thing to balance; the line between being too brief and too long-winded, and it's something many have to struggle with in English classes as they go through primary and secondary school, and when they come out there is still no uniform opinion on the matter. Alas, this is not the place to discuss that in detail (ohoho). Well, is this a satisfactory length? — derp de derp derp a tum tee tiddly tum ta tum Maf 17:53, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

A question..[edit]

The more I participate in wiki discussions the more "serious" players I see saying things along the lines of "If they wanna leave then let them. Who cares" "They can go play WoW for all I care" and "BAWWWWW". I was just wondering, What stance does arenanet take on this? Do they support this attitude? Are they trying to cater to the playerbase at all? If so, Are they catering to the select and so called "Elite" Few that are members of guilds like Close Enough? Or are they trying to cater to the entire guildwars community as a whole? The more important part of my question being the first part, Does arenanet endorse this "If they want to go then let them because we dont need them here" attitude? 71.193.48.146 18:20, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Obviously you're either not going to get an answer, or get a political one, because the question requires Anet to look at all the mistakes they've made, which they probably won't do. They're not willing to answer for ruining their game, because they're not professional enough to do so. You've gotten all the answer you're going to get, from users. -- Tha Reckoning File:User Tha Reckoning Sig2.jpg 20:01, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm sure ANet don't take the attitude you think. I mean, they do already have your money for the game, but obviously they can still get more with the makeover packs, extra storage slots, etc. and of course they want you to buy GW2. After all, if they had no reason to cater to the playerbase, they could simply shut down the game and save the server upkeep money.
However, they are trying to cater to a playerbase that has lost the larger part of its hope that the game can be fixed; a very difficult endeavor, and while they don't expect everyone to continue playing (every game eventually loses players, some more quickly than others) they certainly want as many people as possible to spend money on upgrades and eventually GW2. --Kyoshi (Talk) User Kyoshi sig.png 20:04, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Assuming your correct kyoshi, How do they determine what the players want? Where do they look? Do they actually reveiw the feedback/suggestions pages on the wiki or is it just a past-time for them to look over them? do they read through guru threads? Im very curious as to how ANet listens to the voice of their playerbase. 71.193.48.146 20:09, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

So, how is it that they "know" what players want for the game? 71.193.48.146 20:15, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
They read Guru (Regina checks it often), read here, and ask the Test Krewe. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 20:17, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
okay, So how do they hear from the rest of the playerbase? the people playing that dont waste time here or on guru? And I dont see how asking the test krewe constitutes the rest of the community. The test krewe is just a few people that are subject to their own likes and dislikes. So, i dont think that really counts.... 71.193.48.146 20:20, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but what exactly do you expect them to do? Go through the game asking each and every player who has ever logged in for more than 5 seconds? Forums, wiki's, Facebook, Twitter, etc. are the ways in which every game company tries to reach their player-base. Granted, we often don't hear from them for long periods of time, so don't hear me defending them on their frequency of communication. However, their methods are sound. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 20:22, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm afraid i must disagree with you. I have never once seen an in game item as to where players should post for suggestions or polls on what players want or anything like that. ive played GW for years and it wasnt untill about a few months ago that i discovered i could do anything with the wiki besides poke around it for information. Didnt even discover discussion pages untill a couple months ago. Still havent figured out how to make a suggestion or feedback page (and im not looking for pointers because im not stupid enough to think what i say matters one bit). I beleive that perhaps there should be something in game reminding players about guru or the wiki so they can give their feedback about things. If they really want the input of their entire playerbase, and not just the ones that are computer literate, They need to reach out to the community and say something to them. 71.193.48.146 20:30, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Well, there are games with ingame polls. If something is enough of a big change, they ask players what they want, and act accordingly. It's not like "Do you want free stuff" or "Do you want to keep this skill overpowered?" but more like "which of the following new items would you rather have?" or "Which are do you visit less or things that needs an overhaul?". Many players dig being asked directly. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 20:35, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Exactly. As it stand the only way a player will ever have their voice heard is if they research things like guru and the wiki, create accounts, and start posting. Thats of course assuming they think theres anywhere they CAN post a suggestion or opinion. I know a large ammount of players (being in a newb friendly guild) that have no idea where they should look for informations or suggestions or anything of the sort. Let alone where to go or how to do it. 71.193.48.146 20:38, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Enough of this guys. Take it to a fansite forum somewhere. The question has been asked of Regina, and you need to leave her to answer it. Untracking the topic off to do they read feedback/suggestions or not, is unproductive and has already been addressed by Regina here. That you choose not to believe her is your problem, stop trying too make it everyone elses. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 20:42, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Wait, so we are actually meant to wait for an answer on a question that is basically, which side of the player base do you want to insult? Tidas 20:53, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
"I have never once seen an in game item as to where players should post for suggestions or polls on what players want or anything like that." oh god i hope that stays that way. - Wuhy User Wuhy sig.jpg 20:59, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
I hope so too. Keep the game a game and don't make it into a poll like some others. If someone has something to say, they will search for where to say it, and it's not that difficult to find. If you don't look or do anything to be heard, don't expect Anet to knock on your door asking what you want from their game. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 22:26, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Let the record state that "Elitist" or Elite-Favoring is a derogatory term in modern language and thus an unsuited line of questioning for the purposes of Regina's duties. A more suitable straight-forward question would be:
"WHO is the studio's primary Demographic...past and present??" -- Thank You --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 23:39, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

@wuhy why? what are you afraid of? @ilr i dont even know what you just said. How am i supposed to ask someone a question if i have no idea the words that are coming out of my mouth? Elitist may be derogatory but its the only term that I know to describe the kind of player that is... well... elitist. Which alot of "Serious" players seem to be. They seem to feel that theyre somehow better or smarter than an average player. That the trim on their cape or the animal that pops up when they /fame somehow contributes to the validity of their arguments or feelings. Also, @rose, your wrong. I just recently got my guild playing around with wiki. Like earlier today kind of recently. and the majority of players there have had the game for 4+ years. Just because someone has something to say doesnt mean they know how or where or even if theyre able to say it. (by being able to i mean if theres a place where they can post feedback and such) 71.193.48.146 16:08, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
Rose said "it's not that difficult to find" not "everyone knows where it is". She also said "don't expect Anet to knock on your door asking what you want". I can agree with that, it would be a little ridiculous to poll every player (some of whom would get multiple votes for having multiple accounts, prolly) and get a popular and quick answer instead of a good, well-argued answer. Wuhy probably agrees with Rose and also doesn't want the popular opinion, but the smart opinion.
The reason ilr reworded it (not that I expect Regina to give a straight answer on this now anyway) is because your question is rigged. It comes across as "Are you really supporting the elitists?" You can't expect Regina, a member of the staff, to choose between two vaguely-defined groups of players, deciding who she likes more, or who the company likes more (or should like more), regardless of how much you may dislike them. --Kyoshi (Talk) User Kyoshi sig.png 16:20, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
