Hi, thanks for helping. However, please don't list images as renders if they are screenshots. While it's technicaly true, it's not what we're after. Backsword 18:32, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Replaced images

Please make sure you tag the images you are replacing for deletion. Thanks! -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 15:53, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Tag? Don't really know what that means :D Magamdy 15:56, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
Each of the images you replace with a render needs to be tagged with {{delete}} so it can be deleted, rather than just bloating the Orphan file list. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 21:43, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
Also try to keep images tagged for deletion have an appropriate deletion summary, instead of putting Image replaced with render try putting I1: Redundant or superceded image.(try reading GWW:DEL) Not that it really matters but organizes it more I suppose C4K3 User C4K3 Signature.jpg Talk 20:41, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
And any content belonging to anet (even a screenshot of this wiki page) is property owned by arenanet, therefor always put {{arenanet image}} on images owned by anet, thx :D C4K3 User C4K3 Signature.jpg Talk 08:22, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks XD, you also helped me a lot. I'm just using Photoshop CS3. I downloaded it using Utorrent from The Pirate Bay. If you want to render things too using photshop, shearch on youtube for Photoshop rendering tutorial. There are several of them, and one helped me out greatly. Do I understand it correctly that you actually only use a screenshot and simply remove the background? That's not something I would call rendering, but okay... poke | talk 16:41, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
Well... Rendering IS taking a screenshot and remove the background, I can't do it the way Emily Diehl does it, cuz I don't have the right tools (dont know how to get em. If you do or you know anyone who knows, plz tell me). Look on youtube: Photoshop Rendering Tutorials Thats the way I render my stuff. -- Magamdy 16:46, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Image Screenshots

Hi, I was looking at your renders and I assume you are leaving post-processing effects on? There seems to be that glowy look to the images. Just suggesting it's better to turn post-processing effects off, as it makes the image look...iffy...This has also been suggested under the Images guideline (dot point six, under General Guidelines), but those are just guidelines so they don't need to be adhered too. Also most NPCs will pivot on the spot if you talk to them from a different direction, which is helpful when trying not to make them shadowy. Anyway just thought I'd tell you that, in case you decide to try it out before doing more renders. ~Celestia 14:32, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Teena the Raptor

Don't replace the image for Teena the Raptor with Lionguard f. They may share the same model, but they are not the same. The wield completely different weapons. So replacing it with the Lionguard doesn't work at all. --158.121.88.54 17:01, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

It doesnt care what weapons npc's use, since these are normally random. -- Magamdy 17:03, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Teena the Raptor always uses a Deldrimor Axe and Darkwing Defender. It is not random. --158.121.88.54 17:04, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
The weapons on Teena the Raptor, like all the new henchmen, is a part of her model. Stop reverting the IP. You're wrong. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 17:06, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Very well then. Don't have to shout at me. -- Magamdy 17:08, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi. (imagine me whispering) Is it possible to render these guys and gals without their weapons? That particular case was pretty obvious, since the render you were placing wielded a sword, and all Teena's skills are axe-based. Just a thought. Have a nice day. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 17:10, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but that is my secret >:D -- Magamdy 17:11, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
I wouldn't recommend rendering them w/o their weapons, since these NPCs literally always have their weapons, including when they're just standing around in HA or in your guild hall. Their weapons could arguably be considered a part of their models. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 17:16, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
If its rendered with weapons, its not an official render. Every single human render done by Emily Diehl is without weapon, so why should these not? -- Magamdy 17:19, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
I am fine with weaponless, I am not fine with incorrect gear. Misery 17:23, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
I know i was wrong >.< (p.s. Misery, ur page is deleted xD) -- Magamdy 17:24, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Agree with Mis. The weapons the new henchmen wield are noted on each page (when known), so I don't see lack of weapons as an issue. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 17:25, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Because these are unlike most other models. They literally always carry their weapons. Like the Lionguard who are rendered with their weapons and always carry their weapons. And Mis's page had been deleted forever. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 17:26, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Why render a model with weapon if u can do without? That render is meant to get a better view on the model of the npc, not the weapons. Go to the render project and look at henchmen. All officialy rnedered ones are without weapons too. -- Magamdy 17:29, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
The female Lionguard may be rendered with the weapons, but the note at the bottom of the page states 'they use a variety of weapons'. So it seems kinda redundant to have a render with a weapon because the ingame version could be wielding an entirely different set. --Arduin talk 17:47, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Can we agree on leaving them or changing them? I prefer screens with weapons over renders without as you can see what they actually look like with their equipment and it's faster than looking ingame, and these guys always have their weapons so the Lionguard example isn't the best. I'm not too bothered either way though. --User Oneshot O.JPGneshot 18:22, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Well at least the discussion about Teena the Raptor is over, I added a weaponless render ;) -- Magamdy 17:17, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

that file is still in use, and I couldn't find whatever redundant image you were referring to. fix the link and re-tag it for deletion. -Auron 09:05, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

I uploaded a render for it at put it on the pages of all NPC's that had that model listen on GWW:PR\Render. Seems this one was not on the list. I'll chance it. Next time check yourself, cuz i don't add a deletion tag for fun Magamdy 11:21, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Your current renders

I am in love with them :D What's your secret :3–User Balistic B d-dark.pngalistic 02:06, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Hmm recognition comes quicker than I expected xD Anyway it isn't really a secret, since I stole it from some users who did it before me. I use a program called 3D Ripper DX to rip models from a single frame in Guild Wars and then import them in 3ds max to render them. 3D Ripper Dx often fails though, occasionally the textures are completely wrong, or 50% of the model is transparent so you have to go through a lot to make it right :) Magamdy 10:37, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
Do you have anything checked in the 3d ripper dx window (for example: capture all shaders, all textures, etc.)? A tutorial would be awesome. ^_^–User Balistic B d-dark.pngalistic 03:51, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
Ah so you want to try it yourself, cool :P. I could tell you a few things, but the most you fill have to find out yourself, like I did. Cuz I want you to suffer like I did >:P First of all, no you don't need something checked in 3d ripper and you need 3ds max 2009 (torrents), and install 3d ripper dx AFTER you installed 3ds max. --Magamdy 08:30, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Image Rendering program

Hi, I'm wondering if you could shed some light on the software you use to make your renders, and someone mentioned that you had some sort of free-can software I'm interested in for the Interactive Maps project. Thanks in advanced, and if you have something to help, I'd <3 you forever. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 17:06, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Ah Alex told u xD. Use this (http://www.gamerevision.com/index.php?topic=2015.0) link to get the free cam software. You need to make an account to download it. I don't know if it's legal or illegal, but whatever :P. For my renders I use a program called 3D Ripper DX to capture all models from a single gw frame and then render them in 3DS max :P. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. -- Magamdy 17:14, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Ah, after I did some Googling I found that program, it works alright, except for the watermark >.> Don't tell him I ratted you out, haha. Thanks for the quick response though, and hopefully the program comes in handy. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 17:40, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Then I checked the folder and realized that no textures were being captured at all. Any ideas why this is happening? I've been screwing around in the ripper, will report anything that changes. Army is an old term right?

Actually it isn't. It's the in-house term (aka the term Anet uses) for Affiliation. "Wildlife" is used on the wiki to denote the 'generic' army/affiliation of a region. Technically, elite areas are nothing but the generic affiliations (generic allied, generic hostile) and thus army was kept for them. A lot of the pages need to be worked around a bit. So no it is not old, but its no more wrong than wildlife by wiki standards. Konig/talk 20:44, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Question

Regarding Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/NPC models: Firstly, what constitutes as a render by wiki standards? To me, a render is just the subject, no background, but most "renders" here include said backgrounds (and are forced to due to a constant use of .jpg images) - I ask this as the project is rather behind in terms of noting when an image is rendered, I have seen a few rendered-appearing images marked with No which left me confused; Secondly, and more importantly, is there a difference, in the project's standard, between Yes and Yes? Because comparing images which use one to images using the other, I see little difference. Thirdly (and last for now): What is the desire of bosses being rendered by the projects standards? I see some (the elementals) having boss renders separate, but most combine the bosses into normal folk...
Asking because I'm slowly getting into using Gimp and now know how to bring out alpha channels, also I have nabbed some texmod stuff which should help in creating renders, so I'm wanting to help move that project along. Doesn't help that the project has no "Key" section or whatnot...
And Thanks for taking the time to read this. Konig/talk 01:06, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Well, a difference is made between 'real' renders and 'fake' renders. Real being opening the actual file of the model in a program and rendering it like that (like Emily Diehl did) or extracting the model from the game and opening it (like I do), and fake being just taking a screenshot and then rendering it with photoshop. Like I've been told when I first started rendering; "while photoshop renders are technically renders, it's not what we're after", so that's why they're tagged as Unknown. Yes means pretty much the render is good but there is still room for improvement, or when a photoshop render is used as a placemarker until a real render arrives. Yes means the render is pretty much perfect or there is no need to improve it. And about bosses being rendered with their auras, I think there is a discussion bout it on the main page of the project. I have mixed feeling bout it myself, it shows the NPC like it really is in the game but the aura also obscures details. That being said, I myself can't render the auras with the bosses, or at least I don't know how to. I think Emily could do it, but she often chose not to. Neil2250 had a way to render bosses with their aura but he never said how he did it, yet his renders were pretty lol quality and small, while I can make renders super huge and show immense detail that otherwise will go unnoticed. So yeah, it's your choice to include aura or not, if it's within your power ( I don t know what method you will be using). And with key section you mean a section on how to render yourself I suppose? Well, I might be able to make one, but I'm not really playing GW a lot anymore, and I just got Skyrim so I have other things to worry about lol :P. But it's great that you want to contribute to the project, so good luck and thanks -- Magamdy 14:01, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
By key, I meant why images were marked No, Yes, or Yes. A guide for newbs wouldn't be bad. As for my method, unless I can found out a program to use that takes the render itself, it'll be using texmod to solid-color backgrounds and gimp to remove non-white solid backgrounds. So a "placeholder render" I guess would be what I'll do (which, to me, is enough unless it's bad quality). Konig/talk 19:45, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Ah ok. Well it seems pretty straightforward to me. And actually, making the background all white with texmod is harder than it seems, due to shadows. Bit maybe u can do it. I could teach you my own technique, though it's much harder of course. -- Magamdy 18:35, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Shadows can be removed via F11 (and for me are). I wouldn't mind knowing alternatives, as texmod is a pain to load on my computer (when I open the file which contains the program it freezes for like 5-10 minutes...). Konig/talk 19:25, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
I mean more like hardcodes shadows, areas that are supposed to be darker like spots under a roof. Btw if your pc is really slow, the progrems I use use a lot of load, just so you know. -- Magamdy 20:17, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
And I just realized that even with "Shadow" set to "Off" I still get shadows... Makes no sense but GW is apparently weird. As for the program bit - I'll be getting a new computer by the end of the year (hopefully), as this one is on its end anyways. Konig/talk 20:54, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Hmm thanks for doing some updating on the project, it was much needed :). So you still want to know bout my method? Cuz it kinda sucks you got black backgrounds for your skeleton renders. -- Magamdy 10:20, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Not my render, someone put it up and upright skeleton> hunched overlooked skeleton. But I got my new desktop so once that's running (probably will take a week since I need to get stuff from home and being away a for college and all) I can run your method. Konig/talk 17:35, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and on the bosses - imo, we should grab the render with aura but when the model is unique, go without the aura (or go both) like how Dagnar is. I'll probably pewter Neil for his method if/when I get into rendering (which will likely be some time, as I want to take care of other things on this wiki first; think I'm done with removing the multiple images of the same model/model and aura). Konig/talk 17:39, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Exactly, so if you manage to render bosses with their auras certainly render them with em. Now my technique (well mine, some guys on the wiki used it before me) is using a program called 3D Ripper DX to capture a frame from the game, then import it in 3DS Max 2009 (won't work with any other version as far is a know), isolate the model you want to render, and render it. It has some flaws as there are generally some problems that show up. Some of which you can solve, some of which you can't or I don't know how to. But if everything works you can make some really awesome and high detail renders :P. I suggest you download 3DS Max 2009 with torrents or something if you really wanna try it out. Then just try stuff out and fuck around with it, that's how I learned lol. -- Magamdy 18:41, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Chicken/other cute animal renders..

Reckon the two chickens, doplhin, crabs and other small things count as objects or as npcs for the Template:ArenaNet image tag? --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 18:56, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Well all my other renders were tagged as arenanet renders, so I guess these aren't exceptions. -- Magamdy 19:20, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Actually, since they are just stationary objects used for decoration and can't be interacted with in any way, they should be tagged as object renders -- Magamdy 19:24, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Lol

I think this meme is appropriate. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 15:32, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Oh snap XD -- Chicken 1.jpg Magamdy 16:35, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

I apologise

For my pumpkin pie "render". File:General Kahyet.png (Aargghh!) File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 18:50, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Oh god! Heresy! Blasphemy!~I'm still waitng for my dmaned PC to get fixed again, then hopefully I'll do a few more renders. -- Chicken 1.jpg Magamdy 15:19, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
This actually took you an hour? What, were you using paint or something? xD -- Chicken 1.jpg Magamdy 16:34, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

You know its too late when...

..you try to emulate Magamdy's renders and ... all of the trial versions of 3DS max I can obtain legitimately don't work with 3d ripper. And if I use the .obj file then I get a bunch of squint shit. rage :P --Chieftain Alex 20:40, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

What model are you attempting to render? MadMaxx 20:53, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
Ah, I was just testing to see if 3d ripper and the 2013 version of 3dstudio worked, but it didn't. (my pc is pretty stable but I don't have any means of restoring it if I wreck it with pirate software >_> ) I had in mind doing some of the god statue models (if it had worked), but I'll forget them. Chieftain Alex 21:24, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
You want those rendered? I may give that a go :P. But statue's and buildings usually don't turn out very well. -- Chicken 1.jpg Magamdy 12:53, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Render Request

Can you do Lyssa's Muse? User Yoshida Keiji Signature.pngYoshida Keiji(talk) 15:56, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

It's a long time ago, but I'm pretty sure I once tried that onealready. Didn't work out because it's basically just a floating texture... I can try though. -- Chicken 1.jpg Magamdy 22:39, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
