Don't tase me bro!

Please don't feel oppressed or offended when someone tries to prevent the duplication of work, it's entirely possible that poke had already captured some of the animations you were uploading and that would kind of make it feel like his work and time were being wasted. The point was that duplication of work isn't in anyone's or the wiki's best interests, most efficient progress in the project can be achieved by working on areas where no one else has started. When there is nothing left I see nothing wrong with people mopping up sections that others have started, but the point is just to keep everything efficient and prevent any hurt feelings. Evidently, the way you were informed of this offended you, so there has been a failure in this regard. It's a pity you have decided to withdraw from the project, please don't let this discourage you from contributing in the future. Misery 17:28, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

How can you tell me not to? Every time I try to contribute constructively I am approached in a hostile manner, I am sick of it. I have worked my ass off to redeem myself from my past here but it doesn't work. And if anyone posts that people do not hold my past against me you are a liar, ever since my wiki lawyering days I am always approached like this. --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 17:34, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
I can tell you not to be discouraged because for the most part other people on the internet and what they think doesn't matter at all. I guess you have to ask yourself why you contribute to a wiki. Everyone has their own personal reasons, don't let others detract or sap what joy you might derive from being here. Misery 17:45, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Seriously what is up with you? You were the one who did this edit and showed that you have absolutely no interest in that there was written "in progress" already. I asked you why you then chose especially those two attributes when there are other attributes left with no progress at all. All you said that in your opinion it doesn't matter that others already worked on that; and I clearly said that I already worked on it.
None of my comments - in any way - were influenced by past actions by you, it could have been any other person who did that and I would have said the same. But you shouldn't be surprised that everyone is always like this when you behave like that and ignore everything others say. poke | talk 17:47, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't ignoring you comments, I wanted to actually help you. I was planning on helping with those and helping with the Necromancer animations (because I have nearly all Allegiance skills, all Sunspear Skills, and nearly all Necro Skills). The others I don't have very many of. But you don't have to worry about that anymore, just go ahead and finish it yourself, I will find something else to do. --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 17:52, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm pleased you have decided to find somewhere else your efforts can be applied. I'd welcome help updating the guild hall pages if you have any experience in that area, I find doing it all myself rather draining. Poke, I know you are well intentioned, but do you really think commenting here again is going to help anything? Sometimes it's time to let things go, she's already said she is going to back off your turf, we should always act to minimise drama. Misery 17:55, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Unfortunately I do not have much experience with Guild Halls and GvG, sorry :) --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 18:05, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, that seems to be a recurring theme, people who aren't lazy have no experience. I guess the kind of mindset that a typical PvPer has isn't exactly the kind of mindset that spends time updating wikis. Misery 18:11, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, not sure. It looks like you haven't changed you sig after all XD I remember looking somewhere and seeing your sig where the image was missing though. Have you been using the same image for your sig and just changing the versions, or have you used seperate images? It could have been an old sig with a deleted image.... not sure. Anyway, no big deal if I don't figure this one out. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 15:31, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

What about creating that image with a redirect to your current one? As your old image is userimage-valid, you can make all old images work again, without the need to upload something. poke | talk 05:59, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

HP

I never have trusted them, and I've only heard horror stories about their computers. There is a reason why my desktop is a DIY bild, well, more than one reason. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 01:25, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

I've never had a problem with HP, and it so happens to be one of the brands I trust most. I don't, however, trust Dells and Compaq. --TalkAntioch 14:14, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Pretty sure HP and Compaq merged. Misery 14:21, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
So it seems. They still have their separate products, AFAIK. --TalkAntioch 14:44, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
You are incorrect AFAIK, but in any case, both companies were pretty terrible. I've dealt with all three you mentioned and I have found Dell to be the least rage inducing and closest to building it yourself if you aren't competent enough to build it yourself. That being said, building it yourself is by far the best way to go. The only reason I have a Dell at the moment is because it's a laptop and I needed international warranty cover. Misery 15:06, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
I do like Dell's option of "You pick, we put it together" type thing. The reason I didn't like Dell was because of the crappy computers at my high school (then again, you put any computer in the public, someone has to mess it up). I need to build my own someday. --TalkAntioch 15:46, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
I wouldn't know where to begin when it comes to building my own computer. I just know that I will never buy an HP product again. --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 17:27, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
I've never bought something again many times! Misery 17:35, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
60% of the time, it works every time. --TalkAntioch 17:55, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

There's nothing wrong with HP or Dell. There are just a LOT of them out there so you will obviously see a lot of them fail. My server, laptop, and monitors are all HP, and give me no problems at all. Having sold and repaired Dells and HPs; sure I've seen tons of them. I've fixed $10,000 Dell servers ... not because they were junk, but simply because they required maintenance. 99 times out of 100 it's PEBKAC. The rest are real failures which, obviously, can and do occur. And when they do (I've even had to solder new caps onto the RAM daughterboard in my own server), I don't rage at HP, I just replace the part. If it died on day 1, I'd just have it replaced. Ghosst I Make Dead PeopleTalk • 17:58, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm not saying they break a lot, but the packages tend to be poorly put together with unideal specs and a lot of shit you don't want, especially in terms of software. If you know what you are doing you are always going to end up with a better system if you custom build, but the reasons for that are self-evident. Misery 18:01, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
The reason that I will not buy another HP product again is because of the fact the my computer has had a "one in a million defect" twice now.... what are the chances of that? How could the factory let things like this slip through this easily. I have talked to others who had HP laptops and desktops and they refuse to buy any HP products because their computer gave them constant problems. It also seems that System Fans failing in HP computers is actually quite common (despite what their support staff told me). The fact is, when I pay 2 grand for a computer, it shouldn't have these "rare" defects... I am sorry but that is how I see it. I am not saying that computers don't need maintenance, they do, but when it is stuff like this and the fact that the other problem didn't happen too long ago makes me a bit angry. HP isn't nearly as bad as e-machines was, but nonetheless I am pissed off. (Also, my scanner that I bought from HP has stopped working...) --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 18:52, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Dell told me that they had never heard of the nvlddmkm.dll error. If you do a google for that you will see about 243485436254 internet threads with that problem. Fuck you corporate line, fuck you. Misery 18:54, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
lol, e-machines line was made for kids, public schools, etc., of course they are crappy xD Vili 点 User talk:Vili 21:52, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
hmm, I only found 5200 entries, but meh. It's a graphics card issue, made by nVidia running on Vista 64-bit. Dell should work with nVidia on it, but support staff tell you what they've been made aware of. Most support staff know what's printed in front of them on their knowledge base and nothing else. So if they can't find your particular error it's just that no one has posted it for them. For the whopping $0.50/hr those Indians get, they take a lot of flak.
Shadow: I understand the frustration and no, you shouldn't be having issues with it. As far as the factory letting things, "slip through", the factory is a bunch of robots. Fan bearings are a pretty common problem when you buy entry-level computers because they use sleeve bearings which don't have much of a life expectancy. For 2K, you ought to have a pretty high-end rig. If it's the same computer, and has only been repaired, most places have a type of lemon-law replacement guarantee (usually 3rd or 4th major repair = replacement). Ghosst I Make Dead PeopleTalk • 21:51, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

LOL! If your going to do THAT, it would have to be vista, as you would need more than 2gig of RAM, and 64bit XP is not up to par.
Which reminds me, you could build a very hefty Core i7 gaming rig for just over $1400, and an even beefier rig for about $1850. This does not include the cost of peripherals, but does include the cost of an OS. Both would ruin off a 64bit Vista Home Premium, 1TB hard drive, 6 gig of DDR3 RAM, an ATI HD 4890, and a 2.66GHz Quad Core i7 processor. The beefier build would be running two HD 4890s in Crossfire, a nice sound card, and a Solid State drive for the OS. I can give you a full list of parts if you would like more details. It's basically built to handle Crysis, which should ready it for pretty much anything you can throw at it, and hold it's own down the road. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 19:35, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm a microsoft whore because I play games and work in an office. Misery 21:05, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
@Misery: Same for me.
@Antioch: Depends on the day, right now ATI has my favor. I've seen too many sloppy drivers from Nvidia, shotty cards, poor manufacturing, unreliability, lack of DX10.1 support raises a "WTF?" flag, and recycling older cards with newer names to fill out a new series raises another. Nvidia may have been walking all over ATI after they were bought by AMD, but now ATI is back with a vengeance and means business. Not to mention that a good 80% or so of Vista crashes after early release were due to poorly written Nvidia drivers. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 15:10, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

For $1400, you could build a gaming rig better than your HP (yes, I've seen your xfire profile and rig). It's powerful, can play Crysis and make it look pretty (which is saying something), and will last you a while. For $1800 or so, you could build an even more powerful rig that boarders on the bleeding edge. My gaming rig is pretty hefty and with $1400, you could almost top mine, and you could blow mine out of the water with $1800. I spent over $2000 on mine. I have yet to find a game that my gaming rig can't run on max graphics and your would be better than mine. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 16:17, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
I should make an XFire profile so you can see my rig and laugh, and laugh, and laugh. --TalkAntioch 16:21, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Ah, I see. Yes that would be nice... I may eventually hire someone to make me a custom gaming rig since it actually sounds nice ^_^ --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 16:25, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
@Antioch: I don't know if I would laugh, but I'm sure I would feel sorry for what you have to game on.

random question for you, shadow. what exactly does a wiki-bureaucrat do on wiki? -Lena User Lena Sig.png talk 18:40, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Depends on the wiki. This one is particular the bureaucrat is essentially a sysop. Bureaucrats here have all the same tools a sysops (however, they are a bit more restricted); they also have the extra buttons to make sysops and other bureaucrats (as well as Anet rights, which I can't fathom why) and remove them. Not to mention that they also are members of the AbrComm... You can find out more here and here. --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 18:45, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Expansion doubles your stash, adds another act, and a few other goodies, as well as two more classes. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 18:12, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Ah, well let me see if I like Diablo II before I go buying the expansion... I wouldn't want to sink $40+ in a game that I haven't played (or any of it predecessors). The mere fact that it is Blizzard scares me a bit, but I am willing to try it. If I enjoy it, you can bet money I will buy the expansion (and prob. Diablo III, which looks amazing if I might add) --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 18:16, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Actually, scratch that. I prob. would sink $40+ into a game that I haven't tried/heard about/etc. and then if I didnt like it, sell it to game stop for 4 bucks (that pisses me off) I am funny like that. --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 18:18, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Diablo II is actually possibly the most amazing game ever. It just got boring after like... how long has it been out now? Like 10 years? Misery 18:19, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
I'd say stick with trying it before buying Lord of Destructions. :) — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 18:20, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

(Edit conflict x2) What are the developers I like? Oh right: Valve, Blizzard (who rolls in money and puts whatever out there because of their fan base), Atlas, Bioware, Capcom, Squaresoft (I said -soft, not -enix), Enix/Triace, Quantic Dream, Konami. I really recommend looking at those companies too. --TalkAntioch 18:24, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

I haven't played in ages. What was that pali ability to strike like five times in quick succession? I ran that, and I hated running around in act IV I think because of Iron Maiden spam. --TalkAntioch 18:30, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Zeal. Also, lod nerfed fistadins, and since I had a 96 fistadin... lod destroyed the game :p (well, that much is obvious just from the assassin class :/)-Auron 18:38, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Rawrs in your general direction

You've been playing other games, aye? Oh... I see how it is... we're not good enough for you... hmm... HMM!!!! >:| ^_^ That's ok, I've been playing Sims 3 a lot more lately, pretty good game and going back into modding Fallout 3 - the team mod I was writing for died shortly after I left the project due to PC issues (hard to mod the game when you can't run the game... or the mod tools anymore >.<) and I don't want to see the what, 2 months I spent writing and planning it out to be for nothing. So, I'm using some Death Magic on it and going to see what I can recycle out of it.

"Now remember, Children, watch out for those old people and their walkers! O.O ~~000.00.00.00~~ 21:54, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

haven't played anything in a couple days. I have been super busy from work, often taking it home with me (Xainder doesn't like that much) so many events and fundraisers so little time *sigh*. I want the Sims 3 soooo bad, thinking about getting it with my paycheck this weekend. When I do get the chance to game, I usually hop on Civ 3... its an oldie but a goodie and highly addicting ^_^. --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 00:39, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
