Quest infobox "Type"[edit]

When you create the infoboxes for quests, please enter the "type" field where type= whatever type of quest it is shown in the quest log to be. It should ether be Primary, the region that the quest takes place in (Kryta, The Jade Sea, Istan, etc...) or Festival. Thanks, and thanks for all the work you're putting in on creating the quest entries.  :) --Rainith 12:08, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

In Template:Quest_infobox, it says to classify the quests as either "Primary", "Master", "Skill", "Festival" or "Region." There's already a region field where I have put the actual region for the quests. For instance, in The Xunlai Agent, I have put Region in the type field and Kaineng City in the region field. Are you saying I should also put Kaineng City in the type field as well? Just need some clarification. Thanks for your help.Tedium 15:48, 28 March 2007 (EDT)
I believe (I may be wrong, I'd have to look at the page but am currently at work and don't have time) that by region it was meant to put the actual region there, but only if it didn't fall under one of the ones you listed (Primary, Master, Festival, Skill). I may be wrong, if so, I apologize.  :) --Rainith 17:03, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

Fixing redirects[edit]

Hey Tedium :) I notice you are fixing redirects. Please don't! Following a redirect costs about 1 query more than following a direct link, and the cost of updating an article is about 10,000 times the cost of following a link, so it's really best to just leave links as they are, even if they do point to redirects. Thanks! LordBiro 16:17, 16 April 2007 (EDT)

Lost Princesses[edit]

Hey, I did that skill thingy on some page like that also. It makes it look all the more cooler ^^.--Eloc 02:57, 28 April 2007 (EDT)

Yeah, I think so too. Tedium 03:01, 28 April 2007 (EDT)

Quest articles[edit]

FWIW now that I've finished all 3 campaigns with my main characters, I'm going through and doing all the side-quests that I missed out/skipped, I plan to updated or create new articles as I get through them. Though at the moment, it's likely to be only 1 or 2 new articles per evening. --BramStoker 18:37, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

Scorched Earth quest, renamed the existing Nightfall quest page to Scorched Earth (Nightfall), and added a short disambig page under plain Scorched Earth. --BramStoker 11:37, 29 April 2007 (EDT)

Project[edit]

I have noticed that you have been adding quest pages to the wiki. I myself have added a couple and will continue to add them. I just came across your todo list on your user page and thought maybe we should turn it into a project. So that maybe a lot more people could see the page and help. I look forward to hearing from you.--Sktbrd341 14:07, 2 May 2007 (EDT)

It'd be great idea for a project, I think. --Dirigible 00:25, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
Check out User:Sktbrd341/Quest_Test for my idea for the project page. I am still working on it but it might work out nice, would love to be part of the project. --Sktbrd341 00:28, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
Maybe move it from your userspace to Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/Quests and make the project official? --Dirigible 00:35, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
I will make it official once i get all of the layout complete which should be finished tonight. --Sktbrd341 00:44, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
I only just noticed the discussion here since I don't have this page watched. I didn't realize my subpages aren't automatically watched. Anyway, my quest page isn't a complete listing of all quests and the comments are about a week or two old. But I'm sure some of the comments still apply. You can merge anything you want from my quest page into User:Sktbrd341/Quest_Test. Or I can go ahead and help comment the quests if you have your page layout complete. Tedium 01:09, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
I have about another half hour of work to finish up my page then i will make a project page for it. Then if you want to start putting in the comments then that would be great. --Sktbrd341 01:13, 11 May 2007 (EDT)

Awesome[edit]

I just wanted to say.. You're awesome :) Whenever I watch recent changes, I see you edit and add lots of needed content and clean up stuff. - anja talk (contribs) 19:54, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, just helping where I can. Tedium 20:12, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks from me as well. Good job. --Karlos 07:35, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Yea, great work on adding NPC articles! -- ab.er.rant sig 09:56, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Rv[edit]

Why'd you revert? He removed a load of junk from the page, don't mindlessly re-add it. Rt/P isn't good, Rt/D isn't good... if people want ideas and are new to the Rit class, don't give them bad advice. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:70.95.73.60 .

If I was mistaken about this, then I'm sorry. It looked like someone was just blanking those sections for no reason, so I assumed it was vandalism. There were several cases of this earlier. Tedium 02:39, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Benji's Brother[edit]

I see you missed Benji's brother's dialogue, as well... At least you got Isaiah's! Nice. *sigh*. I hate it when I watch dialogue scroll by and realize I haven't recorded it. :( - Thulsey Zheng - talk 02:49, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Yeah the hard ones to get are when they don't show up in the console. I had to take a screenshot for every line he said. I didn't bother continuing the mission after Isaiah's dialogue, but I'll get the rest of the dialogue sometime later unless someone does it before me. Tedium 02:53, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Oops[edit]

Oops, I'm sorry. xD Didn't know that that article was a duplicate. >.< Vengeance Signet 01:48, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Oh, don't worry. It was a subtle difference of one period. I went ahead and fixed the game integration link to point to the right name. Tedium 01:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. ^^ Have a nice day. Vengeance Signet 01:59, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Quest Project[edit]

Thanks for the long over due update to the Quest Project page. I wish I had more free time to continue to work on the quest articles. --06:03, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Yeah no problem. There's a few areas that still needs to be updated, but I'll get to it sometime later. I also can't contribute as much to the quests as I use to. I don't have any free character slots and my main characters have already completed most quests. Tedium 02:55, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

salvage items[edit]

Hi tedium, I have left some messages for you here in case you don't have it watched. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 17:51, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. Don't know if you looked through the page, but there's a few more icons missing or needing an update in case you were interested in finding them in the dat. Tedium 02:47, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
If I see them I will grab them :) --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 03:07, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Categories[edit]

Your Sandbox appears on several Unique Hammer related pages due to your use of Categories. Heres an example: [[1]]. Please fix this =). Have a nice day ^____^ LunarEffect 22:00, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I fixed the formatting of Havok's Maul which was causing the problem. The categories were in the stats section which I moved to the bottom of the page. My sandbox won't be removed from the category right away because of caching, but it will be eventually. Tedium 22:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Oki, seems that fixed it! =) Thank you very much, highly appreciated! =D LunarEffect 20:22, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Stackables[edit]

Just in case you weren't aware but when an item like Mountain Minotaur Hide is stackable you don't need to include the code | stackable = Yes to the page because it defaults to yes :) --Kakarot Talk 03:05, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

... or at least it's supposed to. --Kakarot Talk 03:06, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
When the type parameter is set to salvage item, stackable defaults to no. So you have to manually set the parameter to yes for non-armor salvage items. Tedium 03:18, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Sorry about that guess I should of checked it out further before leaving you a message. --Kakarot Talk 03:22, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Type field[edit]

Adding Unique to the type field is redundant when Unique is set to yes. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn/talk 01:23, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Also if it doesnt show up as unique <whatever Weapontype> it would be way easier to fix the Template to actually do so then editing every single Weapon Article. Not to mention way more tidy. --SilentStorm Talk to me 01:47, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
While it would be nice, the majority of unique weapon pages already have the "Unique weapon" value. For whatever reason a few were changed breaking categorization. It's easier for me to change a few values than to mess with a complicated template potentially breaking other things. Tedium 02:01, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, the fact that the template isn't doing this automatically (which it's suppose to) tells me the template is broken, not the page, and should therefore be what is getting fixed. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn/talk 02:09, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
I don't mind if someone wants to fix the template, but if no one bothers with it, I'll just finish fixing the types since there are only a few weapons left. Tedium 02:17, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
So I finally found a discussion on the type field. I take it "Unique type" is being deprecated (formatting guide needs to be updated if this is true). So a unique and non-unique axe should just say "Axe", but the unique axe should have "unique = yes". I rewrote the categorization code in the weapon infobox template. It can be found at User:Tedium/Sandbox. I tested a unique and non-unique axe at User:Tedium/Sandbox2 (the code is commented out). I haven't fully tested everything, but I fixed the categorization problems so a unique weapon will not be in both the weapon category and unique weapon category. I also auto-categorized the three categories for unique weapons that needed to be manually categorized. There's a few other tweaks that should help with auto-categorizing the contains categories. I'm not sure what the salvageable parameter is for. If you don't list a salvaged material the row won't be displayed anyway. Unfortunately, the "Unique" in type needs to removed. I'm willing to go back and fix those since I'm working on all the weapons anyway or I can probably make some additional changes to the template so either value will work. Tedium 08:56, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
I think it was intended to be in both categories for gallery purposes. As for removing it, I would suggest you request a bot run to do that. GWW:BOTS--Wyn's Talk page Wyn/talk 08:59, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Generally, if there is a more specific subcategory, the page should go in there and not in both categories (see Guild Wars Wiki:Formatting/Categories). The separate categories makes it easier to navigate the weapons. When I wrote the galleries, I wanted a separate gallery for unique weapons and a separate gallery for non-unique weapons. Mixing both unique and non-unique weapons into the same gallery makes the gallery less useful when looking up a skin. Basically, fixing the categories will automatically fix the galleries. Tedium 09:29, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
However, while I agree that unique weapons should have a separate gallery, I don't agree that they should not be included in the non unique gallery, as they are still a weapon of that type. but that is a discussion for another place and time. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn/talk 09:34, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Since you wrote the Quest checklist template...[edit]

... and I think some changes might be needed, would you care to look at Template_talk:Quest checklist? 2009-01-06T01:21:28 [[User:Mtew|mtew]

Could you comment on this: User:Mtew/Projects/ByRegion/Quest reviews,  I am not sure this really the right way to do this.  The lists will be empty if they have not been reviewed at all.      mtew 05:28, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean by "reviewed." I'm guessing at what the page is suppose to do, but I believe you have a few errors. Currently, this is happening:
if (pagename comparison)
This is a report on the quest checklists status.
else
  dpl statements
The pipe after the line This is a report on the quest checklists status.| is making the else case. I'm assuming you want both the initial statement and dpl statements to be displayed together, so the pipe should be removed.
I can't really say much about the dpl statements until I know what you are filling in for {{{1}}} and {{{2}}}. Multiple category lines will implicitly AND them, which you can also write in one line as | category = cat1 & cat2 & cat3. Also, there is a cap on the number of pages that can be selected, which I think is 200. Tedium 07:29, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I should have made it clearer – the meat is in the tabs for each campaign/expansion.  There is a framework on the next level up that finds all the campaigns and expansions and all the regions in each of those.      mtew 08:18, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
More specifically, the first positional parameter is the campaign name and the second positional parameter is the region name.  The template in for the particular report tab is called for each combination of campaign and regions associated with that campaign.  Other tabs at the same level have different report generators.  Additional reports can be added to the tab bar header and appropriate report templates writen.  I would like your opinion on how useful this system could be?      mtew 03:53, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
I have just added a report for locations by regions.  It also might be useful if there are status markers for the location review project.      mtew 03:10, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
I think I understand what you mean now. I don't see any technical problems with your system, but I found a way to use dpl to automatically fill in Template:Quest checklist in the quest lists. A template will have to be added to all quest pages that are missing content or need formatting. I'm trying to find out if there is a way to check if a page belongs to a specific category so that the template will not be necessary. Current work is at User:Tedium/Sandbox3. This approach will help compact those long lists. Tedium 10:05, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
The categorizations still have to be added.  Not having them gives a false sense of security.  I think a sign-off template, probably in a seperate section on the talk page, would make more sense.  If done that way, the default would be 'needs something' rather than the other way around.
I took the material from the sandbox and folded it into the quest review report.  Could you look at it again.  The new code is simply a transformation of what you wrote to the other form of DPL.  I understand why you used the tag form; it is quite a bit cleaner.  I tried including it directly as you can see, but it didn't work.  Maybe it needs one level of delay.  I'll try that soon but not right now.  I've been up for four hours starting a little after 4 AM and need a nap again.      mtew 13:27, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
It looks like you have both the parser function (#dpl:) and parser extension (<dpl>) syntax in the code. The parser extension code isn't being displayed because of the line category = The {{{2}}} quests. The extra "The" shouldn't be there. But I'm assuming you going to keep the parser function code and toss the parser extension code anyway. Also, you should remove the older dpl code, so there is only one dpl call instead of seven. The categories should be trivial to add to Template:Quest checklist. Tedium 02:29, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
I was trying to see if I could get the extension form working.  It is simpler than the function form and would be easier to maintain if I could get it to work.  I pulled the extra 'The' and it still doesn't play.  The function forms can be nested but getting the nesting levels correct is a bit tricky.  They will be harder to maintain.  The category based reports are there to provide a check on the results.  There is obviously a mismatch at this point.  This is a work in progress and suggestions are welcome!
I would like to add both an 'Early Benefits' and 'Environmental Changes' section to the quest guidelines.  From the discussion, I got the impression that the objections were to the names I had chosen, not to the additions themselves.  Your advice on how to proceed with the guideline change would be appreciated too.      mtew 04:47, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
I mistakenly wrote adding the categories to Template:Quest checklist when I meant whatever template that dpl will read from. Template parameters don't work with parser extension syntax because the code is evaluated by dpl before the parameter gets expanded. [dpl manual] explains it better. So what you are trying to do is impossible with parser extension syntax.
I don't have any objections to the "Eary Benefits" section and I don't really care what it's called as long as it's clear what goes in there. I don't know what the "Environmental Changes" section is for. Can you give me an example. Tedium 05:19, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) On using the extension syntax: Thanks for the clarification.  I thought that was the way it worked, but I'm still new at this and don't entirely trust my understanding of the details.  On the other hand, I have read enough inaccurate documentation to realise that a test case is a more reliable way to understand what is going on.

"Environmental Changes" would be the addition, removal or change of the environment.  For example, the 'Charr at the Gates' quest adds four 'Charr' to 'Lakeside County' near the gate to 'The Northlands' for the duration of the quest.  The actual type varies, but they are usually level 5 with an occasional level 4 healer.  'Prince Rurik' also moves from his position next to 'Captain Orsic' and becomes an 'Ally'.  There is also a couple additional unnamed NPCs, and I don't recall all their statistics off-hand, but that should also be included in "Environmental Changes".  Similarly, 'the Mesmers Burden' quest removes the level 5 'Rogue Bull' from 'Lakeside County' on completion.  This kind of thing is often mentioned in the 'Notes', but is not there consistently.

You are right to point out that I had not mentioned it in the discussion and should do so before putting it in the Guideline.  I did ask for a confirmation that the 'Early Benifits' section could be added, but got no response.  I am trying to gauge how long to wait before assuming that there no objections.  I get the feeling that I should do something slightly different to make sure I am not assuming too much.      mtew 09:10, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

The Quest Review tree now has real content.  I will pull the lists by category but not right now.      mtew 21:20, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
I think the "environmental changes" are already covered in location pages and the npc section of quest pages. The npc section is relatively new so not all quests have that info. The formatting for locations have changed so often that I'm not sure if the information is still listed there or moved. Last I remember, there was disagreement on where the info should be. Probably better to add any clarification and details in the npc or notes section.
I also got the impression that the only objections people had to "early benefits" was the name. I don't think you need to wait since the discussion looks like it died off anyway. I guess if someone really feels strongly about it they will revert the changes and hopefully discuss the issue. Tedium 06:09, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
OK, the sections to the guidelines have been added. I also split the report into a template parameter based version and the category based version. Finally I asked for a bot run that puts basic status information on the discussion pages. Poke hasn't blessed it yet, so it may take a while...      mtew 08:06, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
