Guild Wars 3 Alpha Testing[edit]

Hello everyone, I cleared out the old messages for some great news. The powers that be got in touch with me and asked ME to alpha test the new Guild Wars 3. That is a working title. They might call it Guild Wars XD or Guild Wars NG. But I made all my characters here in Guild Wars up in the new and improved "4D formats" so if you want a sneak peek look at my character links... Red Death Witch, Dirk Dark Phoenix, Su Doku Jedi, Kashi Uejini, Kukull Phanto Pyped, Baron Velspa, Azurial Mentalice, and Shade of Velspa. Now if you feel the need to report me for a serious breech of the NDA please do so here Report Violation of Nondisclosure Agreement. --Wendy Black 20:24, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

ok you got me... I am definitely buying THAT when it comes out. Simon of Aragon - talk 05:56, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
Well that was my April Fool's Day joke. I am leaving the banner up for the month of April on my front page. You and still see the Chibis on the links below but I am taking them off the character pages for now.

New Forum to Explore[edit]

Hey Wendy, I haven't been on in a while now. Looks like I missed my chance to purchase some items from the game store. They seem to have eliminated items when they moved the store. I also found a new GW forum called Guild Wars Reborn the owner is trying to get players together. Simon of Aragon - talk

Ok good to hear from you. I just looked and they don't have some of the costumes. --Wendy Black 18:36, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
I recently visited that link and it appears the forum closed. --Wendy Black 04:20, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
I've been trying to contact the administrator and he seems to not be online much, if ever. Not sure what's up with that. Too bad, too! - Infinite - talk 09:02, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
Appears to be from a monthly cost of operation. It was probably a poor idea to go with a monthly service fee. I would have gone either a zero cost forum (ProPhpbb or ProBoards) or just paid an annual fee. After all, Rome wasn't built in a day. --Wendy Black 18:48, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Hey there[edit]

I read your character pages the other day, and I really like them. Very in-depth. - Alexis Toran (talk) 11:00, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Thank you, I am a role player from way back. I used to play in 80's with dice and paper. That is how I met my husband. We miss the old days sitting around the card table tossing dice. Nice of you to drop in and say hello. --Wendy Black 11:22, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
I'm something of a roleplayer myself, and I make backstories for all my characters. It's nice to see someone else doing the same (and better, IMO). I particularly like Velspa's story, clever of you to make different versions in pre and post... - Alexis Toran (talk) 11:59, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

mmo roleplay[edit]

Hi Wendy, I have read one of your older posts dating back to 2011/12. I am looking to find a roleplay guild or group of people in one of the mmo games. I have all the popular ones, Rift, Guild Wars 2, Wow. More recently tried Secret World, and presently trying out Arch Age as I was told that has very good roleplay elements in the game. I am wondering where you are now in the gaming world, and if it might be possible for me to join you. I am of similar age, and my husband would be interested in joining too. We are in the UK but play on EU or American servers.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hello Chrissy, I will be sure to contact you by email, but also wanted to fix your message so it is only human readable. I don't get to RP much these days. I "get away" with it a lot more on Guild Wars than I do on any other MMO. Meaning players seem to comprehend more here than they do in other games. Maybe I don't get taken as serious as I do in those other games. Once in a while I dust off the vain and egotistical Dirk and head off to get some laughs. I was/am on Rift but my account there has been stagnate for months mainly due to graphics issues. People there keep telling me to get a better graphics card, but that isn't possible with my laptop. I haven't done much character development on D&D Neverwinter (by Cryptic). I mainly got on there to make some mission stories with the game editor. I finished one and working on making another. At the request of a friend I also made a superhero on Champions Online. I don't own Guild Wars 2 yet, I don't think my laptop is up to it. --Wendy Black 00:30, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Hope to see you this weekend online[edit]

I know you check in here more so than your email. I know this weekend starts off the Halloween activities. I should be online getting some or most of the quests done. I sent you an email with my new cell number but I don't know what your schedule is like. Post me a time here to get online or just call me. Also since your birthday is just a week away, I will wish you a premature happy birthday. Simon of Aragon - talk

I don't think they will get the Halloween quests up that quick, but I should be online late Saturday and Sunday. I have been sleeping in a lot and I am thinking after 6PM? I know you like your evenings out at the casino and such, but I am online until the wee hours of the morning. Thanks for the birthday wishes, I will be 49 next week. Brian and I are thinking about dinner and a movie. --Wendy Black 22:13, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Dinner and a movie eh? Are you talking burgers, fries, and a bootleg download or steak, wine, and tickets to a show? lol Most of my dates are the first option, maybe that explains the way they end. I got online and missed you by 2 hours according to the guild log. I didn't bother calling you, since I got all 8 of the main quests done without much effort. I even did the Underworld and got to the Frozen King. I have a stack of ToTs and more and it only took about 4 to 5 hours in total. I got my witch hat and mummy mask this time around. Feel free to call me but for the love of God not at 3 AM on the weekdays. :D Simon of Aragon - talk
Somewhere between those two. Probably go to Applebee's then watch something on Netflix at home. I am on and off all the time. There is a part two to the solo mission where you find reapers and that takes a lot of time. I still have reaper tonics from last year when I did that run. It is a lot of work for the reward. Don't worry about me calling you, I will just watch for you online. --Wendy Black 06:31, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Answer to Azurial's Puzzle[edit]

Over Halloween Azurial has been asking about a puzzle the voices in her head have told her is the "secret of the universe".

I will ask you a question about a puzzle in my head,
If you are wise and think it through you won't be dead.
Who writes the words that allow the Gods to play games chance?
Can spiders read and write in the web as they graceful dance?
Does the spider's web contain all the worlds within its fate?
Why do the trolls run rampant with their hate?
The answer is much easier to open than these locks,
All our worlds are within an empty box.

SPOILER WARNING

Azurial is a lot like the Marvel character Dead Pool, because she is told by the voices in her head, the universe she lives in is a PC video game. The game is hosted on a web. And a PC is nothing more than an empty box.

--Wendy Black 03:52, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
That was cool, did anyone get it right and win the ectos? --Simon of Aragon - talk 23:33, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

Temple Run[edit]

The new guy in the guild is up to the temple in Factions. I got creamed about half way through. I know you are better at it, as I recall it is best to use ranged fighters. If you have time and see Ares online, you might want to advise him on the mission. I already informed him the clock is bunk, just there to force you into making critical mistakes. I think you or one of the other guild members ran me through this before. I just can't stand these "protection" missions. If I bump into him online, I will try to help him. Since we are both warriors they follow us into the thick of battle. Is there a way to hold Togo and Mhenlo back at all? --Simon of Aragon - talk 23:30, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

I wrote up a henchman build here on the discussion. But overall yes you do need to allow the ranged fighters to attack first and use any warriors to defend them as they are attacked by the melee combat. I know you can sometimes (as you and I did in Dasha Vestibule) use one player to hold back an AI while the team clears the path. This is not an option in Tahnnakai Temple. --Wendy Black 01:12, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Thank you[edit]

I left you a message on FB and have been glancing through your works.I am not a starker and I am 20 years your senior and just enjoy playing GW for better part of 10 years now.My real name is Lloyd Walker and can be found on FB.I did belong to mature Guilds that have since declined in members for GW. MARA, and TOG where my guilds for years, and I can be found on both their FB pages.I love what you have created here and would like advice on creating a page for my GW story. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.0.43.233 (talk) at 13:28, 11 March 2015 (UTC).

All you really need to do Lloyd, is get yourself a wiki account. Once you got that, just tell me your User ID. Anyone can edit your pages for you. They don't need a password or even to be signed in. It was an immediate process before then a bunch of spam bots started making bogus accounts. So I think there is some kind of verification procedure now. --Wendy Black 14:51, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

Looking for Lost Mods[edit]

I came across this user page User:Gorm, showing some nice texture mods. I like the idea of the adrenaline meter and it really is too bad the developers never incorporated an option to display one in the game. Don't bother looking for the mods Gorm made, they seem to have expired. I don't use TexMod, I use uMod, if or when I desire a new look. Universal Modding Engine is based off the same TexMod, TexMod was never developed much beyond use with Tomb Raider. Yes, they stopped working it back when God spoke to Moses. This new bunch of people continued the work in the Summer of 2012 and apparently it works with all DirectX versions up to 11. TexMod won't work beyond DirectX 9.
If you don't understand what TexMod or uMod does, it is not hacking your game. It replaces the textures in any game using DirectX. Meaning you are the only one who sees the replacement. The textures are normally pulled from your GW.DAT and sent through DirectX to your display. This program looks for the serial number of the texture to be replaced and trades it for the one you want to see. The only thing the developers of Guild Wars add to using this is the "try at your own risk" butt shield clause. You don't get banned for use of TexMod or uMod. In fact it has been used by players to correct graphic errors and submit the "fix" to the developers who actually said Thanks! by adding them in game.
You can find both uMod and TexMod at this link.

Wendy Black 22:38, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

So UMod will run anything already supported by TexMod? Should we update CME and other user-created mod articles with this info? --Falconeye (talk) 02:42, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
I think so, I just happened to come across another player modding his with TexMod on Facebook. I got to feeling kind of nostalgic about all the mods I made of this kind and lost because I never made a backup copy. Then I noticed the mod database on the wiki is lacking in links to viable mod files as well. Wendy Black 07:21, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
UMod is just a better alternative to TexMod. It supports TexMod package files, doesn't have the graphical corruption bugs that TexMod has, and features predefined profiles (meaning you can choose mods to automatically load on game startup). Now I know why I didn't like the word "content". Users are not adding content to the game (such as quests, NPCs etc. like you can do in other games). They're simply modifying it. I've typed and erased a few terrible suggestions for the root page which use "Modifications". I'm not happy with any of them, but I think that word would be more accurate. G R E E N E R 12:40, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
I am not particular about the names, just about anything is shorter and more to the point than what is there now. I mean would you really call it a guide? "Guide to modifying in-game graphics", as it stands now, is just a redirect to TexMod setup and operation. I really wish people would pitch us some creative ideas. Then would you call the root page "Player Made Modifications"? I was going to say user but then the acronym would be UMM? o.O --Wendy Black 14:48, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
Guilty as charged boss lady, I am sorry to get you upset. I should have commented here and not on the Facebook. As I said, They look Great and I really believe they convey information better. As far as any criticism... I am just doctor, I guess you can tell everyone it works for me. So one out one doctors approve? Other than that I never was a superb English major. ;D In fact, I made 4 spelling mistakes just tying this up. Thank God for spell checker! or I would look like an idiot. Simon of Aragon - talk
Thank you Simon. I don't know why everyone on Facebook believes they are a lawyer or a spokesman of ArenaNet and has to turn stuff into a debate about software EULAs. --Wendy Black 20:25, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
You know, I'd almost go with UMM as I'm sure I'd never forget it! PMM would work quite well. G R E E N E R 23:34, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
I will leave it up to you and Silver Edge to deal with now. No hurry, maybe someone will get off Facebook long enough to form an opinion. --Wendy Black 08:01, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

I really know nothing of modes, but I'm interested in your work, if it is O.K. to follow you. -- 73.226.44.151 18:36, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

I agree to go with Player-made Modifications. Just make sure that it's grammatically correct (Player-made Modifications). They are made by players like you and me, not users. =) Pious Haste.jpg God Of Fissures 23:58, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
Got it God of Fissures! Must be an English teacher. ;D Thanks for your support.
To the anonymous post above; basically I am just cleaning up pages that are already there. For example: This link is the original page and this link is my remake. But it is not just about cleaning up these pages appearance; The paths (hierarchy) are buried in layers that are illogical. Take for example the two links I just used. "User:Wendy_Black/UGC_Project/Monsters_and_Characters_Index" will be moved at a later date to something along the lines of "Player-made Modifications/Monsters_and_Characters_Index" which in my opinion is a lot better than "Guide_to_modifying_in-game_graphics/Texmod/Player_made_modifications/Creature_skins" all those layers are unnecessary. TexMod guide would get moved as a root page and uMod has a guide off site, at present I see no need to create a uMod guide here. If you are interested in these programs, please know they are not supported by ArenaNet. In my opinion, they are safe to use, but I am not a representative of ArenaNet or NCSoft. The company has stated "it is unlikely that we would actively pursue or action those who use such programs in a positive manner" but that doesn't mean they won't decide at a later date to do otherwise and that is why all these are to be used at your own risk. The official statement is almost like saying, "If you play with matches, you may get burned. Don't come to us, we are not the fire department.". You are welcome to follow me anytime. --Wendy Black 10:46, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Hey Wendy, I am still at work mapping out all of the needed changes (it's a terrible rats' nest of redirects and links, as I'm sure you're aware). I won't be moving TexMod into its own Mainspace article; we save that as best as we can for game content. How would Player-made Modifications/TexMod work for you? G R E E N E R 01:32, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

Works fine by me. I am making note of it in the table above. Like I told the anonymous poster, less layers the better. But I wasn't thinking about it, your 100% correct, this wiki is about Guild Wars and not other programs we happen to use. Players are lucky this information is available here and they don't have to run off to some modding forum as in other games. Tell me your opinion, do you think any information should be moved or saved on the Guide_to_modifying_in-game_graphics/Texmod/Creating_Mods page? That to me seems at best is just an extension of the TexMod page. --Wendy Black 14:35, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
I thought I had accounted for every page... Anyways, given that these pages are not for the general reader, I see no reason to limit their sizes too much. We have a TOC, so the dedicated reader can travel the page using that. Put the info onto the TexMod page.
And thanks for having a duplicate version above. Very useful! G R E E N E R 17:18, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
Come to think of it now, it should be a matter of copy, cut, and paste. Check the links and add redirects at the top of the old pages pointing to the new, improved, and approved. If you trust me, just give me the green light Greener. lol --Wendy Black 19:59, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
Player-made Modifications/Guild Capes may need some TLC.
I did appreciate the offer, Wendy, but with the number of redirects which had to be deleted I'd rather have done it myself (and moving pages automatically creates even more redirects which would have had to be hunted down and deleted later).
As with any project, my list of to-dos may not have been complete, or I may have overlooked some old pages, etc. Please go over the new pages and ensure that all the information is still intact. Thanks! G R E E N E R 05:38, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
No offense to those who mod or want to add a bit of color, but guild cape? Being a small guild leader myself, I couldn't imagine everyone in my guild wanting to run the same mod to see the custom cape. Everyone else is just going to see the standard image. Well everything looks good to me. I hope others appreciate it too. --Wendy Black 22:01, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi Wendy[edit]

hi Wendy, i was just in game with you, me to i have been playing the game for quite some time, tho i must admit am not really good with the legendary defender of ascalon for that character you just helped in there has been there for at least 6 years.Been on and off playing the game since the release of guild wars 2. i like the way you showcase your characters. they all have a lil story behind them and i must admit i am pleased to have met Mr. Velspa.mabe if i see u around u could show me how u came to level 20 as to where i got to level 14 i stoped gaining any exp from kills .

hope to see around again some time.

Antingoman. aka : I Love Silent

No problem there, I wrote this page up about my method of making it to LDoA. Down at the bottom of that page is the meat and potatoes. I milked the Utini Wupwup quest for all it was worth. The biography of each character is part of my "role-playing" just like an actor likes to get into character. I need to make up a backstory and get motivation as to why my characters do the things they do. Baron Velspa has been a prankster and loves life but his dark side didn't show itself until he lost his ancestral home just north of the wall. Being a homeless royal is not easy. He now lives with Farmer Hamnet and his wife. The Baron died in the searing giving him a perfect reason not to leave presearing Ascalon. If you know the place where Farmer Hamnet stands in post outside the old abbey, that is where the Baron met his end. Thanks for stopping by! Wendy Black 02:24, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
