Userbar

I need to put the images of my characters on the right of this template:

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User:Highlander_Immortal/PvE_Characters

How can i do? Tnx (Highlander Immortal 09:11, 28 February 2009 (UTC))

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by to the right of the template... do you mean within the box next to their name? or in the blank space? --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 14:10, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Like in this image: www.borntobekings.altervista.org/userbar.png (Highlander Immortal 18:01, 28 February 2009 (UTC))
To do that means creating a 3 part userbox template rather than a 2 part that is used now. Take a look at {{userbox2}}. I think that would work. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 15:55, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Perfect. Thanks (Highlander Immortal 20:52, 1 March 2009 (UTC))

Do you think you could help a newbie to wiki make an awesomeuserpage like your? I already have Why helping me, but I really like your userpage. You can eitehr post back here or on my user talkpage Sentry007 User Sentry007 sig.png 15:56, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

I have several Templates available for you to use, they are linked on my userpage, They are relatively easy to use and will achieve the basic affect of my page. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 16:08, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
I know I sound like a kid, but I am finding those templates rather complicated >.< Sentry007 User Sentry007 sig.png 16:52, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the help

Wyn, Thanks for the help on my guild page. I wanted to set something like that up but couldn't find out how to set up a new page. I very new to this sort of thing and need all the help I can get. Do I add more screens to the gallery page the same way I edit the main page? And do I add the gallery link the same way? Thanks again.

Titles

wyn how do u add titles to yr page i,ll try myself but it doesn,t work for me lol ( Nemis troy 20:09, 4 March 2009 (UTC) )

I don't know what is wrong with the titles on your necro page, I can only assume it has to do with copying the raw code from my page and not getting something right, and I'm not going to try to fix it. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 00:38, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Delete Uncontested? WTF

You deleted this page... Isle of the Bombard I haven't been paying attention to my watch list for a while. When I log back on and check it... this page that I removed from the wanted pages list is now suddenly gone. Is there a particular reason you decided to delete it? It is a part of a group of landmarks that someone apparently thought were important enough to include in the wiki. You know... DOCUMENTING THE GAME. Considering that there are 12 other landmarks that you didn't delete can you tell me why this single one was deleted? As a sysop you should be a little more thorough in your research before you click the delete button. Unless of course the Isle of Bombard doesn't exist in which case you should have fixed the template and all the links leading back to the page when you deleted it. Elric 17:15, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Documenting something implies that there is something said about it. Like a short description or something like that.
The page was tagged for having "no information whatsoever" and I agree, it had no idea. Pages that are tagged for deletion, stay on the wiki for 3 days according to the deletion policy; during that time people can oppose on the talk page - that was not done, so the deletion was uncontested. Everything is correct. poke | talk 17:21, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Only technically correct... And I do believe pages without enough information are called stubs Elric 17:22, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
No, pages that have content but are missing more information are called stubs. Pages that have no information at all are just redundant. poke | talk 17:23, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
ok.. explain to me how something that is repeated NO WHERE ELSE is redundant. Do you want to try a different word? Elric 17:25, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
"repeated"? I think you used a wrong word there... Nevertheless, what you probably mean is that the page is not mentioned somewhere - but it actually is. It is mentioned on the template for example. And if there is nothing to say about it, a red link says more than a page with nothing on it.
You want to clean up the WantedPages? Obviously you have no idea what the special page is for, because creating main space articles with no content at all just to have them not listed in there is exactly not what the special page is for. poke | talk 17:32, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
poke is right here. no need to blow a gasket since there wasn't any info on the page. --VVong|BA 17:36, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Wanted pages (ideally) exists so people can see pages that we don't have anything on, so if they know enough about it to make a page, they can. Please explain how creating an empty page to get it off the wanted pages list helps anybody. - Tanetris 18:13, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Especially as nobody thinks of going through the stubs and completing them... ;) poke | talk 20:30, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
As everyone has indicated, It was a blank page, and I did not decide to delete it, it was tagged for deletion as a blank page, and I simply deleted it after the 3 days had passed and there were no objections to delete it. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:39, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Check Super Battle Vandal 2 Archive First

After you hate me for putting up a long title, I was thinking in the section of "Before posting an issue here,..." Why not add something along the lines of "Check if the vandal has already been reported. Please refrain from posting the same vandal multiple times.", or since some vandals tend to go blocked but unreported in the Admin Noticeboard, why not put a link to the block log right there? It may save time for newbs and veteran alike(Yeah, it just thought about it).--ShadowFog 18:54, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

It's fine ShadowFog, it's easy to miss a block in RC. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 18:56, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Wynthyst! Are you implying that I look at Recent Changes? Nah... I'm watching Shard's page and Yasmin Parvaneh posted something about Vent and his NPA just got the curiosity of me and saw Ip's contribution(Why am I explaining this?). I'm still wondering if it was random. If you think the page at Admin is ok as it is, it's fine I guess.--ShadowFog 19:17, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
I think the thinking is, we would rather have extra entries than have stuff go unreported. There is no harm in the extras. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 19:19, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

LOL! You get points for eloquence :P --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 01:29, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

To be quite honest, I was sick to my stomach. I felt so horrible that I had done something without permission of the original author. I am just so used to fixing what needs to be fixed and quick editing small portions of text that I just wasn't using my better judgment. Again, I apollogies for my unwarranted behavior.Shard Falcors 02:53, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

It's fine, it's just you aren't the only one using those templates... so changes you make affect others as well, and I was in the middle of a FOW clear, so I couldn't really look at what all you were doing. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 03:32, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Guild Cape Image Help

Hello, I wonderd if you might be able to help me with some difficulty I'm having on a seemingly simple task... >.< I was trying to update our guilds cape image, and everytime I upload the image it defaults to the old one even if I name it something different. I'm going to continue to try, but is there a way to delete the old one, and start new? or maybe there's a simpler way I'm just not seeing. The Night Talons [TNT] Any help would be greatly appreciated. Knightwind 15:05, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

The issue is the server image cache. It often takes several hours for it to resolve new versions of images. By continuing to upload new versions, or revert to previous ones, you simply make the problem worse. Be patient. If it hasn't resolved in a couple of hours, try purging your browser cache (Ctrl + F5). --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 15:39, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Guild Page

I can't belive you think you have the permission to edit guild pages without asking. Your terrible at it as well (no offense) you totally messed up my guild wiki page the other day it looked terrible. You should at least ask before you do anything I wouldunt mind so much if you atleast told the owner you were going to do it. You've edited my other guild wiki pages in the past. And everyone was getting fed up... So you can't just say you don't see why I have a problem with you terribly formatting wiki pages. Well if you don't want people to rant like me atleast ask the owner of the page so see if they actually want it done? Ok I hope I have taught you something.

Yo Jm (talkcontribslogsblock log)

As we have discussed in game, I made 2 minor changes to your page to facilitate the layout. Your assessment that I "totally messed up" your page is extreme to the point of ridiculous. As for editing pages in the past, the only editing I do is to either bring a page into conformity with formatting guidelines or remove policy violations, generally after a page has been tagged for clean up, thus sparing the page from being deleted entirely. As part of general maintenance, I will also fix links if images are improperly named, which in your case has happened more than once. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 23:44, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Goodbye

Hi Wyn, I just wanted to thank you for being such a good friend throughout the time of playing. I have decided to leave Guild Wars, I am tired of the drama and everything else that I has been going on. Today was the last straw. This has nothing to do with GWW, you, or the guild. I will miss you the most out of anyone here and I hope we can stay in touch. Please forgive me for doing this, but I can't take it anymore. You are one of the best friends I have ever had. Thanks so much for everything. --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 23:02, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

guildwars is pve game

Why have 95% of skill rebalances been done with PvP in mind, then? That would seem to imply that ANet considers Guild Wars as mainly a PvP game...or rather, that that is the most important aspect. Vili User talk:Vili 09:28, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

I would guess it has as much to do with the vocal minority. The simple fact that skill balance has very little impact on pve. At least in my experience. You rarely find anyone pissing and moaning walls of text worth of QQ about pve skill balance, with the exceptions of Ursan and Shadow Form. I do believe the pve player base is the majority. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 09:53, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Compare guild wars to games like WoW. In WoW there's a lot of emphasis on your character being self-sufficient; much of the time spent playing you're perfectly fine doing it alone. Guild Wars is the opposite; it is most definitely a game focused around team play. Because of this (and things like limiting people to eight skills at a time), the organized PvP is the "highest form" of guild wars. Rather than assembling a team of eight players to play against computer-controlled enemies with set skills, predictable reactions, and highly abusable AI flaws, you're assembling a team of eight to fight another team of eight with unknown skills, human intelligence and the ability to adapt. Regardless of the relative sizes of the PvE and PvP community, Guild Wars is a PvP game. Skill balance has little effect on PvE because, while PvP has ended up being basically a large game of rock-paper-scissors, PvE is a game of rock-paper-scissors where you know exactly what your opponent is going to throw, in which direction he's going to throw it, and when he's going to throw it; so no matter what he has, you can bring a team and/or use a strategy that is almost guaranteed to beat it. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 23:05, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
I still disagree with your assessment though I'm sure you believe everything you are saying. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 23:27, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
You're all right in some regard. GW used to be a game where you could do both pve and pvp...then everyone decided it was better to push into groups of either or. Now it is a pve game where it used to be a game of both and all the really good pvp players have moved on with the exception of a few who want to finish off some stuff on their characters or log in out of bordom.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 23:32, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Wyn, Shard asked me to revert Boro's change to his user page, however, I was in a HA map and forgot to sign in when I did the revert for him. I have been collecting guild hall images to make them available to everyone rather than see them get deleted as being orphaned, hence my special page of guild hall images. I don't care if you move them all to my userspace, but I would rather see them named for global use... --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 18:14, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Eh, I mainly suggested the userspace move because thats how the many of them are, but anything works, really. --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 22:09, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

/facepalm ><. Okay then, would it be okay to move it to global space then? --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 22:12, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
WT, I don't care where you move them, I was simply trying to keep nice screenshots of guild halls from being deleted as orphaned without encumbering the Not Orphaned page, and to provide a central repository for them. Many guilds want to include a guild hall screenshot on their wiki page, but don't know how to take/upload images. I was eventually going to propose a mainspace gallery page for them all, I just haven't gotten around to it. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 22:16, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Mmk, I'll put in the mainspace for now, I guess. --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 22:17, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Skill Feedback

Since Linsey has basically taken over Izzy's spot 100% now, knowing her the skill feedback will probably get combed through more. I didn't want to needlessly add topics to her page, so I was jw if you think there's anything that could be done to improve it for her or if she thinks there's anything needed? I'm asking because personally I think it could use a massive archive of all the current problems and just start over come April. There are tons of outdated issues, issues that don't make sense with the new metas, issues that don't matter at this point, etc. The monster skill section also seems slightly redundant, could just merge that with the PvE skill section imo. I know you talk to her often, so was wondering if you could maybe find out her thoughts etc when you have time, or something. The discussion page for it seems inactive... DarkNecrid 12:43, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

You are always welcome to archive issues that have been resolved through skill updates, etc. I don't see doing a massive archive of issues as being a productive way to go. I think looking through the issues that are posted and determining which are still issues and simply archiving those that aren't would be better. I know she has asked on her journal for assistance identifying monster (hostile) skill bars that have become non functional due to skill changes. What she has expressed to me (as recently as yesterday) is that she doesn't want skill balance discussions on her page, she wants to see them go to the centralized Skill feedback pages, rather than fragmenting the discussions in multiple places (which was the initial intent of the skill feedback pages in the first place). That way, when it comes time for her to consider the skill changes needed she has all the discussion/feedback in one area rather than trying to sift through multiple conversations which may have been archived etc. She may or may not comment or participate in discussions, but I believe she will be looking at them, and is already for that matter. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 12:55, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Alright, that comes up to my next question then! In the current implementation of the Skill Feedback system, skills that are considered resolved aren't actually archived, they are moved into a section called "Issues Resolved by Isaiah". The problem with this is that it's assuming that they may have fixed all the issues regarding a skill (in most cases it has) but if there is a new issue, you can't actually put that up top unless if you move it from the bottom. So how should I go about archiving these outdated issues? Where should I move them etc? I have tons of free times today, so I have no problem spending the next few hours combing through all the skill pages for outdated issues and archiving them, just need to know how I should go about actually archiving them. :) (The front page could use a slight update too, since it's not actually just Isaiah, might have to change that.) DarkNecrid 13:03, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Ok, so we set up archives for old stuff. See ArenaNet:Skill feedback/Warrior. We will have to keep the discussion with each issue that is archived. But I think having a separate archive page for each attribute within each profession would be the best. Of course if someone else has a better way to archive this stuff, feel free to jump in. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 13:26, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Alright, looks good. So for example http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/ArenaNet:Skill_feedback/Warrior/Axe_Rake would become http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/ArenaNet:Skill_feedback/Warrior/resolved_Axe_mastery/Axe_Rake correct? :) When you move a page does the discussion follow with it, or do I have to move both separately? Thank you for the help. DarkNecrid 13:42, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
No, you can't do it that way, since there are multiple issues for each skill. The archival is going to be a bit of a pain, due to how those pages were set up in the first place, but you will have to cut the resolved issue and it's corresponding discussion off the skill page and paste it on to the appropriate archive page... --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 13:49, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
I did a couple of the axe mastery ones as an example (I simply went by date, I did not read issues so if I archived something that is still an issue, please put it back). I was simply trying to give you an example. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 14:03, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
I did a test one for Hundred Blades, archiving all ideas prior to its Elite skill update: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/ArenaNet:Skill_feedback/Warrior/resolved_Swordsmanship. Did I do it correctly? I haven't archived the actual pages yet, since I want to make sure I moved the content over correctly, but I will once I get the OK that I did it right! DarkNecrid 14:21, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, just make sure you correct any discussion links to point to the archive talk page. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 14:24, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Small request

I posted an idea to improve the Guides section awhile ago but it's hard for people to notice, was wondering if you could sneak a peek and see what you think: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Category_talk:Guides. The basic idea is to rework the Category:Guides structure so that it is easier to get content from for the casual user by putting important completed game guides to the front and technical guides like how to run GW on an emulator into a sub-section. :) I'm pretty desperate for thoughts because I don't want to go and rummage around there (although I've never done anything with categories on a Wiki, so I have no clue how to work that, someone else might have to do it) without a consensus if it should be done or not, y'know? please help wyn

im not such pro at using wiki :P. i posted an event on my talkpage and i forgot "half dont know how to remove the previous talk" so i just thaught i would ask for your help. Also i would like to ask how to add a random image, i looked at the user guide and wiki code is odd. thanksDisaproval 20:44, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Everyone has to start somewhere :D If you have things you'd like to promote, like an event, rather than putting them on your talk page (which belongs to the community and has rules about removing things) create a subpage in your userspace (User:Disaproval/<Event>) That way if you decide you don't want to keep it after the event, you can simply tag it for deletion. As for adding an image, the easiest way is to create the link on the page where you want the image to be [[File:User Disaproval <image name>.<extension>]] This will create a red link that you can click to take you to the Upload page. Make sure you have read our Image use policy and Copyright policy. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 05:58, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

This

If you feel that I should not hold on to that and keep it in my user space, let me know and I'll take it down. Also, if you feel the need to clean it up, rephrase it, or anything along those lines, feel free. My aim is to build up a list of articles we can pull for reference instead of having to restate ourselves and cover the same topics in depth multiple times. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 04:44, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Well, first, those statements were made as part of a larger discussion that will get archived, second, once Linsey has time to deal with wiki issues, I believe she will be implementing more posting rules, depending on how it works out having stuff linked to user pages. It was an idea she agreed with when I talked to her about it in an effort to put the brakes on the massive discussions that go on when she is unable to maintain it regularly due to other priorities (like the April update). It's more to control the sheer size of her page, rather than having to limit people's access to her by locking her pages. When she is not so busy, and has time for the wiki, we already have the templates in place so she can tell us where to put things. That will help her keep things managed with some basic archiving assistance. Just so you know, I don't just pull this stuff out of thin air. In most cases everything I have done on Linsey's page has been after discussing it with her. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 05:52, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
I'm sure of that, but this I kept it not just in regards to Linsey's page. Similar measures to keep discussions from spiraling out of control or in some unrelated direction could be useful. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 12:40, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
