Equipment pertains to items that are equipped by the character in their inventory and used in combat, both in offense and defense.

They are of two main kinds: armor and weapons1.

Equipment slots[edit]

Each character has a total of seven equipment slots: two equippable item slots, and five armor slots.

They are visible in the Inventory panel.

Equippable Item slots[edit]

A character can either wield a two-handed weapon, or a one-handed weapon with an off-hand item. Both slots are always available to place the respective items2:

Armor slots[edit]

There are five slots for armor pieces of the respective body parts: head, chest, hands, legs and feet.

Some have a higher chance of being hit than others, and as such also provide higher bonuses from insignias unrelated to the armor rating.

Changing equipment[edit]

  • In PvE, equipment can be changed in all outposts and at any time.
  • In PvP, it is not possible to change your armor during PvP encounters, but you can change your weapon and off-hand.
    • Equipment can be managed and loaded from templates by using the PvP Equipment panel.

Customized equipment[edit]

Customized weapons can only be used by the character they are customized for, or that character's heroes.

Some equipment is automatically customized:

  • Armor of any kind
  • PvP equipment
  • Weapons obtained from certain collectors

A customized main hand weapon will receive a 20% damage enhancement. They can be customized manually by bringing them to a weaponsmith for a fee of 10Gold

Notes[edit]

  1.  Players commonly refer to any equippable item as "weapon". The official in-game terminology excludes offhand items when using the term "weapon", whereas "equippable item" is used to also refer to focus items and shields. As reference for this classification, see Inscription types.
  2.  There is no dual weapon wielding (or dual shield wielding) in Guild Wars.
