Alphabet[edit]

Lol missed the alphabetical order bit, sorry ;) --Lemming64 12:44, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

Heh. I'm thinking that I'll be fixing that a fair number of times - every single person that's added their name so far (granted, two people =P) has messed that up XD I've bolded that section of the instructions to try to prevent that =) MisterPepe talk 12:45, 23 April 2007 (EDT)
Boo to alphabetic order! There's two people ahead of me on the list already! Grrr, unacceptable! :P --Dirigible 10:00, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

Wikipedians?[edit]

Shouldn't it be "Guild Wars Wikians" not "... Wikipedians"? --Rainith 17:00, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

youre right, but i'm not changing it ~ KurdKurdsig.png17:18, 24 April 2007 (EDT)
=P It sounds better this way. Technically, "Wiki" is short for a "Wikipedia," so there's a decent chance that both are correct. I might change it anyway, though =\ MisterPepe talk 17:25, 24 April 2007 (EDT)
No no, wiki is not short for wikipedia. It is short for WikiWikiWeb, which was around for quite some time before wikipedia was - see wikipedia's page on wikis. So wikipedians is pretty incorrect as a wikipedian is an editor of the wikipedia - not an editor of any wiki. --Aspectacle 18:52, 24 April 2007 (EDT)
Bah. I fail. I'll go change it, then T_T MisterPepe talk 18:53, 24 April 2007 (EDT)
Thanks Aspectacle and Pepe.  :) I had the discussion more than once on GuildWiki that "Wiki" <> "Wikipedia". --Rainith 18:57, 24 April 2007 (EDT)
Could we use the term "users" instead of "Guild Wars Wikians" here? I'd think that would be slightly more understandable for new users. --Rezyk 20:18, 24 April 2007 (EDT)

Double listing[edit]

Some users are listed twice in the category (or more specifically their infobox subpage is). May I suggest those people remove the autocat from the userbox (subst and then edit) and make sure it's only on their main page? - BeX iawtc 05:59, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

You could note those users on their talk pages. :) -- Gem (gem / talk) 07:00, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Doesn't anyone put an includeonly tag on their infobox subpage? :S --Santax (talk · contribs) 07:05, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
I don't think alot of people know about includeonly and double categorizing :P It's better to notify the specific users on their talk page, imo. - anja talk (contribs) 08:07, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
I notified them and said to come here for how to fix it, cause I wouldn't know how cause I've never looked at the userbox. :P - BeX iawtc 09:35, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the notify I have fixed mine. I probably wouldn't of noticed that. --Sktbrd341 14:56, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Well its weird because I have the actual user-box in my main edit, and not my sub-section for user boxes, yet it still shows up that I have two of them. I will look further into fixing this. -- File:Blackgeneralstar.png (General | Talk) 08:28, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
It looked to me like your box was on User:BlackGeneral/UserBoxes. - BeX iawtc 08:35, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, It was my mistake. I know why it shows twice, and if you look at my user page, I have the boxes placed there. Like I said before, but I really didn't have them that way. As for putting them in a sub section and them showing twice, I have no clue on how to fix that issue. -- File:Blackgeneralstar.png (General | Talk) 08:38, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

I can try fix it if you want. Just revert to the way you want it to look and I'll have a go. - BeX iawtc 08:49, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Well I actually found out why it didn't look right, so I fixed it, and now its o.k. But It still needs to be looked at. If a user is in a category, whether it be in a sub section or not, it shouldn't show up twice. Maybe there is a way it can be tweaked so it only shows up in the user page. I personally wouldn't know how to do it but if you want go for it. -- File:Blackgeneralstar.png (General | Talk) 08:53, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, inclusions and categories work like that. The only way you can get around it is to not have it, or modify the userbox to stop auto-cat. - BeX iawtc 11:09, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
You also could implement a query that checks if the actual page is a root-user page like User:Example and not User:Example/subpage poke | talk 11:35, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Cleaning up list[edit]

Should we clean up this list as some of the users listed here have either quit GWs, or have quite GWW? Like, if a new user comes to this list and picks someone who no longer contributes to GWW, then they wont get any help. Should we say maybe a month without contributions will get you taken off the list? — Eloc 00:11, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree that this list does need some cleaning up of inactive users. I'm not quite sure where to draw the line though, so I'll wait for more suggestions. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 00:21, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
I'd say a Month is plenty of time. — Eloc 03:31, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Maybe a little longer? 2.5 or 3 months perhaps? --People of Antioch talk User People of Antioch sig.png 03:33, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
No edits in 2008 = bye bye. Alright? Calor Talk 03:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
I'd agree with that Calor, but we need a solution that will work year round. PoA, I think 2.5-3 months is a little to long considering that no one would want to wait that long just to get their question answered. — Eloc 04:13, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
They should have gone to someone else by then, but when you place it that way, it is hard to argue with you. I think wiping out the list of old users who do not make an edit in 2008 is good idea, and then placing the month limit there after. --People of Antioch talk User People of Antioch sig.png 04:36, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Why not just post on all inactive helper's talk pages asking for confirmation that they're still able to help? No response in a week = remove from list and notify them of the removal on their talk page. —Tanaric 07:18, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Why not flat out remove them and post a note to that effect on their talk pages? So far as this humble user can see, being removed from the helper list right now doesn't inconvenience anyone that much (there will still be plenty of active helpers left after all). If the users removed are still interested in helping, it's a very simple action/edit to put their name back, and more to the point, the onus is now back on the inactive user to demonstrate their willingness to continue being a helper. --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 08:07, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm cool with that too. Somebody just be bold to solve the problem, if there is one. —Tanaric 08:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Minor observation, remove the helper userbox from users page too (if they have it there) ;-) --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 13:13, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I wonder how often this list is even used... my bot even removed my name from this list. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 13:17, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

I doubt it's used, but we should at least make it appear the wiki does all it can to help out newer users. Calor Talk 17:11, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

I think Poke's edit makes the admins look less like helpers (they're under another column). --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 19:25, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
I tried something at User:Brains12/Sandbox/Helpers --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 19:32, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
It looks of course better but it makes it difficult for new helpers to add themselves. Also to my version: The admins are still under the Helpers section :P poke | talk 19:42, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
But the way they are formatted makes it look like that they are just part of the admin team. Also, if new helpers want to add themselves, they should be relatively knowledgable in wikicode so they should be able to put themselves in --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 19:44, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Have to agree with Brains here. Any seperate listing of admin makes it seem like it's a listing in addition to the helper list, and thus that they should only be contacted for adminastrive issues. Backsword 20:13, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
I also have to agree with Brains about the seperate list for admins since as Backsword mentioned it could suggest that they should only be contacted for admin related issues. Also although I do like the look of his version, I think it might look better with less columns maybe 4 or 5. --Kakarot Talk 20:27, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) uh... coming to think of it, seeing someone is a sysop would me, as a new user, always keep away from asking them. - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 13:07, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

It's probably the other way round for me :P poke | talk 14:13, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
It's the other way for me too, but I've reverted your edits poke. I don't see why we need to maintain a separate listing for admin helpers (it's like saying we're different from the "regular" helpers). The admin noticeboard is on the left menu already so no one will come to this page looking for admin help. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 14:19, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Suggested expansion of Helper Program participant activity.[edit]

I would like to suggest that those who have volunteered to be a part of this program take a more proactive role in assisting new users. Offering greetings, assisting with page formats/coding, understanding of GWW policies. Unlike sysops they wouldn't be 'policing' but offering friendly assistance. Something a bit more personal that a link to a policy page, encouraging the user's initiative in editing. Rather than waiting for a lost user to find your page because they've stumbled upon this project page and randomly chosen your name off the list, I suggest that any helper with a little time check the RC for new users (new pages being created, red (talk) links in signatures, etc. I know we have a lot of self appointed 'welcomers' but making the Helper program more visible to new users would, imo be a good thing.--Go to Wynthyst's Talk page Wynthyst 02:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I dunno Wynthyst...I'm not really allowed to give greetings, lol. — Eloc 15:36, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
