Heroes

How do i create a hero, in prophecies

Heroes aren't available in Prophecies, only Nightfall and Eye of the North. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 18:57, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
If you have a Proph character and have those expansions on your account you can access them after meeting the requirements and reaching Lions Arch, after that you have to play thru those games to do the quest or mission that Unlocks the hero for your character MrPaladin talk 19:02, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Runes

hello anyone? I have some runes that say I get +15 armor while affected by a condition and one that says +10 armor vs. elemental damage/ physical damage. What does it mean by that? and how does affect does it mean by affected by me or I have a condition? 173.33.143.42 21:57, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

It means that the piece of armor that rune/insignia is on gains that bonus while you are fighting. If you are suffering from a condition, you would automatically get a +15 armor buff, or if your foes are using elemental damage or physical damage (whichever is appropriate for that rune/insignia) the specific piece of armor gets a +10 buff. When the bonus is active, you will see the damage you are taking is less. The bonuses are specific to the piece of armor that you have them on. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 22:09, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Zaishen quest requires expansion that I ain't got...

I don't understand this... I got a Zaishen quest that requires access to Vlox's Excavation... but all I own is Prophecies... so how am I supposed to get up there??

Why would the game give quests that cannot be completed on the current account? And how would I be able to tell I don't have the needed expansion to complete a quest?

I thought maybe if I could get to Vlox's Falls I could get there somehow... but now I'm reading about Vlox's Falls *also* being exclusive to Eye of the North...

You can't do the Zquests for areas you can't access. Sorry. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 23:11, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
The quests are global (i.e., everyone gets the same ones at the same time), so there's really no way they can control if players get quests they can do or not.
ArenaNet's probably not too worried about the players who only own some of the games, at least in this particular case. Logic being, if you only own one game, missing out on a Zquest or two is really a minor deal compared to the rest of the content you can't access. I'd imagine it's also a bit of incentive to buy all the games; if you play Guild Wars enough that the Zquests matter to you, they figure you'll go ahead and pick up one of the other campaigns. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 23:51, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Trading between multiple accounts

Hi i had a question, i have 2 Guild wars accounts and i would like to trade some stuff from one account to another and then maybe try and lvl up my other account using my lvl 20 account and i was wondering if it's legal to do so and if my account will get banned or not, if so for how many days? thank you--X-o-b-b-i-t 21:31, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Charming a pet from a monster.

Okay so ive read tons of things on wiki and one that caught my eye was that you can capture a monsters pet through a special procedure. What do i have to do? илья 00:22, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

You can't. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 00:23, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Locations
   * Istan
         o Lahtenda Bog
   * Kourna and Vabbi (Note: Hekets will have charmed them, so they will be tamable by the player only by special manoeuver.)
   * The Battle Isles
o Zaishen Menagerie Grounds (levels 5, 12, 15, and 20, depending on unlock progress)

See. илья 00:33, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Charming pets already charmed by an enemy is impossible. It is possible however to trick monsters into charming something different or to engage them in battle before they charm.
You must know, that a monster used Charm Animal is cast almost instantly. Monsters do not spawn with an already charmed pet, but they spawn at the same location as one, and charm them as soon as they do. You must also know, that monsters don't spawn when you enter the map, but when you're at about double the radar range. Finally, note that this range applies only to players. Heroes don't trigger this spawn.
The trick is to know where the groups with the pet you're looking for spawn, and use the "U" map to flag your heroes and henchmen to that location before entering the range that will make the monsters spawn. After that, when you do enter the range, the monsters will start fighting your heroes and often won't charm the nearby pet.
This isn't that easy to do. Most monsters have some randomness to the place they spawn at, so it may be difficult to place your heroes in the right place. Also, during the battle the pet may get hit by an AoE spell, causing it to become aggressive and it will be killed by someone. That said, I used that trick in a few places to save myself some time while I was filling up my Menagerie. Didn't use it on Hekets though.
If you want a good way to level up pets at the Menagerie, get a hero with a Mending and Flesh of My Flesh. Go spawn a monster in the fenced of area, flag your hero in spell range behind the fence and let the pet kill you over and over. You can use a PvP character. Here's and example. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 00:51, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
I have reason to believe it is possible to capture a pet Devourer with some mad skills and broken PvE shit during Christmas season. I'm going to bug somebody on their feedback page about that, actually. And then tell them to let us capture them without doing all that work, and not just during Wintersday, ffs. —Jette User Jette awesome.png 22:34, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
You can charm a pet that has been charmed by a foe. The trick is you have to kill the foe without killing the charmed pet, which, if you have heroes with you is virtually impossible. Once the foe is dead Charm animal can be used to charm the pet. (I have done it to get an elder white tiger in Factions. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 00:44, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
You sure, Wyn? I've tried it on Spiderfiend's Black Widow and just got an error message. ··· Danny Pew Pew 19:04, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
I think Spiderfriend might be a special case, since her pet shouldn't be charmable outside of the UW. I'll go test the theory now in a minute later when I get to it. —Jette User Jette awesome.png 20:39, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Putting my Guild Wars on different Computer

moved from Help:Ask an account question

I bought a new computer and would like to know if you could give me instructions on how to transfer my game onto the new computer. I have all 4 campains and would like to continue playing them.Thank you.74.229.228.95 03:15, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

All you have to do is install (and download) Guild Wars onto the new computer. Once it's fully installed, all you have to do is log in and your game will be just how it was on your previous computer. You may want to copy your whole GW folder from your previous computer to your new one to save time downloading/installing and to take your templates with you. Sure. Talk to your internet service provider. They can work with you to determine where the lag is occurring.
  • It could be on your end (in which case, it can be fixed by adjusting your computer, router, or cabling).
  • It could be on Arena Net's end (in which case, you can open a support ticket with the evidence from the ISP and ANet is more likely to act).
  • It could be an ISP issue (in which case, the ISP is responsible for fixing it).
  • It could be somewhere in the wide world of the internet, which would be harder to address.
Regardless, ANet will (with good reason) assume that they are not responsible for the lag... until you take the first step of contacting your ISP. Not much anyone can do until the source of the problem is narrowed down.   — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 23:53, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

First off: we're players like you, not Arenanet. If you want to appeal the ban, your best bet is to contact support. As far as I know, support reviews all cases very carefully when making decisions like this. If there was indeed an error in blocking your account, it should be reinstated fairly quickly. This is all assuming that there was an error, however. --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 02:38, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
In case you weren't aware of it, there are rules against spam on the "all chat" channel, specially those related with trading (and begging). Chances are this is why you were banned. If it is because of this, your ban was 72 hours tops, and will be over before they even review any appeal you can make.--Fighterdoken 02:43, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

One wonders how much you really want to play the game if you got your account suspended for begging for money (i.e., leeching off of other people instead of, you know, actually playing the game). --Dragon Nataku talk to me

It's over nine thousand... degrees

My graphics card. It overheats playing GW, but only when I'm using TexMod. Without TexMod, average RAM consumption is 200MB; with it, it's about 400MB. Which is bad. Obviously, the card gets overheated. Is there a way to make texmod not suck up so much memory? I'm contemplating burglarizing my neighbor's place of business (he's a jerk anyway) and getting one of these, which would solve the problem once and for all, but if it's possible, I'd much rather spend my ill-gotten gains on hookers and blow. Any advice? Obviously, the default suggestions of "stop using texmod," "stop using such a huge-ass mod," and "turn down your graphics settings" will not help me here. —Jette User Jette awesome.png 02:12, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

What mod/mods are you using? Just wondering. I'm not a computer person so to answer your question, POUR COLD WATER ON YOUR COMPUTER! THAT'LL DEFINITELY COOL IT DOWN WITHOUT DAMAGING IT AT ALL!(if you or anyone else follows that suggestion I will facepalm myself to death) personn5User Personn5 sig.jpg 02:19, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm using my skill icons mod, glazed UI mod, some clothing and skin mods, and some animation mods. All in all 1,366 textures changed, in the main mod. I'd say at most 50 more in the smaller ones, which simply haven't gotten stuck into the big one yet. —Jette User Jette awesome.png 02:35, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Don't you think that almost a 1,500 textures is... a lot? Considering also that the program isn't that subtle I'd say that increased texture memory consumption is very much normal. I also wouldn't be surprised if those textures are always loaded into the memory, and not just "when you need them", but I'm not the person who made that program. Unload the stuff you don't really need, or don't use TextMod altogether. You can also increase the speed of your GPU fan or underclock you memory (if you have an Nvidia card, you can do that easily in the Nvidia Control Panel, though you may need to install Nvidia System Tools first, but I'm not sure. No idea what ATI has in that department). My Graphics card is giving out also (at least I think it's the Graphics card, with computers today you can never be too sure -_-) and underclocking by a few % and increasing the cooling is preventing freezes. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 01:31, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
I might end up trying that. The textures are only 128x128 though. Meh, I'll see what ends up happening, I might have to make a dozen or so mods with nothing but one or two professions that I intend to play and the UI mod in them. —Jette User Jette awesome.png 01:43, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Upgrade for Fiery Dragon Sword

Hi. Can anyone know what upgrade is good for Fiery Dragon Sword? And to make Fiery Dragon Sword get more health and more powerful hits?

Thanks --71.247.237.31 11:09, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

See Category:Weapon modifiers -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 11:11, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Well, more health would be an of Fortitude sword pommel, but you're pretty much screwed on the "more powerful hits", because Fiery Dragon Swords have an inherent sword hilt (Fiery, of course) that cannot be replaced. About the only thing you can do is customize it, if you haven't done so already. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 12:17, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
You can only add a pommel to a FDS, but to make it more powerful you can count on the fact your doing elemental damage instead of physical damage, this will automaticaly hurt classes with high armor against physical (but may reduce your damage against elemental resistant classes like rangers)... Consider taking Enchantments that increase fire damage, or Hexes that cause much pain for fire damage... MrPaladin talk 12:23, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Your choice of skills and attributes is going to make a far greater difference on damage than the modifiers on your weapon. :-) Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png

attribute bug

I have played guild wars for quite some time, no matter what character I play when I enter the eye of the north map, my skill attributes go crazy. . . example. . .

With an elementalist/monk character, his attribute in fire spells is maxed out at 14 with the use of runes, I enter eye of the north map and his attributes are modified to a red 0 even in an outpost, other attributes stats are also effected similarly. . . Attributes gone crazy!

This has to be a bug!

(Edit conflict) It's really pretty easy, almost every outpost and some Exploreable Areas have an NPC called Merchant. These NPCs buy almost everything beside Quest items and some Special Items like Storybooks etc. You can also sell items to other Players but of course players only buy rare items or items which have a high demand. --SilentStorm Talk to me 02:41, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Flagging Henchmen

How does one flag henchmen to a location, while leaving Heores "free" to move about with the party?? There is a reference to this type activity in the "Bloodstone Fen" Primary quest WIKI data (where the Henchmen are "flagged" and the Heroes are set to "evade" for the bonus), but to my knowledge (and I don't know much), flagging only affects individual HEROES and or the ENTIRE party (of both Heroes & henchmen), and NOT just henchmen alone. So, my question is---- can Henchmen (alone) be flagged without affecting Heroes?68.59.44.132 14:59, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Sure.
  1. Flag all henchies and heroes to the location you want your henchies to stay.
  2. Flag your hero somewhere else.
  3. Double-click on the hero flag to remove it. The hero will come back to you.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all your heroes.
