- Indeed, thats not lame, but really lame. SniperFox 11:34, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- So the emperor comes on the 6th or 7th? Pretty confusing. Lyra Valo 11:59, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

- Very cool mask if dyable effect or some strange morph like thingie effect, might just swap us right off our feet, no? -Muscolo
- nah the mask is well naff. It's too much like last years and its not even an original mask as it was used by some of the npc's last year. -- Salome 21:13, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) It's definately an improvement over last years mask. Though it'd be hard to top 2007's for being a bad mask.75.146.48.190 21:31, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- This mask is not that bad. Yes: it has been used by some NPCs last year (Grasp actor), but it looks better than last year's mask. However, everybody is free to like it or not. Aroz»Talk 21:33, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Its kind of dissapointing though because they just took an already existing model. --King Of Kamelott 18:59, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- What's funny is last year, tons of people complained because they wanted this mask instead of the one that was given. Now that we're getting it, people are complaining because it's not a 100% new mask.--Pyron Sy 19:25, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- Well said. The chaos siege wurm actor's hat looks cool too though... 145.94.74.23 09:59, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

The Mask[edit]
Yes, while the frilly stone circle face is most likely the new demon mask for this year, it's far from confirmed. Just because the picture of the warrior wearing the mask is 'demon_mask_2008.png' doesn't neccessarily mean it will be the demon mask for 2008. aNet could simply be slamming us all in the face with a curveball. ...Or the frilly stone circle face actually is our new demon mask. Who knows? We'll just have to wait till July 6th to find out ^^ Silavor 00:04, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
I think it is the mask for this year, because same as last years they put the mask in the page in the official gw page... so my prediction is --LazloW 07:03, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- You will notice it is the same as the mask the grasp actor wears in the re-enactment missions Image:Grasp actor.jpg --Lemming 16:15, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
Oh, how I hope it IS that mask.. It almost look margonite-y! <3 Chiyu! 02:13, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
A curveball, from ANet? Not going to happen, especially not with something like this. They're always trying to get out of doing extra work, as evidenced by stuff like their stance on the Hall of Monuments for the longest time, or reusing old models on their festival hat. Heck, they even pulled some "Lion Mask is a yearly hat" thing so they wouldn't have to create a new one, so there's no reason they'd put so much trouble into showing us the mask on an actual player character, not their old Grasp actor model, only to mess around with us and say "Just kidding!". That'd get them more trouble than praise. They claim they're doing what the players want, but if so, they've chosen to go about it in some of the worst ways possible. The people pleased by their actions are either in the minority, or have no idea what they're missing out on from previous years. -- Ephidel 19:18, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

- I disagree with that statement. Didn't they recently add a new title? With a completely new emote? How about those tonics? Didn't they create a whole new type of item for players during the Canthan New Year, instead of just new mask? What's so bad about recycling things you already have? Would you rather see them not adding anything at all? I'm sure you don't have to run a business and make money on a computer game, because you fail to understand that everything they add to the game for free actually costs them money (to hire people to program it). So please, stop bashing a company that really shouldn't have added new (or old) things to the game at all. They're giving you things for free, and you're being very ungrateful about it. 145.94.74.23 09:58, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- They're not giving it to us for free, we bought the game in exchange of gameplay and continuous update. And he's not whining he's giving his opinion. --King Of Kamelott 14:45, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe that's a picture of this years Grasp Actor? Lord Zepherr 09:38, July 3, 2008 (UTC)
- Complaining you don't get things for free sounds like whining to me. If you don't pay a monthly fee for an online game, you really cannot expect a company to put much effort in anything but keeping the servers running. 145.94.74.23 06:05, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

I like the idea of this being the 2008 festival mask. I also agree, however, that Anet seems to be not putting a lot of effort into making special masks for the yearly special holiday mask/hats. BUT, Im sure they are putting a ton of time into making GW 2, what they hope will be, a better game than GW 1. I am confused on their inconsistancy, though. The lion masks are going to be yearly but the horns of grenth and pumpkin crowns aren't? It looked like they were going to have a different variation of Horns of Grenth each Christmas, for example, but they changed gears on us and surprised us. So who knows what we can truly expect? Relax and enjoy the ride. 74.67.145.123 10:45, 4 July 2008 (UTC) milo
People always say "it's free, stop complaining", but if ANet wants people to give them their patronage with GW2, then they'd better step it up with GW1 and show us that they deserve our money. Getting lazy just because they're working on the next game is no excuse. I'd be fine with GW2 coming out later if it meant they wouldn't treat GW1 as poorly as they have been. Their updates are sloppily done, and they tend not to pay attention to the real problems with the game. The game may not have a monthly fee, but that doesn't mean they should completely ignore glaring flaws because they're not getting paid for it. Perhaps it would be better if they just stopped updating, because they're not helping the game as it is with these poor bids for the players' attention. Ephidel 19:03, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, how lazy of them to not constantly bend over backwards to unroll new stuff all the time while also building a new engine, debugging the engine, making new graphics, models, sounds, quests, missions, etc, etc that is probably using up almost their entire staff. For shame, ANet! And they obviously don't care about the players because they don't listen to us! Like just a few weeks ago when everyone freaked out over perma-SF sins farming Chaos Plains. Why, what did they do? They fixed it! By listening to the fans they have shown that really don't care what we have to say. Who cares if others want to play GW2, I want ANet to pour all of their resources into hacking apart and patching up an old engine, where often times trying to fix something means breaking something else. I mean, gosh, if they're gonna just re-use some preexisting mask, they might as well not even bother doing anything else with the game. Sure, I might sound like a whiny, overreacting crybaby that has no understanding of game design or working on video games, but that's why I just play them and critique others based on my unrealistic and unfounded expectations.
- All ANet is required to do is to render the services that came with the game, provided you abide by their TOU. To put it bluntly, they don't owe you, me, or anyone anything, just like the power company doesn't owe you anything for paying your bill. You pay for the service and the service is provided. GW is the exact same way. Now, it wouldn't be good business sense to not provide things like festivals and game changes, but ANet is not required to do that for you. You can moan, point the finger, be petty and cruel if you wish, but that hardy endears anyone to either listen to you or to take what you have to say into consideration. :D[edit]
This made me really happy, it's the first day of my holiday and the last time I saw a dragon festival, I was a stupid newb. (The first time I ever played, I thought like WTF so many people?). :D Koen 13:02, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- lol so was I in the Dragon Festival 2006 but I was better in the 2007 version and I am even better now! my favorite event! MarioDX 19:51, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Do you need a certain campaign to get in the festival? I only have Nightfall. How would I get to this Shing Jea Monastery?KB 20:45, 29 June 2008 (UTC)KB
It takes place in the Factions campaign --LazloW 20:48, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Redux?[edit]
I'm not sure I will be able to attend this years DF, is there a possibility there will be a redux this year too? A-Gen 14:05, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's not likely there'll be a redux again. There was only one last year due to a lot of server and connection troubles for Europe. Usually the events only take place once. (See: Every other holiday event besides DF 2007) If you really want the mask or something from the event, you can possibly ask someone you trust to log in for you and get it. Doing that would be risky behavior, so it's just a suggestion to solving your problem, not a recomendation at all. 75.146.48.190 17:59, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Depends on how incapable ANet pcs are lately, might get hacked/lagged out/pinged out => UBER MONSTER GAME LAG; in which case we will get a redux in august, also the redux will prooly be less attended, thus more fun and sploitness for the titles, I think it'll be seen about the redux part on the first event night, just monitor ping and FPS... Sencirely, Muscolo
- I still think they need to redux this event every year because people go on holiday for some weeks with these events:/, :S
- Be there or be square. I've missed hats for all 3 Wintersdays because I'm always out of town for New Years. I've never gotten a redux. The '07 redux was because of technical issues. Unless there are again technical issues that render play impossible this year, no redux should occur. Peter Acid Eater 20:41, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- According to official wiki it was because of the people "who missed out" during july, so I'm hoping/betting there'll be one. Making an event on holiday weekends is really f*cking stupid imo.--Ʀєʟʟɑ 23:15, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

plzz, anet, have a redux... so many are on vacacion, and its not like its halloween, or xmas, so ya can have a redux without its weird, comon guys, we fans count on ya!^^
GMT?[edit]
can someone please make a table with GMT? it would be much appreciated :) ShoGunTheOne 22:34, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know if a table would be easyer to read. Maybe changing dates from GMT -7 to GMT would be better (or at least, it will be faster to get the date in our timezone) ? Aroz»Talk 23:04, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- I think that it should be listed not as GMT, but as Pacific time, since that is the Anet standard. GMT is way too difficult for the average person to calculate off of.-- Wynthyst 01:42, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- I think we should include two tables, one for PST and one for GMT. -- Gordon Ecker 01:48, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- I really don't know. Maybe that adding a notice like the one below this table ([Mad King appearances]) would be easyer to read. The GMT table I did was way harder to read that the PDT one... Aroz»Talk 02:02, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- How about something like this? -- Wynthyst 02:20, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- Take a GMT-7 time, add 7 hours and you'll get the GMT time. It's not that hard. 145.94.74.23 07:49, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

"GMT is way too difficult for the average person to calculate off of". o.o Wyn, are you serious? If by most people, you only mean Americans, fine (I guess they are more familiar with their own timezones). But GMT is the standard way of showing timezones, you don't see a PDT +7 listing anywhere, do you? :P I do agree PDT should be listed, as that it what Anet provides, but adding GMT too would be a good idea, since that helps the rest of the world to convert. :P - anja 15:16, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- I worked on a table that would list both GMT and PDT (User:Aroz/sandbox/Dragon_Festival_2008). It is quite long, but not that hard to understand. Aroz»Talk 15:32, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- @Anja, I'm talking about the average American teenager that is going to be a huge part of the viewership, and yes, I have difficulties myself translating GMT. It's just not something that is used in the States EVER. I have no objections to listing BOTH, and I like Aroz's table very much. I just don't think GMT is how it should be listed exclusively because Pacific time IS the Anet standard and I think more players are familiar with converting Anet time to their own, than GMT. -- Wynthyst 15:39, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Gods how I wish people could tell the difference between BRITISH SUMMER TIME, which the UK is currently using, and UTC/Greenwich Mean Time, which the UK is currently NOT using. The number of retards who can't tell the difference is stuppifying 86.20.251.52 12:01, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
How about you make it easier for the rest of the world and base it off of GMT. It's easy to work out everyone's time from GMT. I'm in Australia and have never had to deal with Pacific time and don't intend to but GMT is standard the world over and I find it far easier to add 10 hours than muck around with working out what pacific time is. GMT is globally recognised and PCT is not. Anet may be based in a region governed by PCT but i guarantee that the majority of the players are not. Pharesius of Tyria 23:12, 6 July 2008 (GMT+10)

- GMT/UTC is an international standard, this is why it is used here. And when you want that ANet lists the times in other times than PST, visit the localized websites. http://eu.guildwars.com for Europe for example. poke | talk 13:16, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- We don't care about British time at all, it just happens to be the same as the standard (which we do care about) half of the year. :P On the other hand, where was BST even mentioned except in the "rant" about people talking about BST? - anja 13:17, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm fine with listing in Pacific time and GMT/UTC. I think the Pacific time is necessary since it is how Anet lists their schedules on the website, and not listing it here would cause massive confusion for people who visit the website.-- Wynthyst 13:26, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

- Seems that 9 to 14 prizes is about standard, although higher level characters (15+) who actually participate in the celestial charge recovery appear to get twice as many prizes. My low level characters have gotten 12 to 14 per visit, while my level 20's all seem to get 24 to 28 prizes. Gwynna Vive 21:33, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
I dunno, guys! During the second event (5:00am for me) i was, for some reason, getting a "double drop" of presents from Kisu! I got two presents at each "present drop" in my inventory! Instead of teh standard 13, i got 26.. wicked. Has this happened to anyone else?
- I did the final event 4 times, got always 13 gifts. And some victory tokens for successful deliveries, too. Pudding 23:22, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
I did, in fact, as well receive 26 presents, however, I am unable to explain why.
- My previous post stated my "double drop" incidents with level 20 characters...this has also happened on a level 11 character of mine. Always, the characters I have that have gotten double drops (24-28 presents), had successfully delivered a minimum of 6 charges (and some have been caught by the grasps, so it's not anything to do with getting taken out by one of those pests). Other than that, I cannot explain it either.Gwynna Vive 03:39, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
aha! I knew it! I'm not the only one! And it just happened again! this "double drop" phenomena definately needs some investigating! oh, sorry for not signing before! whoops! hehe Aegis 03:34, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- Most of the visits I got 13 presents on both my account and my brother's account (he was idling in the same district I was running charges in). However, during one visit, my brother's char only got 12 while mine got 13, so it can't be the district's score or level as it was the same for both of us. On another visit, I got 26 instead of the usual 13. I was running charges during that visit, but it wasn't even my best run (only delivered 8 charges compared to 24 during another visit). So I have no explanation other than simple randomness, though it does seem to lean heavily toward 13 most of the time. - Tanetris 06:11, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- Addendum: I just got 26 while idling over in 9 Rings, so it's apparently not limited to characters who are running charges. - Tanetris 08:16, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Me too! Absolutely no idea. I attended every finale, and the ended up with two "double drop" events in total. What were the conditions for it? Is it just random? I'm still so curious! Aegis 07:15, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- I reverted last edit, it seems that players usually got between 12-15 presents except for the very last appearance... Maybe the presents have been doubled for that one.
- The one time I got a double-drop effect was my third event finale (I participated in the first four and the last two). At the time I had a fairly high rate of successful Celestial Charge runs, including the first point scored in that district. I'm wondering if it might be an "early scorer bonus," although if that were the case I'd expect the effect to be advertised beforehand. -- WarBlade 13:35, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Reward from Scorcerer[edit]
Everytime you give the celestial thingy to the scorcerer, rewards you with 1 Victory token. Perhaps that should be added in the notes? :) DarqueXiroz 14:04, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- Noticed that too. Definetly worth a note. Pudding 23:23, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
Torment claw[edit]
I have never seen the actor torment claws. Where can they be found? --Burning Freebies 14:25, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- They're in the Captain Rujiyo Missions. Found a few of em on Haiju Lagoon (mission) at some chaos rifts. Karuro 14:33, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
Bug[edit]
- bug:In some district the grasps were inactive and we won 474 to 1..that one point was because we tried standing right on them with charge.

- It could be nice if you add this box in the main event page with a more general description...
- bug:In some district the grasps are inactive.
- It can even be more detailed. Aroz»Talk 19:55, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- Removed the bug templates to avoid autocategorization.--Fighterdoken 22:48, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
Cupcakes available[edit]
Birthday Cupcakes are available from token exchangers in Kamadan and Lions Arch for 10 Victory Tokens. Birthday Cupcakes are not available in Shing Jea Monastery. --Lord Mondegreen 03:22, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

AFK at the event...[edit]
I had to work during the event so I left myself AFK in District 16 of Shing Jea. When I got home I had 146 presents in my inventory. This event rocked, but I DEFINITELY see why they chose to do it differently the years before... --Srakin 12:55, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
