Lich's health restoration

  • * * As A confirmation - having earned over 6 million XP in the Fire Islands - the lich does not have to be anywhere near the rock, the average number of times you have to kill him is 2, but can be 3 (max) or just once. I have killed him the first time with no additional spawns in the lava and off the rock to complete the mission over all the updates over the entire 3 years. So put this myth to bed!!!!!!!!!!!!

The lich most definately does NOT need to be on the "blood stone" or "centre" to finish the game.

I farm boxes and runes from armors on this mission, making about 3k a run and usually gainins some decents weapon mods or nice runes, and i do this mission ussually about 3 times a day, if im free. Its not a long mission, with a decent interupter like a warrior with DBS or Savage slash, or a mesmer, you can stop risen ashen from castin Shadow of fear (which slows the kill rate down noticably), and the whole thing can be done in 20 mins or less, seeing as most lvl 20 warriors can solo a hands/fist each.

Its very irratating when ignorant novices choose to shout in cap's, orders which have no relavance, seeing as usually that will be their first time doing the mission, or subsequent other times they failed to reach a sucessful conclusion, which leads me to think that following their advice is flawed in itself. JunoNH 18:24, 14 July 2008

What follows below is personal interpretations of limited experiences if there are insistances that: the Lich has to be on the rock or center to kill him and only have to do it minimal times; it will create a situation where he will not regen hp and nrg; or there will be less spawns if and when he resurrects.Devils 20:24, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

"There are numerous theories about if the Lich must be standing on a particular part of the bloodstone to prevent this restoration, but the exact mechanics are still unknown. Eventually, the Lich will go down and not come back up."

After completing that mission quite a few times, I am pretty sure that he has to stand in the center, what other theories are there around? --Xeeron 15:40, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes, every PuG I've ever been in has acknowledged that the Lich needs to be killed in the exact centre. The problem is, either it is very, very precisely in the centre or there are other factors. I've killed the dead guy umpteen times, always tried to kill him dead centre, yet only managed it ONCE. Go figure... --SnogratUser Snograt signature.png 16:20, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
I think it is very precise indeed, as in he has to stop moving on his own without anyone being in aggro range. I have completed that mission some 10 to 15 times now and the average number of times I needed to kill the lich per mission is lower than 2 overall. Plus, in most cases when 1 dead was not enough, someone clearly engaged him away from the center. --Xeeron 16:26, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
I think the Bloodstone's definition of its "center" has been changed sometime since when I beat Hell's for the first time. I remember the first time (and then again on my warrior who was created shortly after my ranger beat it), the "center" was vaguer and we killed him easily. Nowadays, even with him in the "center" it takes two or three shots. Oh - and isn't it amazing how this is one concept PuGs never have trouble figuring out? That you must kill him in the "center"? Hmm. Perhaps right before Lichie starts moving to piss you off, he secretly moves his foot (which you cannot see due to him wearing a dress-err, robe) one pixel, thereby making him not in the "center" by one pixel. I don't know. I haven't been able to destroy him with one kill in months. File:Esig2.jpg Eldin 14:49, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
Note that around the bloodstone is 6 structures. These represent the soul batteries that power the door. /See ingame text). When you kill the Lich, various number of these will power up. (Very visable change, if you pay attention. It seems that the closer the Lich is to the centre of the stone, the more batteries will power up.I've had them all go up with the first kill, but mostly you have to kill him 3 times or so (2 batteries/kill). Backsword 14:59, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
I have not noticed the structures, but I am usually too busy focus-firing. I have done this mission about 50 times, and the only time(s) that I've ever had to kill the lich more than once was when there were melee party members (which for me is never, unless I'm helping someone else through) Recently, it seems that the Lich Lord needs only to be on the stone to kill him. Also, I've noticed that the Sparks are much more destructive (for my typical "all caster" group) than anything else in the mission (as opposed to Burning Titans mentioned in the notes) Gwynna Vive 01:40, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Bug With Winter?

Does anyone know why winter is not properly converting elementalist damage from fire/earth/air to cold damage? This is posted on Guild Wiki with no real resolve, other than it being a glitch. It is very annoying running in there with my fire ele, to realize that winter does not cause any of my spells to hit for more damage than a pea shooter.

It works for me just fine maybe just a bug with the mission you were on. ~C Cooldudecool PS: Don't forget to cap the elite skill to help.

Yeah at the moment Winter doesn't seem to have any effect with regard to Titans, unless the Titans themselves are no longer susceptible to cold damage. --Dash 23:18, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

I noticed that GuildWiki had already marked this bug resolved, but it wasn't mentioned here... so I just tested the effect of Winter on Hell's Precipice for myself, here's the results:
Skill Name Regular Damage With Winter Dmg % Increase
Rodgort's Invocation -36 -101 181%
Flare -20 -56 180%
Lightning Javelin -32 -42 31%
Lightning Orb -79 -103 30%
Stone Daggers -17 -23 35%
Eruption -20 -28 40%
Aftershock -50 -70 40%
So the Winter bug has been fixed, and it definitely gives spellcasters an edge vs Hell's Precipice titans. Combined with Greater Conflagration, which gives melee users an edge against titans, anyone with a Ranger class can greatly strengthen the mission party with these two skills. No more Winter bugs, woot!

ShadowfaxSTF 06:06, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Winter worked perfectly now. Meteor on the Undead Lich gave 200 damage, even (sensitive to cold?). 213.114.216.241 19:40, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Aargh

Just for the record: attempted Hard Mode with H/H. Did admirably all the way through, got bonus without too many deaths (no consumables.) Rurik and the Spark twins went poof. Then the Lich... Killed the sod twice, and THEN he wiped my party. Arse :( --SnogratUser Snograt signature.png 00:35, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

well just tried winter in this and yes its not working, i hear there was an update that nerfed it for this misson. file needs to be updated to reflect this.

Priority targets

Kill burning titans before sparks? Huh? For me, the sparks should ALWAYS be the first priority. Rodgort's and Mind Burn are far more dangerous than a bit of burning. -- 166.120.202.205 23:44, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Agreed and edited. I remember Rodgort's Invocation receiving a buff at some point and now the Sparks are DEFINATELY the most dangerous. I find burning titans pussycats anyway.203.173.231.89 23:56, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Tip for Hard Mode with H & H

Mission is much easier with a Life Barrier hero and having Mantra of Flame on you and all heroes. Personally, I use 2 domination mesmers and made mission in a little bit more than 1 hour.

Note: Don't forget to flag your Life Barrier hero away from fights, otherwise you will get into troubles.. --Lna 07:54, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Or frigid armor. Or dont you think that works well here? Micro 16:23, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

An hour? With two SoS Rit builds and heroes/henchie team, you can clear it in like 30 minutes.

Tip for beating Lich

We just so happened to have two elementalist on our team both using water spells to cast deep freeze and shard storm ( I was using echo chain with glyph of lesser energy/water attunement to repeatedly cast shard storm) we practically had him at a stand still. He never left the center ring.--Worldly Tutor 08:50, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Apparrently he's really voulnerable to eart damage .. i went with 12 in earth magic and used Stoning which always hit him over 180 ... and it wasn't really hard to get past the others since i had shockwave ... so i think water damage still owns the titans but if you want a fast lich go with earth --[Sneaker] 11:48, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Killing him in centre doesnt always end it

Just did it on my paragon:

  • first life he kept teleporting away into lava and i would back off till he got back in middle. killed him dead centre and even walked right up to him and looked.
  • Second time he didnt move at all or teleport. killed him right where he stood from last death and again i checked to see if he was in centre.
  • Third kill i cleared the 4 hands first then made sure he was centre and killed him for the final time.
    • I dont care what anyone says about it...killing him in middle makes no freaking difference

Is it possible something else "charges him up" before killing him that makes the difference in how many kills it takes? My h/h killed him in ~2-3min for 3 deaths--Justice 02:18, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Killed him in two deaths in NM it ain't that hard, but no matter what he respawns the first death, after the second death he comes back as "Lich" instead of "Undead Lich", when he's just "Lich" you need to kill him in the center of the bloodstone.--Ʀєʟʟɑ 02:39, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Frozen Soil?

I don't know who's put that skill advice in the article (probably just a joke, eh?). So don't bother bringing Frozen soil 'cause it doesn't help at all. (just tested).--Pudding 12:04, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

I tried the same, and it doesn't work... Deleted the note from the page. demonic barb 16:00, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Undead Lich -- Lich

After the second death, he'll come back as "Lich", this; I'm sure is the difference between him coming back or not when in the center of the bloodstone. According to this theory you have to kill him atleast one time, then the second time should kill him as long as he's in the center of The Bloodstone.Anyone wanna varify this?--Ʀєʟʟɑ 02:42, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, i just killed him the first try without him coming back (at the center of the bloodstone, literally), but i can't really confirm how he was called when i killed him. Too much hack&slash i guess...--Fighterdoken 02:48, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

I can conform the Undead Lich -> Lich transformation after he died. Anonymus 22:52 29 April 2008 (GMT)

The second try i can confirm about, happened same as above: killed him in the middle (first kill), he died, and one second before the movie started rolling he respawned as "Lich" (which i obviously didn't have to kill). Will try to run a few more attempts tonight and see how he reacts when not killed in the middle, just for the sake of doing it.--Fighterdoken 18:09, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Just a bug involving movies, me thinks. Once had him stick around after the titan appeared in Abaddon's Mouth. --24.179.151.252 03:28, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Lich respawning and killing location

Erh... ok, tried a couple of times again and he the Lich just keep "dying" after the first kill. I was actually unable to keep him out of the bloodstone enough time (bodyblock sucks when H/h), but at least every time i killed him at the border of the bloodstone, the mission ended. Can anyone confirm if he still respawns (being it needed to kill him again) if he is killed somewhere else (like, the lava)?.--Fighterdoken 02:47, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

All I can say is that it seems that all party members and the Lich must be inside the Bloodstone effect. Everytime I kill him inside and he comes back, a henchman or hero was running around far from the Bloosdtone center. Every time I killed him the first time, without resurrections, everyone was inside the Bloodstone, near the center. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 13:21, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Longbow?

Can anyone verify this? Does it really help or not, I have heard this rumour before, but I don't know whether or not it's actually true 213.78.6.200 14:11, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Of course you can :) Assuming we're talking about the note saying that you can ping away at the Lich with longbows as their range means he won't move outside the circle - I dunno :D Would be a simple matter to test - just the annoying, lengthy preamble to get to him. Any volunteers? --snogratUser Snograt signature.png 21:04, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

(reset indent) I'll test it the next time I get on. Sounds fun. :D Blood Red Giant 21:20, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Holy Shit! This actually works. If you use a longbow to attack the Lich, he just sits in the center of the Bloodstone and keeps casting Soul Vortex (tested in normal mode with the rest of my party outside of the radar). There's only 2 things to keep in mind with this method. First, make sure not to get hit by the purple orbs created by Soul Vortex or you will be teleported into the lava (not pleasant). This is made more difficult by the fact that the orbs seemed to follow me when I ran. A possible solution to this would be to have an "Orb Runner" that would purposefully hit the orbs in order to use them up and then run back to the group. Second, you must provide enough damage with your longbow to counter the innate +3 health regen of the Lich. If you don't wish to use Marksmanship to increase your damage, I would suggest bringing Candy Cane Bows combined with Ebon Battle Standard of Honor. With all party members attacking the Lich with longbows, this method should be fairly effective. Blood Red Giant 22:41, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Haven't checked lately to see if still works, but you used to be able to use H/h to kill the orbs. With enough dps, they are dead before they reach the group. (Don't ask me how, but H/h's can target them).--Fighterdoken 22:59, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
That would be a cool thing to check. Obviously, my heroes/henchies were off compass and thus weren't in range to attack the orbs, but I just know that I couldn't target them. Blood Red Giant 23:21, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Nice work, Blood Rad Giant :) While you were testing this - the Lich staying in the circle - did he still require multiple kills? Or, to be more precise, did he still have multiple health bars? --snogratUser Snograt signature.png 19:48, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Prio Targets again

Uhm, personally I don't think bosses deserve to be so high up - in proph they only do slightly more dmg than normal mobs but have a tonne more health + survivability - I personally would have them down with the Ash Hulks (probably above the hulks). The exception to this is the ele, who I would still kill after Lords - although getting both of those at once would be REALLY bad pulling. Any thoughts? 84.51.153.161 11:07, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

All of the titan bosses are chumps because they don't spawn anything when they die and they're not even that hard to kill at all if you have a decent team. Pjwned 12:01, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Rebalance Bonus!!!

A-net obviously doesn't care at all about PvE, because they have done nothing to balance the bonus of this mish. Sure, the girl is meant to walk slow so that your party has time to kill everything in front of her, but they effing buffed Life Transfer! Now it is basically impossible to do bonus without clearing the entire castle first! One cast of Life Transfer while you are standing anywhere near her and she dies in 1 sec. Spamming healing spells gets you nowhere, because her health is like 10 or something (one hit of phoenix kills her, one meteor shower kills her). The fact that to even do bonus without clearing the island is now a must for anyone getting the bonus is ridiculous enough, but they also make her walk really shitty slow. Like 1 hour to get there slow. There are two easy solutions. 1:Make her walk faster or 2. (the easier, better way)Make her insusceptible to damage/hexes. Don't like option two? At least then balance the place so there are less Life Transfering spamming Mursaat that kill her in 1 sec, or give her more health (even 300hp would be decent, unless you give her like 0 armor), or actually make her appear on the ally list so monks know what her health is and heroes actually heal her (right now its impossible without players) This should all be very obviously simple to do, and it would actually help to balance PvE for once. I mean, there are assassins without full attack chains (due to PvP based "changes"), monsters in Nightfall who now have a useless elite (Vow of Strength used to help monsters without attack skills and loads of condition enchantments, now they have no attacks and VoS is useless because every single time someone attacks them, their enchants give them a condition) and when you have a bonus ally that isn't on the ally list that dies so easily that you need an effing monk to 55 her the whole 45min walk through so she doesn't lose her measly 20 health, I think it means the game is broken. Crimmastermind 09:05, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Uh, what? You've got the wrong mission. -Auron 09:08, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

ALT Seer path?

I just backtracked to get to the Seer after wiping all the Titans and sparks int eh portal area and all but one portal guardian from one last remaining portal. It's a loop. You'll fight the same number of mobs regardless of which path you take. There's usually 1 titan next to the seer. --8765 08:00, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

that woudl be true if you went all the way through the loop, but I just backstracked to him a And then left the earlier groups alone.User:71.193.143.94 (talk).

Wow..

The Undead Lich is a freaking joke comparing to this mission. Actually, compared to everything! It took me about 5 missions fail until I got the bonus (been aiming for protector title) and I thought I'll probably die at the damn lich but he is a god damn noob!! if you overaggro a group of 3 with extra 2 foes you can get wiped and this mission got alot of patrols. When u fight the lich.. well thats just dumb.. I found myself attacking (as a healer!!) the lich cause there was nothing else to do...
In the bottom line, I think they should nerf the monsters here a bit because this is just stupid... --Aartist21 14:24, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, the Lich just has a lot of health and takes a while, but he's not really that dangerous. Teleporting your guys into the lava is about the worst he can do. By comparison, the mobs (and Rurik) are definately harder. I did notice that after all the skill chances (notably AotL and HB) this mission is very different, and probably harder... now you have to deal with minion armies and stuff too. 81.109.190.169 18:52, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, the lich should be actually somewhat challenging instead of a complete joke even on hard mode. In exchange, the fire imps can get toned down a little with their RIDICULOUS nukes. When the boss for the epic final mission is easier than everything before him it's just dumb as hell. Shiro (or even Abaddon) is a good example of a last boss because even though 1 person can solo him you still have to know what you're doing or you're in for some trouble. Pjwned 11:58, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

I don't remember this thing being so hard the last time I completed it...now every team i join wipes within the first few groups..wtf?

It's crazy, Shiro is far tougher than the Lich, and given the long and difficult mission, he's such an anticlimax. With the Aura of the Lich and Hundred Blades buffs, this is a very different mission, not just harder but a completely different kettle of fish too. Seriously, slacken off the monsters a tad and toughen up the Lich. He deserves some love! 86.23.112.120 21:36, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

What's wrong with the bonus??

I just did the mission (HM) with a ally of me and hero's we did fine and we were able to rescue the seer for the bonus. In my questlog the bonus section appeared but after i had killed the 3 Armageddon Lord i though the bonus was done but nothing happend...

When we killed the lich i though the bonus would also be done but it was just the mission. Now I have to do the bonus again for my title.

Some1 know because of what this happened? plz help me.

Per the bonus walkthrough "Once you have initiated the bonus, it is important that the Seer does not die or you will fail the bonus, even if you kill the Armageddon Lords. " my guess is something killed the seer... MrPaladin talk 13:31, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
I made sure to kill anything that was remotely near the seer. I suggest to do the same thing to anybody else who's doing the bonus just to make sure it succeeds. Pjwned 05:34, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

How many times...

How many times do you have to kill this guy... I had to kill him 4 times the last time I did this mission... - SabreWolf 23:58, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

"Contrary to what Rurik says, the Lich does not have to stand on the bloodstone to be defeated. His death will recharge some of the soul batteries around the bloodstone, and the mission is over if they are all recharged. You may have to fight him one, two, or three times before he is defeated. His location at the moment of his death has absolutely no effect on the number of batteries recharged (it appears to be random)". - from Notes. May have got unlucky with 4 kills. ~Celestia 23:59, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Notes

"There also appears to be an occasional glitch where one of the portals does not appear, in this case closing the other two portals does not help, but should be attempted. " I fail to see why this should be attempted if closing the two portals with this glitch active does not help. Can anyone confirm if it does or does not help? If not, I'll go ahead and shorten this note to just mention the glitch. From what the note currently says, I'm assuming that mission completion is not possible if this glitch happens - though I was unable to replicate the glitch myself. Bonus

I found the guide to doing the bonus a little confusing (maybe because I'm thick). After talking to the Seer continuing south hits a number of mobs which I couldn't get past. After several attempts I found it much easier to backtrack north and then follow the normal route down to the lava pool and got the Bonus with no real difficulty. Undead Lich killing research

Setting up this section since this question is basically not resolved and I am not convinced the article is right. Please state how often and where you killed the lich (and if he renamed and how many soul batteries charged, if you remember).

  • 2 Kills. 1st: Away from center, respawns as Lich. 2nd: In center, respawns as Lich, but triggers mission end. --Xeeron 10:00, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
  • 2 Kills. 1st: Dead nuts center (was fighting from stairway). 2nd: Dead nuts center (was fighting from stairway). Mission ended on 2nd death. Sorry didnt check naming/soul batteries. Justice 21:03, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
  • 3 kills. One of the kills might have been JUST outside the edge of the bloodstone but it looked like he was pretty much on it and the other 2 he was definitely on top of it. Didn't notice anything particularly weird like him being renamed. Not sure if it matters or not but this was on hard mode (good thing he's still easy as hell). Pjwned 05:25, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Vulnerable to lightning?

So yeah i just did the mission, got to the lich and whilst fighting him my Air magic spells hit for double damage. A.K.A Enervating charge 52 dmg weakness for (dot) seconds became 100 damage and weakness. 77.164.165.114 13:02, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

You're right. As noted here, the Lich has an armor rating of 30 against elemental damage. Enervating Charge's armor penetration treats that as 22.5, causing the spell to do 1.915 times as much damage as it would to a 60 armor target without armor penetration (i.e. 1.915 times the number in the skill description). Basically, the armor penetration from many Air Magic spells almost takes his armor down to 20, meaning he will take almost double damage from them. The math is all here if you're interested. --Irgendwer 19:11, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Bonus Glitch

Interestingly enough, I've had it go twice in a row now that the Burning Titan that spawns next to the seer did not target or attack him at all. Pretty fortunate actually, since it gives you all day to finish the rest of the groups and come get the titan. Might want to add this as a bug or something to the main page? 99.99.12.241 23:23, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

That titan wont attack untill you close in range (I think the sear will burn whenever the titan walks next to it though). You should be able to finish off the sizeable group just over the small hill leading to the sear first. Have had people full out run for the sear and it was like, wtf are you doing. Its bad when you are fighting a large mob of titan sparks, spreading out thin, and triggering the burning titan next to the sear in HM lol. Justice 02:50, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
Yeah I just did this mission on hard mode and I got the exact same thing. Good thing the seer is level 30 so even if he is getting attacked he can still take a beating but the burning titan just sat there all day on top of the seer (who was taking damage from being burned from being adjacent to the titan, haha) and that allowed me to relax and take out the group of sparks & hulks nearby. Pjwned 05:19, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
I must be amazingly unlucky today since I had 3 spark of the titans, a burning titan and 2 risen ashen attacking him - just about managed to save him with shield of absorption. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 18:51, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Weird knockdown behavior on Lich

So I was just running this on hard mode with a hammer build (Earth Shaker is a godsend against groups of fists & hands or even sparks if they're close enough) with Renewing Smash and when I got to the lich I was able to interrupt him with knockdowns but I couldn't get multiple renewing smashes in. It looks like you can actually knock him down but he gets up after 1 second (or sooner) because I could get 1 renewing smash in (with Flail active anyways) but using it twice resulted in a 30 second recharge. Now, I'm not really complaining since being able to knock him down at all is pretty nice but I don't know of any other mobs that get up quickly from knockdowns like that. I assume you have a stonefist insignia? Many creatures with Stun Immunity can be knocked down for 1 second with a 3 second knockdown, Shiro being a notable example. I didn't think Lich had it, though. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 15:00, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I do (unsurprisingly) have a stonefist insignia actually. That's pretty interesting to know but what about mobs like Hill Giants that I can't knock down at all? Weird discrepancy there. Anyways, makes sense that the lich would have stun immunity since he is the last boss of Prophecies and if you could knock him down for 3 seconds (or 4 even with Backbreaker or Psychic Instability) then he would be even more of a joke than he already is.
