So... is this supposed to do something? Backsword 22:33, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Special Winter Holiday Pet. I had a normal polar bear as my pet, so I quite like this one. ..still want a polar bear miniature. Future User Future Signature.png 22:35, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

I just charmed it (: --Stylish Yule Cap.pngRazsel talk 22:34, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Can this be put in HoM with its unique statue?--75.94.77.148 22:43, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

No, I just checked. It must be fully evolved, like most all other pets. Briareus 00:03, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
I think what that person means is when it is fully evolved does it get a general animal companion statue or does it get a unique statue.-- Shew 01:08, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Very nice, but after working my butt off to get a Rainbow Phoenix, I don't have much use for it. :P Arshay Duskbrow 01:25, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

The Jingle Bear's inability to attack or be attacked makes it unable to be "Death Leveled" a lot like the Rainbow Phoenix's own restraints to prevent death leveling.

Edits[edit]

I don't think we need to mention "This NPC is now Charmable because of recent update" - it's nothing out of the ordinary. Also, can we have less reverts around this info? How do we know it's a ranger? I believe we've had that discussion before - they're not rangers (or at least we don't know whether they're rangers). --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 22:55, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

This is a ranger based on the big bloody capital R in front of it's level number. Backsword 22:56, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough then. I haven't actually seen the thing, but they usually don't have their profession stated (which is why I assumed this one also doesn't). --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 22:58, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
That R was removed when it was made into a charmable pet. Currently, what happens is:
  • If you have done the four quests, walking into the garden will show you a level 5 bear that can be charmed. Of course, like any other charmable animal it does not have any profession.
  • If you have not done the four quests, the bear does not appear in the garden.
So I think it's safe to say the bear is not a beast, rather a charmable animal, and that it's not a ranger, nor that it's "also" available as a charmable pet. Erasculio 23:00, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
So you can return as often as you like to get it later? poke | talk 23:03, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Does the bear show up if someone else in the party hasn't done the quests? Could someone skip the quests and still get the bear? --Nkuvu User Nkuvu sig button.jpg 23:04, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, I went outside, saw the bear, went back to the EofN, went outside again, tamed the bear, went back to the Eye, went outside again with the tamed bear and found a new bear waiting there. Still haven't tested if someone who has not done the quests can get one (can't find someone who has not done the quests and isn't busy ;_;). Erasculio 23:31, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Ping me in game, I haven't done all four quests on any character yet (Wintersday Cheer is not very cheerful) and I'm just messing around with quests. --Nkuvu User Nkuvu sig button.jpg 23:59, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks to nkuvu's help, we have determined that you can skip the quests and get the bear if someone in your party has access to the pet. Erasculio 00:07, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

If there are people in your party that hasn't done the quests but the leader of the group has then they can charm it.It's like getting a ferry to consultate docks.

Unique Characteristics[edit]

For starters, it doesn't go all stupid hostile when you charm it, and as far as I can tell you can't attack it like any other charmable pet. Just got myself and my 3 rangers a nice Christmas Bear army. Kirenne Starfire [Kw] 23:44, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

The bad side being that you can't death level it, though. Erasculio 00:07, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
...Why would you death level ANYTHING outside of the searing. Fail Jonas 00:51, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Because you can quickly level a potential pet to dire? --Mystisteel 00:59, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
You do all know about the wurm trick right? I mean levelling a pet dire to 20 is not rocket science...it only takes a couple hours if you know the right spot. 98.219.48.111 01:26, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Death levelling the pet takes only 1 hour, and you can be afk while you do it. :p --79.171.74.8 01:28, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
The last time I death leveled a pet I flagged my monk, took off my armor, and ran some errands for a few hours. It beats the "wurm trick" by leaps and miles, unless you're the type who enjoys grinding... --Mystisteel 01:31, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
I am seriously pissed off that i cant death level this thing. What if, after wintersday has come and gone, after hours of grinding, i get him to level twenty and he's HEARTY?? -gasp- I would /ragequit. Death leveling is the only efficient way to level up a pet. |NalanaUser Nalana Darkling santa.jpgDarkling| 18:49, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Why would it be bad for a holiday animal to be hearty? lol 145.94.74.23 08:43, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Because then they suck.
That is a matter of opinion. 145.94.74.23 11:28, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
If you want dire just go the meangarie and cough up some faction to Helena. Easy done. Dakota 23:52, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Permanent?[edit]

Do we have a confirmation that, if you have finished the festival quests, this pet will remain charmable even after wintersday, or is it unique to this time of the year? WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 02:18, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

We have no way of knowing that until the Wintersday content is removed. My prediction is that it will cease to spawn after that time. Arshay Duskbrow 04:33, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
I meant, no word from Gaile or Linsey? ^^ WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 12:09, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
I zoned into Ice Cliffs today and the Jingle Bear at least still spawns in Gwen's garden. I have one charmed, but didn't have it with me at that time. Will it stay permanent to those who unlocked it? Perhaps similar to the Phoenix in HoM, need to enter area alone.--Fogeltje 13:23, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
So now even the decorations have been removed and the bear is still there and I charmed it. As I added on the page before and someone took it out, it can be captured after the event is over... DustScorpion 00:32, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Size[edit]

This one is kinda big even for a level 5 pet isnt it?
Anyone with a level 20 with a screeny to show full size? -- Nox Coma 07:56, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

It's at its largest size from the get go. Secksy 08:57, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
I took my lvl 20 jingle bear to the untamed one in gwens garden and I can confirm that at lvl 20 it is slightly bigger than at level 5. George1991 23:12, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
The Jingle Bear at Lvl 20 appears somewhat larger than the Polar Bear at Lvl 20. Any one else notice this? MystiLefemEle 08:38, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Petition to make Jingle Bear permanent[edit]

Although there is no conformation - I have the feeling this pet will only be charmable during wintersday. This is very dissapointing for many of us, especially if we're still on the way of taming all special pets for the HoM. I have reserved a space on my [Talk Page] for anyone who agrees with me. --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 15:49, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Why would a special holiday pet, namely a "Jingle Bear" be available all year?

Sort of defeats the purpose of the whole thing doesn't it? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:65.184.76.241 (talk).

I'm happy with it the way it is now, simple, festive, and what looks to be a rare pet to those who miss out this year. - Byakko User Page 19:25, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
It's a holiday themed pet, if you don't get it in time, too bad, it's like the hats, you don't participate, you don't reap the rewards. Forever Heroic 06:10, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
But you can retain the hats afterwards - that's the point of this. I would never make this pet available simply to everyone. Just unlocking this year and it stays in Gwen's Garden for you to capture anytime. --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 10:05, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
yes but some of us are unable to get it at this time... my computer is down and BECAUSE its christmas, i am unable to get it fixed until after, which stops me from playing gws all together... id love to have one of these on my monk, so i agree with the idea of makin it permanent.kinda unfair on those of us who cant get onto gws during the holidaySlaphead Monk 12:25, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
If this pet stays permanent throughout the year, then anyone would be able to get it. You can get the bear if the party leader has completed all 4 EotN quests. So if you make this a permanent fixture, then everyone will be able to get this pet whether they have done the quest or not. It would be nice to see it as a fixture in the garden as it is a little empty before, but I will be happy either way as I dont use pets :P --CAJOS talk 15:19, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
IMHO, if these pets would act similar to White Moa (random/rare spawn), it would be fine.
Like festival hats, making them available to anyone would remove their "special" valor.
But, unlike festival hats, you can't just "show them to festival hat keeper", then get rid of them and ask NPC later to "craft a new one" (if they aren't charmable anymore, you can't recharm them; if they become available only during Winterdays, you'll might have to wait until a whole year in case you've replaced them with another pet).
Fact is: Guild Wars encourages players to change their pets often (get every single common + rare pets so they can be displayed into player's HoM), but does not reward players who put more time with just a single one (for example, getting a strider from pre-searing, then beating all missions on three campaigns/expansion with a beast-master build will grant just one single statue - even if it had "zero deaths" through all the game, visited every single spot in the map with your character and helped you vanquish every area of the world). There's no such "survivor pet", "cartographer pet", "vanquisher pet"; only "getting your pet to level 20" is worthy a statue. --NIN37 09:57, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
I disagree NIN37. I agree with not giving out titles for "Survivor Pet", "Cartographer Pet", or "Vanquisher Pet" as these titles are specific to the ranger profession. This means anyone without a ranger primary or secondary would be out of luck until they could change their secondary to ranger. This would at least make the "Cartographer Pet" title undesirable. That's not even taking into consideration how every other perfession would then have to have specialty titles added and all of these titles would have to be critically balanced so that certain ones werent easier to obtain than others. In short, I think it would just require too much effort to please too few people. --Jvinniec 03:56, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
This discussion is getting a bit out of hand.. All I am trying to call out for is to let the pet stay in gwen's garden when you have unlocked it.. Perhaps fixing the "bug" of being able to join someone else. --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 09:07, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

As of right now, the Jingle Bear at least still appears in Gwen's garden.--Fogeltje 13:23, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

I guess not, but ya never know what A-net is planning in the next few days :P But I was kinda trying to say that I'd rather have a new unique pet than a re-skin of a re-skinned pet(Polar Bear) :c --J0ttem™ 19:45, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
They should have done a Reindeer pet or a Reindeer miniature since it's a rarely used model, it certainly would've been better than a reskin of a reskin as J0ttem puts it. Though to get anything just for completing a few [easy] quests is enough to make me happy. Forever Heroic 06:11, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
A reindeer for dwayna and say...a grentch for grenth followers? Just realized it IS a reskin of a reskin of a reskin...dangggg. [1] I think that is quite relevant. Pets tend to attack when they are charmed, right? WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 18:29, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

White Moa do not retaliate either, it's to prevent the death-leveling method of power-training the pet into a specific evolution (I believe) - I may be wrong. - Revelation talk 02:37, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Eh, wha..? Name any ally, let alone a charmable, that attacks you. Backsword 16:44, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
A charmable animal that doesn't attack is quite exceptional. Of course you've got a point, it's an ally, but most people only think in red, green and pet. WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 16:47, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

I can confirm that the Jingle Bear cannot create a statue at level 6... (See picture) The question remains, however, as to whether or not it can be placed in the HoM at level 20... -- Frozzen User:Frozzen 19:41, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Like any animal companion it needs to be lvl 20 to add to the HoM, and it doesn't get a special statue. However, if you have previously had a level 20 pet, the statue will be added. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 19:46, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Permanent[edit]

The Jingle Bear is still aquirable after the event has ended and decorations have been removed so it is a permanent addition for those who completed the Wintersday quest line to unlock it. -- Gem (gem / talk) 06:04, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

That is good news! I notice that the Wintersday Gift Givers are still around, though (at least the one in Ascalon City is still there). Maybe I should reserve my elation until I see the bear after they are gone? 76.30.79.54 04:51, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, I've gone to the garden with the avatar that completed the quests and others that hadn't. The bear is still there for the one, not for the others (i.e. not unlocked account-wide). I took out the note stating it was account-wide. (Ralmon the Gen 05:24, 7 February 2009 (UTC))

It isn't permanent. My ranger got one for the wintersday and now his bells are gone. That was a waste of a perfectly good moa for me... 12.208.197.6 00:32, 13 February 2009 (UTC)Ject

Sorry to hear your ranger lost his/her bells... er, I mean your ranger's Jingle Bear, of course :)
But seriously, this is what I have found:
  • Using the avatar that completed the Wintersday quests, the Jingle Bear is still in the garden, complete with bells. Hero Jin also still has her complete bear. In addition, I just now had Gwen capture one, and it also has bells.
  • Using any other avatar, (Winterday quest not done), shows no Jingle Bear at all in the garden.
  • On a side note, in all cases, the Tamer only appeared if my main avatar had the ranger profession active (could be party leader-based, dunno).
So, at least for me, the bear is permanent for the one avatar. If you are getting other results, it might be useful to post them. Perhaps we can figure out various hidden reqs. (Ralmon the Gen 23:27, 16 February 2009 (UTC))

can you get them for free? If you join up with someone who did the holiday questing? 24.233.254.51 04:32, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
I acquired one by joining someone that did the holiday questing. However, after taking the bear to the Menagerie it doesn't show up in the environment with the Polar Bears. Helena recognises it as being acquired; but the Zaishen Handlers aren't able to give directions to it. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.110.128.16 (talk).
The Jingle Bear is in the far northeast, in the white snowy mountain area. You have to go through a cave to get there (I think), then walk north until you see the bear. I hope my directions help you find your bear. :D <>96.8.185.183 00:08, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Aoe attack + knockdown[edit]

I'm trying to figure this out. I have myself, 3 ranger heros, an ele and monk hench and we're doing "the wilds" to pick up the bonus. I have a lvl 11 jingle bear, heros have a lvl 10 white moa, lvl 16 white tiger, and lvl 10 crocodile. I have a mix of bow and pet attacks on my bar and the bars of my heros, but no skills outside of the ranger class. Every once in a while, I'll see all the foes around my bear get hit for exactly 20 and be knocked down for longer than usual (estimating 3 seconds). I haven't noticed this happening with other pets using the same skill bar. Whats going on?--71.115.243.68 06:08, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Acquirable Wintersday 2009[edit]

I did not do the quests for the Jingle Bear in 2008 and can confirm that doing the quests in 2009 will still spawn the bear. Ebirah 08:19, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

It does, plus you get the new white jingle moa as a bonus (or the other way around). I finsihed my quest within a hour after they where available, and my ranger now walks around with a dlvl jingle bear ^^ 86.80.183.215 08:49, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
It seems that they might not appear if the character who finished the 2008 quests has started the 2009 sequence, which can affect the spawns in Gwen's Garden. I think this is what happened with the two people who I used for confirmation. I doubt it's noteworthy for this article. In 2009 at least, you do not neeed to complete Snowball Dominance in order to get the Jingle Bear and White Jingle Moa. Can't remember back to 2008, but the note at the top of the page in incorrect for this Wintersday. I went to EotN with a new character (created less than a week ago), did the 3 Lt Thackeray quests and got both the White Jingle Moa and the Jingle Bear to spawn. Magua 09:09, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
