Prerequisite[edit]

Apart from Temple of the Intolerable, there's another prerequisite needed to receive this quest. Anyone know what it is? ~Celestia 07:20, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Scratch that, another War in Kryta dialogue that I didn't see because of a disabled team chat...run along children. ~Celestia 07:24, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
No need to fight anything, tested this on four diferent characters: Bring one or two warriors with "Charge!" and at least one Paragon hero with "Incoming!" and "Fall Back!", and micro manage the shouts. It gets pretty scary at some parts but as long as you keep the running buffs up the Mantles and the Jades will never catch up, a couple of villagers may die at North Kryta Province though. --Hail storm 08:49, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
Anyone other than me having trouble with Blimm? He seems to stop every few seconds, and halfway the 2nd zone he gets caught. I'm already bringing IMS shouts--RaXsO 10:28, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
I've got probs with Blimm to, appearently he can't run for 2 mins without taking a breakSnowkiller 11:55, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
man that was pain, had to flag all my heros and henchman to slow them down. Even had to sacrifice my self at the last moment for the greater good lol.--BobbyT User Talk: BobbyT 12:28, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
Does anyone know what happened to Cpt Langmar and Thacky? did they die? Nohjo 13:07, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
Yep, they died. That's how Gwen and Lt. Thackeray have babies after War in Kryta ;) I'm sure he's just hiding somewhere. Perhaps his magical garden?--122.111.180.153 13:31, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
Alternate Universe Thackeray time travels back to shack up with Gwen, but then some of Evil Zinn's golems show up and try to kill Thackeray Terminator-style. 8) - Zaxares 13:56, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Since Thackeray and Langmar take part in the quest, does that mean their whole event chain is required to obtain the quest? Scutilla 23:53, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

... That's a damn good point, Scutilla. Not to mention that in the reward dialogue, Salma refers to them by name. Is it possible that only owners of Prophecies and EN can do these final two quests? - Zaxares 04:27, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
I haven't got their event chain (if you're referring to the Thackeray, Langmar and Gwen dialogues) but still got to this and to BfLA.

Blimm[edit]

When I am running the last group to LA, towards the end Blimm slows down, walks and gets killed. I have three chants which make the whole party move faster, and already Blimm has ruined the run two times. Why does he do this? I would of been fine, but he stopped and got killed at the last sec. 96.42.76.247 7/9/10

Maybe it's a bug that needs fixed. I hate when new quests are released and they're hard enough as is but filled with bugs makes it worse. Blech. Tender WolfUser Tender Wolf sig.png 17:06, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
I don't think its a bug. I think hes using Healsig after he gets hit. He is programmed to be the slowest, but he wont stop unless he gets hit, which he almost inevitably will unless you leave people behind to hold off the mobs. That's how I handled it.--Shai Halud 23:29, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm having a big problem with Blimm, too. If I could complete the quest with him dead I would, because he seems to want to be. It's right at that part where the road splits, meets again, and then curves left shortly after collecting Greywind's group in North Kryta Province. He stops before he even takes damage. Is there a maintainable, 'target other ally' version of Dash?!--Ph03n1x 21:33, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
I had absolutely no issue with this quest by bringing 3 paragons (I was with a friend) heroes all bringing Fall Back! and Incoming! They were able to maintain the two shouts giving about +24 hp per second. Not a single NPC died until I reached LA where a settler died. It probably wouldn't be that hard by bringing 2 paragon heroes and then bringing the skills yourself - or putting other running skills like Godspeed and Make Haste! on the two heroes. -- Konig/talk 22:14, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
I had fb on Hayda, Razah and that other rit hero along with having them all carry Vocal Was Sogolon, but I don't have "Incoming!" unlocked yet. I suppose I better go cap it. Wouldn't hurt since I'm working on skill hunter anyway.--Ph03n1x 22:44, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
Spectral Agony of Jade Cloaks slows down afflicted NPCs by 80%. That's how I lost Blimm two times. Just leave a trail of spirits behind you.134.214.58.116 09:38, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Blimm does stop every now and then, no idea why. I took two warrior heroes, each with "Charge!", with Tactics at 12. This gives 11 seconds each of faster running on a 20 second recharge, so you can have a continuous buffed speed. Made it through twice by just running, but Blimm died both times. The third time, I ditched my Monk, and brought a Ritualist. I then highlighted Blimm in the Party Window. This put a triangle around his dot on the compass so I could see him better. Every time he stopped, I left a few spirits for the pursuing red dots to play with. Blimm started up right away again on his own, and we continued on our merry way. I ended losing one villager, and my two level 10 henchies, who could not be set to avoid combat. Darwin Iznang 03:46, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Better late than never. My resolution to Blimm slowing down was to follow him continuously (target him and keep tapping the spacebar). I used the Paragon/Warrior builds listed below. Lost a couple of heroes, but didn't lose any NPC's and surprisingly, Blimm didn't once slow down. Though I think it has more to do with keeping the party centered around him so he never got hit. Asrial 09:17, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Keep Blimm in front of you at all times and highlight his name in the party menu. Follow his path closely and leave a trail of spirits (one every five seconds or so) so as to distract the white mantle. Also, set heroes to avoid combat. All that combines for a no problem run in little more than 2 minutes.

Shining Blade Camp[edit]

If you have completed the first part of the quest, then rezone into Talmark Wilderness without completing the quest and walk towards the Shining Blade Camp, your character says this: "Other than a few residents and merchants left behind, this camp has been deserted by the Shining Blade while Lion's Arch is in danger." The Medals of Honor, Intelligence Collector, Royal Gifts and Merchant are all that remain. Jafar 17:37, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Same goes for Nebo - that is, that there is a dialogue for that. And it isn't necessarily for during the quest. It's as long as the Battle for Lion's Arch isn't completed. Might be the same for the Ascalonian Settlement. -- Konig/talk 00:42, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Skills to use[edit]

As a Warrior in the group i took Tryptophan Sig and None Shall Pass. Then i stayed twards the back of the group and used these skills when available. worked nicely.(Jaxx Hammer)--75.221.157.247 20:51, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

With Jora, Goren, Koss... just equipped them each with "Charge!" and you're pretty much guaranteed constant +33% speed all the way. This alone is more than enough to get you through this quest easily. (Would've added some paragon speed boost skills like "Fall Back!" and "Incoming!" too but didn't have them =p). I put some Rt summoning spirit skills on myself too just to cast anytime enemies got close to slow them down. This has by far been the easiest quest for me in the "War in Kryta" line. --Dracx 18:58, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Farm[edit]

Someone should make a build that can negate damage, (SF + bonder, other things) and farm this quest. Sonic Friday User Da Sonic Sig2.png 22:48, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

I agree, unfortunately this isn't repeatable so I no longer have that the ability to try it out. EiveTalk 06:49, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Farm all you want, drops have been disabled on these mobs. --SirrushUser Sirrush sig.jpg 10:38, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
What?! When and why? I killed the entire mob that chased us all the way to LA and got several confessor's orders. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 19:07, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Really? I was under the impression that drops were turned off entirely. Oh well. --SirrushUser Sirrush sig.jpg 18:42, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Are you sure it's farmable? There's a rediculous amount of enemies, huge variety of enemy builds/skills, etc. I'm almost certain one of the enemies has that necro order that removes enchantments when allies hit with physical damage. So unless you manage a 100% block rate along with SF, you won't survive for 10 seconds, let alone be able to kill things. Although I'll be damn impressed if someone proves me wrong. 114.77.108.48 11:51, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

I did this quest the other day and killed a few foes, I had some gold drop...not sure bout other stuff though. As to farming... the spirit bombing build used in fa (with EoE in it)might do the trick. not sure if it would work in pve though (as some skills might be different...anyone care to check this out?

NPC Section[edit]

How are we going to do this? Name all the npcs in every area that you can possibly meet along the way (since the quest takes place in like 5 zones) or just name the primary npcs related to the quest? The Emmisary 17:03, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Same as every quest - only list those special to the quest. Whether it is unique spawn or NPCs the quest affects (for those who are always there, like the elder of Nebo, or all of the SB camp). -- Konig/talk 18:10, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

The Ascalonians are expendable[edit]

When I was doing this quest with h/h, my party was wiped and all the Ascalonian Settlers and Farmer Dirk were mercilessly slaughtered, but Livia, Zinn, and Blimm sauntered merrily into LA alone and the quest completed. Evacuated Settlement[edit]

Upon completion of this quest, visiting the Ascalon Settlement will trigger two dialogs. On the path north just before entering the settlement, the player says: "The inhabitants of this settlement have been evacuated while the White Mantle threaten Lion's Arch." At the cliff edge near Lev the Condemned, the player says: "It's clear that the White Mantle army advanced on this location. If Langmar and Thackeray were indeed here, they would have had to choose between an impossible fight or the treacherous water below. Nothing remains to suggest the outcome." Didn't know where this info should be put, so I put it here. 24.110.197.5 17:35, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Ward Against Foes[edit]

I haven't done this yet, but will Ward Against Foes be useful? How about snowman summoners? :) Targetdrone 14:12, 17 July 2010 (UTC) OK Ward Against Foes + Signet of Spirits might have helped :). Did it first time but lost one settler at the last white mantle group - I didn't know there would be one white mantle group so far ahead to intercept the settlers... Targetdrone 14:51, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Lion's Arch Entrance[edit]

Make sure you let Livia, Zinn, and Blimm go through first. We didn't and we never received credit for completing the quest. That's stupid but it's the way the game works. Not only is Blimm a dumb bass the game wants you to wait around until the WM show up and slaughter you while every one walks in. Oh well. Rivendahl 06:05, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

It wouldn't be dramatic unless blimm was retarded and almost gets himself killed every time. I find that even chaining fallback, incoming, and charge, doesn't help sometimes, as it also triggers the WM spawns earlier. --LaniaUser Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg 17:10, 7 Aug 2010 (UTC)

Type = Secondary?[edit]

This is a secondary quest? Wouldn't this be a primary quest for WiK? --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 14:41, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

I believe primary quest is only reserved for ones related to the main storyline. WiK is just a really long side quest series.--The Emmisary 22:57, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Where's Gwen in this quest?[edit]

When I zone into nebo terrace and start the run to LA, I noticed Gwen (Hero in my party) was renamed in the same way when an identical NPC is found in the same zone. At first I thought it was because of Thackery being in the same zone, but there have been plenty of times that's happened before with no renaming (during scavenger hunt/training dialogues in the camp (7-11)) Surely she must be somewhere? Side note: This quest is a pain in the ass >.> 114.77.108.48 11:30, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

See my skill recommendations above. (Usaf1a8xx 21:11, 4 September 2010 (UTC))
I imagine Gwen is not allowed to be present because Captain Langmar leaves her in charge of Eye of the North. So unless she's deserted her post, she wouldn't be there.-Ruse 19:44, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Can't seem to get the quest[edit]

My hubby and I did the 3 previous quests but we can seem to get this quest? What are we missing? Wynterarwynrose 07:18, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

If Dinas doesn't show up a short while after entering Lion's Arch Keep, then you haven't done Temple of the Intolerable. If he is showing up, make sure you wait for the dialogue to end and get the quest from Salma. If you're going in together, try going in separately, in case one of you hasn't met the requirement. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 14:12, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Vanquish[edit]

How substantially easier is the vanquish? — Skakid 19:36, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Much, did it yesterday and there are only 150 something enemies, most skale.

'Substantially less foes'[edit]

Did I miss something? Substantially less foes? I'm guessing there are still about 150, and the area normally has around that number to begin with. I think this needs rewording. It's quite deceptive..

It's also grammatically incorrect. Not to be an asshole, really, but it's 'Substantially fewer foes'.--Ph03n1x 01:25, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
It's not. there are 148 foes. compared to the 165-211 there are normally that's a lot less. and the WIK mobs there are are not very big either. the only thing actually difficult is the assa boss (she packs quite a punch) --RhoninUser Rhonin Soren sig.pngSoren 12:05, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Speed boosts blah blah blah[edit]

I have done this quest across several characters and can say that speed boosts don't seem to matter in the NKP part of the quest. The Mantle, or at least some of them, seem to be able to run fast enough to keep up despite constant "Fall Back!"/"Incoming!" from a hero with Vocal Was Sogolon. In my most recent attempt, the mob was not only at my heels the entire time but at times well within my aggro bubble and attacking Ascalonians in melee range. Somebody (I assume a Jade Cloak) eventually casted Ice Spikes on Zinn. Unfair bullshit IMO. On the other hand, I've done it before with no speed boosts at all. This quest is garbage. Like so many others, completion/failure is entirely based on chance. 96.61.78.97 21:59, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Yes, the Jade Armors/Bows/Cloaks can run infinitely fast in this part of the quest. Other enemies seem to also be able to run quite fast, maybe up to 33%, but certainly the Jade Armors zip right up in to the group regardless of how fast you are moving. Personally I think the speed boost advice in the article could be removed. It doesn't make a lick of a difference. This time Blimm got the Ice Spikes. 96.61.78.97 22:13, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
Third attempt, same thing, Zinn got Ice Spikes. Looked back and there was 5 Jade Cloaks. Still alternating party-wide boosts the whole time. 96.61.78.97 22:21, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
Fourth attempt and Zinn got ganked again. Knocked down or crippled or something by Jade armors. (Fuck this quest.) 96.61.78.97 22:29, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
I've done the quest a lot of times and helped others to complete it. My experience is that speed boosts matter a lot and your own actions can help even more. The main thing is to avoiding letting foes get close enough to the NPCs. Keep behind your allies, not in front of them. They will run towards LA anyhow.
Any time you see a mob getting close, flag a hero just ahead of the mantle. Use W/P and P/W to maximize the number of speed boosts you can have going. Stick with shouts or other insta-cast skills. Throw in some condition/hex removal. You don't have to micro the heroes' skill use, but it can help to do so.
If you just run ahead of the NPCs and aren't paying attention to their movement or how close the mobs get, then, no, speed boosts aren't going to matter. However, used tactically, the speed boosts will ensure that the foes are never close enough to slow down the NPCs.75.37.18.241 02:10, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
