Second Birthday Celebration[edit]

Should the Second Birthday Celebration be moved down to the second level? It didn't have quests or a hat or most of what makes a big event an event, it only had drops and fireworks. Mini-pets don;t really count as many players didn't get their pets during the event, they get them throughout the year. Dancing Gnome 13:14, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Boardwalk games and things of that sort were still there, making it a much larger event than the "second level" ones. -- Txzeenath 13:22, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Does anyone know if theirs going to be a Halloween 2007 Event?

I would stake quite a lot on their being one. I would say we can be about 99% sure of it. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 01:06, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanksgiving[edit]

Anyone know if there is going to be any thing planned for the Thanksgiving Holiday? I know there has'nt been in the past but I was hoping this year would be different. Could be a Fall Harvest Fest or something. Would be cool. Ghost

Thanksgiving is different for each country (for those that have it) I would put the odds of it at very small.--Ryudo 04:31, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

But Thanksgiving is HUGE in the United States. I think players from other countries would not mind another special event.

I believe there IS this year...the Scribe mentioned two items would be available during Thanksgiving weekend...

Wintersday 2007[edit]

This is in responce to the question about Blade Radio. I will be building a full wiki page for it soon. Though its called "Nights Of The Mini Pets"...its a 3 day long event. From October 30th-November 1st...for those 3 days straight Blade Radio is giving away 400+ minis valued at over 5.6 million in gold's worth. Events in order[edit]

For the sake of making it easier to find a player run event, would it be possible for me to arrange the player run event listings into alphabetical order? Frozenwind 04:05, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

The only issue I see is that they are now in temporal order, which makes it easy to find the new events. If you want to have both listings, then go ahead. -- Alaris_sig Alaris 13:42, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Make a sortable table with date and name entries. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 19:20, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
There not in order when date is concerned, some at the top are before or after others. Simply put, its a mess =D Frozenwind 03:29, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't like them in Alphabetical order like TEF put them just now, even though it's the easiest way to give them any kind of order. They're more useful in chronological, maybe with dates next to the links as well, making them easier to organize in the future. Alpha order is completely useless if you don't know if the event is coming next week or ended 2 years ago. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 18:14, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
I don't have an order preference. However, previously, the section provided no information to someone like me who was unfamiliar with the events. A more useful list of events would be a sortable table (rather than an unsortable list); columns could include event name, last date, annual vs. one-off, highlight(s), and perhaps # of times held, sponsors, etc. Tennessee Ernie Ford 23:49, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

The previous update evidently added a new version of Talmark Wilderness, and the names of three of those weapons (fiery, icy, vampiric dragon rifle) suggest that they are more than decorative, so my guess is some sort of shooting mini-game. Reworking the Reoccurring events pages[edit]

I went looking through the four major events in GW, and I think all four should be done in the style of [[]]Wintersday - that is, each event (CNY, birthday celebration, DF, Halloween, and Wintersday) should hold all information of the event that reoccurs (i.e., don't include 09's halloween quests or that tombs was decorated for 05's wintersday on their respective pages) and have the year pages be more of holding the historical content - including what hats were released that year along with other non-repeating event. For CNY, a non-repeating aspect that'll be on each page will be the lunar tokens as they are based per year. As it stands, Wintersday is the only complete article. -- Konig/talk 21:32, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

I'd actually prefer to put some of the info on new pages; specifically he NPCs and so. There was an update to the engine so that there are new versions of several locations that are only available during the event. Before, they used to change the normal location with a new build, not needed anymore. That way we would have a shorter cleaner main article, and be able to exacttly document the changes to the cities as well as have many screenshots of them. Backsword 21:49, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

weird order of events[edit]

am I the only one who thinks it would be easier to find events if they would be sorted by date? Why spliutting the "main events" from the recurring events if both of them will happen every year? And why put the one time events like goodbye to gaille inbetween (and split into two parts) instead of moving them to the end as "one-time events"? As it is now we have to check two lists that are even divided by another part and compare which one fits where inbetween. Speaking of it, wintersday in july is at the end of the second list even though it happens much earlier in the year. your input please. [[80.137.34.128 19:38, 6 May 2011 (UTC)]]

I could see moving the one-time events into a separate historical section (I've never much seen the point of keeping them prominent or in navbars.) I do see the point of distinguishing major from minor, since they have a different impact on the game. However, they could be combined into a single table with a column for size. And that table could be sortable, so that people can look at it by date, by title, or even major/minor. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:22, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
I'd rather not remove the one-time events from the navbars, but I don't mind putting them together - the major and other events are separate because they're on a completely different scale - the former has quests, finales, special NPCs, special PvP formats and so forth; the latter has drops, maybe event collectors and DA/RBR as well. They're very different, so a separation of the two make sense. However, the article is larger than it needs to be. I propose turning the two repeatables into a single table. -- Konig/talk 23:38, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

The event calendar infographic[edit]

Hello! I created an infographic based on GW Wiki data. It shows when you can expect the event to start, how long it lasts and which special items you can recieve. I thought it can be useful, nevertheless I have no idea if I should put it anywhere without consulting community. Please, take a look and share your opinion: File:Special event calendar.jpg -- Soul123 17:41, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

That looks really good! If anywhere on the mainspace, I was thinking either Events calendar or Seasonal item (although that page would need major help to ever be useful). If it's not too much trouble, could you upload one with a white (or better yet: a transparent) background? I'd love to have it for myself :D ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 18:04, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your feedback, I'm glad you like it :) I prepared the calendar with transparent background. Unfortunately text was invisible, so I needed to change its color to black. Here is a version for you: File:Special event calendar.png. -- Soul123 18:42, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Real world comparisons[edit]

I've updated the table to reflect that in-game events aren't going to match their real world equivalents any longer. I've also updated the footnote to state that if they do align, it's a coincidence. Once ANet announces the specific dates for each holiday, the table can be updated to replace the approximate dates it uses now.

The explanation seems too long for the main article, so I'm including it here instead.

The original system had someone at ANet manually set up the dates and they tried to align the holiday to begin the shorter holidays on Thursdays and end on a Sunday, typically overlapping the real world event closely, even if it was on a lunar calendar. Lunar events, such as Chinese/Asian new year or Easter, can vary their start date by about a month. Until 2011, the corresponding in-game events, Canthan New Year & Sweet Treat, aligned closely. Similarly, Special Treats aligned with US Thanksgiving, which is always the 4th Thursday of November.

The new automated event calendar means that events begin on the same calendar day each year and last a set number of days, e.g. 7 or 14. So, going forward, there unless CNY and Sweets last a month, there isn't any guarantee that the in-game event will overlap at all with the real world event. Nor will Thanksgiving match Special Treats unless that lasts two weeks.

In other words, the old system made it likely that in-game events aligned with real world ones, but the new system guarantees that it will only be coincidental in the future. 75.37.23.57 19:15, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Last night I added that the "corresponding real-world event" for the Dragon Festival is the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, and for Wintersday, it's Christmas and New Year's. Today I find that those changes were summarily undone. Is there are a reason why we're reluctant to state this? The music during Wintersday consists of a bunch of Christmas carols. Sounds like Christmas to me.--108.36.159.94 06:53, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
Ugh, chalk that up to me completely misreading the header for that section, and not reading the note below. I read your update as saying, "Christmas and New Years start on the 19th of December." I've re-added your notes, I'm sorry! G R E E N E R 06:57, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Wayfarer's Reverie[edit]

Why is this listed as a reoccurring event when according to the Wayfarer's Reverie page it is a one off event?

The Wayfarer's Reverie page does state it is returning this year. --Silver Edge 20:39, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

All events now extended to a week in length[edit]

I thought I read this somewhere, but I now can't figure out where. Did I just hallucinate it? Trying to figure out when this policy was announced and/or came into effect. 67.80.218.108 08:17, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

http://eu.guildwars.com/news/article/canthan_new_year_is_almost_here/: "Specifically, all major events will be extended to run for a week or longer, and they will be put on a fixed schedule." I'll add a note about it to the page. --Silver Edge 08:43, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. Oh, it says "major events"--no wonder Lucky, Sweet Treats, and April Fool's didn't get that treatment. Here's hoping that changes next year (especially for April Fool's), given that we now have a week just for grog drops. 67.80.218.108 20:00, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

This portion seems to have been edited into incorrectness: "all special events have been at least a week long, excluding April Fools' Day, Halloween, and Wintersday." Halloween and Wintersday ARE longer than a week. 67.246.60.56 01:05, 15 December 2013 (UTC)

I've corrected my edit. When I originally edited that sentence, I had intended to change it to something along the lines of "all special events are a week long, excluding April Fools' Day, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Halloween, and Wintersday". --Silver Edge 03:13, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
Such phrase "at least a week long" is not very informative. If the schedule of all events is fixed (apparently), then the exact start and end date/time should be known. I would propose to add one more column to the table (next to start) with the end date or with the event duration. --37.190.37.40 10:49, 19 July 2014 (UTC)
5 years later, we still don't have an end date column. Why not? Mist Y (talk) 14:42, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

Calendar[edit]

You may recall that we used to have a special events graphic on the page, but it became so out of date that it became useless.

I've written Template:Special events year calendar and I think that it would be a nice addition, but I wasn't sure where to put it, so i've put it on a subpage ("Special event/calendar") with a link to it jammed it beneath the first table. -Chieftain Alex 19:15, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Wintersday in July[edit]

Would this event's real-world counterpart be the Midsommerfest (or w/e you wanna call it)? It's at the end of July every year, different peoples from all around the world celebrate it (it has a different name in different parts of the world but it's basically the same event), has nothing to do with christmas though. But I've always felt Wintersday in July is meant to celebrate that event. Jeree95 (talk) 17:14, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
