Double gold exp etc for VQ
This should be put up. Its already on the login screen.Yumiko ^,~ 20:02, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't know a weekend event like this even occurred ever. What with the introduction of zaishen vanquish quests I'll be making sure to have 3 quests stocked up when Friday rolls around to get the maximum possible benefit. I guess at this point that would mean NOT doing today's vanquish (and the next 2) until Friday so good thing I didn't do it already. I might suggest that others do the same. 72.220.21.110 05:26, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

- Aw, too bad Friday's vanquish quest was for Marga Coast and I had already done that beforehand (and I don't like re-doing vanquished areas). Also, if I'd saved the quest for The Breach earlier in the week I would've gotten double gold at the end of that too but I didn't know Friday's quest would be something I'd already done. Oh well, 5 boosted vanquish rewards is fine too. Pjwned 04:13, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
- And of course I forget that the weekend event ends at midnight on Sunday so I only ended up vanquishing 2 areas with double gold in addition to accidentally closing the game in the middle of vanquishing Lahtenda Bog and if I hadn't done that I would've gotten 6k gold instead of 3k for vanquishing it. - I'd also like to add that which is noted elsewhere on the wiki, due to lack of information dissemination. That is that the announcement does not indicate that there is double reputation/faction, but there is in fact double reputation/faction for double VQ weekends. I figure perhaps someone has to see this in one of the relevant places, since people continue to believe what they see on the login screen, which astounds me, given the history. --Axis 02:39, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

looking ahead
Would it be a good idea to add the anticipated next event at the top of the page, say in smaller font/italics/other color? It is almost universally predictable and would save going off to other pages for that info.2.26.234.29 09:29, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
- At one point we did have the next week's predicted event "hidden" in the code for the page, but I'm not sure putting up speculative info, even if it's 99% likely, would be the best idea, and it's stated on the page that 2011 will likely follow 2010, which is just a click away.
- I think Poke had the idea to (eventually) put all of those activities, as well as the featured article, on an automatic rotation, so maybe this would be something to suggest whenever that may happen? ~FarloTalk 09:43, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
- Just like the Zaishen quests, it'll happen when I get to it. I've already had accurate predictions running for about a year, but they were wrong last time the schedule changed. The problem seems to be that the schedule gets an annual or semi-annual update to account for the weekends that best correspond to holidays (especially Easter, Lunar New Year, and Thanksgiving), so my predictions require occasional modification. I'll put GWW:BOLD to good use soon. ;) -- Kirbman 23:25, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Page name
Shouldn't the page name be Weekend event rather than Weekend events? Everything else on the wiki is singular unless it only comes as multiples. -- Kirbman 17:25, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think so; "Weekend event" would be if it explained the nature of a weekend event, i.e. if it described the "specimen", so to speak. (Such a page could and maybe should exist.) This page, on the other hand, is an actual listing of said events. | 72 | 23:05, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Annual vs Special
- → moved from User talk:Tennessee Ernie Ford#Weekend events
- I called them "Regular" and "Annual" because those events occur regularly and annually, respectively. Calling them "Standard" and "Special" removed that descriptive quality.
- You added "usually" to the description of annual/special events dropping seasonal items, when in fact they all do.
- What's the point of kludging the name in the description?
PS I like what you did with the tables. -- Kirbman 17:58, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- The rest of the wiki calls special events "special events"; standard is parallel to special; regular...is a term I associate with good diet, not with events that repeat several times a year. Annual isn't bad term, but it's unnecessarily inconsistent. For the others, I would be okay with recurring, common, etc. — just not regular.
- I added usually b/c I meant to double-check (I figured it was easier to notice/remove usually than the reverse).
- This wiki's guideline is to use a link not bold-face in the introduction. I support your idea that Weekend event is a better title; when it's moved, then it won't be a kludge (until then, I see no harm).
- Thanks. (Also consistent with the special events article).
- – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:07, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- Fuss, fuss. "Regular" gets the dietary sense (an Americanism that you don't find in the UK) because of the sense meaning "occurring at a consistent interval", but there is the colloquial sense meaning "ordinary", as in "regular guy". However, I'm fine with not using this term if that means people won't think of (size=big)constipation(size=notbig)... ;) Cynique 18:20, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- So little faith in me on #2 TEF :P (I had already checked). As for #3, can we change that guideline? It seems pointless at best and it's the opposite of how Wikipedia does it. -- Kirbman 20:34, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Halloween
No reason to think - other than automation - that this weekend will be Halloween, is there? AR
- Many reasons. Primarily because it provides roughly the right number of days for the festival, which always ends after the 31st. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:33, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, the Halloween festival always includes two weekends and the week in between. This upcoming weekend should be the first of those weekends for this year. -- Kirbman 20:34, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Tables...
The tables of event descriptions and durations/occurrences-per-year are informative, but they break the ability to quickly drop into the page and see the list of past events, because that list is off-screen. Even worse is the fact that the majority of the events in the second table aren't even weekend events, so don't belong here anyway. The only saving factor here is that the predictions for this week and next week are clearly visible above the tables.
Well, visible, anyway. It might be a good idea to draw attention to them a bit more so that they don't look like just part of the text.
Opinions, anyone? Cynique 12:44, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
- They actually all are weekend events, since the term weekend event doesn't mean it has to be only during the weekend, but even if it did, most would still be weekend events. I put the predictions above the tables because seeing what comes next is typically more helpful to players than seeing what came last. -- Kirbman 21:10, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm. OK, so a suggestion: how about adding the {{weekend}} template to show the detail by the predictions? Cynique 04:40, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
What gets doubled during double weekends?
We used to have notes (somewhere?) that clarified what would get doubled during a double-x event weekend. Could we restore them to the current table format? For example, this weekend (2x eotn reputation): which of the following apply?
- ○ Reputation-like bounties (e.g. from Beacons of Droknar)
- ○ EotN quest rewards (e.g. by turning in the pieces for Deeprunner's Map)
- ○ Other quest rewards (e.g. Zaishen bounties)
- ○ Completing missions or dungeons (which offer rep bonuses as they are completed, not when speaking to an NPC).
- ○ Turning in a storybook.
– Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 03:00, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
- All of the above except turning in storybooks would get doubled this weekend. Turning in storybooks not being affected is noted in the current login screen announcement: "Complete quests and defeat foes while under the effect of a shrine bonus this weekend to earn double Asura, Deldrimor, Ebon Vanguard, and Norn reputation points. Points for completed books are unaffected. This boost will last through 11:59 PM Pacific (-8 GMT) on Sunday." I believe the notes you are referring to are the "Guild Wars Wiki note" appended to the login screen announcements that are listed on this page (see Weekend events/2011). --Silver Edge 04:59, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry if my point wasn't clear: every time one of these bonuses come up, people ask, "what exactly gets doubled?" The wiki used to address that directly. In particular, the text Silver Edge quoted is missing from this article, which means that people would have to wait for the announcement and/or look up an old one to see whether they should drop quests or bank them to turn in latter.
- In short, is there some reason why we don't include a note and/or the specific text used by ANet on this article? – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:40, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
- It was missing from this page because no one had added it. --Silver Edge 04:40, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
- In short, is there some reason why we don't include a note and/or the specific text used by ANet on this article? – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:40, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
- thanks for adding this week's. My point was about people planning for upcoming weekends: the article lacks the clarification until ANet announces the weekend. However, the mechanics have been consistent from year to year. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 07:00, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
- The "Descriptive name" section of table on the page can be altered to be more specific, e.g. "Double all Asura, Deldrimor, Ebon Vanguard, and Norn reward points, except those acquired from storybooks." --Silver Edge 07:32, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Since I agree with TEF and find no naysayers, I'll make the change. I find it incredibly helpful to know at the top of the page what each of the weekend events do, for planning purposes.A Liability 19:37, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
Canthan New Year etc. predictions fail
This page displays weekend events using a cycle similar to last year's. This is not a correct prediction. One error was already documented on this very page: Sweet Treat Weekend. This page should instead use a template that correctly predicts future weekend events taking into account the holiday events that follow different calendars, for example predicting that Canthan New Year will be the weekend nearest Chinese New Year. --67.87.76.241 01:07, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- The "Occurrences per year" column of the table is also incorrect. It may be similar to the number of occurrences in the year before the table was added, but it does not predict the number of occurrences that will occur this year. The number of occurrences of events can vary from year to year because the events linked to "lunar" calendar holidays replace the events linked to a 53-week cycle. In other words, these holidays can fall near different weekends each year and they will take the place of different events. For example, lets say that Chinese new year falls near AB weekend this year. Then Canthan New Year will occur that weekend instead of AB weekend, and therefore AB weekend might occur 3 times this year instead of 4. "Occurrences per year" could be documented correctly on this page as a range like 3-4. --War_Pig5 01:36, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

April 2012
Since the login screen announcements is currently bugged and is displaying the "Double XP for elite captures and double green item drop rate" event (even though it occurred during last weekend from 30 March to 1 April) and didn't display an announcement for Sweet Treat Weekend (which was active for the week of 2 April), I thought I'd go test and see if it was "Arena Bonus Weekend" even though an announcement for it didn't appear on the login screen. The result was I received double Balthazar faction for wins and flawless wins in Random Arenas, so it was "Arena Bonus Weekend" during the 6 - 8 April weekend. This bonus will last through 11:59PM Pacific (-7 GMT) on Sunday. Lady Elyssa 23:23, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
- seems someone edited out the "this week" entry... I'll look for a reason why but if I don't find one I'll remove the comment out.72.253.181.235 03:54, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
- The "this week prediction" was hidden because it was displaying "Double Luxon and Kurzick title points", which was incorrect based on the log-in screen displaying the announcement for "Double faction in competitive missions" at that time (on 8 August and for part of 9 August UTC). Since then, Twitter has announced this weekend being "Double Luxon and Kurzick title points" and the log-in screen has since been changed to display the "Double Luxon and Kurzick title points" announcement. It was also mentioned here. I have since changed Weekend events and all the other related pages. --Silver Edge 05:26, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
