hi-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 07:09, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

g-chat, got something to tell ya. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 07:11, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Making mass changes

While there might have been consensus a year ago, there seems to be a new discussion regarding the alignment issue. You would have been better off to join that discussion rather than simply forging ahead an implementing changes based on a year old discussion. The fact it didn't get implemented at that time is beside the point. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 10:26, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm not forging changes that were already there. I'm undoing changes, until there gets a new consensus. I think everything should be left alone as they were, before the new changes this one made, until things get settled and a new consensus is formed on the armor pages. I do feel there should be "consistency" and having have looked into all those pages, etc. There never was any. Nothing ever really matched the style guide and apparently with the old discussions, it didn't seem like that guide was pleasing anyway. So, i feel your issues should have been placed there and not to me. After all, it should be getting solved and not being idled again - unlike the last time of which you left it. That may have seemed harsh, but I assure you it's not. I'm being honest, but I don't know of a nicer way of putting what I've said. :-( Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 23:04, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

-sigh-

To be honest, I had really hoped that you'd move on to a better place after leaving, and find something useful and productive to do with your spare time. Oh well, I suppose. At any rate, I'm sorry for before. Welcome back, if it pleases you. 161.184.140.160 11:17, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Appreciate your concern. I am a multitasker. I do many projects on many sites, plus keep myself busy in real life. As well as spending a little bit of time playing in game. :-) Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 22:59, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

You seem to be back into the stride of wiki'ing and such related activities.

Whatever this is for, you might want to include something along the lines of

Right before the style tag, so that people can get rid of it with their monobook, if they wish. User Ryuu R.jpgRyuu - lol wiki 20:23, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
The coding it's self would be on my user page. I'm just trying to think how far down and right I'd need to go to keep it from getting in with the top tabs and the sidebar. Also, to be able to hit the preview button, etc. too. It'd be small like the email words are now. it won't be the same as that float box, but similar. So, I wouldn't need the red background. I'm thinking while background, silver border, and blue words. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 20:39, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

IotW predictions protection

Thanks for taking the time to protect my user page. Usually, I'm very sensitive to people making alterations without dropping me a note. However, on this page (as well as several others) I have posted a notice giving other contributors permission to edit (although, of course, I reserve the right to impose my own edits).

However, I appreciate the sentiment and even prefer that you revert if it's unclear to you whether other people were allowed to edit the page (i.e. I'd rather err on the side of caution). Thanks again.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:58, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

You're welcomed. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 19:58, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Why are you reverting Blue Clouded's work?

Why are you reverting Blue Clouded's efforts to document skill histories? As mentioned, there was no consensus on how to list skill histories (some liked it in trivia, some preferred in info box, some thought it belonged in notes). Even so, those conversations took place a year ago. At this point, reverted BC's work slows down the project. Anything that he is doing at the moment can be globally changed later using bots, especially because he is being so meticulous about the wording.

Please allow him to continue unimpeded until/unless there's a current consensus to do so. Thanks. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:32, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

I am reverting only the skill pages, because I like others have agreed and I still agree that it all should wait until it's all done, before implementing on to the skill pages. Having it on some and not on others is not consistent and it'd be better to do the skill histories themselves then implement them all via the skill pages via a bot. That consensus has never been contested and I was under the impression and understanding that one doesn't go against any consensus... I keep getting confused on this, because it seems like then no one was allowed to be bold and now they are, despite there is a consensus that's not contested. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 17:35, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
No one has agreed with what your are saying since I became involved in the project or since Blue Clouded started this work. (Or even since User:Falconeye started adding histories.) The issue is adding a link before there's any skill history. You are undoing work without having established a consensus that we should revert.
All of those conversations you cite were over a year ago and the project has changed since then based on who has been doing the work. In other words, whatever agreement there was a year ago is not relevant to the current project. I am strongly contesting (and, de facto, so is anyone else who has recently edited skill histories, skill articles); at the moment, you are the only one arguing that Blue Clouded is headed in the wrong direction.)
Please stop reverting until there's a current consensus. Thank you, Kaisha. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:44, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

I keep getting confused on this, because it seems like then no one was allowed to be bold and now they are, despite there is a consensus that's not contested. Also this, "the current efforts in the last 3+ months have been to link from Trivia)" Is going against previous consensus and to me provides to not be contested. See, Freedom and Wyn both didn't want it to be in the skills trivia area. Wyn didn't want it on the skills pages until it was mostly done. It's still not mostly done. I and Balistic both were okay with that. Was there anyone against that? No. Despite that yes this has been going on for 3 months of adding it to the trivia. No on bothered to ask any of these involved what happened or the outcome. Either we stop and find new consensus now, or we continue and let confusion start as to why so many pages including elemental were not linked to the skills then and why it is that way now... I'm just trying to do this for consistency and to hope to find a way to do this without confusion and a better way to solve things easier and better. It's a good project started by Wyn (I do believe - not completely sure), but it was never clear as to "how" to do things. Right now it's being done by yet another differently than the previous two, Balistic and I. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 17:35, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
I'm hoping you two will stop, until there is a consensus on how to do skill history and skill pages without confusion. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 17:51, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
I have been meticulously been adding that line of text to every skill history I've encountered that has changed, if that makes any difference. I plan on reviewing the previously-submitted skill history articles at a later date. Blue Clouded 17:54, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
@kaisha: Thank you for refraining from reverting the work on the current project while this is under discussion. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:28, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
Well, It is under discussion and I am happy to see that it's not being added to more skill pages, until a consensus is formed. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 19:32, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Trojan horse

moved from Feedback talk:Gaile Gray#I have a question

If you or any of your fellow members use avg and run guild wars... have you gotten this? ""Object name";"C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars\Gw.exe (2816)"
"Detection name";"Trojan horse PSW.Lineage.AGX"
"Object type";"process"
"SDK Type";"Core"
"Result";"Infected"
"Action history";"""
I find it very puzzling... I just installed the lastest Avg about a few days or so ago as this Laptop is new as well... I was surprise to get that as it's never done this on any other computer... Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 03:47, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Are you running TexMod? Most of the anti-virals think that its exe is a trojan (while technically true, a clean-copy of TexMod in and of itself is not a risk to you or your computer). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 03:59, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Guess that might explain it. Just don't see why it's showing up gw then and not that other. Sorry, Gaile. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 14:55, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
TexMod does inject itself into gw.exe in order to do its thing, so technically GW.exe is infected, and most anti-virals label behavior like that as a trojan. This can happen even if you tag TexMod as safe.(I moved this to your talk page b/c I suspect that there might be more posts on the topic and it's arguably not something in Gaile's area of responsibility. I thought this was better than moving it to Ask a game question.)Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:03, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. How can I get this out of the "vault"? o.o Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 17:05, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Under History → Virus Vault, you should be able to right-click any entry to restore it to the original location. You should also be able to use Tools → Advanced Settings → PUP Exceptions to add TexMod as an exception; I believe that will prevent its impact on gw.exe from getting tagged as an error. If it doesn't, you might also have to add TexMod to Identify Protections → Allowed List (also an advanced setting). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:28, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
That reminds me: the PUP exception list also shows you the MD5 checksum for the file you are now allowing full reign over your computer. You should compare that to the one listed at TexMod. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:32, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Ty. It helped. :-) Though I downloaded texmod from the links provided... This Avg is also a new version that might treat texmod it's self as a trojan. Apparently... tis what I noticed when both are suppose to be good to use. >.< Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 17:50, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
MD5 is 3A561B80CFBA394A810D528D4C05DC7E which is a match to what shows on the guide on here. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 18:01, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Super. I'm glad it's worked out. (The links should be good, but, it's not impossible for a hacker to hijack either the download or to redirect your browser to a bad copy. TexMod is far more important to validate than other third-party tools for GW because of how it operates.)
I like AVG's feature that it shows you the checksum so you can easily validate your DLs against known-good copies. And I also prefer that the anti-virals are too strict (identifying TexMod as a threat) rather than to automatically allow it; safe computing requires that we be somewhat cautious with third-party tools. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:18, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Forgot to mention, when I saw the start of that I got an instant tummy ache -- you know, that "Oh noooo!" feeling? Anyway, I am glad that everything worked out fine, and that it was more a labeling issue than a real attack! Take care, Kaisha. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 02:43, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Yep, got it resolved. Ty. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 18:53, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Texmod page and the "tt" code

It's weird that the text doesn't show up well for your monitor, it looks fine on my 16:9 laptop. Not going to bother with a revert war, but I bet it would look a lot better if you ran the ClearType adjuster thing in the Control Panel. ~Farlo Talk 19:03, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

It looked horrible on two desktops this laptop and my old laptop. The new one has that ratio, but still looks so small. I don't get to wear my glasses that'd help make it a little bigger, due to a 2 year old and I don't think some who don't have great eyesight would want to wear their glasses while looking at this page. I prefer it to be consistent anyway with other italicized words on that page. So, I hope you can please consider others who aren't as fortunate as you, when you edit. Thank you. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 19:07, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
the tt tag is definitely supported by all major browsers, so if it's not showing up for you:
  • Check your options for displaying fixed-width text in your browser; it might be doing something unintended.
    • I use Lucida Console or Lucida Sans Typewriter, instead of Courier New (which is default for Firefox/Windows iirc).
  • Your style sheets might have been altered, using the GWW CSS for your preferred skin or in the browser's style sheet.
  • As Farlo suggests, it might have something to do with your ClearType or other font settings.
You can do some manual troubleshooting by creating an html page on your PC that uses the <tt>teletype text</tt> and seeing how it appears using different browsers. (FWIW: Those tags, used on GWW, display fine to me using IE or FF on two different PCs.)
It's supposed to look different from the surrounding text, but not necessarily horrible. Mebbe you can screenshot what you see. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:15, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
I know it does as it's suppose to, but I don't think either of you are considering those who don't have great eyesight (I Love about the game is the ability to resize it.) I know it's not just chrome or Ie (I won't use firefox, too much lag). I know it's not the cleartype, it's a new computer. I'm just saying it looks horrible, not via the code or ie problems or any computer problem, but by eyesight and I am asking to consider others like me. My husband has to put on his glasses to look at that tt or get up close to the screen. he did while ago to tell me the name of one of the files that I just couldn't see. I can see what i'm typing. this is normal sight for me. the smaller, the worse. I can stand the size ten of font, but any size smaller like an 8... Really gives me a headache. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 19:23, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
I am considering that it doesn't look good to you; I'm also considering that Windows and all the browsers provide each of us with the tools to make it look better, so that GWW doesn't have to adjust to individual user tastes.
I don't like the way the default fixed-width fonts look to me on my machines, so I manually change the option... and never have to bother anyone else about my preferences. Similarly, if you don't like font sizes below 10, you can adjust your computer to always show something better for you. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:27, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
That's understandable, I just don't see it change size at all, just font, haha. That's why I was suggesting it was a computer problem, but I'll definitely keep that in mind when using it though. One other thing, how does Firefox lag on a brand new laptop? o.0 I use Firefox on my old old old Win98 machine better than the IE5 that came with it. ~Farlo Talk 19:30, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
If you do it for one site, it screws it up for other sites in a browser. I'm just saying that it's not adjustment to individual user tastes, but for the eyes of users. Just ask in the talk if others had problems with the tt. It wasn't like that before the edit that added them. Only text I see in the history of that site that had tt was gw.exe Which didn't need it either. Most edits were like I changed then back to. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 19:32, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
@Farlo yea, because I have to use most of the extensions with it... and this one offers most of what I use anyway without extensions and this one doesn't use as much resources. I can have at least 12 tabs open without a lag. On ff, I could only have max of 8 opened without a lag and that was on a brand new desktop which is still faster than this thing. ^.^ both core duo. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 19:36, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
That's surprising, mine runs flawlessly, but just like Photoshop, stick with what you're used to :P "Just ask in the talk if others had problems with the tt." Sadly, I don't think very many people (at all) look at that page... There are a couple other places that use that font, and it existed in the original article as well. I was just using it to highlight the actual file names. ~Farlo Talk 20:20, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Only file I saw was gw.exe being used in the history, which I didn't think was formatting ethnical... Course I don't know. I'm pondering on bringing this up over on the formatting page. It is something to consider and see what the majority thinks. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 20:34, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Well, that and .tpf are the only things on the page that would ever need it. I didn't know if it was proper or not, I just followed how the page already was, but made it uniform for whenever it says that. Should look on Wikipedia's formatting and stuff too. ~Farlo Talk 21:00, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
True, but only saw poke editing and adding that. It gives me a headache still... I don't think pages really need that. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 21:09, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Semi-active

is a better term. Thanks.

BTW: I changed "the" to "its" in the templates; it was a copy/paste error from my snippets page to the project page. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 03:55, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Yw. I just wish my old computers were still active, so I could copy a lot of what skill histories I had done offline (when I was banned for a year) even after I had asked Misery to remove me. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 04:03, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Aw, man. That is bad news on so many levels. I didn't realize you had been doing work while offline. I am sorry that you lost your previous efforts (and that explains why you were especially concerned to use last year's guidelines; you had done work on that basis). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:09, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
I had done a lot of work offline, hence it was sort of like a "baby" sadly. I'm basically back to square one, but I'm hoping to finish off these armors and get them done for consistency and then help with the histories. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 04:19, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
