Hi.[edit]
How's your day going? is for Raine, etc. 22:30, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
- Fine. I'm just tired of people trying to defend stupid shit that doesn't belong in pvp. How are you? ~Shard 22:30, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
thanks and....[edit]
thaks for the info btw when talking to people on Guild Wars is it through a mic or do u type??
- See Voip. elix Omni 22:59, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
- You type, though many people use teamspeak or ventrilo when forming groups in certain areas, especially pvp. GW doesn't have built-in voice chat. ~Shard 23:00, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
Credibility?[edit]
On the Guild Wars Wiki talk:Admin noticeboard page, you commented that my credibility dropped when I said Poke was not a god — Gee, I thought you, of all people, would understand. If that is your personal opinion, then this wiki really is in sad shape, but I suspect you were talking about the reaction of the 'inner circle' in general, not yourself personally. If the latter is the case, that is exactly the reaction I wanted.
As for the sig, anything particularly wrong with it, or are you just referring to history?

Seriously?[edit]
1st - "I suggest you read a history book." I’ve read many books on different historical eras including ones on the Nazi era of Germany (William Shirer’s “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich” is a good one), as well as history textbooks throughout school and college.
2nd - WW2 was not a religious war. You seemed to have latched onto Briar’s question "I'm sorry did you just suggest that Nazi's were non-religious?" which I assume he posed to show that there was a religious element in the war. I could be wrong about that since I can’t read your mind. My mentioning of WW2 was to show one example of how a secular war was responsible for the loss of a huge amount of life and to counter Briar’s notion that religion is responsible for the majority of bloodshed throughout history.
3rd - The Nazis motivation for destroying the Jewish people was not religious. It was racially motivated. They, as you said, thought they were the superior race. That, coupled with paranoia that the Jews were in control of everything and that that power belonged to the German people motivated them to embark on a eugenics program that was to eliminate all undesirables, including the Jewish people, and produce the master race. Sardaukar 23:30, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- 4th - ^ the above is correct. Reaper of Scythes** 23:32, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- "The Nazis motivation for destroying the Jewish people was not religious. It was racially motivated."
- Judaism is a religion, not a race. I win. Next argument please. ~Shard 23:58, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- Jews are actually both a religion and a race, but the Nazis were pretty famous for going out of their way to kill Kurdish Jews, so it was more religiously motivated than you'd think. There are only about 2 famous theologians from the Nazi era in Germany mainly because there were very few ministers at the time not preaching that Jews were inherent sinners. Oh, and history books aren't always the most accurate things on the planet. Pretty soon the history school books in Texas will remove Thomas Jefferson and any mention of Manifest Destiny. Just saying. Karate Jesus 00:10, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- That's because they're replacing history books in Texas with spanish literature. -Auron 00:36, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- Ever hear of secular Jews? In other words, Jews who don't practice Judaism? If you were a Jew, it didn't matter to the Nazis whether you practiced Judaism or not. If you were ethnically a Jew, you were sent to a camp. That was primary in the Nazi view. Jews regardless of religious background were marked for extermination. Sardaukar 00:57, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

- They also sent blacks, Kurds, Muslims, Atheists, occultists (which is ironic), and the mentally handicapped into concentration camps as well. Honestly, trying to claim there's any one reason for it is just asinine. Whether it was racially or religiously motivated is moot. There were probably many more reasons as well (e.g. control, scapegoating, diversion from homeland issues, etc). Karate Jesus 04:25, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

hitler was trying to take over the world, not just kill a couple of jews in his home country. the media skews the hell out of the reality of holocaust - people think that only jews were taken to concentration camps because that's all you hear about, but it sucked for pretty much everyone who wasn't pure-blooded german. hitler was insane, drugged-out and misguided, so trying to pin the blame on a single cause for world war 2 would be stupid on six levels. -Auron 05:38, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- Shard, you made the claim that the Jews were killed for religious reasons (i.e. practicing Judaism). I’m just making the point that the Jews were killed because of their ethnic background not their religious background. In other words, if you were ethnically a Jew but practiced Catholicism, was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, an atheist or simply secular/humanist you would still be swept off to the camps. With regard to the Jews, it was an ethnic cleansing. That’s why the Nazis used the expression anti-Semitism not anti-Judaism.
- Jon, thank you for derailing the discussion. Convoluting the Jewish discussion by bringing in examples that didn’t apply to the discussion was not helpful. I would never claim that the Nazis killed people from all walks of life for just one reason. But again the initial discussion was focused on Jews not everyone else. Sardaukar 14:29, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- Who's Jon? -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 15:07, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hitler wanted to kill everyone who wasn't of Indo-Aryan descent, not just the Jews. They chose the Jews as the primary evil to unite the country, then carried through with everyone else. (although the standard military uniform in Nazi Germany did include a belt that said "God with us".) --Orry 18:26, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- I think he meant me (since my real name's Jon and all), but seriously Auron is right. Blaming anything on one reason is just stupid. That's why American teenagers are stupid, because they're taught in black and white terms. For example, ask any kid what started the Civil War. $20 says he'll say slavery and that's it. Karate Jesus 18:44, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- Am I any American kid? 'cause slavery was only part of it, it was also the South afraid of the North disrupting their way of life and some other political shit. - Clever Jon.
- "Blaming anything on one reason is just stupid."
- "That's why American teenagers are stupid, because they're taught in black and white terms."
- /clap
- If you've somehow extrapolated from my comments that I think the Jews were persecuted solely for one reason then your reading comprehension is shoddy. Above I mentioned that the Nazi’s paranoia of the Jewry being in control of everything played a part too. Sardaukar 21:17, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- Not arguing here as just find this topic mildly interesting but to say it was paranoia in relation to jews, which motivated the eugenics program of the holocaust is a bit of a leap isn't it? I thought it was more the aim of a "pure blood", added to multiple factors of scapegoat-ism, fear mongering brought about from prolonged propaganda etc etc etc, which is why everyone who wasn't exactly what the nazi's wanted them to be was pretty much killed, which included many people from different ethnic backgrounds, gays, trade unionists etc... -- Salome 00:08, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
- Wait...is "Jewry" really a word? If so, I'm bringing that muthafucka back, except.....probably not in it's original context. Karate Jesus 05:54, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

- Does DND have rocket launchers and bunny hopping boulder tossing and playable polymorphs? --ilr 22:43, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- From my viewpoint, Fireball is like a rocket launcher (the dnd one not the silly gw fireball). When you use it, something (from one to any number of goblins) dies. --Boro 13:12, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- You really shouldn't be using direct damage spells as a wizard. –Jette 15:32, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

- I'm not a wizard. I'm a sorcerer. Besides I have a lot of other spells at hand. --Boro 16:12, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- Meh, we're not all that impressed. Our little gang of peeps is too busy playing/waiting on good fun games to care about GW2. The GW2 videos of the ele made me go play Dragon Age again because the game play looked identical.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 17:35, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- I would also play Dragon Age if:
- There wasn't the lagging issue that eventually slows down the game until it's uncontrollable and increases loading times.
- Bioware wasn't so bad at fixing the game. Patch 1.03 made me stop using it.
- 20gb of Hard Disk Space.
- Too much focus on blood and visual splendor while leaving other things such as memory management in the background.
- it wasn't horrendously overpriced (it doesn't really matter since I'm using other sources to get the game)
- Other than that I despise grinding for insanely rare items(the way how I see diablo), and I just simply don't like RTS-es. --Boro 09:30, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think your computer just sucks. My DA runs just fine on the highest graphics setting. I mean, it will get slow if I play it for 8 hours straight (or if I go AFK and leave it on for 5-8 hours which I have done on occasion), but the Sims 2/3 and every other game does that too...and honestly I shouldn't be sitting on my ass that long. I actually have been running DA and SC2 simultaneously.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 11:32, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
- Probably. I still forget about being in Middle-Europe. The best way to describe it is that I don't always (huge understatement) have the chance to get to the best-possible-nuclear-powerplant-powered-gear. My computer is so old that I had it before GW was released. And it was at least a year old when we got it. Also it is that it was both hardware-intensivity-combat-lag-sequence (with 768 Mbytes of memory to start with) AND the suckerupdate (1.03 - unremovable) which angered/raged/upset me just enough to hit Uninstall. Probably my computer sucks. This is something I cannot actively change. Not in this crapsack country, at least not now. I mean, it will get slow if I play it for 8 hours straight (or if I go AFK and leave it on for 5-8 hours which I have done on occasion), but the Sims 2/3 and every other game does that too...and honestly I shouldn't be sitting on my ass that long. Starcraft+[edit]
So, basically you made ghosts counter, erm, everything? O_o — Why 13:28, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- EMP doesn't drain energy anymore though. It's just decloak + lockdown. I might even take the shield drain away. It also costs more so each ghost can only use it once per battle. Also, at 25 energy, snipe is still pretty weak. ~Shard 21:26, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- Ghosts countered everything in Sc1 too, but only if you were playing single player so you could turn the speed way down to micro the hell out of them, or were on dangerous levels of Trucker Speed in multiplayer :p --ilr 21:34, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, have you ever seen computer players microspam lockdown? It's annoying. ~Shard 21:35, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, MMM is uncounterable. I agree. This is why the top player in the world is a ZERG who is compeltely undefeatable atm(name is sen) You NEVER know what you're talking about, it's pretty sad ;)
- Being beatable is not a requisite for being uncounterable. It's sad when you never know what you, or anybody else, is talking about. ~Shard 06:57, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
Mesmer update[edit]
You said that the splits would be done in a sensible manner. My question is, do you believe splits were done in a reasonable manner or do you feel misled? I personally do not think updates such as the one made to Ineptitude are needed in PvP. Misery 11:06, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- I haven't reinstalled but I seriously want to know. This is real ? /endcartmanvoice. Yeen 12:41, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- I don't believe Shard would have agreed to a lot of these, but it's important to note that he doesn't have a say in anything, really. Anet doesn't make decisions taking into account Shard's consideration, or things he's said. -- Tha Reckoning 19:50, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- Which splits are you concerned about or disagree with? ~Shard 20:08, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not so much concerned with what was/wasn't split, as what they did, like migraine and mind wrack and AoE ints and all that unnecessary stuff. -- Tha Reckoning 20:18, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- Migraine wasn't buffed nearly as much as the Beta version they initially were pushing was. VoR still totally trumps it in raw "you can't play this game now" power. And Mindwrack is sorta almost a new boolean mechanic for a lot of people and will take a bit of modifying their own habits before they get used to it. ...meanwhile the loss of FC'ing on every secondary-prof spell is quite a nerf to some forms of hexway. (that doesn't mean I like this update tho) --ilr 21:21, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- I was actually interested in your opinion, but skills that concern me would be: Clumsiness, Ineptitude, Energy Surge, Mind Wrack, Shatter Enchantment and Wastrel's Worry. I also think Migraine should have been split harder. Misery 21:35, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- We ran all these skills in actual pvp matches, we probably tested the e-denial skills more than anything else. I personally think Keystone Signet and Signet of Weariness are too good now, but the other e-denial skills like surge and burn are manageable. I really like the new Mind Wrack. I thought it would be really overpowered, but it feels just right.
- I think migraine itself is fine, but that Frustration merely existing makes both of them overpowered. That's not related to this update - those two skills have always caused problems together, though you can at least counter them effectively if you have a good interrupt ranger/mesmer.
- I'm one of those people that was around when dual-migraine and dual-dom mesmers existed, and I loved those metagames. Intelligent mesmer play is always more fun than noob VoR+Backfire recharge spam. At this point, I'd welcome anything that makes VoR less popular. ~Shard 22:51, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- YEAhh... another long-lasting cheap/faster recharging than the average hex-removal hex in the game. is it really good? 33-40 seconds can be a bit long. --Boro 06:47, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm hearing VoR being used quite a bit as justification. Isn't that fairly textbook power creep? I was originally very concerned about Keystone Signet, but the "other" clause probably makes it ok. We haven't seen much Demonic Flesh either. For things like Energy Surge and Shatter Enchantment, these were balanced, good skills that have seen a lot of use in the past that have only been buffed to keep up with power creep. Ineptitude and Clumsiness have also seen a lot of use in the past. I was tempted to use the word abuse, but I didn't want to be so melodramatic, but I can't say that I found the dual Ineptitude mesmer meta particularly fun. The skills were touted as "more active", but honestly they are so effective they can be used as fire and forget. Signet of Weariness is now somewhat better if you use it against frontline, but I'm not so concerned about e-denial on frontline or weakness on backline. Mind Wrack I admit I would have to see live to know, but it seems very much like a hex based Mirror of Ice. I know Soul Barbs is trash in balanced play, but it doesn't have a 7 second recharge or 1/2 second cast. Maybe energy hiding will make it not so bad, but it's a lot of damage and they buffed that too. Misery 09:45, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

It's me, oni, the epic god among men. you got sc2? Why? all you'll do is cry and whine about it like you did in gw, just face it, you'll never be happy.
Oh btw, I own you in sc2.
Why am I here you ask? It's quite funny, your pathethic endless crying whining rants which summed up to I seriously need to get laid has actually made people on ED make fun of you, yes, you're that sad.
Anyway, way to go crying about terran bio being imba. It's nice that you don't know what you're talking about(like always, noob)

Dodge ban? What? I reformated my comp way back, I guess that reset shit, I was suprised myself when I noticed that I could post. So my journey was something like: -Being painfully bored -Friend recommends ed to kill boredom -I first search wow, and then guildwars. -I notice that ED lols at shard -I look around what shard has written, and I facepalm at the fact that he wrote enough text to cover an entire fucking forum -I go in to post to him saying he is in ED -I see him crying about terran m&m being imbalanced -I lol -I go on sc2, copypaste my manly rank as an appeal to authority(sp) -I tell shard that he is a noob, which he is, sorry. Have him play me if you don't believe me c; -You come in your white shiny armor on your white horse defending him. I guess your thought process is that if you defend him and suck his cock enough you'll get to be mentioned in one of his pointless life sucking boring terrible rants.
players think that the first campaign, "Prophesies" was derepicwin and that all things which came after it and every addition to gameplay has ruined the game. Some fans (such as Shard) have even progressed to the point that they write long rants dissing everything that happened after the beta and declaring the game broken.
All he does is bitch and moan and you know it, stop sucking his cock and realise that.
My offer still stands when it comes to raping you in sc2, shardie<383.249.118.124 16:58, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Holy fuck has shards ammount of pathethic retarded fanbois increased? I'm dissapoint in humanity. I wonder how long it'll take untill I get banned. Getting to rank1 wasnt hard btw, it's just that after I lose a game I try to understand why I lost instead of instantly whining imbalance. 83.249.118.124 17:04, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- You couldn't even post this horseshit to the right page, why are you giving lessons on perfect play?? --ilr 17:09, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Where did I ever mention perfect play? I didn't, I called shard a noob. He is a noob in not only guildwars but especially starcraft(he doesnt know how to counter an outdated army and calls it imbalanced, that's what you call a noob)
- Whining is going "BAWWWWW I SUX SO GAME R BAD". Shard argues his points, and backs them up well as far as I can tell. You on the other hand, have just arrived and essentially gone "BAWW SHARDS A NOOB". So what if you're (allegedly) better at SC2? It doesn't mean everyone who's not as good as you is a noob. Stop trolling and go away. Shadow Runner 17:29, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- Whoa nelly, someone's trolling Shard. We'd best saddle up our white steeds and gallup to his rescue, since he's a baby 10 year and can't defend himself. elix Omni 17:30, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
It's just not that I'm better, the very fact that he says that T bioball is uncounterable proves that he is a noob. Why you ask? Why, it's obvious. Bioball is a INFERIOR strategy (everybody knows this) vs ALL races except protoss, and hey, protoss is MY race and bioball is nowhere near uncounterable for me.
Felix basically pointed out how fucking retarded you guys are. The second shard got trollflamed you all came here to his rescue.
tl;dr; I had three things to say. First was the fact that shard is bad at sc2. I just explained why he is. Second is that he NEVER fucking stops whining about anything. A game is never good enough fo him and he will ALWAYS cry imbalance despite not knowing what the fuck he is talking about(I still remember him saying that warriors would be obsolete because double dragon change would make all elementalists outdo warriors, rofl) and third, that his constant essays of him whining about how the game isnt good enough for him is so pathethic that ED even brings him up.

THEY FIND THE GAME TO BE BALANCED. NONE OF THEM CRY HT/M&M&M IMBALANCE.
I'm not saying that the game is 100% balanced. There are issues. But M&M&M uncounterable What are you? Medium level plat? Bottom level diamond? (hint; both of those levels=bad, average max) 83.249.118.124 22:58, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- It's surprisingly easy to prove MMM is overpowered. You cite Z and P (or someone else did) having 49-51% win ratios. Terrans had 58% win ratio last time Blizzard released stats. This value is also low, because more new players start with terran than with any other race. It's also low because this was during patch 12. MMM has since gotten buffs, and ultralisks have become useless. Terrans having a 60+% win ratio is definitely implying there is a problem, and since 99% of terran players run MMM, you can infer what the problem may be.
- As it turns out, terrans make exactly twice as much minerals as the other races once they get an Orbital Command, yet their units cost the exact same amount for their health*damage/mineral cost. ~Shard 19:31, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- American servers must be wildly different to European servers. No one runs MMM over here outside of Bronze league because it isn't actually that good compared to mech or tank/marine/viking. Misery 20:20, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yes they are very different. The forums are even separated by region.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 20:29, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Europe contains France; your argument is invalid --ilr 20:43, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe the euro metagame is less rush-centered. Here, many players (at least up to platinum league) will mass tier 1 units for a really long time. Terrans obviously do this using marines and marauders. The problem is that those two units alone can defeat every other unit combination at that tech level (marauders doing 20 damage a hit to buildings isn't too fun either, especially if that building is a pylon). It takes a lot more effort to beat that strategy than it does to run it, and that's not what Starcraft is supposed to be about. ~Shard 00:40, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- You saw that a bit in Europe before the roach supply nerf, but not really any more. Misery 09:49, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Remind me what the difference between roaches and zerglings is? I clobbered my SC2 directory when I found out there were no Goliaths or Reavers. –Jette 11:14, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Zerglings are cheap, weak, fast, and attack in melee. Roaches cost more, don't have a 2-for-1 special, are ranged, have more health, and regen quickly (especially with the upgrade). ~Shard 05:29, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

- Voidrays are not imba. They used to be when they could snipe an bunker without the bunker shooting it. They got fixed and they are nowhere near imba now. They are an expensive, slow, yet powerful unit which is good adding to if you got one-two expos.

Out of curiosity[edit]
What league/rank are you at starcraft 2? Morphy 08:44, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- It doesn't really matter during the beta. They've re-set the ranks 2 times since I've been playing. When the full game comes out and the constant re-sets stop, then we can boast about that.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 18:29, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

- I have a gold 2v2 team and I'm gold 1v1, platinum everything else (random 2v2, 3v3, etc), although one of my 1v1 placement matches was lost due to Bnet being unstable (this was right after patch 13 when like 80% of games were dropping).
- As Yasmin said, it's still a beta, they are still making balance changes. Last time I was silver in all formats, which was a step down from what I am now (maybe I've just improved?). Terrans are still broken, and I don't think the whole ramp thing is making the game more fun. ~Shard 01:42, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ramp thing? –Jette 02:27, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- Blizzard decided to balance the entire first 5 minutes of each game around making people block and defend a ramp, which all ladder maps have. They forgot that zerg cannot do this, and terran can bypass a blocked ramp completely with their tier 1 flying unit. ~Shard 01:58, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

No offense, but doesn't that make you a "noob"? You can't blame beta for this because there are plenty of people that ARE platinum right now. If you truly were good, you'd beat them, imbalances or not. Morphy 09:33, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
- SC1 is renown for being, well, perfectly balanced. So any imbalanced mechanics is NOT a good judge of skill. There's a reason betas exist.-- anguard 16:44, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
- "You can't blame beta for this because there are plenty of people that ARE platinum right now. If you truly were good, you'd beat them, imbalances or not."
- Your logic sucks. Some people in platinum are good, and some got there by cannon rushing their placement matches, reaper proxying their placement matches, void raying their placement matches, etc. You only get 5 placement matches in SC2. Last patch, I placed in all platinum and gold leagues. This patch, I placed in bronze twice so far, and I'm fairly certain my brain hasn't melted between those patches.
- More imbalance = less meaningful rankings. Just look at GW. Do you really think all the guilds with gold trim are "the best?" No, many of them buildwars'd their way to it. It's the same thing (albeit on a lesser scale) in SC2. I know when I lose because the other guy/team is better, but I also know when I lose solely because I didn't choose terran. ~Shard 19:19, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
- You are way off Darky. They reset so often that a low rank/placement just shows you were unlucky during your placement matches. There isn't enough time between resets in the beta to end up at your "rightful" rank, so if you face for example TLO, Idra and Nony in your placement matches and go 0-5 you will end up in bronze and it will take you until the next reset to work your way to gold. I'm currently 4-0 in my placements since the last reset. I fought a protoss who left before either of us had scouted (he did start his build order), a protoss I killed with my first reaper, a protoss I walked all over with ~6 marauders and a Terran who tried to bioball TvT, but only had marines (and some 7 minute reapers) when I parked my tanks outside his base. He had also walled off, which is pretty dumb TvT as I sniped a supply depot with marines right at the start. I'm hoping for a 5-0, which will put me in platinum/diamond depending on the mood of the server at the time, which I really don't deserve to be in. I'm probably a gold player. The beta closes tomorrow and will probably start with another reset. MY LEAGUE IS SUPER IMPORTANT! Oh and last placement I went 3-2. This was during a bug that caused people to double drop and have null matches all the time so everyone was cheesing to try and finish matches before they dropped. Terran cheese > all cheese, because you just lift off and laugh as you kill their nexus/hatch and win anyway. So I went 3-0, then had a client crash that cost me a win (would have easily won unfortunately), then I played against someone who was just better than me and I lost because he outmacroed me thanks to some early harass that threw me off completely. That placement was also very important and a good indicator of skill, being based off of one actual game and all. Misery 21:29, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Ok, let's do it your way.
Checklist[edit]
- Shard is a noob at StarCraft 2.
- Shard is in bronze league, lol.
- "Wrong. I am gold 1v1. Shard 1, Morphon 0."
- Top Diamond = good players, mid Diamond = decent players, anything below that is below average or outright bad.
- "Wrong. Top diamonds got lucky in placement matches or know how to abuse broksn units or are good. Mid gold: average by definition. Shard 2, Morphon 0."
- Placement is not a proper argument since if you were truly good, you'd be able to work your way up, imbalances or not. If you don't agree with this, you have to explain why Oni was placed in Gold then didn't have issues rising in the ranks and getting mostly wins before getting in Diamond without cheesing. It's like having luck the first time you play in a chess tournament. You might get to 2000 rating but if you aren't actually a 2000 player you'd get raped in the face in your next tournament, putting you back where you belong. The crappot. And btw, who says you weren't lucky when you got placed in gold/platinum.
- "Wrong. It takes many many days playing all day to move up a league, and they have been resetting the ladder every few days to every few weeks. It is possible to place in bronze and be unable to get to diamond in the current patch, even if you went undefeated after placements. Shard 3, Morphon 0."
- Losing to cheese strategies such as Voidrays, cannon rushes (which you shouldn't even lose against in Bronze league) and proxy reaper, which are easily countered with proper scouting. It's like losing to 4 move checkmates in chess and calling that 4 move mate imbalanced.
- "This is true, but that has nothing to do with my arguments. My arguments are that these things (at least reapers and void rays) are imbalanced, and they are. You can oppose that if you'd like."
- The things Shard complains about are not imbalanced.
- First of all, balance is a negative, "not imbalanced". It's impossible to prove a negative. Therefore, this thread will be used to disprove your arguments and "proofs" why these things are imbalanced instead.
- "No. I just asked you if you can prove X is (not imbalanced), or otherwise prove it's fine. It's like asking to prove I'm not eating ice cream."
- Void Rays being imbalanced.
- Your thread. It assumes that your opponent will get the massive amount of voidrays, which shouldn't ever happen in the first place. It's fundamentally flawed. Your "math" doesn't take into account the production time of those units. Each race can do very fun things in the time these VRs take to create.
- Protoss: By the time your opponent has created a Voidray, you could easily create a fourth gateway and 9 stalkers. The stalker push becomes inevitable because your opponent was so smart to tech for this VR unit. I could post some replays, if you want.
- Zerg: Usually it goes like this: Zerg scouts stargate. Zerg assumes you're going for Phoenixes, a viable harassment unit against Zerg. To counter this, Zerg buils his third queen. Opponent goes VR. Zerg sees this and laughs. Zerg already has a hydra den going because it's the natural tech way to go, if you go spire vs stargate you'll die to phoenixes so hydalisks are the way to go. Zerg masses Hydralisks before opponent can do shit. Zerg attacks base. At this point, the VR player has three options: a) send the voidrays to the zergs base while trying to fend it off with his small force. Conclusion: zerg steamrolls your base, at best you'll kill a queen but there is already the 3rd queen to replace that queen and zerg will get more hydralisks out before you can deal with that. b) Have voidrays in your army while defending. Conclusion: hydras completely own non upgraded zealotstalkersentry and they EASILY own the voidrays , the zerg steamrolls you. c) Protoss ragequits and goes to forum to QQ about imbalance.
- Terran: If you see your opponent create a Stargate, you create a Reactor and Vikings because Vikings counter all the Protoss air, not just VR. You can easily create 2 Vikings in the same time that your opponent creates one VR. 2 Vikings >>>>> 1 VR. End of story.
- This all proves that going all-out VR is just retarded. So are VRs just gimmicks, then? No, they become useful (nothing more) when you have a good economy running, at which point both players probably have multiple bases. Take a look at game 5 (if I recall correctly) of whitera vs idra during the hdh tournament, now that's proper VR usage.
- My position had nothing to do with void ray rushes. My position has to do with void rays. The two are very different. You have proven that void ray rushing is weak and easy to beat (I agree), but you have not proven void rays themselves don't cause problems. I'll give an example for you to start from: Imagine fighting a competent protoss player who has a decent mix of ground forces, then camps 3 voidrays outside your base midgame. Your choices are either to keep forces in your base to defend (thus preventing you from pushing), waste money on tons of static defenses (due to VR's range and speed, smart cannon placement doesn't work, you have to clump cannons/turrets very closely to kill a few voids), or lose your main building. There is no alternative.
- MMM
- Versus Zerg: Just lol. Banelings explode in Marine faces jihad style. Mutalisks own Medivacs and Marauders. If you try this against Zerg, you go down.
- Versus Protoss: Stalker, Sentry and Zealot beat small amounts of M&M if they're near a pylon, so use that to your advantage and expand. Terran will expand earlier and, if he's good, have a slight economy advantage. Then the Protoss will tech High Templars, at which point Protoss gets an advantage. Then Terran gets more ghosts and the balance evens out, resulting in a balanced micro fight. Overall, the Terran will have a slightly easier game, I admit, but it's nowhere near the insane advantage you're trying to make it look like.
- Versus Terran: Against Terran themselves, MMM is a horrible tactic. Vikings stomp the Medivacs and tanks destroy the M&M. Not much to be said here, tbh.
- "You're misunderstanding what balanced means. Balanced isn't the same as beatable. My argument has nothing to do with beating MMM. I'll give you some direction."
- "Terran has an ability on the Orbital Command which spawns 6 SCVs for no mineral or gas cost, and those SCVs ignore the "1 worker per patch" restriction (which technically makes it broken). They can do this every minute or so. Explain how Chrono Boost or Spawn Larva (or some other toss/zerg ability if you prefer) are equal to that."
- Hard Counters
- Who ever claimed these were a good design and where? Putting words in someone's mouth is a horrible way to discuss Shard, I had expected better even from you.
- "You're putting words in my mouth. I never said the hard counter system was a good idea, and I never said anybody else thinks so, except the obvious targets (like some guys at Blizzard)."
- Explanation for why all good players who agree with Shard just happen to all be wrong.
- "All good players"? Who, exactly? The burden of proof is on you, Shard. And take a look at who Oni mentioned above. Sexyseacow, tib, iopud(now known as ioppt), whitera and demuslim all think these things are not imbalanced. They think the game is relatively balanced, and definitely not the shitfest you're trying to make it look like. They also aren't the worst players in the game, to understate it.
- "I'll concede this point. Shard 3, Morphon 1."
- Not only do you admit the top doesn't agree with you, you also admit you lied about it. Way to go, Shard.
- Oni is one of the hundreds of rank 1 diamond players in an unreleased game with upcoming balance changes, despite it already being perfect according to Oni.
- http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/98316700-3.jpg
- http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/98413390-3.jpg
- Not much to say here, Oni is obviously superior to you in terms of skill. Not that anyone ever doubted that, anyway. "despite it already being perfect according to Oni." <--- again, putting words in someone's mouth. If you look up, you'll see Oni actually said the exact opposite (quoting): "I'm not saying that the game is 100% balanced. There are issues. But M&M&M uncounterable What are you? Medium level plat? Bottom level diamond? (hint; both of those levels=bad, average max)." (also funny, note Oni's gross overstatement of your skill level)
- "That's not obvious to me. I have never seen him play, you have never seen him play (I'm assuming), you have never seen me play, and he has never seen me play. How can you know he's better than me when you haven't a clue how good either of us are? Shard 4, Morphon 1."
- Modern logic is wrong.
- Does your arrogance ever stop, Shard? All of your "maths" is a simplified model that generally doesn't take into account the MAIN REASON whatever you're saying to be overpowered/imbalanced actually is not overpowered/imbalanced at all. Your thread on Voidrays? You ignored build times. Monk heals vs Rit Heals? You PURPOSELY ignored Divine Favor. I can go on like this for quite some time, but you should be getting the point by now. Admit you're wrong for a change, it might help your credibility. You can still retreat gracefully. I say take that chance. Morphy 12:23, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- Firstly, lol, secondly [2] Misery 12:58, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- Too long; didn't troll --ilr 19:22, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- "Three things on that last point are wrong. First, I was not talking about my thread. I was talking about Oni's logic that being a better player instantly makes you more qualified to understand game design and vice versa. BTW, it doesn't, or Dustin Browder would be the best StarCraft 2 player in the world, and he isn't."
- "Secondly, my math in that post does take into account the things that matter. Damage, health, range, speed, and cost. Build time of 1 void ray < build time of the total amount of units required to counter them effectively, except maybe the marines."
- "Third, I did include divine favor when comparing monk heals to rit heals. When you're a monk, you need to spend twice as many attribute points as a rit to get the same amount of healing from their spells. How is that balanced? I'll only give myself two points here, cause the first one was a misunderstanding on your part. Shard 6, Morphon 1. Have a nice day." ~Shard 02:03, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Monk vs Rit[edit]
Out of curiosity, why is it that monks are run in GvG over rits? Is it because of prots? King Neoterikos 09:19, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
- Because I'm obviously Shard, I'll list a few points without really elaborating. Prots, hex removal, reliable condi removal, divine favor, flexibility on the battlefield (i.e., can quickly run back to base and heal npcs), second prof free to take self-defense skills (and spec up to 7 or 8 in them), energy efficient heals, a number of powerful elites, and they don't have to rely on spirits for half of their skills to be any good.
- Rits are occasionally run in high-end play, but usually as an additional healer/support character (flagger, stand bitch) instead of a replacement for the first two. -Auron 14:55, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

- Camtasia is probably the best if you care about quality, but you have to pirate it. –Jette 07:58, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- i have and love camtasia, just hes got a higher framerate than i get (set @ 30FPS), probs because im on my laptop when i record, and its like 2 yrs outdated. Its processor sux ;( (ASUS G50) --The Scythe Has Fallen 17:08, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

- Is your screen from the 70s? You should probably upgrade. Did you know they have sixteen million colors now? It's incredible! –Jette 17:42, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

- I don't use fraps, but I'm guessing you can get it from the usual websites. –Jette 16:17, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- on Shard's page says its directed @ him.. but i just find the quality of Camtasia is overkill & wanted to try out fraps recording, everything ive found has trojans ;\ --The Scythe Has Fallen 16:38, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- got a working & non-trojan one :) --The Scythe Has Fallen 17:09, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

gamer[edit]
i'm not gonna pretend anyone except skillz chasers care about who got rank 12 first or that it belongs on the page (it doesn't), but it is verified that dan was the first. the highest rank skillz chasers are known in the skillz community b/c it's not an especially large community, and the only efficient way to get skillz pts is to sync. obviously, not all syncers sync with each other, but over the course of years, different groups will have faced each other numerous times. dan was the first. --VVong|BA 03:40, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Here are the conditions in which you are allowed to post that information in the Gamer page's trivia section:
- You work at Anet or otherwise have access to information about who has what titles and when they got them.
- You have screenshots of everybody else's account's skillz rank and none of them are maxed out.
- Since you have neither of these things, you may not add that trivia to the page, as it is likely wrong, or at best, unverifiable. ~Shard 03:51, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- If you get Emily to confirm, feel free to post it! -Auron 04:17, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- shard, first of all, it wasn't me trying to add it and i wouldn't have tried. i'm just saying we know who was first. do you feel it's unconfirmed that starcraft was the first to get r15 hero? o rly? auron, the hero page doesn't even list starcraft, and i'd say 'many' more ppl pay attention to that rank than gamer. if starcraft were to get his name put up, then dan would deserve a mention, but i'm not the one pushing that. i'm just saying. --VVong|BA 13:45, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- SC was confirmed as the first by Gaile.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* 18:06, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- I still wouldn't even put that on the rank page though, because of the huge dispute about it. The whole "it doesn't count because he broke eula" or "he got free fame" bits. If it's confirmed by someone from Anet that the dan guy or whoever got whatever then I don't see any reason not to, seeing as there's not as much hype about it as there was with r15 hero. -- Tha Reckoning 18:14, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- We also don't mention any player's name on the wiki either, unless they have an NPC named after them or something relevant like that. The fact is that you don't know who was the first to get this title. How do you some korean didn't get it months ago? Knowing only one person with a title isn't proof that they're the only person with it. ~Shard 00:42, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- I didn't think any Koreans played the game since 2006 or so. –Jette 01:12, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

- Aren't all the real koreans playing SC2 in those gaming hall things? -- Tha Reckoning 02:20, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- pc bang. and i'd imagine after today, u won't see much of the koreans anymore. as for korean skillz syncers, no. i can see your point from a philosophical view perhaps, but you apparently don't know much about the skillz groups. --VVong|BA 02:41, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- You're right, I don't. That, however, still isn't good enough for Gamer trivia to list who maxed the title first. ~Shard 02:43, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- You are only allowed to first a page when someone just archived his/her talkpage. InfestedHydralisk 02:48, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
