Quick Copyright Question

Hello, I was thinking of making a userbox for the guild I am in. I was going to use our cape colors and logo. However, the default Sword flourish cape emblem.png doesn't really show on the colors I have right now. I was thinking I could upload the picture in gray, but I just wanted to make sure that didn't violate any copyright restrictions. Any insights on this would be most appreciated.
Thanks, Shadowblade Morik 21:39, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

I don't think Wyn is on right now, so I will field the question in her stead (with apologies to Wyn if I'm wrong). You are free to modify and upload any ArenaNet-owned resources to this wiki, provided you understand that they are still the sole intellectual property of ArenaNet and give credit as such. In short, yes, you may do that. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 21:52, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Just make sure when you upload the image, you use the {{arenanet image}} template and you'll be fine. See Guild Wars Wiki:Image use for more information. --Lania ElderfireUser Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg 22:23, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Many guilds, including my own have recolored the guild emblems for their guild pages. In game they are all recolored so it's not much different than using a screenshot. But as Lanis indicated, you should use the {{arenanet image}} licensing tag when you upload it, as well as the {{guild image}} tag, and be sure to name it properly in accordance with our GWW:IMAGE policy. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 22:41, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good. Thank you very much, I just wanted to be sure. Shadowblade Morik 01:21, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

one of the pages is deleted, other is moved over to it and the first is restored or something. -Auron 12:01, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
Ok, maybe I'm just stupid Xeeron, but I don't know how the history from the historical page can be merged onto the active page without a deletion.... The recent creation of the active page was an error on the part of the page creator, instead they should have moved the historical page back into active status and then made the new edits. I thought the new page would have to be deleted to move the historical page out of archival status, and then restore the most current edits.... that takes a sysop I thought. (I don't know, I used to do it when I was one....). -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 12:05, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Filing a report

I believe you're an admin on this site, but if not could you please inform someone who is, because I'm not 100% sure. Anyway, on to the subject: I posted a suggestion/discussion in the Bloodstone Fen talk area, only to get a very rude comment by someone telling me to "shut the fuck up". The person who said it has harassed me on various other sites (though I know that has nothing to do with this), but I don't think it's right for that to be on here. In fact, I believe it's strictly against the rules. So I'm reporting this. The link to it is here. Thank you. Tender WolfUser Tender Wolf sig.png

Regardless guys, Mini Me's response was inappropriate and he knows it, because he's a troll, unfortunately, there is nothing I can do about it, and none of this belongs on my talk page. Clarification

I haven't read all of the page yet, but I saw this and wanted to clear it up: "While I'm a "dabbler in politics" and used to be part of the "administration", and you have stated a preference to not have that input, here it is anyway." As I said on the CP talk page, "Input from all users who have the wiki's interests in mind would be welcome" - I only specified those non-dabblers because their input is as important as dabblers yet they usually don't dabble in politics (hence their being called non-dabblers). Since the trolls affect these users too, it's important to make sure they provide input as well as those who do dabble and would comment anyway. In other words, I wanted your comments, too. -- pling User Pling sig.png 12:39, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

It's fine Pling, I know we have both been critical of each other a lot lately. While I applaud the intention of what you are trying to do, I don't see it accomplishing anything really useful. While it might address a few immediately evident problem users, it really doesn't provide any solid guidelines to let the community really understand what the expectations are of ALL members. I think that is an important component. It also relies on personal judgment of sysops that, excuse me, but up until now have been reluctant to make many of those calls if things don't fall between black and white lines, imo, for fear that what happened to me will happen to them (face it, what happened to me was directly due to the troll community here). -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 13:04, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

YOUR TYPE OF FUN IS NOT WANTED HERE

Posting here because doesn't belong there.

A nice little expression. Really, though, if all we're here to do is documenting the game, why do you spend so much of your time helping users build userpages? Those have nothing to do with documenting a game, and yet it's "okay" so spam RC with template editing and so on? K.

Also, what about this page? IS THIS TYPE OF FUN WANTED HERE?

Who the (I'm trying to phrase this delicately) fuck are you to decide if THAT TYPE OF FUN IS ALLOWED HERE? Obviously your fun is okay, why are we not allowed our own userspace fun? Wanks! NuVII User NuclearVII signature 3.jpg 20:54, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Documenting player's characters, and character progression through Guild Wars is the most appropriate use for userspace I can think of. The fact it is also the only place on GWW where users are allowed to be creative in wiki coding is what attracted me to it in the first place. The crap the trolls call "fun" in userspace, Vili's wtf chain, and all that kind of crap is better placed on 4chan than here, as it so obviously has nothing to do with Guild Wars AT ALL. As for my single "fun page" comparing Jora and Livia, well, that still has a very obvious tie to Guild Wars. Can you say the same for the "You're a nigger" "No, you're a faggot" type of crap that is considered "fun" and "joking around" by these "trolls"?
As for Who The Fuck I Am... well, I'm someone who has spent more hours than you could ever consider committing to productively contributing to this community. So you know what Nuk? I don't really give a shit what you think about what I posted. Chaos asked someone to draw a clear line of where the "trolls" should have their fun.... I gave him an answer. The fact that you don't like it is your problem. I really don't care if anyone else agrees with me, but I think you might be surprised by just how many do. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 21:17, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

New explorable

Only TW had a new location created; the rest is just new spawns on existing maps. Backsword 15:34, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

That's nice. The fact is however, that the npc's don't show up if they haven't completed the requirements, and as such, they really need to be treated as separate. Also, this will allow for easier expansion as new things are added. As it is now, there is no way for people to really see the new content, it's all spread out on npc pages, and here and there... This gives it more cohesion. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 15:37, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
We document the game as is, not as it would be easier to understand. We should not invent things that does not exist, even if that makes theings easier for us. We should certainly document those eoncounters (I started that section), but it should either be done on the event page, where people can find them now, or on the pages themselves, if permanent additions, since that is where people will be looking in the long run. Backsword 15:49, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
Well, feel free to argue your case, these pages can easily be deleted if consensus determines that's best. I don't think many will agree. I personally thinks it's bad that this stuff has been happening in game for 2+ weeks and isn't available in an easy to find format. I'm sorry you disagree with my method, but there are others that feel it's a good solution to a problem. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 15:53, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
i Suport wyn here, in the case of GW:B, it counts as a new campain ontop of an Old campain, so the new areas must be listed.--Neil2250 , Render Lord User Neil2250 sig icon6.png 15:57, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
Due to the situation and conditional appearance of these NPCs, I would think that it would be logical to put them in their own sub-page of the location at least. Having all their info spread out would be like having a quest page spread over the NPC's pages that are in that quest. If you believe the general talk about new quests being added soon, and that those quests will directly relate to this, I think a new "expansion" in a whole should be created. Arenanet themselves call this new content (and content they have released over the past year) as a type of campaign. I see no harm in misting the related content, NPCs, locations, items, and quests (when they arrive) in their own page for easier and proper organization and documentation.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 16:07, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
If GW:B is going to continue to grow (as I believe has been hinted) then I would prefer to see a central area for it (which already exists) that points to the new areas/events as new pages. The new maps support the idea of storyline progression, and if there are many changes to NPC’s then the maps have, in essence, progressed as well.
From the standpoint of someone who doesn’t follow the story, traveling to these new maps after finishing Proph would be rather confusing, and staring at one wiki page filled with caveats on NPC's wouldn’t help. A nice, direct link to a new version of the map would be the cleanest transition in my mind. G R E E N E R 16:34, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
I created the nav bar to put on the War in Kryta page to make it easy to follow. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 16:37, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
Backsword, I think you're misunderstanding the "(War in Kryta)" part of the titles - it doesn't mean they're technically separate locations in terms of the IDs and all that, it just means that the page's content is only available when the conditions for the War in Kryta are met. "We document the game as is, not as it would be easier to understand" - we do both. Easily understandable documentation is absolutely key, and it's what Wyn (and others who discussed it) had in mind when creating those pages; separating the "normal" things and the War in Kryta things makes both simpler to understand, less complex, and less complicated, particularly for those who haven't met the requirements yet. -- pling User Pling sig.png 17:28, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Dear madame troll, perhaps these pages can help you fictive game. Backsword 17:45, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
I am not a troll, unlike yourself, and how is anything I have done creating fiction? Everything on those pages are currently happening in Guild Wars, and some of it has been happening for 2 weeks. Would you be happier if they were titled as subpages as I originally proposed? I named them the way I did because that was what was recommended as being more appropriate by other members of the community. There is nothing anywhere in the formatting guidelines that require something has a separate id in the dat file to warrant a page. I would bet that a very large majority of the people who come here for information do not know or care if it is a separate id location in the dat file, they simply want to be able to find it with relative ease when they get here. Your claims that we don't consider the ease of use of the information we are providing to players is just ridiculous, as are so many of the things you do and say here. Face it, you are fighting a losing battle on this one. Move on to something less trollish, and more constructive. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 17:53, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
^ agreed. Wyn is only following the guidelines and the community as a whole. If you wanted to have your say in it, then there probably was a discussion about it somewhere and you just missed the memo. Also calling factual game material as fictitious is ridiculous.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 18:12, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello.

This is no way a big issue to me, but I am always open for opportunities to educate myself on anything and everything.

Having said that, I've read a few posts here and there and I can clearly see you used to be a an administrator here on this wiki. With that in mind, I assume you know a fair bit on policy. Well, I was curious... For guild pages, is one required to put the correct image of their cape or are they allowed to fake a gold trim? I am not sure on such a policy or if it even exists so that is why I am asking you.

The following links are what I am refering to: this cape image being posted for this guild. --Strong Like Magikarp 09:17, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

There is nothing in policy against it, there may be some community backlash on them however. Other than the fake image, I'm not seeing any indication that they are trying to claim they actually have a gold trim. I guess if you have a concern, I would voice the concern on the talk page of the person who posted the image, as well as on the guild's talk page. I guess if they truly want to misrepresent themselves to the community in this way, it's only going to damage them. Obviously I (and I think the rest of the community) would prefer they didn't, but as they are technically not violating any policy, there is nothing we can do other than try to convince them of the error of their ways. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 10:18, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for the prompt reply. While I agree it is a bit silly, I am not too overly concerned about it since I now know it is not against policy. --Strong Like Magikarp 10:37, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

In need of template help?

I'm trying to make a better (for me) template for my characters (current progress), most of it is modified version of Cloud Xan's char template, but there's one thing stopping me: I want the title section to be done by rank, and not by point. I don't know how to make it work so that it is done by rank to work with the character template. Think you can help? -- Konig/talk 20:10, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

You would need to redo each bar separately to adjust the value. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 22:55, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
Looking through the list of title progression templates, I'm rather surprised to see that there aren't any that you can update based on title tier achieved, rather than your point progress. The simple solution (without editing any templates, which is a huge pain) would to just update your point progression based on intervals of tier achievement, rather than your exact point progression.
Actually, upon looking further, I found this template, which does display the rank achieved based on the progression amount you enter. (Example) That could work. User Ryuu R.jpg Ryuu - Meow~ 23:43, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
Ryuu, Konig is using Cloud's template, and it is set up to be based on point value rather than rank value. If he wishes to display based on rank value, he has to redo each progression bar in the template. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 23:48, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I see. It's rather hard to tell at a glance from this example what template he was using for his titles. And... Unless I'm looking at something weirdly, that template displays it on a point value, and then a rank value. I don't really see the issue. User Ryuu R.jpg Ryuu - Meow~ 23:54, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
You can see pretty easily which template he's using by checking in the edit window... all used templates are listed at the bottom of the page. The issue is, he wants it to display the progress by ranks without the points. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 23:59, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
There's not a real issue, but rather that I don't like having to keep track of points, and that going by rank only is easier. Its a preference thing and as Wyn pointed out, I used Cloud Xan's templates as a base (I would use his, but I hate the mini thing and would like to change the titles, along some other minor changes). -- Konig/talk 00:08, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
Well, you can create your own template using basic progression bars or you can copy over each of Cloud's into your own space and make the adjustments you wish. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 00:19, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
Thing is that I don't know how to make a new template for the titles, or where to change Cloud's. Hence why I asked help. -- Konig/talk 01:09, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
Ok.. I considered it, and no, I won't do it for you, as this is a complex set of templates (33 in all) and I just really have little if any interest in doing it, I didn't want to do it for mine (and I didn't) so I don't know why I would do it for someone elses. Sorry. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 01:55, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
I could take a look at it and see if I knew how to do what you want it to, but first Id need to understand what that is, exactly. You want it to where you input some number, and it takes that number to display the rank for said title. Are you wanting it to where you input what rank you have, and it organize that way, or are you wanting it where you put in points, and then it organizes by rank? That, or are you wanting the progression bar be the entire title, and each level of the bar is one rank in the title (Thus the asura title bar would have 10 levels, one for each rank)? Now that I think on it, Making a bar display what rank you have based on point input and making it sort based on gained rank, and also making a bar display total title wouldn't be too difficult.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 03:04, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes Neithan, that's what he wants... the Asuran bar to have 10 levels, and he just puts in 1-10 and it shows the name of that title rank.... -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 05:30, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
Alright, Im in the works of making it. Ill have to continue it after a rest, though, its late (or early?). Just gotta say, man it took me a while to wok out how he got his template to work, but now that I see how, its simply awesome. Its given me ideas (run away!! O.O). Ill have to be sure to give credit for the large number of templates to Cloud_Xan (and through him, Y0).--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 07:14, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

strike tht go go sandbox! yeye if u look theres like 7 posts on my sig fixing it up :D lol anyways the sizing question still remains --User The Scythe Has Fallen Sig.jpg (Talk/Contribs.) 20:48, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Actually, your sig image is out of compliance with our Signature policy. Images can be no more than 19px X 19px, so using one that is your entire name is not possible. I would suggest either doing like I do and use a monogram, or pick something else. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 22:58, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
thx for the help wyn, i really apreciate it however i have one final request: could you take this, work your wiki magic :) and make it look like the background on his wiki page, not make the images match, just apply the black so that it will fit to your current window resolution all the time. Thx in advance after this i think ill be ok and not need to bother you anymore about this :D --User The Scythe Has Fallen Sig.png allen Scythe (Talk) 00:35, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
Strike that im going 2 use my asuran screenshot for it: file_> (idk how 2 do file links) :( File:User The Scythe Has Fallen Asuran screenshot.jpg if u dont feel like doing it just tell me how 2 do it and ill do it myself, for pic editing i have Picasa 3 (Google's editor) GIMP 2.6 (one from the textmod tutorial on wiki) and MS paint :) --User The Scythe Has Fallen Sig.png allen Scythe (Talk) 00:40, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Is there a way...

To have text go over images on the wiki? I think I recall seeing a userpage with such a thing, but can't recall who or how. Or if I just misremember. -- Konig/talk 19:39, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
