I need your input.

Before I get to far into this little project of mine, I'd like to run through it with someone who knows more than I do. So, I'm trying to get a lot of the Item pages more cleaned up and looking nicer, with descriptions and organized listings and categories and whatnot. (Example here), and I was wondering if an item still has "ongoing drop research" (as most do) should it be left as a stub? If that does qualify the article as a stub, then most item articles would still stay as stubs. If not, then by doing this I can reduce the number of "incomplete" articles (stubs) by a great deal by only cleaning them up and adding a few fancy words. What do you think? Should I just leave it at cleaning up and adding needed info, or should I also remove the stubs regardless of the drop research status? --- Ness Hrin User Ness Hrin SBIcon.png | 23:35, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

I don't believe ongoing drop research is an indicator of a stub article. If you feel that most if not all information available about an item is properly documented on the page, I would say that the stub tag can be removed. It doesn't stop anyone from adding something later, simply takes it off the list of pages that people should strongly consider adding additional information to. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 00:04, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
You may want to check over the drop research pages however to make sure there isn't information that needs to be placed on the page... like Avicara Ardent Robes. The Salvage research table indicates it can also contain silk, and that's not on the main page. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 00:08, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I was trying to get at. I didn't think that the research should qualify a page for a stub, but I wanted to run it by someone who has more experience with these things so as not to do more damage than good. Thanks for the response, now I have a lot of work to do! Also, hurrah for edit conflicts. :P --- Ness Hrin User Ness Hrin SBIcon.png | 00:11, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Btw, items that still have ongoing drop research should be added to the [[Category:Ongoing drop research]]. I wanted to do that last year, but never got around to completing it... - Mini Me talk 10:06, 4 July 2010
Thanks! That's a category I wish I knew existed. I'll pretty much add it to every item now... Oh well. More editting fun! --- Ness Hrin User Ness Hrin SBIcon.png | 10:40, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Whom did you mean

Well, you're still not explaining why so many of us are not having disconnect problems. The second person pronoun has an ambiguous antecedent. I assume you meant User:Magic, right?  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:06, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, you ec'd me, as I noted. Sorry for any confusion. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 01:11, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
No worries; I appreciate you taking the time to clarify. (I usually rephrase my text rather than {{ec}}, so I'm not really sure how ppls avoid this during copy-pasta.)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:15, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Chrome vs Firefox

Hey, alot of things in game have been happening, leading me to think about switching to chrome for an internet browser. However I like and use the -moz command on my wiki pages. Would you know if this code somehow accessible in Chrome? Thanks.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 18:41, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Hey, if you want to use that same mechanic on Chrome, instead of -moz use -webkit. --- Ness Hrin User Ness Hrin SBIcon.png | 18:53, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
So instead of -moz-border-radius it would be -webkit-border-radius? Or does webkit cover moz aswell?--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 19:41, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, just replace every moz with webkit. And no, you can't get it work on both kinds of browsers as far as I know. Putting both elements in the same style sheet doesn't work either (Trust me, I have tried). So you can only get it to look pretty on one browser or the other. --- Ness Hrin User Ness Hrin SBIcon.png | 19:47, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
User talk:AlexEternal works for both. --Riddle 19:57, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Huh, so it does. For some reason I remember both elements not working at the same time, but obviously I was mistaken. Thanks Ezekial. (Sorry for taking up your talk page Wyn. xD) --- Ness Hrin User Ness Hrin SBIcon.png | 20:24, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Greetings!

No doubt you've never heard of me; I'm not exactly what you would call "Famous". Ironically, I've gotten Kind of a Big Deal but not People Know Me, which is true in more ways than one. Anyways, I didn't exactly come to your talk page to spin off half-spun puns and jokes, but to ask more of an opinion/request. No doubt you're a tad higher than well known around the communities, and have provided many templates on your user page that I see others use, and even me personally have used. Anyways, I was thinking about making/looking for some sort of template that I could use as a checklist for skills unlocked on my account (and maybe even items like mods). My problems are:

1) It would take a lot of searching to fit all of the skills in. This eats up considerable time when writing templates, which you definately know more about than I.

2) It becomes large and messy. As a checklist, the major concern is making it usable: if I fit all the skills in with all the fancy images and formatting that most of your templates use, it becomes far too large. But if I focus more on how small it can be, I fear that it won't be a good checklist due to lack of accuracy.

As a master of templates, what would you recommend as a foundation? Would I be better with splitting them up by profession, by campaign, or something else? Or maybe a similar template exists that you know of and I could modify it to my needs? Thanks for listening to my plea, whether or not you can help. Blue Clouded 22:54, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Back, when I was unlocking skills, I created a simple list of skills - or to be precise: just the icons - and simply removed that icon when I unlocked the skill. I guess having a template that is able to track every single skill in the game would be hell complicated (think of one parameter per skill?) and just striking no longer missing things by removing it from the list is far easier. What I used back then is still available on GuildWiki, see for example this revision of my userpage there. poke | talk 01:32, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
As for how you want to split them up, I would start by splitting them by profession. For ease of editing, a simple alpha sort is generally the best, since you only then need to know the name of the skill, not where it comes from, attribute, or anything else. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 01:44, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Is this just for tracking? Or to share w/others? If tracking, I use excel, although virtually any spreadsheet/text/word processor could handle this. The spreadsheet at Google Docs would also allow you to share (although not in the wiki itself). If tracking is your main goal, I can give you an alpha list (w/profs and elite status) in my user space for you to copy. (It's the offline version of Poke's suggestion.)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 03:26, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
I thought this was a good idea so I started making lists, you can see them here, the skills are in alfabetical order. They only include skills that can be unlocked from the Priest of Balthazar. --Qaletaqa Hania talk 07:44, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Since Qaletaqa beat me to it, the text only version has all skills in alpha order, which campaign, elite status, and whether acquirable via quest. He means it can be taught via heroes. Ww I think is supposed to indicate which trainer (when there are two in similar area).  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:08, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Done with making the skill checklists, I made seperate pages for each profession, i'll give the links: Warrior, Ranger, Monk, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist, Assassin, Ritualist, Paragon, Dervish.
I might make checklists for Runes/Insignia and mods, that can be unlocked by the Priest of Balthazar, in the near future. --Qaletaqa Hania talk 11:17, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Thank you so much! I forgot to check back and it's great that people responded. Thank you very much Qaletaqa for the checklists. I will be sure to incorperate them into my users. Thanks again! Blue Clouded 20:02, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

:/

You're right, the page doesn't affect me. I don't answer questions on it, I don't archive it, and I really have nothing to do with it. But that has nothing to do with the argument I put forth. It should really be a tip-off - it's not something I'm arguing for on my behalf. And unlike some others on this wiki, I don't see this wiki as a me vs everyone else deal. I don't have to be involved to see that the page is a complete waste of time. I don't have to tell 10 or 20 or 50 people to contact support before I am entitled to talk about how pointless the page is. Stop acting like I do. The wiki is not an MMO where I have to grind x amount of contributions or project help barnstars before my voice can be heard. I simply see a fundamentally flawed project page and am trying to correct it. Please don't attempt to discount my contribution via fallacious arguments. It is not going to work. -Auron 03:01, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Then stop discounting all the people who do use that page. No matter how inappropriately they use that page. Contacting support is a seriously obnoxious process, and especially for people who have never done it before, having a place where they can get any kind of personal response is often all they need to see they process through. As you have the right to argue for taking that away from them, I have the right to argue for keeping it. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 03:04, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
It's a project page on the wiki. It's not about fighting homelessness or helping poor children. I'm not taking it away because I'm a cold and heartless bastard, I'm taking it away because the project is not beneficial in relation to the amount of effort put into it (for example, help:game and help:wiki are both fantastic, and while both require significant maintenance, they're a net gain for the guild wars community). My point of posting here was to prompt you to try to defend the page without the red herring of "i'm here to help people and anyone who doesn't agree with me is a big meanie-head." If you have legitimate reasons for keeping the page, I'm all ears. If it's just a personal crusade, I could care less. And when the first thing you say in a debate is "oh you shouldn't be posting here because you don't help with the project," I've really got no choice but to ignore it and focus on the actual topic. -Auron 03:23, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
That's fine with me Auron, since you tend to ignore what I have to say no matter what my argument, I'm used to you being a big meanie head. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 05:08, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

I do miss irc, but it might tempt me to play GW again. The LotR racist bit that Auron had still makes me chuckle sometimes. Anyways, on a more related topic, it is (or was the last time I played) a very thin line between griefers and doing what it takes to get wins in GW. When gimmickry is the only way to win, who decides which players are which? Griefers do it to lol at putting other people down, and winners do whatever it takes to win. They're both doing the same thing, and they both have their reasons, it's just hard to tell the difference when you play against them. -- Tha Reckoning User- Tha Reckoning Another Sig.png 00:33, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, this topic has swung wildly off topic. I would like to ask that it be taken elsewhere. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 03:24, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
