Faith & Wealth[edit]

I hope you got the guild tage as well ;D ... I have to confess though, that it took me long to see your talk page edit. Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 21:26, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Oh, i think i did. GP = Guildpact, right? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 06:30, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
A pity that the name of my favorite baroness already was taken. =/ Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 13:29, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Wait, there's a Guild named "Teysa Orzhov Scion"? O.o I know a bunch of Guild Wars characters named after a magic card, but a guild? Oh btw, while we're at it: You can sac those spirits best at midnight But you being quite the Johnny player i guess are aware of that. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 21:37, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Usually, I am just a Mindbender and force her to be able to. Oh, and actually I meant I wanted a character with that name :< Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 14:15, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
D'oh, i should actually have known you're refering to the character name...i regrettably couldn't call my Mesmer Meddling Mage either :C
I normally don't like Mindbenderish cards, since they are dependant on combos and only rarely worth combining...all of them should be cantrips imo :/
While Darkest Hour on the other hand isn't that useful by itself either, it can synergize with more than only one card at the same time. (See that card comment there for instance, i wrote it a while back when i had too much time in my hands, lol) You see, i'm quite a Johnny-Spikeish mix, in case you ever heard of those player types. Otherwise take a look here, yet i could bet my canary bird you do know them ;) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 15:14, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
I'd like to do some more or less casual (depends on your play style) legacay rounds via Magic Work Station with you. say so, if interested. ;) Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 01:29, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm certainly casual player, glad to see legacy (without a second "a" actually, just mentioning it right now since i know such reading errors are never noticed in general, i thought for years that one ability was called "cultimative upkeep" for example^^) is your prefered format, too. Most of the time i just design decks in that format without playing them and afterwards rework them completely when i finally print a deck in form of proxies and play with it against some friends once in a couple of months :P On the other hand i got never tired of Magic, and wasn't even bothered about new cards, rules or description changes. One exception being flavor in the reminder text, which is on a card that just recently got released yet (Statement about why i dislike this is already written down in the comments section) I never played via Magic Work Station yet, but building it up shouldn't be a problem i guess :) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 18:33, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
Oh, was a typical typo then. Um, would you happen to use Skype or the Guild Wars in-game chat? I'd be ready from now on. Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 22:38, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
UP! Also, who is the strange illustrator behind this? Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 01:45, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
please excuse the late reply, i was on field excursion and should possibly better have mentioned that. i never used skype, but we could of course use in-game chat if necessary. i'll still have to install the stuff, but as i said this should work without any further problems. btw, i noticed that Izzy artist before, actually even thought he'd have already drawn older magic cards besides these. Well, i guess Cartwright is not the only nicknamed Isaiah out there, huh?^^ —ZerphatalkThe Improver 13:14, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
That option to contact was a bite in my neck. However, I might try to use TS, ICQ or maybe MSN. Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 00:58, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) to which cantact option are you exactly refering to? doesn't look like you're talking about ingame chat, since your problem stated on Gaile's site doesn't seem to be related to that. (although i get the bite-in-the-neck part when regarding the next edit where Wyn is talking about support tickets) anyways, icq should work, i remember you left your number on Yo's talk page someday, but i could also send you mine via wiki-mail, or vice versa. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 19:01, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Typical, just too slow. They removed the ban. In-game available as usual. :P Super Igor Servant 19:21, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

New Drop/Salvage Research Project[edit]

After noting that drop research has been almost non-existent since 2007 and quite often presented in different manners I have just begun a shiny new drop/salvage project and was hoping that I could maybe attain your assistance as one of the major contributors of this information (or at least your support or comments on my proposals). The project can be found Here

Many thanks in advance for your time. Dakota 02:44, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

i know my reply likely comes later then you wished it to be, and i have to say that although i'm currently not playing guild wars and therefore won't be able to contribute for your project, i fully support your idea and really appreciate your efforts so far regarding the project, it seems to be built up quite nicely, great job! :)
i gueses that you were adressing me since you noticed that i had the same urge to research this in some of my past contributions, likely in the "Drop research" talk section of various item articles. maybe you also noted it by checking the "Items dropped"-section of various creatures or by taking a look at my older templates and related rants which encouraged a more detailed tracking of item drops.
regarding the latter i could maybe provide some inspiration for your project when it comes to writing down the information on the articles - i'll try to write that down on the project talk. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 15:47, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

well, after some Google research i can tell you that much: it's an excerpt from the lyrics "Inside the fire" from Disturbed, an apparently the song is dedicated to David Draiman's ex-girlfriend who committed suicide and indicates that he wants to be brought to death by the devil in order to be able to join her again. I still have problems finding the exact connection between this and my userpage, but so far i can tell that you apparently don't like it that much^^' —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:22, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
I lol'd. Good assumption, but no. The reason I said that was cause there was an asuran portal image there. Very bad reference but still. →[ »Halogod User Halogod35 Sig.png (talk ]← 21:40, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
I was quite disappointed with Indestructible. Believe and Ten Thousand Fists are still the best albums by Disturbed, but Disturbed itself isn't progressive enough for me to stand that band much. ---Chaos?- (moo!) -- 22:27, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Nobody said that. You need to be at least a moderate Disturbed fan to see the reference, though. ---Chaos?- (moo!) -- 00:05, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
alright, then here was the problem. i couldn't call myself a fan, but i definitely like some of their songs (i especially started liking Inside the Fire, listened to that one about one dozen times today, lol) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 17:52, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

The association is incredibly strong. ---Chaos?- (moo!) -- 03:28, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

:D I'm actually surprised that's the case. My sobriquet was initially intended to express that - the person's process of improvement. But i think it should have been "the Improving" actually. Though "the Improver" is a neologism and therefore does not have a definition, i'm afraid most people interpret it as "the guy which makes things better", which unintentionally gives it a pretty conceited impression. But maybe i'm wrong and the majority are people which look at it like you. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 14:01, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
I think of the fat Zerai guy who is completely helpless and very annoying, and of a person who does random improvements to the wiki. ;o ---Chaos?- (moo!) -- 14:05, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

I don't associate that person with you, I just associate it. The improvy part I do associate with you. ---Chaos?- (moo!) -- 15:24, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
so you simply think of my username when you read his name. well, that's what i also supposed since i knew that you weren't being serious about that part^^ —ZerphatalkThe Improver 15:44, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
I never think of you, babe, but I always remember him when I think of you! Infallible logic and all. ---Chaos?- (moo!) -- 21:07, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
that sounds kind of paradox, but i for sure know that i'll now always think of you now whenever i see that guy. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 10:12, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Weird, i can't remember that right now, and i didn't find this within my archives either. Maybe it's hidden somewhere within your archives. Or maybe you're indeed having just a déjà-vu and it never actually happened. But i could imagine it nontheless^^ As i said, i consider "an improver" to be a person that improves things, but when i came up with that name i thought more of a person which gets better, an improving person (in passive instead of an active way). —ZerphatalkThe Improver 16:48, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

You seem to be a far bigger Vorthos than i am. I normally like the flavor background behind the functionality on cards. I only know the background stories roughly most of the time, but i like such random facts like Jeska and Phage being the same person. I never read any of the books though. I only considered reading the Mirrodin novels, but according to some book review i found on the internet it wasn't that good, so in the end i didn't do it. So i never heard of Ogden (regarding Magic characters) nor of Irini. Btw, it wasn't me that wanted to create a character named after Teysa, it was Noctarch^^ But i planned naming my Mesmer like that non-legendary follow - yet the name was already taken as well, there are quite a lot character names using a Magic card's name. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 09:17, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Ogdan is no actually a character the reference is more in his backstory in that he's ment to be a plainswalker. I didn't even pick the name Ogdan based on he dwarf Ogden, it just was something cool...
as for Irini... Here you go, Irini Sengir The preceding unsigned comment was added by Evil Eyeball (talk • contribs) at 08:37, 5 April 2010 (UTC).
Ah, so your elementalist's name is kind of intended to be a GW-Magic lore crossover. I totally forgot about that Vampire Dwarf card Irini, but now i remember that card's creature types and artwork. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 09:10, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Fix those and then deleting the redirect won't be a problem. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png{{Bacon}} 03:18, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

I don't quite know wher the problem is. They all link to Henchman Skill Bar Contest. I wanted to delete this page so the article, Henchman skill bar contest could be moved to this page. Isn't that what "Housekeeping" is about? Delete a page that prevents moving another one to this proper name, since the move is needed to keep the revision history of that article? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 11:58, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
They all point to Henchmen Skill Bar Contest, but they should all point to Henchmen skill bar contest. The ones that currently point to the capitalized version require the redirect there so they don't become dead links. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png{{Bacon}} 22:50, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
You apparently misunderstood me here. They all link to the capitalized version, yes - that's even better. Since this is an official term and also refered to as "Henchman Skill Bar Contest" on the official page, the version with minor letters that currently makes the title of the article should at best not have any links anyways. So we delete the version with the capital letters. This will create a bunch of dead links for a short period of time, but it doesn't matter - the article will get moved to this deleted page with capital letters immediately afterwards. It's kind of retarded to change the entire set of links twice just for this instant. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 11:12, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
The page was originally named HSBC (all capitals) because that is what is was referred to on the GW's website, etc. Then Pling tagged it for a move to the lowercase because of not needing to follow in-game capitilisation. I opposed the move, Armond said to leave it (as HSBC) and Ariyen wanted it move. The tag was left on the page as no consensus was reached, or no one bothered to remove it, and eventually someone moved it. I still don't agree with the move, as it's the name of the contest. I don't see people slapping the other contests that are all capitals for moves, but hey...As for now, if you just move it back, it just creates a whole new shit storm. ~Celestia 11:51, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
well i didn't know about the background story, but seeing that the links on the other pages didn't get changed to the minorcase version along with the fact that every single other contest out of these about two dozen contests doesn't use minorcase letters either, this is pretty retarded. There are a lot more arguments that support the move. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 11:58, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Do you want??[edit]

A mini Seer? I have one I could part with, I saw your comment about easily acquiring one on the talk page for him, Only issue is My mini seer came from a pre birthday gift and is thusly in pre. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.121.12.148 (talk • contribs) at 07:26, 27 April 2010 (UTC).

(I wonder if i will even get a reply from you, Mr. anon). I don't severly want one; i effectively never bought new miniatures so far since their price decreases severly over time. I also doubt that my pre-Searing charcter could bring up an amount of money that you would be content with. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:46, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Lockpicks Table[edit]

I like the Lockpicks table that you've just added to the Lucky/Unlucky guide. I note that you've quintupled the Unlucky points to normalise the graphs. This effectively puts the Lucky & Unlucky on the same scale percentage-wise . Would it be worth actually labelling the y-axis as a percentage-of-max bar to make this clear? I particularly like that, since I know I have 21% to go on the Lucky title and 54% to go on the Unlucky title, I can determine the optimal retention rate for my particular case by looking for the x-value at which the Unlucky value is 54/21 times the Lucky value - in theory, anyway. In fact, an extra line showing this ratio against a right-hand y-axis would be impressive, thought this would probably clutter up the graph too much.

P.S. What did you use to create the graph? Kirbett 16:20, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

It was made in Microsoft Excel. poke | talk 15:40, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
As poke said, it was made in Excel. Regarding the y-axis, in fact i initially planned to make it as you wanted, but then figured out that i should use it to show the title points gained instead since - as you figured out - the quintupled function shows it as well. If the axis would be used to show the percentual relation, we would actually only have one curve that reflects this relation, which - as you once again figured out correctly - would likely mess up the clarity.
But since your needed rate is about 2.57:1 and 2.55:1 is the relation at 50%, i'd look for chests between a rate of 47% (2.7:1) and 53% (2.4:1). The relation curve between 0% and 100% goes from 5:1 down to 0:1. If you need far more Unlucky points then lucky points, the best rate you should try to reach is still 50% - below 50% might mean a better relation, but also less points - so i guess you'd prefer getting more of both and maybe "too many" lucky points than less of both (and on top of that, it will also cost you less money for lockpicks). The only case where you actually have to look for an optimized retention rate when maxing both titles is when your unlucky title track is further progressed than your lucky title so that the relation would be below 2.55 - and that normally only happens if you passed your "afk weekends" primarily on the Rings of Fortune instead of the Nine Rings; or if you got your title track forwards primarily by opening chests (especially when done in hard mode) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 00:09, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
I got seduced by the thought of an optimal percentage relationship, completely overlooking the fact that in most cases this is a red herring. As you say, my best bet is just to go for the 50% chests. Except what I do have to do now is work out another trade-off which is unlucky-points-earned vs time-to-repeat-chest, for the various farmable chests (Boreal, Frontis, etc). This never ends, does it? I think my challenge now is to max Unlucky before GW2 :) Kirbett 08:55, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
so if i got this right, you now want to calculate the time you'll need to acquire max unlucky title? i guess this shouldn't be a problem once you figured out your average time needed to open one chest. A nice place i always used for chest running that i can advice is Pongmei Valley (normally starting from Maatu Keep). It has five or six chests, most of them are easy to reach. On top of that, thanks to the many different kinds of creatures found there, you'll find many different weapon skins. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:27, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

hey[edit]

I was trying to get your No Glitter from items/bundles on the ground TexMod, but it seems the file isn't on mediafire anymore :/ Could you find it and reupload it? :) Thanks –User Balistic B d-dark.pngalistic 07:14, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

i've skimmed through my guild wars folders, but unfortunately i couldn't find it :/
but the upside is, this mod wasn't too hard to create.
just drop any inventory item, switch through the image files with PG UP or PG DN until the glitter turns into green squares, and extract the file. (afair some bundles have a special glitter animation on the ground - e.g. the Repair Kit - so you'll need to extract this one seperately as well if you want to take a screenshot of these)
all you have to do now is to open these files (i did it with Photoshop, but i guess Gimp works as well), cut out the entire image (CTRL + A and CTRL + DEL) so that you have just a transperent file left, and save it. it sounds more complicated than it actually is, but i guess the entire instruction was unnecessary anyways in case you ever created something with TexMod before :P —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:32, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Changes to template and definition of repeatable[edit]

You've imposed a change on the wiki about what we mean by repeatable and how we treat daily bounties (including ZMs/ZBs, etc). On the whole, I agree with the intent behind this (there is a notable difference between being able to repeat immediately and having to wait X days), but it would be better to discuss changes with this type of impact before implementing them.

The community might decide, after all, that it doesn't care to distinguish immediately repeatable from wait to repeat. Or it might decide to highlight the two types of repetition using some other mechanism than the one you chose. Or... well, the wiki didn't get the chance to collectively decide.

While you or I might be reasonably good (or even great) arbiters of such nuances, stuff that has a huge impact like this really ought to be up to the community. I can all but guarantee that someone down the road will make a similar change that will lack community support... and use this implementation as an argument for why they didn't need to ask the community first. It's hard enough as it is to help some contributors understand the difference between their great idea and what's great for the wiki.

In the future, I would appreciate it if you would invite discussion before implementing a change both global and massive. Thanks. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 15:28, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

You have brought up a good and reasonable point here, i guess i should excuse me for this.
I already made various edits on infoboxes (including commonly used ones like the item infobox) in the past and everyone seemed okay with that...although those were mostly parameters invisble unless used. But i guess that still doesn't justify the principle that i made an edit here that has a direct impact on existant pages without asking the community what they think about it.
I rather waited for feedback in case something shouldn't be alright with that, since the changes could be reverted with a single edit like anything else.
That's why I'm sometimes 'more practical' with my edits when i think they're considered and have no downsides. An established bureaucracy is obviously important, although i admittedly use it often merely as guidance than a strict ruling system since otherwise it can unnecessarily slow down every minor matter that would most often have been executed that way or still get discussed or changed in another edit without much trouble.
It didn't seem like a big deal and quite reasonable when i changed it: As you noticed, my original intent was to add a parameter to predict at which date a quest will be available the next time. While i was playing a bit in my sandbox to figure out how this could be made without editing all the hundreds of pages of daily quests, i came up with the idea of adding this little icon. The Quest lists navbar and the way the template was written suggested that there was this last category of quests that was missing a note on the type line. Daily activities and List of repeatable quests were two seperate things but obviously they had something in common, so using an altered version of the recharge icon that's used for the repeatable quests seemed legit. I chose the color blue since it's a cold color to indicate it's not always available. Then when i saw how those quests were named on Wanted by the Shining Blade#Quests i realized the description "rotating" instead of "daily" might be less misleading (as "daily" might only refer to today's quests).
Everything matched perfectly in my mind, but looking back at the above paragraph i realize that my perception was self-evidently applied multiple times. If i made a mistake or missed a better solution in only one of those points, this means work for other contributors (which also was the case regarding my edits afterwards on the zaishen combat quests, and the fact that the edit doesn't affect the wanted quests as planned :P).
As i said above, i prefer a (revert and) discussion after some edits to a discussion before each edit. But when this "some" isn't granted and might eventually become an "each" instead, this philosophy doesn't work out very well. As you said, it would be quite a chaos if everyone acted that way.
I'll bring up such a suggestion next time on the talk page and wait some days for responses first.—ZerphatalkThe Improver 19:01, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
Perfect :-)
Ideas that affect a lot of articles at once are worth discussion, because few of us tend to get all the details correct on our own. And, as we discover over and over again, all of us have personal ideas about style and presentation. (e.g. I usually forget to consider colorblindness when deciding to use green and red icons that look the same.)
Also, can I assume that you got my email? (I don't need a response; I just wanted to make sure you had a chance to read it.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:46, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Color blindness...didn't consider that either to be honest, although the contrast should be notable in this case. Got your mail. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 13:27, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
Color blindness...was just an example of how, sometimes, someone with a good idea might not have considered all consequences of an idea on their own. In other words, why it's better that even the cleverest among us propose solutions and invite comments before implementation.
Thanks for your email response. I can toss you some specific examples, if you like. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:59, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Gain Olias[edit]

You really had that quest in your log for more than 7 years? Holy smokes! Steve1 (talk) 18:06, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Before you completed Gain Olias on your monk, did your monk already unlock Olias in All for One and One for Justice (i.e. were you able to complete Gain Olias even if your monk already unlocked Olias in All for One and One for Justice)? --Silver Edge 08:12, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
@Steve1: Haha yes, I had. And in fact, I still have. Has it really been seven years already? Wow. But then again, taking a quest and not finishing it isn't something special, so I can't be the only one that has a character with ancient quests in the log, can I? :D
@Silver Edge: I didn't unlock Olias on my monk yet. I also couldn't take the quest All for One and One for Justice, presumably because they are mutually exclusive. I didn't finish the quest yet and planned getting all the information I can before doing so. I had always been interested in the historical content stuff since way back in 2008, and it looks like I can now finally provide information firsthand this time :) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 11:30, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
